  I'm getting this error during compilation: Error occurred during initialization of VM Could not create the Java virtual machine. Could not reserve enough space for object heap What's worse, the error occurs intermittently. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't. It seems to be dependent on the amount of code in the application. If I get rid of some variables or drop some imported libraries, it will compile. Then when I add more to it, I get the error again. I've included the following sources into the application in the [project_root]/src/ directory: org.apache.httpclient (I've stripped all references to log4j from the sources, so don't need it) org.apache.codec (as a dependency) org.apache.httpcore (dependency of httpclient) and my own activity code consisting of nothing more than an instance of HttpClient. I know this has something to do with the amount of memory necessary during compile time or some compiler options, and I'm not really stressing my system while i'm coding. I've got 2GB of memory on this Core Duo laptop and windows reports only 860MB page file usage (haven't used any other memory tools. I should have plenty of memory and processing power for this... and I'm only compiling some common http libs... total of 406 source files. What gives? edit (4/30/2010-18:24): Just compiled some code where I got the above stated error. I closed some web browser windows and recompiled the same exact code with no edits and it compiled with no issue. this is definitely a compiler issue related to memory usage. Any help would be great.... because I have no idea where to go from here. • Any Red5 Working Example Project for 0.9 release

  I'm trying to find 1, just 1, working sample project for Red5 that's updated to work against the latest 0.9 release without missing jars and other nonsense. Right now, it's at v0.9 and the libs are different from other versions. They have 5 pathetic examples on their website, but all were built with the older versions, and who knows which version since they don't seem to be putting any effort into updating or marketing their open source project. For these 5 old examples, I could use the Add External JARS feature to try and add libs from previous versions, they don't mention which versions they were built against and I'm not going to try each previous version to see which works (I already did and nothing works). P.S. Voted the worst documented project on the planet. It's hilarious, one of their developers posted a few videos on youtube, without bothering to attach a sample zip for the get-started project he's demoing. No offense, but that's seriously #(#$$#($!@#*. Not a good start for any tech decision maker to assess a technology for commercial use. Anyone who's more intelligent and can shed some light on behalf of these fools?

• rails search nested set (categories and sub categories)

  Hello, I am using the http://github.com/collectiveidea/awesome_nested_set awesome nested set plugin and currently, if I choose a sub category as my category_id for an item, I can not search by its parent. Category.parent Category.Child I choose Category.child as the category that my item is in. So now my item has category_id of 4 stored in it. If I go to a page in my rails application, lets say teh Category page and I am on the Category.parent's page, I want to show products that have category_id's of all the descendants as well. So ideally i want to have a find method that can take into account the descendants. You can get the descendants of a root by calling root.descendants (a built in plugin method). How would I go about making it so I can query a find that gets the descendants of a root instead of what its doing now which is binging up nothing unless the product had a specific category_id of the Category.parent. I hope I am being clear here. I either need to figure out a way to create a find method or named_scope that can query and return an array of objects that have id's corresponding tot he descendants of a root OR if I have any other options, what are they? I thought about creating a field in my products table like parent_id which can keep track of the parent so i can then create two named scopes one finding the parent stuff and one finding the child stuff and chaining them. I know I can create a named scope for each child and chain them together for multiple children but this seems a very tedious process and also, if you add more children, you would need to specify more named scopes.

• Dynamic controls not creating with RSS reader function

  Hello, I am working on a test project for an RSS reader. I am using Chilkat's module for .NET 3.5. What I am trying to do is this: For each item in the RSS feed, I want to dynamically create some controls (labels) that contain stuff like the title, the link and the publication date. The problem is that only the first control comes up "rssTitle", but not the rest and it's definitely not creating the rest, nor cycling through the RSS items. Any ideas where I'm wrong in my code? • Efficiently Determine if EF 4 POCO Already in ObjectSet

