• Windows server 2008 R2 IIS7 file permissions

  Hey all i am trying to figure out why i can not access a index.php file from within the wwwroot/mollify/backend directory. It keeps coming up with this: Server Error 403 - Forbidden: Access is denied. You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials that you supplied. I've given all the permissions (Full control) to the wwwroot directory i could think of (IUSR, Guest, GUESTS, IIS_IUSRS, Users, Administrators, NETWORK, NETWORK SERVICE, SYSTEM, CREATOR OWNER & Everyone). I also added index.php to the "Default Document" under my website settings in IIS 7 manager. What else am i missing? Thanks! David

• Creating a Network link between 2 buildings

  Hey My company needs to create a network link between two buildings. Currently we have a cat5e network in one building and would like to connect some computers(about 15) in our second building to the main network in the first building. The distance between the two buildings is 30 metres. The 30 metres means going through a wall from the first building. Going through the car park and then through a wall into the other building. We can run any cables through speed ramps and so we do not need to dig up the road! Also the second building does not have an Internet connection and so we have to create some sort of cable link so that they can share our Internet connection. Ideas? Should we just run cat5e? Should we run fibre? Should we run coaxial?

• How to symlink folders and exclude certain files

  Hey Guys, I'm not a server guru (unfortunately) but have a decent knowledge of linux & bsd. I'm trying to symlink multiple instances of HLDS (game server) but need to exclude certain folders & config files to achieve this properly. I need to do it this way as HLDS loads many mods automatically, and putting an exception to disable the mods doesnt work for all of them. so basically i want: /home/user/hlds-install (the base install) /home/user/server1 /home/user/server2 etc... and then be able to manually put any configs/mods ive excluded into the server dir's so that each server can be configured individually. Can anyone tell me how to do this, perhaps some sort of bash script so that I can just change the targets to run it each time i want to create a new one. I have quite a number to make so doing the whole thing manually for each one definately isn't an option and im all for working smarter, not harder! Thanks :)

• VMware Workstation 7.x error loading operating system help

  Hey all i am using the windows verison of VMware Workstation 7.x and I am getting this error when i start my VM error loading operating system That only started to happen when i tried to load that vmdk file into the program VirtualBox. Prior to this it ran just fine. Ever since then i have been unable to start it in VMware Workstation 7.x... I've already tried to repair the vmdk file but when i do it tells me there are no errors found? I used vmware-vdiskmanager.exe -R "c:\blah\my vm disk.vmdk" Anyone else have any more suggestions i could try? It's a 300+GB VM so i really don't want to lose it!!! Thanks, David

• Why can't I register a domain name that a registrar owns?

  Hey everyone, I am interested in purchasing a .ca domain name. It was taken, and when I did a WHOIS it showed me that GoDaddy (a registrar) has control of it, however when I go to GoDaddy to purchase it, I have no such option. I have always wondered - why do registrars do this? I've come across this situation before with other domains as well. Is there any way to actually purchase a domain like this for yourself? • How to get Virtual PC to recognize MIDI devices?

  Hey all. I have an XP Pro virtual machine running inside Virtual PC 2007. My host machine is x64 Windows 7. I have a MIDI keyboard hooked up to my machine via a Turtle Beach USB to MIDI 1x1 cable. I have installed the driver and software on my host machine and ran a soundcheck, and everything appears to be working fine. Playback is sent to the MIDI device with no problems. However, when I attempt to install the driver and run a soundcheck in my XP virtual machine, the device is not found. Other USB devices (mouse, keyboard, flash drives) work fine in the virtual machine, but not they MIDI keyboard. I'm not sure what steps to take in order to troubleshoot the and get the VM to start recognizing the MIDI keyboard. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

• background copy large files to a laptop?

