• Why would the IE Developer Toolbar claim a style is applied, yet that supposed fact is not reflected

  I have a situation where IE7 is simply not applying styles, even though it claims it is. I have an element on my page. In the CSS, I have defined a rule that should apply "display: none" to it, so it should not be displayed. It's still displaying. I downloaded the IE Developer Toolbar, and found the element in the DOM selector. I right-clicked and selected "Applied Styles." Right there, IE claims that it is applying my "display: none" rule. In fact, the "Applied Styles" dialog confirms everything I think I know about my CSS and how it should be applied. Yet the element remains. Now, I'm not asking anyone to debug my CSS here. I'm asking, if the IE Developer Toolbar claims/confirms this element should be gone, but it's still there...what does that mean, exactly? Since the Toolbar is on my side, I think my CSS is fine. Is there some IE7 bug I'm not considering? Edit: One thing that might be relevant: the LINK elements that load the stylesheets are applied to the page in Javascript, via "document.write". I'm starting to suspect that has something to do with it.

• How to find Tomcat's PID and kill it in python?

  Normally, one shuts down Apache Tomcat by running its shutdown.sh script (or batch file). In some cases, such as when Tomcat's web container is hosting a web app that does some crazy things with multi-threading, running shutdown.sh gracefully shuts down some parts of Tomcat (as I can see more available memory returning to the system), but the Tomcat process keeps running.   My list view layout is similar to Pinterest, with absolutely positioned blocks. Unfortunately, this seems to require a full re-initialization at refresh. If reload only the store (as below) the new blocks are incorrectly positioned. How do I reload the app when the user clicks on refresh? • Where to prompt for required file location at start of Win Forms application

  I have an application that uses a file to store its data. I store the location of the file in the app settings so have two tests at startup: Do I have a setting for the file and Does the file (if I have a setting) exist If I fail either test I want to prompt the user for the file location - the mechanics of the are not the problem, I can read and write the app settings, fire off dialogs and otherwise request the data. If the user refuses to choose a file (or at least a file location) I want to exit the app. My problem is where to do this i.e. at what point in the flow of code. In an ideal world you start the app, show a splash screen, load the main form and run from there... I'm looking for a general pattern that allows me to slot the test for parameters into the right place so that I can prompt the user for whatever (and allowing that I have to worry about the fact that my splash screen is currently topmost for my app). I appreciate that this is a bit vague so will update this with code as we go along.

• [AS3] Calling Php Script with UTF-8 POST variables

  AS3 documentation says that Strings in AS3 are in UTF-16 format. There is a textbox on a Flash Clip where user can type some data. When a button is clicked, I want this data to be sent to a php script. I have everything set up, but it seems that the PHP script gets the data in UTF-16 format. • Crystal Reports.NET problems accessing FieldObject for page count

  Hi, We're using Crystal Reports.NET that was bundled with VS2005. We have a confirmation booking form letter report that we want to batch print. Generally this prints one page per person on letterhead paper, however occasionally if they've booked lots of courses the letter rolls over to two pages. The second page should not be printed to letterhead paper. Basically, because it's a rare occurance I was just going to print the lot and pause if a particular letter went over 1 page. I.e. Load the report, grab the page count, hollah at the user if it's more than one page otherwise carry on regardless. I have dropped a TotalPageCount on the footer of my report (Which I would supress if it worked!) and then try and read it in my application. Once I've loaded the document I am trying to call report.ReportDefinition.ReportObjects("TotalPageCount1") Which is of type CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.FieldObject I cannot seem to get the value out of this for love nor money (nor any amount of cursing and swearing!) I can read any items of type TextObject, but if I append the TotalPageCount to a text field, it shows correctly in the report but then returns "Page count: TotalPageCount" rather than "Page count: 1" for example. Soo, short of going out of my mind, does anyone have any suggestions? Either a way to read the value or a way round it. The printer doesn't have multiple trays, though even if we got one, I'm not sure how to convince crystal to print different pages to different trays. • Producing a static HTML site from XML content

  I have a long document in XML from which I need to produce static HTML pages (for distribution via CD). I know (to varying degrees) JavaScript, PHP and Python. The current options I've considered are listed here: I'm not ruling out JavaScript, so one option would be to use ajax to dynamically load the XML content into HTML pages. Learn some basic XSLT and produce HTML to the correct spec this way. Produce the site with PHP (for example) and then generate a static site. Write a script (in Python for example) to convert the XML into HTML. This is similar to the XSLT option but without having to learn XSLT. Useful information: The XML will likely change at some point, so I'd like to be able to easily regenerate the site. I'll have to produce some kind of menu for jumping around the document (so I'll need to produce some kind of index of the content). I'd like to know if anyone has any better ideas that I haven't thought of. If not, I'd like you to tell me which of my options seems the most sensible. I think I know what I'm going to do, but I'd like a second opinion. Thanks.

• Same session and session ID for different subdomains in Grails project - How can I do that?