  I'm trying EF 4 with POCO's on a small project for the first time. In my Repository implementation, I want to provide a method AddOrUpdate that will add a passed-in POCO to the repository if it's new, else do nothing (as the updated POCO will be saved when SaveChanges is called). My first thought was to do this: public void AddOrUpdate(Poco p) { if (!Ctx.Pocos.Contains<Poco>(p)) { Ctx.Pocos.AddObject(p); } } However that results in a NotSupportedException as documented under Referencing Non-Scalar Variables Not Supported (bonus question: why would that not be supported?) Just removing the Contains part and always calling AddObject results in an InvalidStateException: An object with the same key already exists in the ObjectStateManager. The existing object is in the Unchanged state. An object can only be added to the ObjectStateManager again if it is in the added state. So clearly EF 4 knows somewhere that this is a duplicate based on the key. What's a clean, efficient way for the Repository to update Pocos for either a new or pre-existing object when AddOrUpdate is called so that the subsequent call to SaveChanges() will do the right thing? I did consider carrying an isNew flag on the object itself, but I'm trying to take persistence ignorance as far as practical.

• JSONP request using jquery $.getJSON not working on well formed JSON.

  I'm not sure is it possible now from the url I am trying. Please see this url: http://www.heiaheia.com/voimakaksikko/stats.json It always serves the same padding function "voimakaksikkoStats". It is well formed JSON, but I have not been able to load it from remote server. Does it need some work from the server side or can it be loaded with javascript? I think the problems gotta to have something to with that callback function... JQuery is not requirement, but it would be nice. • Passing object(s) to a Controller Action

  I'm attempting to use jQuery to do a $.post() to an MVC controller action. Here's the jQuery calls: var _authTicket = { username: 'testingu', password: 'testingp' }; function DoPost() { var inputObj = { authTicket: _authTicket, dateRange: 'ThisWeek' }; $.post('/MyController/MyAction', inputObj, PostResult); } function PostResult(data) { alert(JSON.stringify(data)); } Here's the controller action: <HttpPost()> _ Function MyAction(ByVal authTicket As AuthTicket, ByVal dateRange As String) As ActionResult Dim u = ValidateUser(authTicket) If u Is Nothing Then Throw New Exception("User not valid") ' etc.. End Function The problem is, MyAction's "authTicket" parameter is all empty. The second "dateRange" parameter gets populated just fine. I'm pretty sure that the issue stems from jQuery turning the data into key/value pairs to POST to the action. MVC must not understand the format, at least when it's an object with it's own properties. The name/value pair format that jQuery is converting to is like: authTicket[username] = "testingu" authTicket[password] = "testingp" Which in turn gets made into x-www-form-urlencoded'd data: authTicket%5Busername%5D=testingu &authTicket%5Bpassword%5D=testingp I guess I could always have "username" and "password" properties in my actions, but that seems wrong to me. Any help would be appreciated.

• Altering URLs and mapping - path_prefix? - Ruby on Rails...

  Ok, so I am working on a blog application of sorts. Thus far, it allows for a user to sign up for their own account, create posts, tags, comments, etc. I have just implemented the ability to use www.myapp.com/brandon to set @user to find by username and therefore correctly display the users information at each url. So when you go to www.myapp.com/brandon you see all Brandon's posts, tags, and comments associated with those posts, etc. Works great. I implementing this URL mapping through the routes.rb file by adding the following: map.username_link '/:username', :controller => 'posts', :action => 'index' And then just setting the @user variable in the PostController and corresponding views to find_by_username. Now the issue is this. Once at www.myapp.com/brandon when you click on a post title, it sends to myapp.com/posts/id without the username in the URL which blows up my view because nothing is being set for the @user variable. How do I tell Rails to create the link reading www.myapp.com/brandon/posts/id vs www.myapp.com/posts/id and then map that action? I am assuming this will involve some code in the view, and then adding another line in the routes.rb file, map.subdomain_link '/:username/posts/:id', :controller => 'posts', :action => 'show' and adding the @user variable to the PostController#show action, but not totally sure if this is even the right approach. UPDATE: I have been reading about :path_prefix and seems like it might be what I am looking for. I have tried to implement simply by adding map.resources :posts, :path_prefix => '/:user_username/:post_id' to the routes.rb file but not working (even after server restart). I am sure this is not correct but wanted to let you know what I have tried.

