  • Script that replaces strings doesn't work on some sites

    - by groovy354
    I've created a simple Chrome extension that seeks for certain strings using regex and replaces matches with predefined text. It works well on most websites, but somehow the script doesn't take effect on, for example, Lifehacker (like this page http://lifehacker.com/5939740/five-best-audio-editing-applications?popular=true ). The code is: $('p, h1, h2, h3, span, .content, .post-body').each(function(){ //do something with $(this) }); Any ideas why is Lifehacker's site resistant to my script?

  • render json data returned from mvc controller

    - by user1765862
    I'm having js function which calls mvc controller action method which return list of data as json. function FillCountryCities(countryId) { $.ajax({ type: 'GET', url: '/User/FillCityCombo', data: { countryId: countryId }, contentType: 'application/json', success: function (data) { alert(data[0].Name); } error: function () { alert('something bad happened'); } .... format of data which sent back from controller is Name (string) and Id (Guid) Now I just want to alert Name on success first item from collection. Double checked controller sends 20 records, so it should alert first from collection but I'm getting error something bad happened update: public JsonResult FillCityCombo(Guid countryId) { var cities = repository.GetData() .Where(x = x.Country.Id == countryId).ToList(); if (Request.IsAjaxRequest()) { return new JsonResult { Data = cities, JsonRequestBehavior = JsonRequestBehavior.AllowGet }; } else { return new JsonResult { Data = "Not Valid Request", JsonRequestBehavior = JsonRequestBehavior.AllowGet }; } }

Is this possible?

  • Assigning function within function object without invoking the function itself.

    - by webzide
    Dear experts, I am trying to assign an function within an function object property without actually invoking then function itself. for instance, I have the following function object class definition function objectOne(name, value, id){ this.name=name; this.value=value; this.id=id; this.methodOne=methodFunction(this); } the last line this.methodOne=methodFunction(this); I want to pass the current object to the function but at the same time i don't want to execute the function right now. But if I do it this way without the bracket this.methodOne=methodFunction then the argument of this object would not be passed as a parameter to the function. Is there a way to work through this. Thank you in advance

  • Alternate colors on click with jQuery

    - by Jace Cotton
    I'm sure there is a simple solution to this, and I'm sure this is a duplicate question, though I have been unable to solve my solution particularly because I don't really know how to phrase it in order to search for other questions/solutions, so I'm coming here hoping for some help. Basically, I have spans with classes that assigns a background-color property, and inside those spans are words. I have three of these spans, and each time a user clicks on a span I want the class to change (thus changing the background color and inner text). HTML: <span class="alternate"> <span class="blue showing">Lorem</span> <span class="green">Ipsum</span> <span class="red">Dolor</span> </span> CSS: .alternate span { display : none } .alternate .showing { display : inline } .blue { background : blue } .green { background : green } .red { background : red } jQuery: $(".alternate span").each(function() { $(this).on("click", function() { $(this).removeClass("showing"); $(this).next().addClass("showing"); }); }); This solution works great using $.next until I get to the third click, whereafter .showing is removed, and is not added since there are no more $.next options. How do I, after getting to the last-child, add .showing to the first-child and then start over? I have tried various options including if($(".alternate span:last-child").hasClass("showing")) { etc. etc. }, and I attempted to use an array and for loop though I failed to make it work. Newb question, I know, but I can't seem to solve this so as a last resort I'm coming here.

  • How do I upload a file when I know the client's filepath?

    - by GJTorikian
    I'm interested in the way Sonic Living detects your iTunes library XML file. It prompts the user to approve its actions, then automatically uploads the XML file based on the client OS (and assuming the default installation path of iTunes). How the heck does it do that? None of the upload libraries I've looked at have this feature. They all assume that a user will click "Select file..." then browse around for the right thing to upload.

    - by Maletor
    I'm looking to write a comparator to sort my items in a list. For items without an end year they should be at the top. For items with an end year they should be next. For items with the same end year the one with the lowest start year should be next. • IE event for right-click delete on <input> or <textarea>

    - by Jayraj
    What event is fired when you right-click on selected text in an <input> or <textarea> tag and the click "Delete" in Internet Explorer (I'm targeting version 9, but if it's good for lower versions too, all the better). On other browsers , the "input" event appears to work for all text changes through right-click so doing $("textarea").on("input", function() {...}); works. IE works for cut and paste, but not delete (JSFiddle here) although MDN claims that IE is supported.

