• What can I access in Androids Native libraries? And How?

  I am completely new to the NDK. I have done a couple of the tutorials including the hello from jni one and another one that calculates the sum of two numbers. They involved using cygwin and the ndk to create the library so file and I have a bit of a grasp on how to insert my own libraries into the libraries layer of Android. I have now been asked to access the native libraries on Android and see what I can use them for. My question is can I do this? The STABLE-APIS.txt document is a bit vague and mentions the following as Stable C++ API's in Android 1.5 cstddef new utility stl_pair.h Does that mean I can access them? If so then how do I go about it? I dont think that following the tutorials I have already done would be any help? Any pointers on how to do this or links to tutorials etc.. would be greatly appreciated

• Assign a custom global pseudo variable in Code Igniter like {elapsed_time}

  Hello As you probably all know Code Igniter can assign pseudo variables using the Parser library, but you also know that if we want to assign a Pseudo Variable to use it in a View, we have to do it in every controller that loads those views with the pseudo variables. I would like to know if Code Igniter 1.7.2 has some way that i can assign a Global Pseudo variable (like the pseudo variables from the Benchmarking Class). The pseudo variables i want, would have simple data mostly returned from the $config array in the config.php file. If some could help me with that. Regards.

• Manipulating multi-track ogg files programatically

  I'm planning to create a program for manipulating multi-track OGG files, but I don't have any experience with the relevant libraries, so I'm looking for recommendations about which language/library to use for this. I don't really have any preference for the language, I'll happily code it in C, C#, Python, whatever makes things the easiest (or even possible). Perhaps it's even a possibility to automate Audacity somehow? In terms of requirements, I'm not looking for anything particularly fancy. It will probably be a command-line program, I don't need to be able to play the audio, draw image representations of the waveforms, etc. The program will basically be used as a converter, but I need to do some processing before outputting. That is, I need the ability to programatically remove some tracks, set panning per-track, change track volumes, etc. Nothing too complex, just some basic processing, and then output the result in either MP3 or a format easily converted to MP3, such as WAV. Any suggestions or general information would be appreciated, thanks.

• portlet-mvc 3.0 + maven for websphere portlet: examples?

  I'm trying to develop a websphere portal portlet using java, maven and spring-portlet-mvc 3.0.2.RELEASE but so far I'm not having a lot of luck. The problem that I'm having is that a lot of the tutorials are either outdated, incorrect, contradict eachother or a combination of all the above. Also I have to use RAD but the tutorials also contradict eachother, logically I'd think you'd choose new portlet project, but http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/websphere/library/techarticles/0802_patil-pt1/0802_patil-pt1.html says to use a dynamic webproject. So I was wondering if anyone had a nice example/good tutorial.

• How to change the security level of a local assembly to internet or customized permission set?

  I built a assembly which is a class library, for example lib.dll . And I also have a application to access this lib, for example test.exe. I changed the security permission for the test.exe to "intranet". At the same time, I want to change lib.dll to "Internet" like this: (Because I want to do some testing for security.) CasPol.exe -m -ag 1.2 -strong -file lib.dll lib 1.0.0.0 Internent But it seems the lib.dll can not get the security permission as I wanted. What is wrong with the command? • Drupal using views with CCK custom fields

  I've got a Drupal site which uses a custom field for a certain type of node (person_id) which corresponds to a particular user. I want to create a view so that when logged in, a user can see a list of nodes 'tagged' with their person_id. I've got the view working fine, with a url of my-library/username but replacing username with a different username shows a list of all nodes tagged with that user. What I want to do is stop users changing the URL and seeing other users' tagged nodes. How can I do this? Is there somewhere where I can dictate that the only valid argument for this page is the one that corresponds with the current logged in user's username?

• Getting 401 on Twitter OAuth POST requests

  I am trying to use Twitter OAuth and my POST requests are failing with a 401 (Invalid OAuth Request) error. For example, if I want to post a new status update, I am sending a HTTP POST request to https://twitter.com/statuses/update.json with the following parameters - status=Testing&oauth_version=1.0&oauth_token=xxx& oauth_nonce=xxx&oauth_timestamp=xxx&oauth_signature=xxx& oauth_consumer_key=xxx&in_reply_to=xxx&oauth_signature_method=HMAC-SHA1` My GET requests are all working fine. I can see on the mailing lists that a lot of people have had identical problems but I could not find a solution anywhere. I am using the oauth.py Python library.

