• Bluetooth connect to a RS232 adapter in android

  Hello All, I am trying to use the Bluetooth Chat sample API app that google provides to connect to a bluetooth RS232 adapter hooked up to another device. Here is the app for reference: http://developer.android.com/resources/samples/BluetoothChat/index.html And here is the spec sheet for the RS232 connector just for reference: http://serialio.com/download/Docs/BlueSnap-guide-4.77%5FCommands.pdf Well the problem is that when I go to connect to the device with: mmSocket.connect(); (BluetoothSocket::connect()) I always get an IOException error thrown by the connect method. When I do a toString on the exception I get "Service discovery failed". My question is mostly what are the cases that would cause an IOException to get thrown in the connect method? I know those are in the source somewhere but I don't know exactly how the java layer that you write apps in and the C/C++ layer that contains the actual stacks interface. I know that it uses the bluez bluetooth stack which is written in C/C++ but not sure how that ties into the java layer which is what I would think is throwing the exception. Any help on pointing me to where I can try to dissect this issue would be incredible. Also just to note I am able to pair with the RS232 adapter just fine but I am never able to actually connect. • Change URL of WebBrowser in C#

  I am designing a simple application using c# and it has a web browser in it. I need to either (preferably) refresh the page that is currently inside the broswer, or navigate to a "new" url. I tried Browser.Url = new Uri("http://www.pandora.com/"); but I get an error when I try to compile it. Error 1 Cannot implicitly convert type 'string' to 'System.Uri' c:\users\sean\documents\visual studio 2010\Projects\Pandora\Pandora\Form1.cs 51 27 Pandora What am I doing wrong?

• How can I Unescape and Reescape strings in .net?

  So here's my situation. I am working on an editor for a communications channel that works over an RS232 serial ASCII terminal. Let's not go into detail for that ;-) To simplify, I need a textbox on a WPF control that can take in text like "Commit\r\n" (which is the .net string "Commit\r\n") and convert it back to "Commit\r\n" as a .net string. I was hoping for a string.Unescape() and string.Escape() method pair, but it doesn't seem to exist. Am I going to have to write my own? or is there a more simple way to do this?

  Hello all, I 'm relatively new to git and and having some problems early on. I've made several commits, but when I try to push them I get a response that says everything is up-to-date. I feel like my problem is the same on listed in this question, but it recommends the following: $ git log -1 # note the SHA-1 of latest commit $ git checkout master # reset your branch head to your previously detached commit $ git reset --hard <commit-id> What exactly will "checking out the master" do?   In mathematics, a Diophantine equation (named for Diophantus of Alexandria, a third century Greek mathematician) is a polynomial equation where the variables can only take on integer values. Although you may not realize it, you have seen Diophantine equations before: one of the most famous Diophantine equations is: X^n+Y^n=Z^n We are not certain that McDonald's knows about Diophantine equations (actually we doubt that they do), but they use them! McDonald's sells Chicken McNuggets in packages of 6, 9 or 20 McNuggets. Thus, it is possible, for example, to buy exactly 15 McNuggets (with one package of 6 and a second package of 9), but it is not possible to buy exactly 16 nuggets, since no non- negative integer combination of 6's, 9's and 20's adds up to 16. To determine if it is possible to buy exactly n McNuggets, one has to solve a Diophantine equation: find non-negative integer values of a, b, and c, such that 6a + 9b + 20c = n. Problem 1 Show that it is possible to buy exactly 50, 51, 52, 53, 54, and 55 McNuggets, by finding solutions to the Diophantine equation. You can solve this in your head, using paper and pencil, or writing a program. However you chose to solve this problem, list the combinations of 6, 9 and 20 packs of McNuggets you need to buy in order to get each of the exact amounts. Given that it is possible to buy sets of 50, 51, 52, 53, 54 or 55 McNuggets by combinations of 6, 9 and 20 packs, show that it is possible to buy 56, 57,..., 65 McNuggets. In other words, show how, given solutions for 50-55, one can derive solutions for 56-65. Problem 2 Write an iterative program that finds the largest number of McNuggets that cannot be bought in exact quantity. Your program should print the answer in the following format (where the correct number is provided in place of n): "Largest number of McNuggets that cannot be bought in exact quantity: n" Hints: Hypothesize possible instances of numbers of McNuggets that cannot be purchased exactly, starting with 1 For each possible instance, called n, a. Test if there exists non-negative integers a, b, and c, such that 6a+9b+20c = n. (This can be done by looking at all feasible combinations of a, b, and c) b. If not, n cannot be bought in exact quantity, save n When you have found six consecutive values of n that in fact pass the test of having an exact solution, the last answer that was saved (not the last value of n that had a solution) is the correct answer, since you know by the theorem that any amount larger can also be bought in exact quantity

