Can anyone help with the following code? I'm trying to get data from the database colum to the datagridview... How to reference an embedded JCA resource adapater

For our current J2EE project based on JBoss, we need to interface with a remote system using message driven beans and a JCA resource adapter provided as a RAR file by a third party. I would like to package and deploy the entire project as an EAR file to our JBoss server. Most notably, the RAR file should be embedded within the EAR file and not be deployed globally. All of this is working fine so far, but I'm not particularly happy with the way the RAR file is referenced. The jboss.xml packaged with the MDB for example, currently looks like this: <jboss> <enterprise-beans> <message-driven> <ejb-name>testBean1</ejb-name> <resource-adapter-name>test1.ear#thirdparty-1.0.rar</resource-adapter-name> </message-driven> </enterprise-beans> </jboss> While this is generally working fine, it will break when the EAR file is renamed to "test2.ear". Is there a way to reference the embedded RAR file without hard-coding the containing archive's name?

Basic question on retain/release semantics from Apple's reference library

I have done Objective-C way back when, and have recently (i.e. just now) read the documentation on Apple's site regarding the use of retain and release. However, there is a bit of code in their Creating an iPhone Application page that has me a bit confused: - (void)setUpPlacardView { // Create the placard view -- it calculates its own frame based on its image. PlacardView *aPlacardView = [[PlacardView alloc] init]; self.placardView = aPlacardView; [aPlacardView release]; // What effect does this have on self.placardView?! placardView.center = self.center; [self addSubview:placardView]; } Not seeing the entire class, it seems that self.placardView is also a PlacardView * and the assignment of it to aPlacardView doesn't seem to indicate it will retain a reference to it. So, it appears to me that the line I've commented ([aPlacardView release];) could result in aPlacardView having a retain count of 0 and thus being deallocated. Since self.placardView points to it, wouldn't that now point at deallocated memory and cause a problem?

Entity Framework: Auto-updating foreign key when setting a new object reference

Hi, I am porting an existing application from Linq to SQL to Entity Framework 4 (default code generation). One difference I noticed between the two is that a foreign key property are not updated when resetting the object reference. Now I need to decide how to deal with this. For example supposing you have two entity types, Company and Employee. One Company has many Employees. In Linq To SQL, setting the company also sets the company id: var company=new Company(ID=1); var employee=new Employee(); Debug.Assert(employee.CompanyID==0); employee.Company=company; Debug.Assert(employee.CompanyID==1); //Works fine! In Entity Framework (and without using any code template customization) this does not work: var company=new Company(ID=1); var employee=new Employee(); Debug.Assert(employee.CompanyID==0); employee.Company=company; Debug.Assert(employee.CompanyID==1); //Throws, since CompanyID was not updated! How can I make EF behave the same way as LinqToSQL? I had a look at the default code generation T4 template, but I could not figure out how to make the necessary changes.

Delete only reference to child object

I'm running in to a bit of a problem where any attempt to delete just the reference to a child also deletes the child record. My schema looks like this Person Organisation OrganisationContacts : Person OrgId PersonId Role When removing an Organisation i want to only delete the record in OrgnaisationContacts, but not touch the Person record. My Mapping looks like this Code: public OrganisationMap() { Table("Organsations"); .... HasMany<OrganisationContact>(x => x.Contacts) .Table("OrganisationContacts ") .KeyColumn("OrgId") .Not.Inverse() .Cascade.AllDeleteOrphan(); } public class OrganisationContactMap : SubclassMap<OrganisationContact> { public OrganisationContactMap() { Table("OrganisationContacts"); Map(x => x.Role, "PersonRole"); Map(x => x.IsPrimary); } } At the moment just removing a contact from the IList either doesn't reflect in the database at all, or it issues two delete statements DELETE FROM OrganisationContact & DELETE FROM Person, or tries to set PersonId to null in the OrganisationContacts table. All of which are not desirable. Any help would be great appreciated.

