• Remapping special keys on the keyboard

  Hey there. I just bought a new keyboard today, and to my suprise it doesn't include "Next/Previus track" keys, although it has other media keys. It also has useless keys like "Home" which brings up the webbrowser. Or well, it's not actually the "Home" key, it's a special key on the keyboard with a house on it - no idea what it's called. Anyway, so i'd like to remap the "House" key to "Next track". I've tried three different remapping programs now and none of them seem to be working. I think the real problem is that it's a special key, so it's not included in any keyboard remapping applications. The keyboard is a Logitech, can't seem to find the exact model though. Any tips?

• HFS partition mounting read-only

  Hey, I have an external Western Digital Hard drive with two HFS partitions with journaling disabled. When I connect it to a computer running Linux (Debian or Ubuntu), frequently both partitions are mounted read-only. In the past, mounting them on my Macbook and executing the command to disable the journaling often worked (even though it would tell me that journaling was already disabled) but I would love to have a solution which works every time. Thanks! Edit: In light of Chris Johnsen's comment below - my question is how to mount the filesystem read+write on Linux since it is not automatically doing so itself

• Ubuntu 10.04 problems - GVIM and Sound

  Hey Guys ! Well, i have 2 problems .. not exactly problems, but one is a question, and the other is a problem . QUESTION I have installed gVim on my laptop and now i want to install plugins and customize my vimrc . Where is the 'plugin' , 'color' , 'docs' directory located in order for me to drop those files in ? And where do i need to put the .vimrc file for gVim to be able to recogonize it ? PROBLEM Sound isn't working. I dont know whats the problem @ all. It just doesnt play . And NO its not on mute. i Checked. If any other input is required from the terminal , please ask for it. I'm kinda a n00b in all this. Please help. Thanks in advance

  Hey, I have a mail-server running and I want to buy a SSL-Certificate as they are pretty cheap now. I use mail.domain.com as reverse-DNS, POP3 and SMTP clients use mail.domain.com (some use pop3.domain.com and smtp.domain.com) for sending and receiving e-mails. The SSL-Submission asks me for a domain - is it mail.domain.com or domain.com as I do not have a Wildcard-SSL? I just want to use it for Mail. Or is it possible to use it for both by using domain.com? (Apache and Postfix/Courier on the same server and IP)

• virtual box strectch to fit resolution

  Hey guys I have a really annoying problem, that I hope someone has figured out. I just installed ubuntu on virtual box and installed the guest additions so everything was great. I had a resolution that stretched across my screen from left to right and the only virtual box components that were visible were the windows vista title bar : minimize/exit/maximize buttons and virtual box controls at the bottom. Now all of a sudden now that I have installed the ubuntu 170mb of automatic updates, I see vertical and horizontal scroll bars that are part of virtual box and the ubuntu resolution will not stretch across my screen anymore. What I want is a ubuntu resolution that will stretch to fit the maximized window of virtual box, and remove the scroll bars. If anyone has any ideas, I would really appreciate it.

• How to sync my PDA (outlook, no wifi) with my Google Calendar?

  Hey Everybody, We have an old PDA that is not networked (Mio 168). It's main purpose is to serve as an agenda for which we use the outlook that came with it. Now, as my wife usually has the PDA and I want to be able to check and update our agenda too, I'm looking for a way to sync it with Google Calendar by hooking it to my PC via USB. I found a tool to sync outlook with Google Calendar. However, I would need outlook on my PC to be able to use that and I don't have outlook on my PC, nor do I want to buy it just for this sync. So, does anybody here now if and how I can sync my outlook on my PDA with Google Calendar without the go between of a PC version of outlook? Cheers.

• Start Menu freezes when highlighting 'All Programs'

  Hey all, A friends machine is lagging for about 30 seconds when they highlight 'All Programs'. A gray box popus up where the program menu would be, but it doesnt populate for nearly 30 seconds. This seems to happen if he hasn't open the start menu for a bit.. but if he get's it working once, doing it immediatly afterwards will usually not have the same lag. Assuming computer hardware isn't an issue, any ideas what the problem may be? Sidenote: He mentioned making desktop shortcuts is taking long as well, does that give any clues?

