  Being a C++ programmer with 7-8 years of experience, I wanted to know the market trends. When I searched a little bit I found more jobs with keyword C# than C++ or Java. I am just wondering if it is a good idea to learn C# or Java from a career perspective. Also, I read somewhere about Salesforce/apex. It was mentioned that this is something in vogue. So my question is which technology I should go for C#/Java/Salesforce(Apex) from career perspective? Thanks

• Reset Unity and Gnome to default values

  Apparently I've messed up a lot with my Unity and Gnome 3 settings and now my system looks ugly, and even if I made changes (using gnome-tweak-tool for example) to my configuration nothing seems to work. Can you guys tell me how to delete all the Unity and Gnome related settings (like also compiz and all other similar ones) and restart with the settings of an installation from scratch?? I'd really appreciate your help, thanks a lot guys!

  I got a warning message: jvm uses the client vm, make sure to run java with the server vm for best performance by adding -server to the command line In fact, when i run java -version i get: OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea7 2.3.2) (7u7-2.3.2a-0ubuntu0.12.04.1) OpenJDK Client VM (build 23.2-b09, mixed mode, sharing) How does one go about and change OpenJDK's defaults to always start under the server VM?

  There are some programming languages for which exist their own package management systems: CTAN for TeX CPAN for Perl Pip & Eggs for Python Maven for Java cabal for Haskell Gems for Ruby Is there any other languages with such systems? What about C and C++? (that's the main question!) Why there are no such systems for them? And isn't creating packages for yum, apt-get or other general package management systems better? UPD: And what about unification? Have someone tried to unify that "the zoo"? If yes, looks like that project didn't succeed.

  I have 3 sites and a default/test site using mono's test page. I created aFirst, c, d, e, zLast. zLast has rewrite rules that should be evaluated last. The ip address of my server and csite.ddomain.net ALWAYS load the same site. Either monos test page or the csite. It flips every time i restart apache. Why isnt the server ip address always loading the default page (mono test page) and why isnt csite.ddomain.net always loading the site i want!?! • Restore Default Appearance in Ubuntu 12.04

  I'd like the original colour scheme, icon style of 12.04. I somehow lost the Ambiance theme (possible error or upgrade error). I re-installed 'light-themes' from the terminal and got it back. But the panel on the top that shows the options of sound, battery and wi-fi has changed and I can-not get the original setting back. In the windows, the close, minimize tools have shifted to the right instead of the original left side. I had installed MyUnity and Ubuntu Tweak but deleted them. As such, I want the original setting back. Kindly help me with the commands. I have searched for solutions; there are multiple and I need to be sure if I should follow the same. Kindly bear before marking duplicate. Discoveries *. [The appearance is gray and boxy as outlined here.] Not sure same problem. *. [Similar 'gray and boxy' article here] *. Desktop forgets theme.] *. I have also tried unity --reset command. It never completes. I gave it 20 minutes.

Great to see Fusion help customizations included in the post, as well as software, and it also includes a nice heads up on what's coming to enable customers to make changes to text themselves in Release 8 of Oracle's Cloud Applications. I am proud to say that I logged the enhancements for what's coming in Release 8  to come to life and also wrote a spec for its requirements based on the customer research done internationally through the Oracle Usability Advisory Board).   hi, here's my problem. When I log in I'm beeing asked for a password connecting to the internet which is strange because I'm the only user and the admin. I have auto log in and it never asks for passwords, (except when i do administrative tasks.) I have looked in the menu (System -- preferences, but i can't find any topic that say's passwords or similar. the only place where I have found a way to change my password is my user ((System -- preferences -- user and groups). I did try to take screenshots but nothing happened, which also is strange. I'm running ubuntu 10.04 LTS Desktop on my Asus 1201n (12").

What I want to be able to do is: I want to have any changes or additions automatically shown in another (per-selected) color. Without having to a)high lite a word or phrase to be changed or added and then b)going to the toolbar and clicking on the font color In other words I want the original color of the text to remain as it is and any additions or changes to be visible in another color without having to use the toolbar. • Activate swap by default

  I installed Ubuntu 11.04 Natty and I set a partition for swap about 900 MB. Afterthat, I installed Kubuntu 12.10 Quantal, repartitioned my hard disk so I had 2048 MB swap (replaced 900 MB swap partition). I ran Kubuntu, and it's ok. But after I ran Ubuntu 11.04 Natty, It didn't use that swap. But I can activate it with Gparted. Some additional information. When I installed Kubuntu Quantal. I make 256 MB partition (ext4 mount point in /boot) which replaced previous 256 MB partition (ext4 mount point in /boot) that I created when I installed Natty. Something wrong with my configuration?.

I am not clear as what software can be used for this on Linux or Windows. I have users which use Windows and Linux both. I have used video editing on Mac using Final Cut Pro but the video on the above link is not some thing which can be achieved with FCP.(Or may be I am not aware) I am looking solution for 1) Linux users 2) Windows users In case of Linux it is Ubuntu for some users and Fedora for some others. I am a Linux guy so I am specifically posting this question in terms of Ubuntu but I also need suggestions for Windows type of users.I have no clue of such video animations at all.