  I am currently working on a project that supports multiple languages. In order to be seo friendly, I am trying to redirect users subdomains corresponding to their locale (or their preferred language). I.e., my projects's url is mydomain.com and I work with the subdomains en.mydomain.com, es.mydomain.com, de.mydomain.com, fr.mydomain.com ... you get the idea. All subdomains are served by the same grails app for now. What happens is that my grails project maintains different sessions (as seen by the session ids) for every single subdomain, hence information is lost, when a user switches between languages. I had not forseen that. :( How can I explicitly set the session identifier? I would like it to be based on just mydomain.com. I got the hint that Apache Tomcat offers something like <Context sessionCookiePath="/" sessionCookieDomain=".mydomain.com"> , but that does not help for the devel environment etc. Any hints? Have you tried storing session information in the DB? This is sometimes used for load-balancing purposes and might help here as well?! Help is highly appreciated (as always)! Cheers!

• Custom Silverlight Splash Screen causes White Screen of Death

  I'm developing a Silverlight 4 application and I've created a custom splash screen. At first glance, the custom splash screen worked well - really well. After a few days I started noticing that the splash screen would no longer show and the screen would remain blank. This seems to only occur when I open multiple IE tabs/windows all pointing to this same application. The first few will load fine, while the following tabs/windows will remain "white" - as if nothing has/is loaded. This doesn't appear to be an issue with other browsers that I've tested with (i.e., Firefox and Chrome). Unfortunately, this product requires multiple screens to be open (and I'm not going to require our users to use a non-Microsoft internet browser). Furthermore, we have another product that hosts this Silverlight application inside a WPF WebBrowser control (which is similar to IE - and experiences the same issues as delineated above). Does anyone have any ideas on how to get around this? This is becoming increasingly frustrating. I should also point out, that the default splash screen seems to avoid these issues. When I remove the custom splash screen, we no longer see these problems. ANY help would be appreciated greatly! -Tom

• Manually Trigger or Prevent Javascript Lazy Loading in Website from Bookmarklet

  One of the problems with using a bookmarklet for grabbing images on a page is that if a website uses lazy loading, the bookmarklet won't detect the image because it will have a placeholder, e.g. "grey.gif" and not the actual source of the image. Javascript on page load, is run to replace these urls. I'm looking for a solution to retrieve those images that are not being displayed by either triggering or preventing Lazy Loading from running. This bookmarklet isn't limited to one specific domain. So far some ideas I've had are: Ping the domain and retrieve the page html if no images are found the first time around: Problem: this then requires parsing the actual html. Problem: with lazy loading, a few images will always show, just none below the fold. Scroll page to initiate lazy loading when bookmarklet is clicked, then scroll back to top. Trigger Lazy Loading from inside bookmarklet using script. Lazy Loader adds the "original" attribute, potentially could check if attribute exists w/ value. Problem: ???

• Can I force the auto-generated Linq-to-SQL classes to use an OUTER JOIN?

  Let's say I have an Order table which has a FirstSalesPersonId field and a SecondSalesPersonId field. Both of these are foreign keys that reference the SalesPerson table. For any given order, either one or two salespersons may be credited with the order. In other words, FirstSalesPersonId can never be NULL, but SecondSalesPersonId can be NULL. When I drop my Order and SalesPerson tables onto the "Linq to SQL Classes" design surface, the class builder spots the two FK relationships from the Order table to the SalesPerson table, and so the generated Order class has a SalesPerson field and a SalesPerson1 field (which I can rename to SalesPerson1 and SalesPerson2 to avoid confusion). Because I always want to have the salesperson data available whenever I process an order, I am using DataLoadOptions.LoadWith to specify that the two salesperson fields are populated when the order instance is populated, as follows: dataLoadOptions.LoadWith<Order>(o => o.SalesPerson1); dataLoadOptions.LoadWith<Order>(o => o.SalesPerson2); The problem I'm having is that Linq to SQL is using something like the following SQL to load an order: SELECT ... FROM Order O INNER JOIN SalesPerson SP1 ON SP1.salesPersonId = O.firstSalesPersonId INNER JOIN SalesPerson SP2 ON SP2.salesPersonId = O.secondSalesPersonId This would make sense if there were always two salesperson records, but because there is sometimes no second salesperson (secondSalesPersonId is NULL), the INNER JOIN causes the query to return no records in that case. What I effectively want here is to change the second INNER JOIN into a LEFT OUTER JOIN. Is there a way to do that through the UI for the class generator? If not, how else can I achieve this? (Note that because I'm using the generated classes almost exclusively, I'd rather not have something tacked on the side for this one case if I can avoid it).