• iPhone programming - problem with CoreFoundation forking, PLEASE for the love of god help! lol

  Hello all, I've been working on an iPhone for several months. It's a 2d shooting game akin to the old Smash TV type games. I'm doing everything alone and it has come out well so far, but now I am getting unpredictable crashes which seem to be related to CoreFoundation forking and not exec()ing, as the message THE_PROCESS_HAS_FORKED_AND_YOU_CANNOT_USE_THIS_COREFOUNDATION_FUNCTIONA LITY_YOU_MUST_EXEC__ always shows up somewhere in the debugger. Usually it shows up around a CFRunLoopRunSpecific and is related to either a timer firing or _InitializeTouchTapCount. I cannot figure out exactly what is causing the fork to occur. My main game loop is running on a timer, first updating all the logic and then drawing everything with openGL. There is nothing highly complex or unusual. I understand you cannot make CF calls on the childside of a fork, or access shared memory and things like that. I am not explicitly trying to fork anything. My question is: can anyone tell me what type of activity might cause CoreFoundation to randomly fork like this? I'd really like to finish this game and I don't know how to solve this problem.   I've set up django-filebrowser in my app without any bugs, I already had django-tinymce set up and it loads the editor in the admin forms.   Reference Iterating arrays in a batch file I have the following: for /f "tokens=1" %%Q in ('query termserver') do ( if not ERRORLEVEL ( echo Checking %%Q for /f "tokens=1" %%U in ('query user %UserID% /server:%%Q') do (echo %%Q) ) ) When running query termserver from the command line, the first two lines are: Known ------------------------- ...followed by the list of terminal servers. However, I do not want to include these as part of the query user command. Also, there are about 4 servers I do not wish to include. When I supply UserID with this code, the program is promptly exiting. I know it has something to do with the if statement. Is this not possible to nest flow control inside the for-loop? I had tried setting a variable to exactly the names of the servers I wanted to check, but the iteration would end on the first server: set TermServers=Server1.Server2.Server3.Server7.Server8.Server10 for /f "tokens=2 delims=.=" %%Q in ('set TermServers') do ( echo Checking %%Q for /f "tokens=1" %%U in ('query user %UserID% /server:%%Q') do (echo %%Q) ) I would prefer this second example over the first if nothing else for cleanliness.   I have been using my website (ASP.NET MVC) in visual studio but now I want to host it on my server. I published from visual studio onto the network share to be used. The server is running Windows Home Server, IIS 6 and SQL Server 2008 R2 (express). In Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio, I've attached the database and made sure that the user IUSR_SERVER is owner of the db. I also made sure that the user Network Service has access. The Web Site is configured in IIS to run anonymously as IUSR_SERVER. I have granted write and read access to IUSR_SERVER as well as Network Service and made sure that nothing is read only. This continues to happen no matter how many times i compile/rebuild. Any ideas?

• py2app, pyObjc & macports compilation errors

  Hi, I'm currently writing a small python app that embeds cherrypy and django using py2app. It worked well until I tried to include pyobjc in my project, since my app needed a small GUI (which consists of a small icon in the top menu bar + a drop down menu). I can run my python script without any problem (I'm using python 2.6 with macports), but I can't launch the application bundle generated by py2app. A dialog box appears with the following message: ImportError: dlopen(/Users/denis/tlon/standalone/mac/dist/django_cherry.app/Contents/Resources/lib/python2.6/lib-dynload/CoreFoundation/_inlines.so, 2): no suitable image found. Did find: /Users/denis/tlon/standalone/mac/dist/django_cherry.app/Contents/Resources/lib/python2.6/lib-dynload/CoreFoundation/_inlines.so: mach-o, but wrong architecture I did a quick : sudo port -u install py26-pyobjc +universal but for some reason macports tries to build openssl, with which compilation fails each time. It seems the problem is related to zLib - this is what appears in the logs : :info:build ld: warning: in /opt/local/lib/libz.dylib, file is not of required architecture ...And here is the output of file /opt/local/lib/libz.dylib : /opt/local/lib/libz.dylib: Mach-O universal binary with 2 architectures /opt/local/lib/libz.dylib (for architecture x86_64): Mach-O 64-bit dynamically linked shared library x86_64 /opt/local/lib/libz.dylib (for architecture i386): Mach-O dynamically linked shared library i386 Nothing looks wrong to me. I'm a bit stuck here. I don't even understand what openssl has to do with pyObjc, but it looks like I can't go anywhere if I don't manage to compile it. Macports really suck sometimes :/ EDIT I manage to fix Macports issue, but not py2app one. If I get it right, py2app try to create a 32-bits app, while Core Foundation files on Snow Leopard are for 64 bits architectures. Damn. Either I build this on Leopard, either I have to find a way to create a 64bit app with py2app, but then Snow Leopard only.