  • jquery window.unload triggers post after unload

    - by index
    I am trying to do a post to server before unloading a page and I followed this and it's working fine. My problem is the $.post on window.unload is triggered after it has unloaded. I tried it with a signout link and checking on my logs, I get the following: Started GET "/signout" for 127.0.0.1 at 2012-11-22 00:15:08 +0800 Processing by SessionsController#destroy as HTML Redirected to http://localhost:3000/ Completed 302 Found in 1ms Started GET "/" for 127.0.0.1 at 2012-11-22 00:15:08 +0800 Processing by HomeController#index as HTML Rendered home/index.html.erb within layouts/application (0.4ms) Rendered layouts/_messages.html.erb (0.1ms) Completed 200 OK in 13ms (Views: 12.9ms) Started POST "/unloading" for 127.0.0.1 at 2012-11-22 00:15:08 +0800 Processing by HomeController#unloading as */* Parameters: {"p1"=>"1"} WARNING: Can't verify CSRF token authenticity Completed 500 Internal Server Error in 0ms NoMethodError (undefined method `id' for nil:NilClass): app/controllers/home_controller.rb:43:in `unloading' First part is the signout and then user gets redirected to root then it runs the post ('/unloading'). Is there a way to make the '/unloading' execute first then execute whatever the unload action was? I have this as my jquery post $(window).unload -> $.ajax { async: false, beforeSend: (xhr) -> xhr.setRequestHeader('X-CSRF-Token', $('meta[name="csrf-token"]').attr('content')) , url: '/unloading' , type: 'Post' , data: { p1: '1' } }

  • UIWebView load remote html page with local images and javascript files

    - by BlueNile
    Im creating application that will display remote page on the UIWebView using local images and javascript/css files for faster loading. I want to avoid using cache because for this to work it must first load all the content. I was searching online for possible solution. Here is what I have: NSURLRequest *urlrequest = [ [NSURLRequest alloc] initWithURL: [NSURL URLWithString:urlString] ]; NSData *returnData = [ NSURLConnection sendSynchronousRequest:urlrequest returningResponse: nil error: nil ]; NSString *HTMLData = [[NSString alloc] initWithData:returnData encoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding]; NSString *resourcePath = [[NSBundle mainBundle] resourcePath]; resourcePath = [resourcePath stringByReplacingOccurrencesOfString:@"/" withString:@"//"]; resourcePath = [resourcePath stringByReplacingOccurrencesOfString:@" " withString:@"%20"]; [webView loadHTMLString:HTMLData baseURL: [NSURL URLWithString: [NSString stringWithFormat:@"file:/%@//",resourcePath] ]]; urlString is defined and I moved files to the app bundle. Code works as I can see the remote page but no images nor javascript files are present.

  • Custom events and event pooling in jQuery - What's the point?

    - by Nick Lowman
    I've been reading about custom events in jQuery and why they should be used but I'm still clearly missing the point. There is a very good article I read here that has the following code example; function UpdateOutput() { var name = $('#txtName').val(); var address = $('#txtAddress').val(); var city = $('#txtCity').val(); $('#output').html(name + ' ' + address + ' ' + city); } $(document).bind('NAME_CHANGE ADDRESS_CHANGE CITY_CHANGE', function() { UpdateOutput(); }); $('#txtAddress').keyup(function() { $(document).trigger('ADDRESS_CHANGE'); }); $('#txtCity').keyup(function() { $(document).trigger('CITY_CHANGE'); }); Can someone tell me why I just don't call the UpdateOutput() function directly? It would still work exactly the same way, i.e. $('#txtAddress').keyup(function() { UpdateOutput() }); $('#txtCity').keyup(function() { UpdateOutput() }); Many thanks

  • Concatenate an each loop inside another

    - by Lothar
    I want to to concatenate the results of a jquery each loop inside of another but am not getting the results I expect. $.each(data, function () { counter++; var i = 0; var singlebar; var that = this; tableRow = '<tr>' + '<td>' + this.foo + '</td>' + $.each(this.bar, function(){ singlebar = '<td>' + that.bar[i].baz + '</td>'; tableRow + singlebar; }); '</tr>'; return tableRow; }); The portion inside the nested each does not get added to the string that is returned. I can console.log(singlebar) and get the expected results in the console but I cannot concatenate those results inside the primary each loop. I have also tried: $.each(this.bar, function(){ tableRow += '<td>' + that.bar[i].baz + '</td>'; }); Which also does not add the desired content. How do I iterate over this nested data and add it in the midst of the table that the primary each statement is building?

  • observing multiple select menus with prototype

    - by snaken
    Hi, I want to observe multiple select menus and respond to their changes using prototype but only the first menu seems to be observed. This is my code: $('product_options').select('select').invoke("observe","change",optchange); If there are - for example - 3 selects within product_options then it only observes the first, i thought it might be because of invoke so i then tried this: $('product_options').select('select').each(function(sel){ $(sel).observe("change",optchange); }); Still doesnt work though, any ideas whats wrong?