This happens if the faces-initialization does not work at all - make sure that you properly include all configuration settings necessary for a basic faces application and that all the necessary libs are included. Also check the logging output of your web application and your container for any exceptions! If you did that and find nothing, the mistake might be due to the fact that you use some special web-containers which do not support registering context-listeners via TLD files and a context listener is not setup in your web.xml. A typical config looks like this; org.apache.myfaces.webapp.StartupServletContextListener Caused by: java.lang.IllegalStateException - No Factories configured for this Application. This happens if the faces-initialization does not work at all - make sure that you properly include all configuration settings necessary for a basic faces application and that all the necessary libs are included.   Hi all ! I've made a ViewBased app, in the app delegate i've set a UITabBarCotntroller, in the app i have different view Controller two of them displays text in a UITextView and labels, the other one is my "ShakeController" a UIViewController in which i've set a UIAcelerometerDelegate, in it i create a instance of UIAccelerometer, in the method which manages the shake everything works fine, in this controller i have also set a UIImageView to make a simple animation, in the view Did Load method i set my imageView.animation to an array of UIImage. My problem is : when the app is launched i use the ViewControllers and everything work fine, but when i tap the ShakeController item in the tab bar and then when i come back to the other controllers the label looks like : label and textView like : Lorem ipsum..... the text of UItextView in IB. I have noticed thaht if i comment the initialisation of my imageView to the array of image i can navigate the items (from a view controller to another) without the label change and stay what i want them to be. Notice that the two controllers are in a UINavigationController. (i use @proprety (nonnatomic, retain) then @synthesize ... then releqse in the dealloc for the labels textview and my uiimageView) Do not know what to do thanks to all

  Please excuse the context of my question for I did not know how to exactly word it. To not complicate things further, here's my business requirement: "bring me back all the Employees where they belong in Department "X". So when I view this, it will display all of the Employees that belong to this Department. Here's my environment: Silverlight 3 with Entity Framework 1.0 and WCF Data Services 1.0. I am able to load and bind all kinds of lists (simple), no problem. I don't feel that my environment matters and that's why I feel it is a LINQ question more than the technologies. My question is for scenarios where I have 3 tables linked, i.e. entities (collections). For example, I have this in my EDM: Employee--EmployeeProject--Project. Here's the table design from the Database: Employee (table1) ------------- EmployeeID (PK) FirstName other Attributes ... EmployeeProject (table2) ------------- EmployeeProjectID (PK) EmployeeID (FK) ProjectID (FK) AssignedDate other Attributes ... Project (table3) ------------- ProjectID (PK) Name other Attributes ... • Which technology should I use to transform my latex documents into html documents

  Hey, I want to write a little program that transforms my TeX files into HTML. I want to parse the documents and turn the macros (the build-in and of course my own) into HTML pieces. Here are my requirements: predefined rules (e.g. begin{itemize} \item text \end{itemize} = <br> <p>text </p> <br/>) defining own CSS style ability to convert formulars (extract the formulars, load them in an imagecreator and then save the jpg/png) easy to maintain and concise I know there are several technologies out there, but I don't exactly know which is the best for me. Here are the technologies which flow into my mind Ruby (I/O is easy, formular loading via webrat), XML XSLT (I don't think that I need just overhead) perl (there are many libs out there but I'm not quite familiar with it) bash (I worked with sed and was surprised how easy it was to work with regular expressions) latex2html ... (these converters won't work for me and they don't give me freedom in parsing) Any suggestions, hints and comments are welcome. Thanks for your time, folks.

• Loading default value in a dropdown and calling onchange event

  Hi i have following dropdown <div class="fcolumn"> <label class="text" for="o_Id">Months:</label> <select class="textMonths" id="o_Id" name="periodName" > <option value="000">Select Period--</option> </select> </div> In the following jquery, first it loads fnLoadP() in a drop down list. Than as a default I am loading one of the values in drop down which is '10'. It loads too as default value. But it should be executing $("#o_Id").change.. which it doesn't. $(document).ready(function () { var sProfileUserId = null; $("#o_Id").change(function () { //---- }); fnLoadP(); $("select[name='pName']").val('10'); }); }); Basically my goal is. After dropdown values are loaded, to load '10' as default value and call onchange event in the dom. Please let me know how to fix it.

  I'm generating your typical Web 2.0 HTML page with PHP: it contains a lot of <script> tags and javascript code that will substantially change the DOM after the load event. Is there a way to get the final HTML code directly from PHP, without opening the page with any browser? For example, let's say the HTML for the page is (it's just an example): <html> <head> <script>...the jquery library code...</script> <script>$(document).ready(function() { $("body").append("<p>Hi!</p>");</script> </head> <body> </body> </html> This HTML is saved in the $html PHP variable. Now, I want to pass that variable to some function that will return $result = <html>....<body><p>Hi!</p></body></html>. Is this possible?

  I've got a "Loading Progress" WPF form which I instantiate when I start loading some results into my Main Window, and every time a result is loaded I want the progress bar to fill up by x amount (Based on the amount of results I'm loading). However what happens is that the Progress bar in the window stays blank the entire time, until the results have finished loading, then it will just display the full progress bar. Does this need threading to work properly?
