Some SVN Repositories not working - 405

I have 2 groups of repositories, web and engineering. I setup web about 3 months ago and it works great, I'm trying to move engineering over to this same SVN server and I'm getting a PROPFIND of /svn/engineering/main: 405 Method Not Allowed error when I try to do a checkout. I need to be able to host several RDP sessions on a Terminal Server, where users of group A see a drive X: mapped to a given folder of the server and another group B see the same drive letter X: mapped to another folder. For instance : User 1, Group A X: --> C:\data\A User 2, Group A X: --> C:\data\A User 3, Group B X: --> C:\data\B User 4, Group C X: --> C:\data\C Is this possible. If so, how do I configure the virtual drive mapping so that the user has nothing special to do; i.e. I want the letter X: to be available to Remote Apps launched by the user, or if the user logs in to the remote desktop. Can I somehow use subst to get this to work? I would like to avoid, if possible, mounting drive letters on local shares (i.e. I don't like the idea of having to go through \\localhost\data-A to reach the user's data).

How to setup RAID 1 with Intel RST on an existing Windows 7 system?

I'd like to setup RAID-1 using Intel Rapid Storage Technology on my Windows 7 64-bit system. I have an 1TB SATA HDD with Windows 7 system installed on the first primary partition (leftmost, ~200GB). The rest of this HDD is unallocated (~800GB). I bought another 2TB SATA, then created a primary partition (leftmost, ~500GB) and filled my data in. The rest of this HDD is unallocated (~1.5TB). A quick disk layout (XXX is the unallocated region): HDD1 (1TB): [ 200GB C:\ SYSTEM | XXXXXXXXXXXX ] HDD2 (2TB): [ 500GB Z:\ PROGRAM | XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX ] Now, I want to create a 500GB RAID-1 partition (I'm not sure if using "partition" is correct here) on the rightmost of the 2 HDDs above without losing any existing data from both disks. Here is the expected layout: HDD1 (1TB): [ 200GB C:\ SYSTEM | XXXXXX | 500GB D:\ DATA - RAID-1 ] HDD2 (2TB): [ 500GB Z:\ PROGRAM | XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX | 500GB D:\ DATA RAID-1] Let's not concern about data lost, is it possible to have that final layout using Intel RST? Previously, I tried this layout using dynamic disk & software RAID from Windows and it worked as expected, however, it's quite ugly in resynching after an OS failure that I don't want. If yes, is there a way to keep the data on existing partitions untouched or, at least, it should keep the SYSTEM partition safe (I'm okay if the PROGRAM partition has to be gone.)? Well, are there any strict/special steps I should follow when using the Intel RST manager in order to achieve that? If none of those questions above are "Yes", could you please suggest some other possible layouts that leave the C:SYSTEM partition untouched?

I am trying to combine multiple rows of data into one. Column A contains the value on which the groupings will be based -- rows whose Column A values match will be combined into one row. My range extends from column A through X so I need a matching row of data to start in column Y. Strategy for Incremental Datasource fetchings in Excel

I am in an scenario with a table that is refresh by a third app every week. I need to keep accumulating all data in Excel, using an ODBC connection to the database. I am wondering Approach 1: Is there a way to force Excel to append results for every update (this update would be triggered according to a parameter that indicates week)? I tried to define the table for which the connection loads using a dynamic reference but once is anchored first time, table position is never redefined Approach 2: Use an ETL to accumulate all weekly results into a staging table and then connect Excel to it in real time. But, I would need a mechanism for caching old data, as I cannot grow exponentially the time Excel opens. Imagine after 10 years, Excel would need to update at opening 10 years fo data before showing it. Is there a way to store already fetched data and increment it at real time (when book is opened) by selecting new data (with a query/filter of something) Thanks EDIT: Maybe it's better to ask it that way: What is the optimal strategy for a table that keeps growing and needs to be read in real time by Excel? I just don't want to fetch absolutely all data after some months...