  The sun had yet to raise above the horizon on Saturday, May 22nd and I was traveling toward the location of the 2010 IndyTechFest. In my freshly awaken, and pre-coffee, state I reflected on the months that preceded this day and how quickly they slipped away. The big day had finally come and the morning dew glistened with a unique brightness that morning. What is this all about? For those who are unfamiliar with IndyTechFest, it is a regional conference held in Indianapolis and hosted by the Indianapolis .NET Developers Association (IndyNDA) and the Indianapolis Professional Association for SQL Server (IndyPASS).  The event presents multiple tracks and sessions covering subjects such as Business Intelligence,  Database Administration, .NET Development, SharePoint Development, Windows Mobile Development as well as non-Microsoft topics such as Lean and MongoDB. This year's event was the third hosting of IndyTechFest. No man is an island No event such as IndyTechFest is executed by a single person. My fellow co-founders, with their highly complementary skill sets and philanthropy make the process very enjoyable. Our amazing volunteers and their aid were indispensible. The generous financial support of our sponsors that made the event and fabulous prizes possible. The spectacular line up of speakers who came from near and far to donate their time and knowledge. Our beloved attendees who sacrificed the first sunny Saturday in weeks to expand their skill sets and network with their peers. We are deeply appreciative. Challenges in preparation With the preparation of any event comes challenges. It is these challenges that makes the process of planning an event so interesting. This year's largest challenge was the location of the event. In the past two years IndyTechFest was held at the Gene B. Glick Junior Achievement Center in Indianapolis. This facility has been the hub of the Indy technical community for many years. As the big day drew near, the facility's availability came into question due to some recent changes that had occurred with those who operated the facility. We began our search for an alternative option. Thankfully, the Marriott Indianapolis East was available, was very spacious and willing to work within the range of our budget. Within days of our event, the decision to move proved to be wise since the prior location had begun renovations to the interior. Whew! Always trust your gut. Every day it's getting better At the ending of each year, we huddle together, review the evaluations and identify an area in which the event could improve. This year's big opportunity for improvement resided in the prize give-away portion at the end of the day. In the 2008 event, admittedly, this portion was rather chaotic, rushed and disorganized. This year, we broke the drawing into two sections, of which each attendee received two tickets. The first ticket was a drawing for the mountain of books that were given away. The second ticket was a drawing for the big prizes, the 2 Xboxes, 3 laptops and iPad. We peppered the ticket drawings with gift card raffles and tossing t-shirts into the audience. If at first you don't succeed, try and try again Each year of IndyTechFest, we have offered a means for ad-hoc sessions or discussion groups to pop-up. To our disappointment it was something that never quite took off. We have always believed that this unique type of session was valuable and wanted to figure out a way to make it work for this year. A special thanks to Alan Stevens, who took on and facilitated the "open space" track and made it an official success. Share with your tweety When the attendee badges were designed we decided to place an emphasis on the attendee's Twitter account as well as the events hash-tag (#IndyTechFest) to encourage some real-time buzz during the day. At the host table we displayed a Twitter feed for all to enjoy. It was quite successful and encouraging use of social media. My badge was missing my Twitter account since it was recently changed. It is always great to see new faces and meet old friends. The planning for the 2011 IndyTechFest will kick off very soon. We have more capacity for future growth and a truck full of great ideas. • bad request error 400 while using python requests.post function

  I'm trying to make a simple post request via the requests library of Python and I get a bad request error (400) while my url is supposedly correct since I can use it to perform a get. I'm very new in REST requests, I read many tutorials and documentation but I guess there are still things I don't get so my error could be basic. Maybe a lack of understanding on the type of url I'm supposed to send via POST. • Searching for cluster computation framework

  I have a library, written in C#, containing one method: Response CalculateSomething(Request); The execution time of this method is relatively large, and there are a lot of responses that should be processed. I want to use a "cluster", spread this DLL to different machines (nodes) in this "cluster" and write some controller that will distribute responses to the nodes. There should be mechanism that perevent losing task because of node crush, load balancing. Can someone suggest framework that addresses this issue? P.S. There is a framework Qizmt written in C# but I think MapReduce is not good for the above scenario

  Hi! Does anyone has some example about accessing Active Directory, LDAP querying using WMI (System.Management namespace) and not System.DirectoryServices namespace. Here on MSDN page it is described a little using CIM classes http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa392320(v=VS.85).aspx But I cant find some C# example realizing it. • Postgresql 8.4 reading OID style BLOBs with Hibernate

  I am getting this weird case when querying Postgres 8.4 for some records with Blobs (of type OIDs) with Hibernate. The query does return all right but when my code wants to read the content of the BLOB with the simple code below, it gets 0 bytes back public static byte[] readBlob(Blob blob) throws Exception { InputStream is = null; try { is = blob.getBinaryStream(); return org.apache.commons.io.IOUtils.toByteArray(is); } finally { if (is != null) try { is.close(); } catch(Exception e) {} } } Funny think is that I am getting this behavior only since I've started adding more then one such records to the table. The underlying JDBC library is type 3 (postgresq 8.4-701). Can someone give me a hint as to how to solve this issue? Thanks Peter

  I have a project compiled using __cdecl calling convention (msvc2010) and I compiled boost using the same compiler using the default settings. The project linked with boost but I at runtime I got an assert message like this: File: ...\boost\boost\program_options\detail\parsers.hpp Line: 79 Run-Time Check Failure #0 - The value of ESP was not properly saved across a function call. This is usually a result of calling a function declared with one calling convention with a function pointer declared with a different calling convention. There are the following questions: what calling convention does boost build with by default on Windows (msvc2010) how to I compile boost with __cdecl calling convention why boost wasn't able to prevent linking with code with different calling conventions? I understood that boost has really smart library auto-inclusion code.