  Hey guys, recently I just installed msmtp in linux and I even send a mail from the terminal and it worked: echo -e "Subject: Test Mail\r\n\r\nThis is a test mail" |msmtp --debug --from=default -t [email protected] But in php, after editing the php.ini file to have this: sendmail_path = '/usr/bin/msmtp -t' and using this piece of code: <?php if ( mail ( '[email protected]', 'Test mail from localhost', 'Working Fine.' ) ){ echo 'Mail sent'; } else{ echo 'Error. Please check error log.'; } ?> I get the Mail sent message but don't receive a message in my inbox. Not even in the spam folder. Anything wrong I'm doing?

  I have bought a new PC with Windows 7 and a Kodak wireless printer esp 7. I can't download the software always unsuccessful and can't connect to my printer. Any suggestions? Edit (from the other, duplicate question): Still having problems with printing. I did get it working by removing 'bonjour' but turned on yesterday and hey presto it's not working again. The printer is installed and showing as disconnected. Any ideas now? The chat doesn't work with Windows 7, I have downloaded the latest version, they take ages to answer emails, need to print stuff urgently. It's driving me insane!! Please help.

  Hey guys. So after a prolonged period, (overnight) i lose the ability to initiate a scan directly from the unit. I'll initiate a job and after awhile, it times out and beeps. However, when i go to the PC and initiate a scan from there, the scan job goes through just fine, and i can then initiate scans directly from the unit all day. Until a prolonged period (overnight). Then i have to do the process again. Ive made sure all powersave settings were off.. The PC doesnt go to sleep or a powersave state. Any insight into this will be appreciated. • How to accelerate and notice failure of potentially faulty disks

  Hey, I got a bunch of 'used' servers, whose disks should have been checked, but they have been shipped around the county in crate which can't help. I just had one disk go bad (despite being mirrored, currently trying to get more details). The server was fine for about a week before everything ground to a halt this afternoon. Is there any way 'accelerate' the failure of faulty disks, with the goal of bringing the disk to failure before we launch production services? Would doing lots of I/O with 'dd' or 'iozone' be a good way to test these potentially faulty disks? Any other tests/tools that would help recognized failures before they happen?

• Multiple .bkf files created in Backupexec 12.5 or 2010 related to heavy I/O?

  Hey everyone, I was wondering if anyone who has used backupexec 12.5 or 2010 have ever experienced multiple .bkf files created for a single job. To describe what I mean by multiple files, the .bkf are being created with random file sizes under 2GB even though I've assigned the setting to chop the file after 10GB size. Some jobs will create 20x .bkf files in 1 job with file chunks ranging from 50MB to 800MB sizes. Is this is a sign of heavy I/O issues? Bandwidth limitations? I'm not sure, I'm here to seek some advices and suggestions. I've setup another backup server with the same exact settings and they seem to create a new .bkf file when 10GB limit has been reached. Although I am backing up different machines but I know my settings are an exact match to the problematic or atleast I think it's a problem.

• WGet from one site on a server to another site on the same server

  Hey all, I've recently been asked to administer a couple ubuntu boxes running web servers. I'm a dev by trade so if this question is fairly noob please forgive. We have about a dozen sites running on this box. 2 of our sites need to talk back and forth over a restful api. Unfortunately we are having issues with the sited connection to each other via wget. When we try and run wget manually from the command line from the server pointing to a site also on that server it hangs and eventually times out. If we do the same thing from outside the server to the same site on the server it works. Is there something that could be preventing sites on the same server from communicating with each other? The same thing happens pinging the site from the server.

