  • What program can I use to make animated videos with Mac?

    I've seen a lot of these cool info-diagram style voice-over videos like this one for Google Plus One: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OAyUNI3_V2c&feature=player_embedded What types of tools are required to make something like that? Related to that, what programs are good for creating and editing screen casts on Mac? I am only familiar with Camtasia, maybe snapxpro (and Jing, which I think may only be for PC). I would mostly like to create a video like the one above, but if I could add in a few seconds of a screen-cast that would be nice.

The book that I use for Java was published in the year 2011. In 2012, Java8 will be released followed by Java9 in the year 2013. The questions are: How do I keep myself updated about developments in Java without having to buy a tome for Java8 and/or Java9 Is a book published in 2008 an outdated book for studying JSP and Servelets?   • Best/ most efficient way to learn a programming language as a beginner [closed]

    I am a student and have obtained a one year placement at a business that develops an e-commerce system using C#, HTML, WPF, javascript, ASP and more. Although I do have a little bit of knowledge, I find myself being assigned a lot of tasks that are beyond me and even when I ask for help, the response I get is often cryptic to me. I stare at as much code as possible to just try and "throw myself into it" but I often just get lost in the code I like to consider myself a fast learner and I am damn determined to be a good programmer. I would just like to ask if there are some tips for me to catch up as quick as possible? I don't want to be a nuisance and sit here and ask for help 24/7. I just want to crack on!

  • Creating an Interface To a Language's Standard Library?

    In the process of learning test-driven development, I've been introduced to dependency injection and the use of interfaces, and have started using these concepts in my own PHP code in order to make it more testable. There have been times when I've needed to test code that was doing things like calling the PHP time() function. In order to make these tests predictable, it seemed logical to create an interface to the standard PHP functions I use so that I can mock them out in my tests. Is this good software design? What are the pros and cons of doing this? I've found myself groaning at how quickly my PHP interface can stick its fingers into everything I do. Is there a better way to make code that relies on PHP-accessed state and functions more testable?

  • SSH refusing connection after changing default port

    currently I'm handling 2 server (A and B). In server A I installed Ubuntu 12.10. I changed the SSH port into 1198 and it works fine. In server B it has been installed with Ubuntu 11.04. I tried to change the port number into 1198 as well but it refused the connection when I tried to connect again using Putty. I change the SSH configuration on /etc/ssh/sshd_config and I did restart the SSH using sudo service ssh restart. I was thinking its because of firewall allowed port but the firewall shows inactive when I run sudo ufw status. Any idea why this can happened?

    It just isn't there on the base install of a virtual host I am evaluating from an ISP. Not in path: root@vpstest2:~# tasksel -bash: tasksel: command not found Config files not there: root@vpstest2:~# ls /usr/share/tas* ls: cannot access /usr/share/tas*: No such file or directory It's just .... gone! root@vpstest2:~# whereis tasksel tasksel: I'm a little concerned that the install is broken. Running locate spews this out: locate: can not stat () `/var/lib/mlocate/mlocate.db': No such file or directory

  • How can i compare Audio, what programming language should i use

    I have 2 audio files that are from almost the same source. But at some points there shifted a bit. Also the codecs does not match. I would like to make a program that takes a sample 2 - 4 seconds. And looks for it in the other file. (Most of the time it's not shifted more than 30 seconds). Than take the time and store it, Go ahead for a few seconds take a sample and find it again. This way i want to create a file where i can see on what points the file is shifted. For people who are more interested in what i want. I have a audio/video file speech and subtitles. But i have same speech from different sources with differs a bit in time. And i like to make a program that can correct the subtitle time for me. Enough about the problem I looked on the Internet for ways to compare audio files. Based on what i read comparing 2 audio files isn't that easy as i had hoped. Some talk about algorithms http://www.perlmonks.org/?node_id=169641 Some audio-library's portaudio.com aubio.org sourceforge.net/projects/ccaudio/ ambiera.com/irrklang/ The biggest problem i have is that i can't find something i can generate from the audio that i can use to compare with.     I'd like to use a programming model for custom graphics and precision placement, and an interactive visual mode for large scale layout and less precise placements. I've used tools (PostScript, various vector drawing programs) that do one of these modes well, but leave me pining for the other model. Which tools should I be investigating? I'm currently on OS X. Examples: Creating diagrams with precise spacing, sets of cards, either likely drawing from some sort of data.

  • Using git (or any version control) regarding migration from one language to another [on hold]

    I'm polishing an old project that i released some years ago, and the main purpose on that, is to arrange some folder structures and port the entire code from actionscript to haxe. All the game features, assets and design will remain the same. I have some doubts regarding versioning the project in this circumstance. Assuming that the only thing that will be drastically changed is the code migration, is it correct maintaining the new project changes on the same repository ? I was thinking in tagging it something like V1.1 or Branch the entire project. But i'm afraid that i'm gonna deviate from the versioning patterns. How can i use this version control issue in the best practice way ? Thanks.

    As a man interested in programming, I must ask if there is a cataloged hierarchy of languages. I'd like to learn to actually understand what's happening- that is to say, I don't want to use a compiler until I understand what a compiler does and how to make my own. I really do want to start from total scratch. I'm told that means "machine code"? I don't know. What I do know is that "C++" is not the start. I'm not interested in learning that until I can actually break software down to its very base and see how the pieces go together.

  • What editor/viewer to use to inspect large text based files?

    Are there any text editors/viewers (preferably on windows but other platforms are also ok) that can handle files of 500 MB or more? The editors I checked so far (Notepad++, Notepad, Eclipse) all choked on files of that size. Edit: Many thanks for the great suggestions. I tried gvim as it was the top voted and was available on Windows. I opened the file in a reasonable time. After that scrolling and searching was very smooth as long as syntax highlighting was turned off. From the other editors mentioned TextPad and EmEditor both claim to be able to handle large files very well. EmEditor seems to be built exactly for editing large files. I'll probably try both and report back.

  • Translation of default folder names in Windows

    Windows (all versions) folders have their standard names such as Users, Documents, Local Settings etc that are unfortunately translated in other language versions, and thus instead of the names that are in the path to the folder they appear in the file explorer under quite different names. For example, instead Pictures I get "Moje obrazy" (translation into Polish language), and yet in the path it is still "pictures". This is very confusing and I would like to turn this automatic translation off, but can't find how.

  • Editing remotely the PHP files on a Centos server

    I have a intranet web server (Centos 6, Apache, PHP) to which I would like to give access to a developer. He will connect by remote desktop from Windows 7 to Ubuntu 12.4 and from here by SSH to /var/www/html folder where it has to create and edit the files. This solution was chosen because: - I could not make a remote desktop connection from Windows to Centos - The web developer need some editor for PHP files and is not allowed to install software on Windows 7 machine - it is more a test solution ( we are all learning to use Linux). When the developer is connected from Ubuntu to Centos by SSH (SFTP) he could save the changes only if on Centos the account used to connect has ownership to that folder. Can you please tell how can I give all required rights. I tried different solutions found on Internet but without to much success. Are there other way to connect to Centos server?

  • Manually Editing iptables

    I'm using CentOS. What I'm wondering is, what happens if I manually edit /etc/sysconfig/iptables and save it? Is that the definitive source? When I type iptables -L I get something that doesn't match the contents of that file. Is there a way I can just edit the chains directly without adding/removing rules one at a time? i.e. open VIM and get everything set up the way I want it and then save. Along those lines, when I do something like iptables -A INPUT , where does that go in the immediate sense? Is it not applied until I do an iptables-save? I feel like I'm just missing an a-ha moment here and I can't seem to find the answer in a search.