Selecting whole column except first X (header) cells in Excel

I know I can select all cells in a particular column by clicking on column header descriptor (ie. A or AB). But is it possible to then exclude a few cells out of it, like my data table headings? Example I would like to select data cells of a particular column to set Data Validation (that would eventually display a drop down of list values defined in a named range). But I don't want my data header cells to be included in this selection (so they won't have these drop downs displayed nor will they be validated). What if I later decide to change validation settings of these cells? How can I selection my column then? A sidenote I know I can set data validation on the whole column and then select only those cells that I want to exclude and clear their data validation. What I would like to know is is ti possible to do the correct selection in the first step to avoid this second one. I tried clicking on the column descriptor to select the whole column and then CTRL-click those cells I don't want to include in my selection, but it didn't work as expected.

SQL Server 2005 Disk Configuration: Single RAID 1+0 or multiple RAID 1+0s?

Assuming that the workload for the SQL Server is just a normal OLTP database, and that there are a total of 20 disks available, which configuration would make more sense? A single RAID 1+0, containing all 20 disks. This physical volume would contain both the data files and the transaction log files, but two logical drives would be created from this RAID: one for the data files and one for the log files. Or... Two RAID 1+0s, each containing 10 disks. One physical volume would contain the data files, and the other would contain the log files. The reason for this question is due to a disagreement between me (SQL Developer) and a co-worker (DBA). For every configuration that I've done, or seen others do, the data files and transaction log files were separated at the physical level, and were placed on separate RAIDs. However, my co-workers argument is that by placing all the disks into a single RAID 1+0, then any IO that is done by the server is potentially shared between all 20 disks, instead of just 10 disks in my suggested configuration. Conceptually, his argument makes sense to me. Also, I've found some information from Microsoft that seems to supports his position. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc966414.aspx In the section titled "3. RAID10 Configuration", showing a configuration in which all 20 disks are allocated to a single RAID 1+0, it states: In this scenario, the I/O parallelism can be used to its fullest by all partitions. Therefore, distribution of I/O workload is among 20 physical spindles instead of four at the partition level. But... every other configuration I've seen suggests physically separating the data and log files onto separate RAIDs. Everything I've found here on Server Fault suggests the same. I understand that a log files will be write heavy, and that data files will be a combination of reads and writes, but does this require that the files be placed onto separate RAIDs instead of a single RAID?

Hello, I've not run backups for the past dont't remember anymore years for my personal stuff until waking up lately and realising contrary to my prior belief: Actually. I care! :) Now I have a central data server at home where I want to attach an external media to, to which I want to save backups of my most important stuff, like years of self-written scripts, database dumps, you name it. I've tinkered with rsync+ssh over the last two years, also tried tar over ssh, but don't know the simplest and most easy to maintain way to do it yet. Heres my workload: A typical LAMP-Server (<5GB Data) which I'd like to backup fully so lots of small files connected via 10Mbit My personal stuff (<750GB Data) from a Mac connected via GE My passwords in an encrypted container (100Mb) from OpenBSD connected via serial-PPP My E-Mail from the last ten years (<25GB) as Maildir which I need to keep in readable format Some archives (tar.*) which I need to backup only once and keep in readable format (Deleted my ideas, as I'm here for suggestions) What I need: 1. Use an ssh-tunnel for data transfer 2. Be quick with lots of small files 3. Keep revisions 4. Be sure the data I save is not corrupted 5. Intelligent resume functions and be able to deal with network congestion :) 6. Compressed and optionally encrypted storage 7. Be able to extract data from backup easily (filesystem like usage would be nice) How would and with what software would you backup this stuff? Hints to tools that can help solve only part of my problem (like encryption) also greatly appreciated. Greets