  I am trying to watch some videos stored on my desktop computer on the Xbox, but they are in a format that the Xbox cannot decode, so I have to stream them through Windows Media Center. • Programming language for simple program?

  I am wondering about which programming languages people see fit to create a program idea that I had. I am looking to create a fairly simple program whose main functions are adding to, managing, and searching through a database of people, all through a polished GUI. It will be for use in the business world, so I think Windows would be the priority, but Mac and Linux support wouldn't be bad. Also, eventually I would like to add the ability for an instance of one program on a computer to interact with other instances on the same network, mainly through the sharing of a database. Most of my experience is in Java, but I don't particularly like the appearance of Java GUIs, so I'm looking for an alternative. I noticed that a lot of people have suggested C++ or C# in similar posts, so what are some of the advantages/disadvantages of one or both if that is your suggestion. Thanks for any help in advance.

  Working with a variety of clients on EA initiatives one begins to realize that not everyone is a fan of EA. Specifically, they are not a fan of the "a-word". Some organizations have abused this term with creating and assigning the title to just about anyone who demonstrates above average prowess with a particular technology. Other organizations will assign the title to those managers left with no staff after a reorg. Some companies, unfortunately, have simply had a bad go of it with regard to EA...or any "A" for that matter. What we call "EA" is almost irrelevant. But what is not negotiable for those to succeed in business is to manage change. That is what EA is all about. I recall sitting in Zachman training led by himself. He posits the only organizations that don't need EA (or whatever you want to call it) are those that are not changing. My experience suggests those orgs that aren't changing aren't growing. And if you aren't growing, you're dying. Any EA program will not succeed unless there is a desire to change. No desire to change suggests the EA/Advisor/Change Agent should just walk the other way.

• IIS 6 Denies access to the default document

  I've got Windows Server 2k3 with IIS6 hosting a couple ASP.NET MVC 2 applications (.NET 4), all in the Default Web Site. Most of them simply use Integrated authentication, but a couple use forms as well. All the applications work properly and are correctly accessible. The problem I'm trying to resolve is access to the default document. It is currently specified as index.htm. Both index.htm and the Default Web Site are configured to allow anonymous access (with none of the authenticated acces boxes checked). However, access is denied to the file. Accessing via server.domain.tld/ and server.domain.tld/index.htm both yield 401 errors. However, server.domain.tld/default.htm (file does not exist) properly returns a 404. If I alter the file security on index.htm to allow integrated authentication, then requesting /index.htm directly works properly for users with domain accounts, but anonymous users get a login prompt/401. How can I configure IIS to allow all users to view index.htm via server.domain.tld/?

• Why do programming language (open) standards cost money?

  Isn't it counter-productive to ask for 384 Swiss franks for C11 or 352 Swiss franks for C++11, if the aim is to make the standards widely adopted? Please note, I'm not ranting at all, and I'm not against paying; I would like to understand the rationale behind setting the prices as such, especially knowing that ISO is network of national standard institutes (i.e. funded by governments). And I also doubt that these prices would generate enough income to fund an organization like that, so there must be another reason.

• Changing the Default Install Location of an MSI

  A few months ago, I had to tweak an MSI installer.  It was installing into a specific directory (named the same as the application) underneath Program Files.  Since the location of Program Files can change from machine to machine, the MSI has a special token you can use for Program Files (as well as for the application name).  So the current value for “DefaultLocation” of the Application Folder was: [ProgramFilesFolder]\[ProductName] During installation, these tokens would be replaced by the actual location based on the current machine. I needed to change this to a specific folder underneath the users My Documents directory.  I poked around the help file and I could not find where these special tokens (like “[ProgramFilesFolder]”) were defined.  Obviously, there must be some specific set of values that are available and I’m sure My Documents is one of them. I finally found them documented so I’m posting the link here.  Hopefully, it will help someone else out.  Not sure where I found this link… System Folder Properties For me, it was as easy as changing the DefaultLocation to: [PersonalFolder]\MyToolName\Application Technorati Tags: .NET,MSI

Actually, I have made the desktop recording and I have some shorts videos in mp4 format to work with it. Thats what I need: Cut some fragments of the videos Join the selected portions into a big video Make some transicions in the cutting points (A simple fade will do the job) Put some text in the bottom of the videos during a few seconds making explanations Adding fragments of sound from a mp3/wav record Thats all... • Learning the nuances of a language (C++)

  So I'm a recent college graduate, and I really enjoy working in C++; I worked with it a lot in school, and would like to pursue a career writing in C or C++. The problem I'm having is that I'm trying to learn the nuances of C++. I'm not talking about the basics, or even advanced concepts like templates, namespaces, etc...I'm talking about the real nitty-gritty stuff like undefined behavior and stuff like that. When I'm interviewing, and they put a bizarre piece of C++ code in front of me, and ask me what the output will be, I want to be able to nail those questions. Obviously experience is a great way to learn, but when I write code for practice, I [obviously] know what it does. Reading open-source projects have been good practice, but I find that there tends to be an enormous learning curve just understanding the organization of the code (because the projects tend to be large). So basically what I'm asking is, what should I do now? Any tips are greatly appreciated!