• Installing Bugzilla on Ubuntu 9.04 and Plesk

  Hey guys. I'm trying to install the latest Bugzilla version on my ubuntu server. (Want to use a subdomain like bugs.domain.com) I already installed all necessary perl modules and check_modules.pl doesn't show any errors. But when I'm running the testserver.pl script I get the following: TEST-OK Webserver is running under group id in $webservergroup TEST-FAILED Fetch of images/padlock.png failed I'm also not able to visit ANY file within the bugzilla folder from the browser. I'm always getting a 404 error. The bugzilla folder and all containing files are set to apache as the owner. I tried to enter the apache configuration form the installation guide in the http.include file of the domain and in the vhosts.conf file of the subdomain as well. I don't know what to do... Playing with plesks' suexecgroup doesn't bring any solution... I hope you can help me! Thanks in advance!

• PS3 through line in?

  Hey all. I'm looking for a way to chat through LAN (via PC) while playing PS3. Would it be possible to run my PS3's sound through my desktop's "line in" and somehow (if possible) mixing it with my normal PC sound to produce one output that I could, say, use with headphones? I'll add that I'm currently running to line in (not mic) from the line out on my monitor (Flatron W2453V), where my PS3 is hooked up via HDMI. I tried running femalex2 to male 3.5mm splitter, but it dims my PC sound when PS3 sound is available. Chat would be impossible. Currently running Linux Mint if that's of any concern, but am willing to switch to any flavour of Linux to get this working

• Root access amazon ec2

  Hey guys, I am very new to linux, and amazon-ec2. I wanted to put a quick server. For some reason, when I sign in with my key pair, it prompts me for a username, I input ec2-user, and I'm in. The problem is that I don't have root access (and can't find the root password). I need to install screen to run the server in the background, and also create a new user, that doesn't have root, to run the server. Neither of which I can do without root.. Any help? • Sending out spam using Gmail with live spaces links?

  Hey guys, I am puzzled as to how my email can get compromised. As an example, (DON'T click on this address if you are not sure if you are safe: katikaj2Bennetth74.spaces.live.com), that's the only link sent using my account, and it seems that the username is randomly generated. After clicking into it on my linux machine, it seems that the only post is a viagra ad. I have never clicked into any of the links sent by any of my contacts. Anyone know what could be causing this? • MAMP and WordPress - Theme is gone

  Hey SuperUsers, I hope this is the right section to post this kind of question. If it's not, I am sorry. But to my question: I created a working WordPress blog, running locally with MAMP Pro. I wanted to share my site, and thought I would go public with it, but self hosted. I signed up at DynDNS for my domain and got it working. People can connect, myself included of course. But here goes my problem: Everytime I try to access my website (**.dyndns.info:8888), I am able to access it, but the theme and pictures are gone, so it's only pure text with some links. I can provide a picture of the website if you want it? But what is it I am doing wrong? I tried to enable Web Sharing, but that didn't make a difference. • Fixing Broken Groups

  Hey, I just got onto a new project with the student government at my University and we're trying to get our webserver into a more workable state. The current problem is that all of us for some reason have sudo power on the server, but we can't write/create files anywhere on the server (as far as we can tell) currently. Our groups are currently as follows: /srv/ice/db$ groups goshri sshamim rmenezes goshri : goshri sshamim : sshamim ptx rmenezes : rmenezes ptx daifotis : daifotis ptx We added a few of us to ptx because we thought that might give us write access but it didn't. We have a bunch of webapps running on this server but since it's university things change hands quickly. What can we do to give us read access?

  Hey, I'm totally behind this topic. Yesterday I was doing profiling for some script I'm working on, and the unit for time spent was a 'CPU second'. Can anyone remind me with the definition of it? For example for some profiling I got: 200.750 CPU seconds. What does that supposed to mean? At other case and for time consuming process I got: -347.977 CPU seconds, a negative number!   Hey folks, I'm bashing my head to configure load balancing stuff between two database servers. I have no clue whether, I can find any mechanism to implement this. I already tried to implement Heart beat clustering but it requires virtual Ip wherein I can't create virtual IP or assign my own IP address in amazon EC2. Is there a way to configure PostgreSQL database servers in similar to Amazon load balancing kind of thing ? If so, please suggest the solution. Thanks in advance.