Best Practices for Handing over Legacy Code

In a couple of months a colleague will be moving on to a new project and I will be inheriting one of his projects. To prepare, I have already ordered Michael Feathers' Working Effectively with Legacy Code. But this books as well as most questions on legacy code I found so far are concerned with the case of inheriting code as-is. But in this case I actually have access to the original developer and we do have some time for an orderly hand-over. Some background on the piece of code I will be inheriting: It's functioning: There are no known bugs, but as performance requirements keep going up, some optimizations will become necessary in the not too distant future. Undocumented: There is pretty much zero documentation at the method and class level. What the code is supposed to do at a higher level, though, is well-understood, because I have been writing against its API (as a black-box) for years. Only higher-level integration tests: There are only integration tests testing proper interaction with other components via the API (again, black-box). Very low-level, optimized for speed: Because this code is central to an entire system of applications, a lot of it has been optimized several times over the years and is extremely low-level (one part has its own memory manager for certain structs/records). Concurrent and lock-free: While I am very familiar with concurrent and lock-free programming and have actually contributed a few pieces to this code, this adds another layer of complexity. Large codebase: This particular project is more than ten thousand lines of code, so there is no way I will be able to have everything explained to me. Written in Delphi: I'm just going to put this out there, although I don't believe the language to be germane to the question, as I believe this type of problem to be language-agnostic. I was wondering how the time until his departure would best be spent. Here are a couple of ideas: Get everything to build on my machine: Even though everything should be checked into source code control, who hasn't forgotten to check in a file once in a while, so this should probably be the first order of business. More tests: While I would like more class-level unit tests so that when I will be making changes, any bugs I introduce can be caught early on, the code as it is now is not testable (huge classes, long methods, too many mutual dependencies). What to document: I think for starters it would be best to focus documentation on those areas in the code that would otherwise be difficult to understand e.g. because of their low-level/highly optimized nature. I am afraid there are a couple of things in there that might look ugly and in need of refactoring/rewriting, but are actually optimizations that have been out in there for a good reason that I might miss (cf. Joel Spolsky, Things You Should Never Do, Part I) How to document: I think some class diagrams of the architecture and sequence diagrams of critical functions accompanied by some prose would be best. Who to document: I was wondering what would be better, to have him write the documentation or have him explain it to me, so I can write the documentation. I am afraid, that things that are obvious to him but not me would otherwise not be covered properly. Refactoring using pair-programming: This might not be possible to do due to time constraints, but maybe I could refactor some of his code to make it more maintainable while he was still around to provide input on why things are the way they are. Please comment on and add to this. Since there isn't enough time to do all of this, I am particularly interested in how you would prioritize.

Abstraction, Politics, and Software Architecture

Abstraction can be defined as a general concept and/or idea that lack any concrete details. Throughout history this type of thinking has led to an array of new ideas and innovations as well as increased confusion and conspiracy. If one was to look back at our history they will see that abstraction has been used in various forms throughout our past. When I was growing up I do not know how many times I heard politicians say “Leave no child left behind” or “No child left behind” as a major part of their campaign rhetoric in regards to a stance on education. As you can see their slogan is a perfect example of abstraction because it only offers a very general concept about improving our education system but they do not mention how they would like to do it. If they did then they would be adding concrete details to their abstraction thus turning it in to an actual working plan as to how we as a society can help children succeed in school and in life, but then they would not be using abstraction. By now I sure you are thinking what does abstraction have to do with software architecture. You are valid in thinking this way, but abstraction is a wonderful tool used in information technology especially in the world of software architecture. Abstraction is one method of extracting the concepts of an idea so that it can be understood and discussed by others of varying technical abilities and backgrounds. One ways in which I tend to extract my architectural design thoughts is through the use of basic diagrams to convey an idea for a system or a new feature for an existing application. This allows me to generically model an architectural design through the use of views and Unified Markup Language (UML). UML is a standard method for creating a 4+1 Architectural View Models. The 4+1 Architectural View Model consists of 4 views typically created with UML as well as a general description of the concept that is being expressed by a model. The 4+1 Architectural View Model: Logical View: Models a system’s end-user functionality. Development View: Models a system as a collection of components and connectors to illustrate how it is intended to be developed. Process View: Models the interaction between system components and connectors as to indicate the activities of a system. Physical View: Models the placement of the collection of components and connectors of a system within a physical environment. Recently I had to use the concept of abstraction to express an idea for implementing a new security framework on an existing website. My concept would add session based management in order to properly secure and allow page access based on valid user credentials and last user activity. I created a basic Process View by using UML diagrams to communicate the basic process flow of my changes in the application so that all of the projects stakeholders would be able to understand my idea. Additionally I created a Logical View on a whiteboard while conveying the process workflow with a few stakeholders to show how end-user will be affected by the new framework and gaining additional input about the design. After my Logical and Process Views were accepted I then started on creating a more detailed Development View in order to map how the system will be built based on the concept of components and connections based on the previously defined interactions. I really did not need to create a Physical view for this idea because we were updating an existing system that was already deployed based on an existing Physical View. How to Draw Lines on the Screen

