• No display but video card fans spins

  Since I moved my computer there's no display when I plug my screen in the video card but works fine in the mother board. I tried reseting the cmos, but I still have the same problem. The fans are spining and there's a light from the card. I tried the DVI ports and the HDMI Here's my build. I have it for 2 months and everything was working fine. Do you think it's the video card? • What does motherboard RAM slot colors mean?

  I always saw that the motherboard RAM slots are colored in pairs, but never know what does it means. I just put the 2 RAM in, and after a few tries it always worked. But after I tried to install a third one it always throws me a blue screen of death. Is there an order how should I install RAM to the borad? What does the colors mean? Does they indicate performance boost opportunity or are they just a guide for installation?

• How to clear contents of cell in Excel?

  I've been sent an Excel spreadsheet with a weird first row. Some of the cells say "Column1", "Column2", etc., but I can't delete their contents. If I select the cell and hit backspace, it goes blank, but when I press return, it goes right back to saying "Column1". I found another answer here that suggested this could be caused by "Cell validation", but the validation window says "Any value", and also "show alert" (and I'm not seeing an alert), so I don't think that's it. The first row is white text on a blue background, if that means anything. The spreadsheet was sent to me in XLSX format, but I tried resaving as XLS and opening that, and it seems to make no difference. This is with the "ribbon" version of Excel (they got rid of the Help menu so I don't know how to see what version number it is!). Thanks!

• When copying VM filesystem over netcat, dd copies double the disk size

  I'm attempting to copy the disk of a working headless virtualbox VM (VM1) on one server to a new VM (VM2) on a vCloud server. I don't have access to the host of VM2. The OS is Windows Server 2003 (32-bit) I start both VMs with a live Knoppix image. I run 'nc -l | dd of=/dev/sda bs=512' on VM2 I run 'dd if=/dev/sda bs=512 | nc ' on VM1 I previously did this with another windows VM and it worked fine. VM1 has a disk of size ~70GB (verified with fdisk); however, the amount of data dd reports read/written is ~139GB. Of course the target machine doesn't work properly. I get a Windows splash screen, then blue error screen with general 'system not working' information. I'm at a loss what could cause this. Any ideas?

• Updating windows xp hard drive controller from ubuntu live disk

  The problem: When booting, I get a blue screen shortly after the Windows XP logo splash screen. The error code is 7b, and the second hex number is 0xC0000034. Based on this link (item 7) it appears the driver should be updated. Oddly, I made no changes to the drivers recently. I suspect it was something in a windows update or the newest upgrade of my antivirus (eset). But I digress. The BSOD makes me unable to boot into Windows at all, so I can't update the driver from there. I've run various bios-level diagnostics (including full surface scan) and the hd looks good. I'm also able to boot to an old ubuntu disk and read files from the hd. The question: Based on the above, it appears that I need to update the Windows hard drive controller from the ubuntu live disk. How do I do that?

• How can I replace red in an image with a certain shade of gray?

  In this image I have to change red to grey: I know I can just set the saturation to zero, but then the result is a grey that is to dark. I could just change the brightness, but that would also change the left lower part of the picture: Is there an adjustment that only works on the red parts of the image? I can't use a selection, because the setting has to be applied to lots of images. EDIT I tried to use "replace adjustment tool", but that did not work well for the shdows and bright parts of the image, even with the largest fuzzines. I used blue as the replacement colour, to have a better impression of what it does.

• Failing RAM, or something else? [closed]

  I have a IBM Thinkpad T43, currently running Windows XP. Programs were crashing, XP was blue-screen-of-deathing, (more than usual) - it was basically unusable, but I couldn't get any informative error out of XP. I booted Ubuntu off a thumbdrive, which made it to the desktop, but as soon as I started to try to do anything, X segfaulted, along with several other services, followed quickly by kernel warnings and a kernel panic. I'm currently running Memtest86+ on this machine, which is spitting out numerous errors. (16k over 3 passes, and counting) The failing areas are numerous, and look something like this: 0001055da4 - XX.X MB, etc. The addresses that fail seem to cluster around 0-20 MB, 250MB, and, more rarely, 750MB, 1000MB, and 1200MB. However, a lot (but not all) of the failing addresses that I've seen end in XXXXXXX?da4 where the ? is a 1 or a 5. The machine has two sticks of RAM, one 512MB, one 1024 MB, the 512MB mapped to the lower addresses, the 1024 MB stick following. Is this indeed RAM failure, or should I consider other things before purchasing more RAM?