• Assign a Custom Global Pseudo Variable in Code Igniter

  Hello As you probably all know Code Igniter can assign pseudo variables using the Parser library, but you also know that if we want to assign a Pseudo Variable to use it in a View, we have to do it in every do it in every controller that loads those views with the pseudo variables. I would like to know if Code Igniter 1.7.2 has some way that i can assign a Global Pseudo variable (like the pseudo variables from the Benchmarking Class). The pseudo variables i want, would have simple data mostly returned from the $config array in the config.php file. If some could help me with that. Regards.

• MPI: is there mpi libraries capable of message compression?

  Sometimes MPI is used to send low-entropy data in messages. So it can be useful to try to compress messages before sending it. I know that MPI can work on very fast networks (10 Gbit/s and more), but many MPI programs are used with cheap network like 0,1G or 1Gbit/s Ethernet and with cheap (slow, low bisection) network switch. There is a very fast Snappy (wikipedia) compression algorithm, which has Compression speed is 250 MB/s and decompression speed is 500 MB/s so on compressible data and slow network it will give some speedup. Is there any MPI library which can compress MPI messages (at layer of MPI; not the compression of ip packets like in PPP). MPI messages are also structured, so there can be some special method, like compression of exponent part in array of double.

• Personal project in Java

  My first project in java is going to be a program (eventually I have to create a GUI interface but for now CLI would do) to keep track of my books (something similar to what libraries have only a simpler). I need to be able to insert, update, remove, show all books, update, search(by name or author or date). For the design I was thinking one main class Library which will have all of the above as methods that connect to the db and retrieve the data. Is this approach ok? I realize it's simple but it's my first real project and I would appreciate a little feedback. Also, is it too soon to consider reading up on design patterns and database design ?

• JSON - msg.d is undefined error

  Hi - Webmethod returns an array of objects - something like this {"d": [[{"Amount":100,"Name":"StackOverflow"}, {"Amount":200,"Name":"Badges"}, {"Amount":300,"Name":"Questions"}]]} On the client-side, when the JSON is referenced using msg.d, I get a msg.d is undefined error. I am using jQuery JavaScript Library v1.4.2 How do I access the elements in the array of objects? Adding more findings, code and questions: I don't see __type in the JSON object that is returned. Does that mean that the object sent from the server is not JSON formatted? When the __type is not a part of the response, I will not be able to use msg.d? (msg.d is undefined) Some more: 1. I can access the elements from client side using msg[0][0].Amount - How can I specifically JSON format my return object (from the server)

• What WPF frameworks should I use?

  I'm a newbie to WPF and I'm developing a brand new windows desktop application and I would like your opinion on what WPF framework I should use. I know this question has been asked before, but the last question was asked at least several months ago. A lot has changed since then. Right now, I'm using MVVM Light which is more of a library than an actual framework, as the name suggests. I’m looking for something more comprehensive. I prefer a framework that I can use on future WPF projects. Consequently, it should be general purpose and productive. Any insights or suggestions?

• Aborting jQuery().load()

  The .load() function of the jQuery library allows you to selectively load elements from another page (subject to certain rules). I would like to know whether it is possible to abort the load process. In our application, a user can browse a list of items. They may choose to click a button which loads and displays additional information about an item from another document (which can take some time). If they choose a different item in the list whilst a .load() is still happening, I would like the loading to be aborted. Is this possible? Is it even worth it? Any ideas? Dan

• Enabling PostgreSQL support in PHP on Mac OS X

  I'm having a terribly difficult time getting the command "pg_connect()" to work properly on my Mac. I'm currently writing a PHP script (to be executed from console) to read a PostgreSQL database and email a report. I've gone into my php.ini file and added extension=pgsql.so But, I'm met with the following error. PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library '/usr/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20090626/php_pgsql.so' - dlopen(/usr/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20090626/php_pgsql.so, 9): image not found in Unknown on line 0 PHP Fatal error: Call to undefined function pg_connect() in... (blah file here) When running phpinfo(), I see nothing about PostgreSQL, so what is my issue here?

• Tinyxml Multi Task

  I have a single xml file and every new thread of the program (BHO) is using the same Tinyxml file. every time a new window is open in the program, it runs this code: const char * xmlFileName = "C:\\browsarityXml.xml"; TiXmlDocument doc(xmlFileName); doc.LoadFile(); //some new lines in the xml.. and than save: doc.SaveFile(xmlFileName); The problem is that after the first window is adding new data to the xml and saves it, the next window can't add to it. although the next one can read the data in the xml, it can't write to it. I thought about two possibilities to make it work, but I don't know how to implement them: Destroy the doc object when I'm done with it. Some function in Tinyxml library to unload the file. Any help or better understanding of the problem will be great. Thanks.
