• In Subversion, I know when a file was added, what's the quickest way to find out when it was deleted

  OK, so suppose I know I added file "foo.txt" to my Subversion repository at revision 500. So I can do a svn log -v http://svnrepo/path/foo.txt@500, and that shows all the files added at the same time. What's the fastest way to find when the file was deleted after it was added? I tried svn log -r500:HEAD -v http://svnrepo/path/foo.txt@500, but that gives me "path not found" - perhaps obviously, because the file "foo.txt" doesn't exist at "HEAD". I can try a binary search algorithm going forward through revisions (and that would certainly be faster than typing this question), but is there a better way?

  I'm trying to parse an XML file with expat, and here's the line where I get bad token exception: <tag k="name" v="???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????" /> xml.parsers.expat.ExpatError: not well-formed (invalid token): line 610127, column 37 The symbols in hex look like: \xd1? Seems like someone wrote this string (Russian alfabet) hitting backspace a few times. I set parser.returns_unicode = True, but this didn't help. The 1st line is <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>. I work with a bz2 file. (bz2.BZ2File) How can I parse the file?

• Save a binary file in SQL Server as BLOB and text (or get the text from Full-Text index)

  Currently we are saving files (PDF, DOC) into the database as BLOB fields. I would like to be able to retrieve the raw text of the file to be able to manipulate it for hit-highlighting and other functions. Does anyone know of a simple way to either parse out the files and save the raw text on save, either via SQL or .net code. I have found that Adobe has a filtdump utility that will convert the PDF to text. Filtdump seems to be a command line tool, and i don't see a way to use a file stream. And what would the extractor be for Office documents and other file types? -or- Is there a way to pull out the raw text from the Full text index? Note i am trying to build a .net & MSSql solution without having to use a third party tool such as Lucene

I'm hoping there is some way I can provide our smaller customers without access to commercial repackaging tools a freely available set of tools and steps to do the file replacement themselves. Only need to replace a single configuration file inside a compressed MSI, the target user can be assumed to already have Orca installed, know how to use this to customize the Property table (to embed license details for GPO deployment) and have generated an MST file. Disclaimer: this is very similar to another question but both questions and answers in that thread are not clear.

  I'm working on a game project. I've created an object, Star(Object). I want to assign the name of the variables, dynamically, from a text file. If I have a text file with: Sol Centauri Vega I want the program to create the Star(Object) with variable names from the text file. I want the process automated, because I'm looking to create hundreds of stars. I could write the code out by hand: Sol = Star(Sol) Centauri = Star(Centauri) Vega = Star(Vega) But isn't there a way to automate this? Essentially, what I eventually want is a tuple with the list of stars, as their own objects. Then, when I am doing game maintenance, I can just iterate over all the objects in the tuple.

  Let's say you want to save a bunch of files somewhere, for instance in BLOBs. Let's say you want to dish these files out via a web page and have the client automatically open the correct application/viewer. Assumption: The browser figures out which application/viewer to use by the mime-type (content-type?) header in the HTTP response. Based on that assumption, in addition to the bytes of the file, you also want to save the MIME type. How would you find the MIME type of a file? I'm currently on a Mac, but this should also work on Windows. Does the browser add this information when posting the file to the web page? Is there a neat python library for finding this information?   Hi, When someone click on Browse for the input file below: <input type="file" name="blah" /> A dialog box will appear. The user will then select a file and click 'Ok'. The dialog box will close. Is there an event fire because of that? I tried onfocus and onblur, it didnt work out. The only way is, i start a timer to check the value content when it is onfocus. Not that elegant. Any solution?   A question that seems to have quite a few options for Python, but none for Java after googling for two days. Really really could use some help all I have found so far is a recommendation to use gaeVFS to build an excel file from the xml components and then zip it all together which sounds like a slap in the face. Oh yes and if you were wondering I am questioning my use of Java rather than python but at 5,000 lines of code it would be insane to turn back now... Other things you might find useful Client: GWT Server: Servlets running on google app engine storing data into the google data store Excel file: mandatory, CSV isn't good enough, no need to save the file just to be able to "serve" it to the client i.e. open a "Save As" box.

  Hi, I have a c# application that I have moved to a 64bit machine. This application reads in an Excel file for some data input. I would like to build this project as 64bit. Is there any way to have my program read in this file? I find it hard to believe that there is no way to use and Excel file as input into a 64bit app. I have installed Office 2010 64 bit as well as the 2010 Office System Driver Beta: Data Connectivity Components with no luck.   I have some buttons on my WPF UI and I also need to choose files from time to time. I kept noticing strange problems where when I double-click an item in the file dialog, a button on the main UI would also get clicked. After experimenting, it seems that if you line up an item in the file dialog with a button behind it on the main UI and double click to select the file, it will single-click the button behind it as well. Has anyone else noticed this, or is it just a freak bug with the way I have my UI laid out?

  In my shell script, my last lines are: ... echo "$l" done done exit I have Terminal preference set to "When the shell exits: Close the window". In all other cases, when I type "exit" or "logout", in Terminal, the window closes, but for this ".command" file (I can double-click on my shell script file, and the script runs), instead of closing the window, while the file's code says "exit", what shows on the screen is: ... $l done logout [Process completed] ...and the window remains open. Does anyone know how to get a shell script to run, and then just automatically quit the Terminal window on completion? Thanks!

  Hi guys is it possible to be able to retain an uploaded file AFTER its been uploaded I mean I'm building a compose email application. Users can upload files as attachments. AT times out of 10 uploaded files one of them isn't uploaded correctly or the submitted form is invalid the compose page would be displayed again however the user would ned to upload the file again this time. Is it possible to somehow maintain the uploaded files somewhere on the first upload and if the form is invalid - be able to display links to the file uploaded or so?

