  • what is a good way to do countif in python

    I want to count how many members of an iterable meet a given condition. I'd like to do it in a way that is clear and simple and preferably reasonably optimal. My current best ideas are: sum(meets_condition(x) for x in my_list) and len([x for x in my_list if meets_condition(x)]) The first one being iterator based is presumably faster for big lists. And it's the same form as you'd use for testing any and all. However it depends on the fact that int(True) == 1, which is somewhat ugly. The second one seems easier to read to me, but it is different from the any and all forms. Does anyone have any better suggestions? is there a library function somewhere that I am missing?

  • Alert user when they hit the browser back button - with good reson

    I know this borders on the taboo here, and please don't reply with "you should never do this etc" I have a very long form in a wizard, some users are too used to using the browsers back and forward buttons that they use those instead of the "Back" and "Next" buttons on the form wizard. If they hit the browsers back button they lose all of their form data which is a pain in the ass, since form is so long. Is it possible to display an alert that when will have a "take me out of here" and a "cancel" button so if they hit cancel it will cancel the function of the back button? Thanks!

  • Good ACL implementation in Java

    Hi All. I'm implementing a web based document management system and I'd like to implement ACLs in my system. My formal requirements are hierarchal permissions (documents inherit permissions from their folders) user groups (users can dynamically create groups and associate users with groups). Such groups can have permissions on objects in the system. My code will query permission on objects in two cases: 1. Manipulating a single document 2. Listing all documents where a manipulation is possible The latter requirement seems the achilles heel for Spring Security ACLs (their method seems likely to incur multiple DB hits for each document I manage) Anyone know of another ACL implementation?     So now I am the manager. One of the things I always promised myself I would do is have the other developers focus on learning new stuff. In fact I even want to force them to read a couple books that really helped me learn to program. However now I am also accountable for the product getting finished. I have this vision of everyone reading books instead of working and me getting fired. What is the best way to work learning into the developers schedules, especially for the ones that just don't care to learn. How much time should be spent on learning in a work week?

  • Looking for a few good C# interview problems.

    I do not want to ask candidates questions, but rather give them several problems to resolve. The reason for this is that I've seen people be excellent with theory, but when confronted by a real world c# issue, just couldn't hack it. These c# problems should be simple enough that it won't take more than 5-20 minutes to resolve, yet complicated enough that I'd be able to weed out candidates that can't code. Right now, I typically ask the applications to reverse a string and remove duplicates from a List. This alone weeds out a large number of people. Any other examples I could use?

  • Changing UITableViewCell height on a grouped cell doesn't look good

    I have a UITableView with 3 sections. In the first section I have 2 grouped cells. I am modifying the first cell to be larger than the second. Though the first cell resizes, it seems to mess up the cell below it.   • What's a good way to integrate FB and Twitter into my commenting system (PHP)

    Hi Guys, There are so many options out there for integration. At the moment I have comments that are posted on my articles, where a user types in their name and the comment. This is then sent to a moderation queue and displayed when approved. I want to acheive this: Comment with facebook login (ie facebook account listed as the name w/ avatar) Comment with twitter login (ie twitter account name listed as the name w/ avatar) Push comment from my website to twitter and to facebook I could go down a few paths as far as I know: Integrate with XFBML, which I don't like because I find it annoying to setup and messy. Integrate facebook comments system, although this can't push to twitter, or allow me to moderate comments from my backend (as far as I can tell i'd have to login under the facebook login for the dev account to moderate the comment) Find a php class that does open auth and integrate with both face book and twitter at once find a pre-created php class Anyone have a solution that will bias: a. easy to integrate b. lightweight c. is free Thanks for your suggestions in advance.

  • Is there a good GUI SVN app for Mac (better than XCode)

    Hey everybody, I'm looking for a more robust and fully featured GUI SVN manager for Mac than what is built into XCode (which works, but only as long as you don't need anything beyond the bare basics and doesn't work for versioning scripts and such created in other editors). I can use the terminal commands, but I'd really like the option of using a GUI. On windows I use TortoiseSVN and Visual SVN, which do pretty much everything I need, but as far as I'm aware there's nothing even remotely resembling those on the Mac side.
