  My open source Android application has internationalization done the Android way, with strings.xml files. The community has many people from many countries, and they are willing to contribute/improve translations using a collaborative website. There is Launchpad but it only supports the gettext format so we would have to use scripts, not very convenient. There is Crowdin but somehow this website seems dead, nearly no projects, and the download links do not work. Actually we started using Crowdin but all download links fail to give any strings.xml file back, see here. What website is convenient for translating open source Android applications?

We can easily do this in java using: HashMap copyOfOriginal=new HashMap(original); But what about C++? How should I go about it? UPDATE Well, I am doing it at a very basic level,perhaps the java example was a wrong one to give. This is what I am trying to implement using C++: I have this hash array and each element of the array point to the head of a linked list. Which has it's individual nodes (data and next pointer).   Hi, I would like to construct a hash table that looks up keys in sequences (strings) of bytes ranging from 1 to 15 bytes. I would like to store an integer value, so I imagine an array for hashing would suffice. I'm having difficulty conceptualizing how to construct a hash function such that given the key would give an index into the array. Any assistance would be much appreiated. The maximum number of entries in the hash is: 4081*15 + 4081*14 + ... 4081 = 4081((15*(16))/2) = 489720. So for example: int table[489720]; int lookup(unsigned char *key) { int index = hash(key); return table[index]; } How can I compute hash(key). I'd preferably like to get a perfect hash function. • Can you do icon overlays using Java on Windows OS

  I would like to manupilate badges or icon overlays using Java on windows. Basically some files on the drive to have overlays depending what state those files are in. This should be visible through windows explorer. Something simillar to how DropBox does things. Is that possible? I've seen several articles on this topic but none of them use Java. They all seem to use C++ or C# or COM objects. I was looking for a Java solution for windows. Of course I'd like to have a Java solution on Mac's too. Not sure if this is possible but before I give up I thought I ask.

  I've been searching the net for ~3 hours but I couldn't find a solution yet. I want to give a precomputed kernel to libsvm and classify a dataset, but: How can I generate a precomputed kernel? (for example, what is the basic precomputed kernel for Iris data?) In the libsvm documentation, it is stated that: For precomputed kernels, the first element of each instance must be the ID. For example, samples = [[1, 0, 0, 0, 0], [2, 0, 1, 0, 1], [3, 0, 0, 1, 1], [4, 0, 1, 1, 2]] problem = svm_problem(labels, samples) param = svm_parameter(kernel_type=PRECOMPUTED) What is a ID? There's no further details on that. Can I assign ID's sequentially? Any libsvm help and an example of precomputed kernels really appreciated.

• SQlite: Column format for unix timestamp; Integer types

  Original problem: What is the right column format for a unix timestamp? The net is full of confusion: some posts claim SQLite has no unsigned types - either whatsoever, or with exception of the 64bit int type (but there are (counter-)examples that invoke UNSIGNED INTEGER). The data types page mentions it only in a bigint example. It also claims there is a 6-byte integer but doesn't give a name for it. Of course standard INTEGER being 4-byte signed signed stores unix timestamps as negative numbers. I've heard that some systems return 64-bit timestamps too. OTOH I'm not too fond of wasting 4 bytes to store 1 extra bit (top bit of timestamp), and even if I have to pick a bigger data format, I'd rather go for the 6-byte one. I've even seen a post that claims SQLite unix timestamp is of type REAL... Complete problem: Could someone please clarify that mess?

• MapViewOfFile shared between 32bit and 64bit processes

  Hi, I'm trying to use MapViewOfFile in a 64 bit process on a file that is already mapped to memory of another 32 bit process. It fails and gives me an "access denied" error. Is this a known Windows limitation or am I doing something wrong? Same code works fine with 2 32bit processes.   I've found a feature on two different websites that I'd like to include on one of my web projects, but I can't figure out how they're doing it. I think they're using either jQuery or mootools, but I'm not sure. http://www.x-plane.com/index_desktop.html I'm new here so I don't have the reputation to post the other link, but if you do a Google search for "Andrews Institute of Orthopaedics" its the top result. I'll see if I can answer a few questions to earn my keep. The thing that I like about these is that the images and text (including links) are all rotated together. I've done a few web searches related to cycle, rotate and slide but it's not coming together for me. Can anyone give me a nudge in the right direction?

• Ivy and Snapshots (Nexus)

