  • Search Engine Optimization - The Best Way to Market Your Online Based Business

There are many things to consider, when you start your own online marketing campaign via search engine optimization services. If you're an entrepreneur, you won't have time for all this, meaning you would need to hire someone to do all the work related to the optimization and the functioning of the website. The lucky fact is that most of the companies, which offer search engine optimization (SEO) services, also provide web design, content writing, web development, social bookmarking, and other related services.

  • Creating a steady rhythm for music-based game in XNA

    - by A-Type
I'm looking to develop a game for Windows Phone to explore an idea I had which involves the user building notes into a sequencer while playing a puzzle game. The issue I'm running into is that, while my implementation is very close to being on-beat, there is the occasional pause between beats which makes the whole thing sound sloppy. I'm just not sure how to get around this inside XNA's infrastructure. Currently I'm running this code in the Update method of my GameBoard: public void Update(GameTime gameTime) { onBeat = IsOnBeat(gameTime); [...] if (onBeat) BeatUpdate(); } private bool IsOnBeat(GameTime gameTime) { beatTime += gameTime.ElapsedGameTime.TotalSeconds; if (Math.Abs(beatTime - beatLength) < 0.0166666) { beatTime -= beatLength; return true; } return false; } private void BeatUpdate() { cursor.BeatUpdate(); board.CursorPass((int)cursor.CursorPosition % Board.GRID_WIDTH); } Update checks to see if the time is on beat, and if it is, it calls the BeatUpdate method which moves the cursor over the board (sequencer). The cursor reports its X position to the board, which then plays any notes which are in that position on the sequencer. Notes are SoundEffectInstances, preloaded and ready to play. Oh, and TargetElapsedTime is set to 166666, or 60FPS target. Obviously totaling up the time and then subtracting isn't the most accurate way to go but I can't figure out a way to work within XNA's system in order to overcome this issue. This current system is just horribly unstable. Beats lag and fire too early and it's obvious. I thought about perhaps some sort of threaded solution but I'm not familiar enough with multithreading to figure out how that would work. Any ideas?

  • Question about creating a sprite based 2-D Side Scroller with scaling/zooming

    - by Arthur
I'm just wondering if anyone can offer any advice on how best to go about creating a 2-D game with zooming/scaling features akin to the early Samurai Showdown games. In this case it would be a side scroller a la Metal Slug, the zooming would come in as more enemy sprites entered the screen, or when facing a large sized boss. A feature that would be both cosmetic as well as functional to the game. I've done some reading and noticed a few suggestions that included drawing different sized sprites, a standard size and zoomed out size. Any thoughts? Thanks for your time.

  • Visual View for Schema Based Editor

    - by Geertjan
Starting from yesterday's blog entry, make the following change in the DataObject's constructor: registerEditor("text/x-sample+xml", true); I.e., the MultiDataObject.registerEditor method turns the editor into a multiview component. Now, again, within the DataObject, add the following, to register a source editor in the multiview component: @MultiViewElement.Registration(         displayName = "#LBL_Sample_Source",         mimeType = "text/x-sample+xml",         persistenceType = TopComponent.PERSISTENCE_NEVER,         preferredID = "ShipOrderSourceView",         position = 1000) @NbBundle.Messages({     "LBL_Sample_Source=Source" }) public static MultiViewElement createEditor(Lookup lkp){     return new MultiViewEditorElement(lkp); } Result: Next, let's create a visual editor in the multiview component. This could be within the same module as the above or within a completely separate module. That makes it possible for external contributors to provide modules with new editors in an existing multiview component: @MultiViewElement.Registration(displayName = "#LBL_Sample_Visual", mimeType = "text/x-sample+xml", persistenceType = TopComponent.PERSISTENCE_NEVER, preferredID = "VisualEditorComponent", position = 500) @NbBundle.Messages({ "LBL_Sample_Visual=Visual" }) public class VisualEditorComponent extends JPanel implements MultiViewElement {     public VisualEditorComponent() {         initComponents();     }     @Override     public String getName() {         return "VisualEditorComponent";     }     @Override     public JComponent getVisualRepresentation() {         return this;     }     @Override     public JComponent getToolbarRepresentation() {         return new JToolBar();     }     @Override     public Action[] getActions() {         return new Action[0];     }     @Override     public Lookup getLookup() {         return Lookup.EMPTY;     }     @Override     public void componentOpened() {     }     @Override     public void componentClosed() {     }     @Override     public void componentShowing() {     }     @Override     public void componentHidden() {     }     @Override     public void componentActivated() {     }     @Override     public void componentDeactivated() {     }     @Override     public UndoRedo getUndoRedo() {         return UndoRedo.NONE;     }     @Override     public void setMultiViewCallback(MultiViewElementCallback callback) {     }     @Override     public CloseOperationState canCloseElement() {         return CloseOperationState.STATE_OK;     } } Result: Next, the DataObject is automatically returned from the Lookup of DataObject. Therefore, you can go back to your visual editor, add a LookupListener, listen for DataObjects, parse the underlying XML file, and display values in GUI components within the visual editor.