  I need to be able to mimic 'tail -f' with Java. I'm trying to read a log file as it's being written by another process, but when I open the file to read it, it locks the file and the other process can't write to it anymore.   I am at a point where I need to take the decision on what to do when caching of objects reaches the configured threshold. Should I store the objects in a indexed file (like provided by JCS) and read them from the file (file IO) when required or have the object stored in a distributed cache (network, serialization, deserialization) We are using Solaris as OS. ============================ Adding some more information. I have this question so as to determine if I can switch to distributed caching. The remote server which will have cache will have more memory and better disk and this remote server will only be used for caching. One of the problems we cannot increase the locally cached objects is , it stores the cached objects in JVM heap which has limited memory(using 32bit JVM). ======================================================================== Thanks, we finally ended up choosing Coherence as our Cache product. This provides many cache configuration topologies, in process vs remote vs disk ..etc.

• How do I easily change hardcoded links to a file in Excel?

  I have a project where I maintain a list of all my students and their information in an Excel file labeled "BigList.xlsx". Then, I have about 40-50 other separate ancillary excel files that link to BigList by using vLookup. For example, in cell A1 of an ancillary file you might see a formula that looks like this: =Vlookup(B3, 'c:\documents and settings\user\desktop[BigList.xlsx]Sheet1'!$a$1:$b$10000,2,false). The vlookup link above references BigList.xlsx. However, I just realized that I need to change that file name to something else, like MasterDatabase.xlsm (notice the different extension). Is there an easy way to do this without having to manually go through all 40-50 files and doing a find & replace? I think the basic idea is to change a hardcoded link into a dynamic one where I can change the filename of BigList.xlsx anytime, and not have to go back through all 40-50 files to update their links.

  Hello, I used python 2.5 and imported a file named "irit.py" from C:\util\Python25\Lib\site-packages directory. This files imports the file "_irit.pyc which is in the same directory. It worked well and did what I wanted. Than, I tried the same thing with python version 2.6.4. "irit.py" which is in C:\util\Python26\Lib\site-packages was imported, but "_irit.pyc" (which is in the same directory of 26, like before) hasn't been found. I got the error message: File "C:\util\Python26\lib\site-packages\irit.py", line 5, in import _irit ImportError: DLL load failed: The specified module could not be found. • Why does IE prompt a security warning when viewing an XML file?

  Opening an XML file in Internet explorer gives a security warning. IE has a nice collapsible tree view for viewing XML, but it's disabled by default and you get this scary error message about a potential security hole. http://www.leonmeijer.nl/archive/2008/04/27/106.aspx But why? How can simply viewing an XML file (not running any embedded macros in it or anything) possibly be a security hole? Sure, I get that running XSLT could potentially do some bad stuff, but we're not talking about executing anything. We're talking about viewing. Why can't IE simply display the XML file as text (plus with the collapsible tree viewer)? So why did they label this as a security hole? Can someone describe how simply viewing an XML document could be used as an attack document?

  Hi all, I'm trying to transfer large file(1Gb+) using UDP(in packets) through air application. I'm transfering byteArray by taking chunks of packets from FileStream. But its giving 'Error #1000: The system is out of memory' at sender side after certain number of packets sent and by this time the downloaded file size at server side is 256 MB. I tried with other files but after downloading 256MB, sender is giving the same error. Is it because of the file stream size? How can I solve this problem so that I can transfer files of GB size.

  I've set up a script that basically does a large-scale find-and-replace on a plain text document. At the moment it works fine with ASCII, UTF-8, and UTF-16 (and possibly others, but I've only tested these three) encoded documents so long as the encoding is specified inside the script (the example code below specifies UTF-16). • How a servlet can get the absolute path to a file outside of the servlet?

  We have been using System.getProperties("user.dir") to get the location of a properties file. Now that it has been deployed on Tomcat(via servlet), the System call is giving the location as tomcat and not at the location at where the properties file exist. How can we call the the properties file dynamically? Given: Tomcat is not the only way the app will be deployed We have no control on where the app may be placed. Relative paths will not work as that Vista is being used and Vista breaks relative paths. This must work on all OS, including(but not limited to) Linux, XP and Vista. EDIT I implied this, but in case I was not clear enough, I have no way of knowing the path String.

  How do i render a web cam filter instead of video file? I am looking at the vmr9compositor example included in the directshow sdk. It renders a video file. I would like to stream in the feed from the webcam. It SEEMS like this should be possible, but I dont have much of a grasp on directshow. It uses this method call currently: hr = g_graph->RenderFile( pFileName, NULL ); Looking at the playcap example in the sdk which can display the web cam feed in a window, I see that it uses hr = g_pCapture->RenderStream (&PIN_CATEGORY_PREVIEW, &MEDIATYPE_Video, pSrcFilter, NULL, NULL)); to display the web cam stream. pSrcFilter is an IBaseFilter. How can I can swap the video file in the vmr app with the web cam feed? Windows XP, Visual Studio 2008 C++

• Unable to delete file locked by same process -- weird!

  I have an application written in PHP that uses a COM dll written in C#. The dll creates an image file by combining two other image files. The PHP script then takes over to do the housekeeping tasks of deleting the two source files and renaming the resulting combined file. The problem is the PHP script can't delete one of the source files because it's locked. The weird thing is that the process that has it locked is itself which in this case is the Apache Web Server. I have tried altering the C# dll to dispose of all bitmap and graphics objects prior to exiting, and yet the lock remains. My question is, what can I do to get the dll to let go and release the file locks. This is very frustrating.