  Hey folks, I'm using ant, ivy and nexus repo manager to build and store my artifacts. I managed to get everything working: dependency resolution and publishing. Until I hit a problem... (of course!). I was publishing to a 'release' repo in nexus, which is locked to 'disable redeploy' (even if you change the setting to 'allow redeploy' (really lame UI there imo). You can imagine how pissed off I was getting when my changes weren't updating through the repo before I realised that this was happening. Anyway, I now have to switch everything to use a 'Snapshot' repo in nexus. Problem is that this messes up my publish. I've tried a variety of things, including extensive googling, and haven't got anywhere whatsoever. The error I get is a bad PUT request, error code 400. Can someone who has got this working please give me a pointer on what I'm missing. Many thanks, Alastair fyi, here's my config: Note that I have removed any attempts at getting snapshots to work as I didn't know what was actually (potentially) useful and what was complete guff.   Hey, I am working on nesting of sheet metal parts and am implementing Minkowski Sums to find No Fit Polygons for nesting. The problem is I can give only convex sets as input to the code which calculates Minkowski sums for me. Hence I need to break a concave polygon, with holes into Convex sets. I am open to triangulation also, but I am looking for a working code on VC++ (6.0). I am slightly running short on time as my whole code is ready and just waiting for input in the form of convex sets. I would really appreciate if somebody with prior experience can help me in this. I have gone through other posts but did not find anything matching to this. I am a student of mechanical engineering and really dun have much idea about computer languages. Currently, I am working on a project that exposes a different classes and functions to user as scripting interface. the user can use the objects from custom scripting interface and call methods to solve some specific problem. The problem I am facing is users of my classes need some sort of documentation in order to write their script efficiently. • Display MySQL BLOB'd image on webpage without separate script (PHP)

  So I've got some images stored in a MySQL database as BLOB's (I know it's better to just store the directory and do it that way, but this is what I need to do for now) and I need to display them on a webpage. Now, I know how to make a script and give it an image header and pull the img src from there, but I have a lot of images from different places for different uses, so I'd have to make a ton of these scripts and I'd rather not clutter up my files like that. Anyway, does anyone know of a function or something I can use to display the image that will run on the same page?

• What Will Happen to Real Estate Leases when Operating Leases are Gone?

  Many people are concerned about what will happen to real estate leases when FASB and IASB abolish operating leases. They plan to unveil the proposed standards on treating leases this summer as part of the convergence project but no "finalized ruling" is expected for at least a year because it will need to get formal consensus from many players, such as the SEC, American Association of Investors, Congress, the Big Four, American Associate of Realtors, the international equivalents of these, etc. If your accounting is a bit rusty, an Operating Lease is where you lease equipment or some asset for a shorter period than the actual (expected) life of the asset and then give the asset back while it still has some useful life in it. (Think leasing a car). Because an Operating Lease does not contain any of the provisions that would qualify it as a Capital Lease, the lease is not treated as a sale or purchase and hits the lessee's rental expense and the lessor's revenue. So it all stays on the P&L (assuming no prepayments are made). Capital Leases, on the other hand, hit lessee's and lessor's balance sheets because the asset is treated as a sale. (I'm ignoring interest and depreciation here to emphasize my point). Question: What will happen to real estate leases when Operating Leases go away and how will Oracle Financials address these changes? Before I attempt to address these questions, here's a real-life example to expound on some of the issues: Let's say a U.S. retailer leases a store in a mall for 15 years. Under U.S. GAAP, the lease is considered an operating or expense lease. Will that same lease be considered a capital lease under IFRS? Real estate leases are supposedly going to be capitalized under IFRS. If so, will everyone need to change all leases from operating to capital? Or, could we make some adjustments so we report the lease as an expense for operations reporting but capitalize it for SEC reporting? Would all aspects of the lease be capitalized, or would some line items still be expensed? For example, many retail store leases are defined to include (1) the agreed-to rent amount; (2) a negotiated increase in base rent, e.g., maybe a 5% increase in Year 5; (3) a sales rent component whereby the retailer pays a variable additional amount based on the sales generated in the prior month; (4) parking lot maintenance fees. Would the entire lease be capitalized, or would some portions still be expensed? To help answer these questions, I met up with our resident accounting expert and walking encyclopedia, Seamus Moran. Here's what he had to say: Oracle is aware of the potential changes specific to reporting/capitalization of real estate leases; i.e., we are aware that FASB and IASB have identified real estate leases as one of the areas for standards convergence. Oracle stays apprised of the on-going convergence through our domain expertise staff, our relationship with customers, our market awareness, and, of course, our relationships with the Big 4. This is part of our normal process with respect to regulatory compliance worldwide. At this time, Oracle expects that the standards convergence committee will make a recommendation about reporting standards for real estate leases in about a year. Following typical procedures, we also expect that the recommendation will be up for review for a year, and customers will then need to start reporting to the new standard about a year after that. So that means we would expect the first customer to report under the new standard in maybe 3 years. Typically, after the new standard is finalized and distributed, we find that our customers then begin to evaluate how they plan to meet the new standard. And through groups like the Customer Advisory Boards (CABs), our customers tell us what kind of product changes are needed in order to satisfy their new reporting requirements. Of course, Oracle is also working with the Big 4 and Accenture and other implementers in order to ascertain that these recommended changes will indeed meet new reporting standards. So the best advice we can offer right now is, stay apprised of the standards convergence committee; know that Oracle is also staying abreast of developments; get involved with your CAB so your voice is heard; know that Oracle products continue to be GAAP compliant, and we will continue to maintain that as our standard. But exactly what is that "standard"--we need to wait on the standards convergence committee. In a nut shell, operating leases will become either capital leases or month to month rentals, but it is still too early, too political and too uncertain to call out at this point.

• How to implement didReceiveMemoryWarning ?