• How to embed word doc as background picture of an Access report using .EMF or equivalent ?

  My company's standard paper has logo, address and all the details in the right margin with a vertical blue line. I have that as a word template. I want to have the same thing as the background of my Invoices report. I managed to do that 5 years ago by saving to EMF format (vector format, prints out nicely) and putting the file as the background of the report. Now my company is moving, and I need to change the address on my invoices, but I can't find out how I did to convert the word doc to EMF. Any suggestion ? By EMF or another process, but I want to avoid BMP, which is huge and does not print nicely. Thanks !

• BSOD after PC has been running for a while

  I'm having a problem where my computer is getting a blue screen. I have noticed that the BSOD happens after the PC has been running for about 2 days. The BSOD's seem to be an error with atikmpag.sys with an error code of 0x00000116. The problem started about a month ago.It has happened all five times that I left my computer on that long in the past month. Because my computer is a pre-built one from Dell, and I had upgraded the graphics card (at least a year ago) to a more demanding one, I replaced the stock 360W power supply that came with it. I replaced it with a more powerful, 680W one, because it seemed like the problem could be related to a lack of power supply wattage, but it didn't affect the problem at all. • Multiple Graphics Cards on Fedora 15 (Gnome 3)

  I have the (delightful) misfortune of having 3 graphics cards. They are XFX Radeon 5750s. Each drives 2 monitors via dvi. I am having a really hard time getting these running on fedora 15 (gnome 3). So my setup is 3 columns of 2 monitors (the upper monitor is mounted upside down in each column to reduce the bezel between monitors). When the (graphical) login screen comes up all 6 have the blue stripey background that must be the default, but then when I login, things get interesting. In the xorg.conf below, you will see only 2 of the screens in the serverlayout while the other 4 are commented out. Logging in with only 2 of the screens active works well (and it even remembers that the top one is upside down, and should be considered above the lower, i am not sure where it stores this info, but i set it using the graphical "Displays" settings) However, as soon as I uncomment a third screen, or more, it gives me an error message when I login. It's one of those friendly, less helpful messages (Oh no! Something has gone wrong. A problem has occurred and the system can't recover. Please log out and try again). If i do not use an xorg.conf, then the "Displays" prefs pane shows only the two monitors on one of my graphics cards Thanks to anyone who can help me get going! • "Press Tab to search <site>" in Chrome not working

  The problem After partially entering a URL like meta.st, Chrome adds in the rest of the URL slected in blue and says "Press Tab to search Meta Stack Overflow". But on pressing, it just moves the cursor to the next item like in a normal text-field. Other info I'm on Windows 7 Home Basic. My Chrome version number is 22.0.1229.52 beta-m (beta channel). This was working before. What I've tried I've reported it in Chrome (by going to Options Tools Report an issue...). I've also tried deleting all my custom search engines (they might've been interfering) and also tried creating a new profile. I also googled, but to no avail. How do I fix this? Thanks.

• Can I run my OS from a DVD?

  I'm thinking of ways to get around the high cost of hard drives lately. I was thinking an optical jukebox would be interesting (though more expensive than just buying a hard drive), then thought I've heard of OS's run from DVD so why not boot from a Blue-ray drive. I think a smaller OS like a linux flavor would work. I'd like to know if there's a way I could burn Windows 7 to DVD for this use. Just curious. Anyone know if this is possible? Thanks, Mac

• Snow Leopard Hangs at Login Window

  I've had an issue for the past few months, but I rarely restart so it hasn't caused too much trouble. Basically, when I start up my Mac (iMac10,1 - 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, OS X 10.6.3) everything proceeds as usual until I reach the login window. The login window displays normally, but keyboard and mouse input seem to be ignored. This condition persists for around 5 minutes at which time everything goes back to normal. While the login window is frozen my second monitor appears entirely blue, the second monitor receives a background as soon as the login window becomes responsive. If I startup while holding SHIFT the problem still occurs, but the freeze is much shorter. Looking through my logs I see no activity during the time that the login window is frozen. I've attempted to repair disk permissions, and gone through every possible maintenance option in Cocktail.