  Hey All, I like to watch windows media center recorded TV files on my laptop in bed. I find thought that when the programs are in HD I have a lot of stuttering and delays--no doubt b/c of the amount of data being transferred. I actually have a fair amount of space on the laptop's hdd, and wouldn't mind moving the files onto that hard drive, where no doubt my problem would go away. But that requires some planning & time for the files to move. Is there a utility out there that would kind of 'trickle' the files over to the laptop over a long period of time, w/out soaking its bandwidth? Something like ms' BITS tech? • Server 2008 Hard Faults

  Hey all, plase bear with me as I haven't looked at a server in a very long time. The problem I am having is with a Windows 2008 Standard FE Service Pack 2 Intel Xeon X3430 @ 2.40 2.39 GHZ 4 GB Memory 64 Bit There seems to be no problems other than the physical memory peaking at 91%, always with over 100 Hard Faults Per Second. To my understanding hard faults should be fairly rare on a machine with. Are there any logs I can show you? Or investigate myself. The general performance of the machine is ok, i can access SBS2008 and change settings fairly smoothly without hangs etc. However, we connect to the server and do quite a bit of SQL via an application. For a record to retrieve say 20 rows, it can take 20+ seconds. • new cacti installation on ubuntu 12.04 64bit not graphing any data

  Hey guys i just installed cacti on a ubuntu 12.04 server and am having issues with any data showing up on my graphs. If i snmpwalk the certain OID it works. I have tailing on the cacti.log file and i see it polling the values correctly but nothing ever graphs. Is there anything i can check with regards to snmp or something in cacti that may be causing this to not work? I have already checked in my php.ini and have set the timezone, someone was mentioning that may cause issues.

  Hey guys I'm trying to figure out how folder subscriptions work with IMAP Clients and, in my case, in an Exchange 2007 environment. I have managed to deduce, I think correctly, that the folder subscription settings for individuals are stored centrally on the mailbox (At least, having configured 2 profiles on thunderbird, on 2 different machines, they subscribe to the exact same folders and dont display the exact same ones). The point of this being that I have had 2 or 3 different people in the past day report to me that they are having problems subscribing to certain folders, and having certain folder subscriptions remembered (particularly sub-folders). This is across both Thunderbird 2 and 3. can anyone suggest anything? Tom

  Hey, I am having a problem with cURL here. My localhost has curl with openssl enabled, and thus my php code works fine. On running phpinfo() I get the following -- curl cURL support enabled cURL Information libcurl/7.19.5 OpenSSL/0.9.8g zlib/1.2.3.3 libidn/1.15 However, on my other office server, curl does not have openssl support enabled. On running phpinfo() I get the following -- curl cURL support enabled cURL Information libcurl/7.20.1 zlib/1.2.3.3 How do I get openssl support for curl ? Both - openssl and curl - are installed on the office server as of now. I require immediate help. Thank you.

• Camera Canon pal DC95 not being able to get cd contents

  Hey! A friend of mine recorded a family event with his Canon pal DC95. This camera records to a mini cd. I saw the cd being played in the camera (which was hooked up to a tv) but when I place the cd's in my pcs cd player I see nothing. Like if the cd had nothing on it. I tried downloading the manual of the camera (maybe I have to do something to the cd) but I can't find it online. I really want to get the videos on the cd so I can pass them to some other friends. Anyone know how I can achieve this? Please help me out :) Thanks. PS: Just a reminder. I know that the cd's contain stuff, but when I place the cd in the drive I just see a blank cd.

• IIS 6.0 subdomains with host headers and non existent subdomains

  Hey Everyone - We have a wildcard A-Record pointing to our IP and have a number of sites running on IIS 6 with host headers and have a a wildcard SSL certificate for the domain so that each site can run under SSL. For example: https://A.foo.com https:/B.foo.com https:/C.foo.com Everything is working well but I noticed that when we type a non existent subdomain, say D.foo.com, it redirects to A.foo.com. Any idea why that is or how I can change that? I think we may have set up the A.foo.com site before we applied the wildcard A-record with our domain provider and before we had set up the SSL cert. • Can I pin a cmd/batch file to command prompt on the Windows 7 taskbar?