• Can't get past "A potentially dangerous Request.Form value was detected..." error

  I'm doing my first ASP.NET MVC2 project and I can't get past the "A potentially dangerous Request.Form value was detected..." error when trying to submit a form. I've done this in MVC1 using the ValidateInputAttribute and I've read about the breaking change in .NET 4 that requires setting the request validation mode in the web.config. Basically I'm doing exactly what is outlined in this thread: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2019843/a-potentially-dangerous-request-form-value-in-mvc-2-asp-net-4-0. Nothing's working though so I must be missing something. • Extremely slow MFMailComposeViewControllerDelegate

  I have a bit of a strange problem. I am trying to send in-app email. I am also using Cocos2d. It works, so far as I get the mail window and I can send mail, but it is extremely slow. It seems to only accept touches every second or so. I checked the cpu usage, and it is quite low. I paused my director, so nothing else should be happening. Any ideas? I am pulling my hair out. I looked at some examples and did the following: Made my scene the mail delegate: @interface MyLayer : CCLayer <MFMailComposeViewControllerDelegate> { ... } And implemented the following function in the scenes: -(void) showEmailWindow: (id) sender { [[CCDirector sharedDirector] pause]; MFMailComposeViewController *picker = [[MFMailComposeViewController alloc] init]; picker.mailComposeDelegate = self; [picker setSubject: @"My subject here"]; NSString *emailBody = @"<h1>Here is my email!</h1>"; [picker setMessageBody:emailBody isHTML:YES]; [myMail presentModalViewController:picker animated:NO]; [picker release]; } I also implemented the mailComposeController, to handle the callback.

  I am trying to write a VB.NET alternative to a C# anonymous function. I wish to call Threading.SynchronizationContext.Current.Send which expects a delegate of type Threading.SendOrPostCallback to be passed to it. The background is here, but because I wish to both pass in a string to MessageBox.Show and also capture the DialogResult I need to define another delegate within. I am struggling with the VB.NET syntax, both from the traditional delegate style, and lambda functions. • Accessing a com object's vtable in c#

  I'm attempting to access a com object's vtable in memory and getting nowhere. From what I have read, the first 4 bytes in memory of a com object should be a pointer to the vtableptr, which in turn is a pointer to the vtable. Although I'm not sure I expect to find my test method at slot 7 in this com object I have tried them all and nothing looks like the address of my function. If anyone can make the necessary changes to this sample to get it to work (the aim is just to try and invoke the Test method on the Tester class by accessing the com object's vtable and locating the method in whichever row it turns up) I would be very grateful. • Texture2D problem

  I have a problem that is driving me crazy, I want to write a number of texts on the screen using Texture2D however I only seem to be able to write the first one. If I individually write one of the labels it works but not if I write all of them, only the first label is displayed. Somebody has an idea what it could be? The states like GL_BLEND and GL_TEXTURE_2D have been enabled in the view setup function. In the Texture2D the dimensions are 512x512 as I pass the whole screen to function. If I don't pass that the text gets enlarged and fuzzy. I am a bit uncertain about that parameter.   I need some help getting some rich snippets to my site I inserted the review microdata following the instructions given on schema.org here http://schema.org/docs/gs.html#advanced_missing using the star-image for rating and the text for review count, but testing it with the test tool it showed nothing.