I've seen occasional questions on mailing lists about how to use the NetBeans Visual Library to draw lines, e.g., to make graphs or diagrams of various kinds by drawing on the screen. So, rather than drag/drop causing widgets to be added, you'd want widgets to be added on mouse clicks, and you'd want to be able to connect those widgets together somehow. Via the code below, you'll be able to click on the screen, which causes a dot to appear. When you have multiple dots, you can hold down the Ctrl key and connect them together. A guiding line appears to help you position the dots exactly in line with each other. When you go to File | Print, you'll be able to preview and print the diagram you've created. Also, once lines are connected to form a rectangle, would be cool to be able to write something within that rectangle. Then one could really create diagrams, which would be pretty cool.

I have two numpy arrays 1D, one is time of measurement in datetime64 format, for example: array([2011-11-15 01:08:11, 2011-11-16 02:08:04, ..., 2012-07-07 11:08:00], dtype=datetime64[us]) and other array of same length and dimension with integer data. I'd like to make a plot in matplotlib time vs data. If I put the data directly, this is what I get: plot(timeSeries, data) Is there a way to get time in more natural units? For example in this case months/year would be fine.

Can't connect to local IP address on OSX

I'm trying to connect to a webserver that's running on my mac OSX 1.6. I'm able to connect to it locally using http://127.0.0.1:8888/myapp but when I attempt to connect to it using my machine's local IP address (http://192.168.1.15:8888/myapp IP shown below) from the same machine (or another on the network) I cannot connect. I can ping the LAN IP address. I've tried adding IP forwarding to my router for port 8888 but it didn't help. I've checked and the OSX firewall is disabled Can anyone suggest what else is blocking the connection? The grid has a lot of data and it is displayed accurately but because there are so many data points the horizontal axis is screwed up. Facebook Connect Statistics

All, A client is asking for Facebook Connect statistical data. Specifically, how many people have shared a link to their wall. I have a Facebook app setup but I am having trouble interpreting the statistical data. Do Facebook apps collect this data, or can anyone think of any way of gleaning this data from the past month, from server logs or something? For instance, can I look at the logs for xd_receiver.htm and see usage patterns from that, or something?

WebKit "Refused to set unsafe header "content-length"

I am trying to implement simple xhr abstraction, and am getting this warning when trying to set the headers for a POST. I think it might have something to do with setting the headers in a separate js file, because when i set them in the <script> tag in the .html file, it worked fine. The POST request is working fine, but I get this warning, and am curious why. I get this warning for both content-length and connection headers, but only in WebKit browsers (Chrome 5 beta and Safari 4). In Firefox, I don't get any warnings, the Content-Length header is set to the correct value, but the Connection is set to keep-alive instead of close, which makes me think that it is also ignoring my setRequestHeader calls and generating it's own. I have not tried this code in IE. Silverlight Navigation using Mvvm-light(oobe)+MEF?

What is the best approach for navigating between UserControls/Pages(out of browser experience)? I'm fairly new to Silverlight and even newer to the mvvm pattern. How well does the Navigation Framework Integrate with the MVVM Light Toolkit? A snippet for general application flow control with the two would be great. The plan was to use the Navigation Framework for general flow or using Jeremy Likeness's approach to region management(http://csharperimage.jeremylikness.com/search/label/regions) and swapping out regions as needed. I've seen a few places mention replacing the Visual Root, but that sounded like a hack to me. Any advice, snippets, or a nudge in the general direction would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Lambda Expression to be used in Select() query

Hi, I am trying to build a lambda expression, containing two assignments (as shown further down), that I can then pass to a Queryable.Select() method. I am trying to pass a string variable into a method and then use that variable to build up the lambda expression so that I can use it in a LINQ Select query. My reasoning behind it is that I have a SQL Server datasource with many column names, I am creating a charting application that will allow the user to select, say by typing in the column name, the actual column of data they want to view in the y-axis of my chart, with the x-axis always being the DateTime. Therefore, they can essentially choose what data they chart against the DateTime value (it’s a data warehouse type app).