System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. When a user essentially presses a button it calls a method that should hide a specific graphic but not the graphic they touched. NoClassDefFoundError when trying to reference external jar files

I have some 3rd party jar files that I want to reference in my tomcat web application. I added this line to catalina.properties: shared.loader=/home/ollie/dev/java/googleapi_samples/gdata/java/lib/*.jar but I'm still getting this error: org.apache.jasper.JasperException: javax.servlet.ServletException: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com/google/gdata/util/ServiceException org.apache.jasper.servlet.JspServletWrapper.handleJspException(JspServletWrapper.java:491) org.apache.jasper.servlet.JspServletWrapper.service(JspServletWrapper.java:401) org.apache.jasper.servlet.JspServlet.serviceJspFile(JspServlet.java:313) org.apache.jasper.servlet.JspServlet.service(JspServlet.java:260) javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet.service(HttpServlet.java:717) I verified that the com.google.gdata.util.ServiceException is in the gdata-core-1.0.jar file which is in the directory: /home/ollie/dev/java/googleapi_samples/gdata/java/lib I did bounce tomcat after I modified catalina.properties. Update 1: I tried copying the gdata-core-1.0.jar file into /var/lib/tomcat6/webapp/examples/WEB-INF/lib as a test but that didn't fix the problem either. Update 2: It actually does work when I copy the jar file directly into the WEB-INF/lib directory. There was a permissions issue that I had to resolve. But it's still not working when I use the shared.loader setting. I reconfirmed that the path is correct.

Silverlight logging out causes "Object reference not set to an instance"

I am using the Silverlight 4 Business Application Template. Object reference not set to an instance of an object. I assume that because I've logged out, User.UserLoginID is now null and is causing the exception. So... anybody know a good way for me to solve this? I don't really want to set the QueryParameter programmatically.

I use like this: Dim s As New Server s.Name = "Test" s.LoadTables() The problem is in the LoadTables in the Server class. When it hits Databases.Add(db) it gives me a NullReference error (Object reference not set). I don't understand how it is getting that, all the objects are set. Any ideas? Thanks.

Object Reference with TimeSpan/DateTime

When creating an appointment i want to send an email out to the patient with details like Time, Date etc. I know the email service i have created works (i have tested it by hardcoding strings into the method with the problem. The Problem is that i am getting Object reference issues with converting the Time and Date to a string. It does create the appointment data in the database correctly (time and date). User_Doctor thisDoc = user_DoctorComboBox.SelectedItem as User_Doctor; User_Patient thisPatient = appointment_Patient_autoComplete.SelectedItem as User_Patient; Appointment App = AppointmentSlots.SelectedItem as Appointment; DateTime date = (DateTime)datePickerAppointment.SelectedDate; TimeSpan timeslot = App.Time; //For Emailing Patients string fullname = thisPatient.PatientName + " " + thisPatient.PatientSurname; string mestime = timeslot.ToString("HH:mm"); string mesdate = date.ToString("MM/dd/yyyy"); string email = thisPatient.aspnet_Users.aspnet_Membership.LoweredEmail; EmailServiceClient em = new EmailServiceClient(); em.createMessageAsync(email, "Upcomming Appointment", fullname, mestime, mesdate, thisDoc.aspnet_Users.UserName, true); The problem occures with the strings mestime and mesdate, as well as with getting the email of the user from the database (again this exists in the db, as a nvar)

Telerik Object reference not set to an instance of an object

Hi, I have a main form which contains multiple worker threads. These threads raise events which update Telerik controls on the main form. The event handlers contain code which check if InvokeRequired and BeginInvoke where required. At random interval I am receiving the following exception, and have no idea on how where to find this? Losing reference to $_post variable?

In the code below, the echo at the top returns true, but the echo at the bottom returns nothing. ok reclarification I am adding a new address and I know the structure as AddressID = PK and all other entities are non nullable. What is the best way get and hold property reference by name in c#

I want to know if there is a better way (than what I'm currently doing) to obtain and hold a reference to a property in another object using only the object and property string names. Particularly, is there a better way to do this with the new dynamic functionality of .Net 4.0? Here is what I have right now. I have a "PropertyReference<T>" object that takes an object name and property name in the constructor. An Initialize() method uses reflection to find the object and property and stores the property Getter as an Action<T> and the property Setter as an Func<T>. When I want to actually call the property I do something like this: int x = _propertyReference.Get(); or _propertyReference.Set(2); Here is my PropertyReference<T> code.
