• Is traditional JavaScript image pre-loading taboo

  I remember the good-old-days (not really) back when I was still sucking the teet of Dreamweaver to build websites and the lure of playing copypasta with fancy built-in scripts (ex, image-swap) was like black magic. I'm pretty far removed from that now days but I was adapting a small site from it's original FrontPage (::cringe::) format to a standard HTML/CSS implementation and couldn't help wondering... should I should re-implement the JavaScript image pre-loading into the current version? Or, is there a better way? I don't want to block the page from loading by requiring the user to request all the assets withing the page by using the traditional JavaScript pre-loader method. I value giving the user something to look at ASAP, and there's some potential harm to my Google mojo by doing so. Is there a cleaner solution to prevent unnecessary page-reflows during loading? Such as, setting the static width/height dimensions through a CSS style attribute on the image element.

• Image libraries sites to download pro images with no credits expiration policy

  I found professional image libraries sites like http://www.istockphoto.com or http://www.dreamstime.com are quite useful to add some cool images to a website either when filling its contents or when designing its graphic layout. Unfortunately both of the site I listed above use credits plans that expires after 12 months: you buy credits (using real bucks) and then you can download images, but if you don't use all the credits within 1 year, thay suck them out from your virtual wallet (I think it's really unfair, but too bad for you, that's their policy). Do you know about other good image libraries sites (from your real life experience) that use credits to download images, but thay don't expire after 12 months? Obviously I won't ignore your suggestions about any other image libraries sites.

  If i have lots of images appearing tumblr blogs, the sort of tumblogs with very little text just reams and reams of images for people to browse through (example - http://whereisthecool.com/). If my image is embeded in their site like this : <a href="http://mysite.com" target="blank"> <img src="cutecatblog.com/cat.jpg" alt="cute cat"/> </a> so the image was a link back to my site. Although there is no anchor text to speak of does google take into account the alt text of the image ? Would this still count in googles eyes as a backlink ?

I'm already using unit tests for more "common" type of code but when dealing with image processing code I'm not sure how to deal with it. • Will URL encoding the image names

  Just wondering if it makes any difference to Google whether or not I URL encode the image names when linking to them. For example if I have an image named "test-1234-!.jpg", does it make a difference if I name it refer to it as "test-1234-%21.jpg"? The reason I am asking is because I am doing a major shift in the way my website works and while all new image names will not be URL encoded, all of the past ones are. I want to see if it is worth it renaming all of them or if I should just leave it like that.

• Errors with linux-image-3.8.0-36-generic and GRUB

  OS: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Problem 1: When installing anything (or updating) it always ends with this error: Errors were encountered while processing: linux-image-3.8.0-36-generic linux-image-3.8.0-38-generic linux-image-generic-lts-raring linux-generic-lts-raring Problem 2: When installing or updating stuff it opens some grub files and halts execution until I close these grub files. • Strategy for image sizes

  I run a site that has a lot of writers that generate quite a few articles a day. I require them to provide two image sizes (one for the big headline image and one as the thumbnail). I've been wanting to change up the site layout a bit, but I am becoming limited by the image sizes for the posts. I have considered just cropping images, but they still need to look nice, and cropping doesn't always generate what I'd want. I'd prefer to just scale down by percentage (as I do with thumbnails). Should I just make the writers provide more images? How do other sites handle this?

  In my game, I want to provide the user with a drawing feature. By free hand drawing, the user creates a polygon shape. Then, in my game implementation, I have to create a body for the found vertices and generate an image based on that polygon shape. My problem is how to create an image that matches the user-provided vertices. I've heard that cocos2d has something called Image Masking. I don't understand how I could implement it in AndEngine. • GTK TextView automatically resizing

  I'm messing around with GTK and glade for the first time, and I've run across a really annoying issue. When I enter text into a TextView, the TextView automatically resizes larger, pushing other widgets away. This is a really annoying behavior. I do not want my TextView changing size depending on the amount of text within it. Does anyone know what I can do to prevent the TextView from resizing based on its content?

• Last Grid Column Not Auto Resizing With Grid

  I'm having a problem with my TextBoxs not "Auto" resizing. I'm trying to create a form that behaves and looks like the Properties Editor in Visual Studio. What appears to be happening is that the third column is not expanding to fill all of the available remaining space in the grid. Image below is how my form looks on startup. The width of the textboxs is determined by the MinWidth setting on the third ColumnDefinition statement. Also, the Width is set to "*". • Resizing view to display over hidden uitabbar in iPhone

  I have an uitabbarcontroller which contains a couple uiViewControllers. When i show one of those controllers i am hiding the tabbar. This view has a fullscreen uiimageView. The thing is i am seeing a white rectangle over where the tabbar is hidden. I have tried resizing the views but the white rectangle is still there. Any ideas? Thanks