  Hello all , I have developed a simple location aware iPhone application which is functionally working very well to our expectations except in the low memory condition of the phone . In low memory condition of the phone my app just got crashes and If I increases the phone memory by freeing up some space it again start working well without any crash . when I do some googling on the problem I found that in the low memory conditions the os will send didReceiveMemoryWarning to all the controllers in the current hierarchy so that each one of them should implement didReceiveMemoryWarning method and also set nil to iboutlet for the view that is currently not visible . I have also read somewhere that if the view for that controller is not visible the method setView with nil parameter will be called and if there are some outlet variables attached to view there will be problem in removing them. So with all these fundas what is the best to handle low level memory condition raised by the Iphone by implementing the didReceiveMemoryWarning and viewDidUnload methods. Please give a proper example or link if possible for the solution of the above problem . thanks.

  Hello, I need a sorted stack. I mean, the element removed from the stack must be the one with great priority. Stack dimension varies a lot (becomes bigger very fast). I need also to search elements in that stack. Does Java give some good implementation for this? What class or algorithm do you suggest for this? I'm using a PriorityQueue right now which I consider reasonable except for searching, so Im wondering if I can use something better. Thanks in advance!

  I need to create Unit Tests for an ASP.NET MVC 2.0 web site. The site uses Windows Authentication. I've been reading up on the necessity to mock the HTTP context for code that deals with the HttpContext. I feel like I'm starting to get a handle on the DI pattern as well. (Give the class an attribute of type IRepository and then pass in a Repository object when you instantiate the controller.) What I don't understand, however, is the proper way to Mock the Windows Principal object available through User.Identity. Is this part of the HttpContext? • Get seconds since epoch in any POSIX compliant shell

  I'd like to know if there's a way to get the number of seconds since the UNIX epoch in any POSIX compliant shell, without resorting to non-POSIX languages like perl, or using non-POSIX extensions like GNU awk's strftime function. Here are some solutions I've already ruled out... date +%s // Doesn't work on Solaris I've seen some shell scripts suggested before, which parse the output of date then derive seconds from the formatted gregorian calendar date, but they don't seem to take details like leap seconds into account. GNU awk has the strftime function, but this isn't available in standard awk. I could write a small C program which calls the time function, but the binary would be specific to a particular architecture. Is there a cross platform way to do this using only POSIX compliant tools? I'm tempted to give up and accept a dependency on perl, which is at least widely deployed. perl -e 'print time' // Cheating (non-POSIX), but should work on most platforms

  How would one consume an ICS file in YQL? I've had some success with using Yahoo Pipe's Fetch Feed Source, but was wondering if it's possible to do this entirely in YQL. Any ideas?

• Neon toolkit and Gate Web Service

  I am trying to run any of the services from gate web service, in neon 2.3. Even Annie that runs so well in gate doesn't run, or better, it stay for indefinite time processing, a thing that should take no more than a couple of seconds. I run wizard, set input directory, leave file pattern as default and set a folder and name for the output ontology, shouldn't it be enough? Shouldn't i get something, even an error? • OpenGL basics: calling glDrawElements once per object

  Hi all, continuing on from my explorations of the basics of OpenGL (see this question), I'm trying to figure out the basic principles of drawing a scene with OpenGL. I am trying to render a simple cube repeated n times in every direction. My method appears to yield terrible performance : 1000 cubes brings performance below 50fps (on a QuadroFX 1800, roughly a GeForce 9600GT). My method for drawing these cubes is as follows: done once: set up a vertex buffer and array buffer containing my cube vertices in model space set up an array buffer indexing the cube for drawing as 12 triangles done for each frame: update uniform values used by the vertex shader to move all cubes at once done for each cube, for each frame: update uniform values used by the vertex shader to move each cube to its position call glDrawElements to draw the positioned cube Is this a sane method ? If not, how does one go about something like this ? I'm guessing I need to minimize calls to glUniform, glDrawElements, or both, but I'm not sure how to do that. • SSRS 2005 - Usability analysis - Is SSRS a good option for this scenario?

  How practical is it to consider SSRS 2005 or SSRS 2008 as a reporting solution for a report that has to show reports with millions of records (records vary from 3 to 10 million)? Is there any threshold on the size of report in SSRS? How do I know that for a huge report, wheather SSRS will consume the whole memory and start paging the operations to disk or it will give a memory leak error? Even if I keep on increasing the memory how can I be sure that certain memory will be sufficient for such huge reports for the report server? All the above questions are haunting me because I have a dedicated report server with a decent hardware and OS configuration (8 processors, 8GB RAM, 64 bit OS and 64 bit SQL Server 2005). Still my report with around 2 million records is taking more than 6 minutes and going from one page to another takes 3 minutes!!! My datasource is on separate server and when I execute only the stored proc there, it returns the results in less than 2 minutes.

  hi, i am using the following private BlogDataContext db = new BlogDataContext (); article.Created = DateTime.UtcNow; article.Modified = DateTime.UtcNow; db.Articles.InsertOnSubmit(article); db.SubmitChanges( ); int id = article.Id; i am wondering is this save, i mean will it give me the Id of the article user inserted or will there be case of concurrences if another user update the article in fraction of second after this user ? thanks in advanced.