  Hey all, just wanted to ask quick if anyone knows how to do this. If not I'll post it on connect.microsoft.com as a suggestion. With Explorer pinned to the taskbar you can pin folders to Explorer, so they are in the jumplist for the explorer shortcut. I have a shortcut to CMD pinned to my taskbar and would like to be able to do the same concept, ... that is to be able to pin a bat/cmd file to the CMD shortcut, so in the CMD jumplist, I could have quick access to a couple batch files I use routinely. Anyone know a way to do this? I tried just dragging the batch file to the CMD shortcut on the taskbar like how you do with folders and Explorer, but that did not work.

• Best way to duplicate databases nightly?

  Hey all We just got two new servers, that are running Windows Server 2008. The intent is to make the machines pretty much identical, copying the content of the master to the slave on a nightly basis, so that if anything fails, the second copy can stand in immediately. It doesn't need to be up-to-the-minute mirroring, though I suppose that wouldn't hurt if performance is not affected. The two machines will, amongst other things, each be running an instance of SQL Server 2008. The aim is to duplicate the databases on the master down to the slave on a nightly basis. Unless I'm misunderstanding, the slave databases in mirrored databases require the primary to be present to work correctly; I'm hoping for some solution where we have a second machine that can be up and running with minimal downtime if the first one falls over. Am I misunderstanding mirroring? Is that the best way to do things, or should I use some other mechanism? If so, what?

• Allow image upload - most efficient way?

  Hey everyone, In my site, I currently only allow users to import images from other sites rather than uploading it themselves. The main reason for this is because I don't have much storage space on my host (relatively speaking). The host charges quite a bit for additional space. What are the alternatives to hosting images users upload (max 1mb size). Would it be a good idea to purchase separate cheap hosting with "unlimited space" (I know that's not true, but I'm guessing it's more than 1gb)? Or are there some caveats with this approach (e.g. security since the site should not be browsable, but accessed via another server)? Are there alternative ideas that I could employ? • Cygwin won't start Gitk

  Hey I have followed this answer to solve problem with running GUI applications under Cygwin. So far it seems okay, but when I try to open gitk it will complain on that it cannot find any git repository here. I am standing in the correct folder though, and running git from console it works (I can push, pull, and so on) But gitk won't start as it say it is not any git repository here. Anyone know how to fix it? • Is Sql Server 2008 R2 unsupported by Operations Manager (SCOM) 2007 R2?

  Hey all, I'm performing a test configuration of System Center Operations Manager 2007 R2, on a system prepared with Sql Server 2008 R2. Unfortunately, the Scom 2007 R2 prerequisites verification program seems to be detecting exact versions of Sql Server, and not simply a minimum version, like it claims: "System Center Operations Manager 2007 R2 requires SQL Server 2005 Standard or Enterprise Edition with SP1 and above or SQL Server 2008 Standard or Enterprise edition with SP1 and above. Note: Operations Manager 2007 R2 does not support a 32-bit Operations Manager Operations database, Reporting Server data warehouse or Audit Collection database on a 64-bit operating system." I had hoped that this was just a helper tool that was assisting in getting me off the ground, but unfortunately it seems as if it's actually used as a gate for the installation to proceed. Has anyone encountered this? If so, is there a way to fool the installer into thinking that it has a proper version, or otherwise alert it to my valid configuration?

  Hey people, What's the best method to take an exact copy of my external hard disk? A guru suggested rsync, but I was wondering if there's an easier alternative. I do remember reading somewhere that Acronis also does this. Was looking for your advice on the best option. I'm running Windows. Essentially i have an external HDD which has a lot of stuff synchronized across various pcs.   Hey I have an idea but im not sure whether it is possible and looking for advice on how to accomplish this. If i was to try and deploy Windows XP Sysprepped image from a Lenovo Thinkcentre 6073-CTO and tried to drop it onto a Dell Optiplex for instance I would get a BSOD due to the hardware change. What im looking to do is create a few images like so: Windows XP x86 SP3 (Sysprepped) Windows XP x64 SP3 (Sysprepped) ... So that we can use throughout the organization without having to create individual images per computer type. Is there anyway's to accomplish this such as some modification of files pre-ghost, removal a certain drivers pre-sysprep Any advice is appreciated.