  • Calculate initial velocity of a 3d vector-based projectile

    - by Frotty
Okay, so I got a Projectile with 2 Vectors, position and velocity. I now want to calculate the initial velocity for it in order to reach a specific point on the map. Or actually, how high has the start z-velocity to be (because x and y are probably defined by a speed variable) in order for the projectile to hit the marked position. The projectile is influenced by a constant gravity vector. All calculations are done 32 times per second. I want this, because I don't want to use a parabola function, so the projectile can still be influenced by other sources, simply adding some velocity. I didn't really find anything referring to that topic and would be glad for every helping answer, Thanks.

  • Unit turning in navmesh-based pathfinding

    - by Haddayn
I'm working on an RTS game, and I'm using navmeshes for unit pathfinding. I do know how to find a general path within a navmesh, but how do you determine if the unit have enough space to turn? I have units of different shapes (mostly rectangles with different dimensions), and with different turn radii. Additionally some of units can turn in place, and some can move in reverse. So, how to find a path which unit can follow, considering that it can not rotate easily?

  • Entity Framework 4 - Generating Entities based on Views

    - by geekrutherford
Just a quick post regarding a common issue and fix... When attempting to add a view as an entity to your model the EF generator may complain that it is unable to find or infer a primary key on your view. As a result, it will not add it to the model. The quick fix is to add the following to which ever column you wish to be the primary key within your view: ISNLL(TableA.ColumnA, -999) myPrimaryKeyColumnName Adding this will allow the EF generator to infer the primary key and add the view as an entity to your model.

  • How to Stop Browser from rejecting my downloads

    - by melki0795
I have a portfolio site where I am trying to host some of my work, so people can download my work. Some of these files include exe executables, and some are jar executables, which are run through batch. When a user tries to download my apps, it says that the file is not commonly downloaded and may be harmful, and therefore blocks the download. If I zip the folders, it still does the same thing. Any format i choose, still blocks the downloads. How can I stop chrome from doing this. Is there a way I can verify my files so they will be considered as trusted? Thanks in advance!

  • Finding .desktop files based on their titles?

    - by stwissel
That's part 2 of a question asked earlier (to be able to give credit to the answers individually). When I type into the Dash applications show up with their title (also when hovering over the launcher), how can I find the associated desktop file. When I look into the usual suspect locations (/usr/share/applications and ~/.local/share/applications) with Nautilus I see the titles, but not the file names (not even in properties which sucks). When I look from the command line I see the file names but not the titles (a switch would be nice). How can I get a listing (a custom column?) that shows them next to each other?

  • Dynamically change page content based on URL parameter?

    - by volume one
The title of my question seems simple but here is an example of what I want to do: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/infant-jaundice/DS00107 What happens on that page is whenever you click on a link to go a section (e.g. "Symptoms") in the article on "Infant Jaundice", it provides a URL parameter like this: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/infant-jaundice/DS00107/DSECTION=symptoms As the DESCTION parameter changes, you get different content on the same page DS00107. The content changes as well as <meta keywords>. Can someone please tell me how this is achieved? I was thinking it was an if/else situation programmed into the page itself to display different properties depending on the URL parameter. Any help or suggestions are very much appreciated and my thanks to you for reading my question.

  • Updates to Silverlight Code Browser

A couple of bits of news. I did a number of updates to the HackingSilverlightCodeBrowser here:http://www.hackingsilverlight.net/HackingSilverlightCodeBrowser.html including things like MEF and IsolatedStorage. As to the community edition of the book, I'm still trying to get some contributors to finish. I've been slammed with 60 hour weeks so chapter 2 and 4 and appendix a still need edits. maybe a weeks worth of work pending time which tends to be limited in my life. :)...Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? We already have over 80 articles in several categories including Silverlight. Take a look: here.