  I am using a version of Ms Office of 2010, it was a beta version of public domain (I dont recall the name, but I believe it was called Blue version or something like that). I usually make my documents using the MS Word and then saving it like a pdf file using the function to publish as a pdf file within Word. The problem that I have is that some people are converting my documents into text, putting their name on it, and credited my work to them; so I would like to know if there is a way to: protect with a password the editing of my document protect it from converting into txt, with a password if its possible maybe but a digital signature in which it says my name as an author I want that the people who access it can only read it, and nothing more. I am using MS Word 2010 and Foxit Pdf (an old version), I usually do not use Adobe Acrobat. Thanks

• Drupal + GMap macro, map markers not displayed

  Hi. I've run into a strange problem in the GMap module for Drupal. When I display a map inside a node using a GMap macro, everything is displayed correctly (according to what I specify in the macro or leave at default), save for map markers. I'm trying to specify a map marker, but it refuses to be displayed. My macro is the following: [gmap zoom=17 |center=53.77420697757659,20.474138259887695 |markers=big blue::53.77420697757659,20.474138259887695] I was unable to find any help on Drupal forums, both the official one and one local to my country. Recently I just brought a bluetooth headset from other company, but I wonder if I can reuse the bluetooth adapter from Logitech to use the headset? I don't seems to find an option in my control panel that allows me to add the headset device.... Or the blue adapter that comes with Logitech is only able to connect to the logitech keyboard? In that case, if I buy a bluetooth adapter, will it possible to share 1 bluetooth adapter with two device? (1 to 2? not 1 to 1?)

  Hi, I'm testing a web application that runs on a hypervisor. The database server and the webserver are seperate vm's that run on the same hypervisor. We did some tests and the functions perform ok. I want you guys to look at a screenshot of a permon log of the sql 2005 server on the busiest moment. The sql server machine has no CPU limitations on the hypervisor resources and has 5 vcpu's and 5 GB RAM. Can someone help me to interpret this log. Thanks

• QuickTimeInstaller causing me buckets of issues

  Today I saw this message: After it installed and I rebooted, I was getting the Blue Screen of Death every few clicks. So...to resolve, I restored to a Restore Point when all was working, 2 days ago. Then, QuickTime reappeared and tried to reinstall itself. Is this iTunes related? or might it be related to Windows Live Messenger? Any suggestions on how to stop this auto installation? Update: Rolling back to a previous Restore Point temporarily fixed the issue but the patch was automatically applied a second time. Then, I made the horrible mistake of uninstalling iTunes and this caused my previous old restore point to be wiped away because of a limited amount of space that I alloted to the Windows Restore functionality. I fear that I will be faced with many issues ahead... Please help

  If Windows XP "welcome screen" is disabled (manually or by joining a domain) an ordinary window is used to log-in (like it was in Windows 2000). This window is styled with default Windows XP "Luna" theme (blue window title, etc). All theme customizations (including turning them off at all to use plain Win2000/98 window style) are normally applied after a user logs-in. How can I alter this? I'd like either to turn off visual styles at all or to apply "Zune" styling to BEFORE a user logs in (and it'd be good to use the same settings as default for new users created).

• When I plug an HDMI cable into my MacBook Pro with Retina Display, the resolution of the retina display changes

  I had an HDMI cable plugged in for a while that connected to a TV with no power. The retina display randomly flashed blue after a while and then changed to a different resolution (possibly 1080p). I unplugged the HDMI cable and nothing happened. So I restarted the computer to no avail. I was still having issues. So I fiddle with some settings after plugging in the HDMI cable again. Now, the retina display appears fine when no HDMI cable is plugged in, but when there is one plugged in, the resolution changes. I have mirroring turned off (which is what I want). The resolution of the retina display when an HDMI cable is plugged in is 3,360px x 2,100px (according to the size of a screenshot) and the external display is 1,600px is 900px. How can I fix the retina display to show with the correct resolution.

• Wrong version of php used be IIS

  Long ago I installed php5.2 using a installer on IIS. Recently I installed PHP Manager and upgraded to php5.3 simly by unzipping the downloaded file and then used the "Register new php version" in PHP Manager. I did this for the global scope for all sites. This works OK. Once in a blue moon errors are written to the php5.2 errorlog even though that verion is not used anymore. The errors are typical 5.3 specfic functions that are not supported in 5.2. How can it be? Can I safely uninstall php5.2 using the uninstaller (i think it added some stuff to the env paths)?