  I have a custom function that I'm working on... the problem I'm having is simple: Permssions. example function: drop function circle_area go CREATE FUNCTION circle_area (radius FLOAT) RETURNS FLOAT LANGUAGE SQL BEGIN DECLARE pi FLOAT DEFAULT 3.14; DECLARE area FLOAT; SET area = pi * radius * radius; RETURN area; END GO if I then log out of my "admin" account... and log into test account I get a "Not authorized" error when I try to run something "Select circle_area(foo) from library.bar". I can log into iSeries Navigator, navigate to schema functions permissions and change the permission for public from Exclude to All. bam it works. How do I grant permission to all, either in the CREATE FUNCTION or after?

• Jquery flot and week numbers

  I've plotted some nice graphs with jquery flot. On the x-as the weeknumber is displayed. I would like to display the weeknumbers of the winter season (oct-apr) but that is not possible 'cos flot likes a straight set (0,1,2,3,4 etc) and not (49, 50, 51, 52, 1, 2 etc). I know I could reset each variable individually in the constructor; but is there a way to do this in bulk? Or am I doing something totally wrong that requires a different approach?   This is not a homework question, but rather my intention to know if this is what it takes to learn programming. I keep loggin into TopCoder not to actually participate but to get the basic understand of how the problems are solved. But to my knowledge I don't understand what the problem is and how to translate the problem into an algorithm that can solve it. Just now I happen to look at ACM ICPC 2010 World Finals which is being held in china. The teams were given problem sets and one of them is this: Given at most 100 points on a plan with distinct x-coordinates, find the shortest cycle that passes through each point exactly once, goes from the leftmost point always to the right until it reaches the rightmost point, then goes always to the left until it gets back to the leftmost point. Additionally, two points are given such that the the path from left to right contains the first point, and the path from right to left contains the second point. This seems to be a very simple DP: after processing the last k points, and with the first path ending in point a and the second path ending in point b, what is the smallest total length to achieve that? This is O(n^2) states, transitions in O(n). We deal with the two special points by forcing the first path to contain the first one, and the second path contain the second one. Now I have no idea what I am supposed to solve after reading the problem set. and there's an other one from google code jam: Problem In a big, square room there are two point light sources: one is red and the other is green. There are also n circular pillars. Light travels in straight lines and is absorbed by walls and pillars. The pillars therefore cast shadows: they do not let light through. There are places in the room where no light reaches (black), where only one of the two light sources reaches (red or green), and places where both lights reach (yellow). Compute the total area of each of the four colors in the room. Do not include the area of the pillars. Input * One line containing the number of test cases, T. Each test case contains, in order: * One line containing the coordinates x, y of the red light source. * One line containing the coordinates x, y of the green light source. * One line containing the number of pillars n. * n lines describing the pillars. Each contains 3 numbers x, y, r. The pillar is a disk with the center (x, y) and radius r. The room is the square described by 0 = x, y = 100. Pillars, room walls and light sources are all disjoint, they do not overlap or touch. Output For each test case, output: Case #X: black area red area green area yellow area Is it required that people who program should be should be able to solve these type of problems? • Accessing array values in jQuery ajax callback function

  Values are received through a jQuery AJAX callback, but I've been unsuccessful getting at the values. Here's the ajax call: $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "ajax/ax_all_ajax_fns.php", data: 'request=edit_timecard_entry&staff_id='+staff_id+'&tid='+tid, success: function(data){ alert(data); } } Here's the code sent out by ax_all_ajax_fns.php: $staff_id = $_POST['staff_id']; $t_id = $_POST['tid']; $rCard = mysql_query("SELECT `staff_id`, `date`, `project_id`, `project_num`, `task_desc`, `hours` FROM `timecards` WHERE `t_id`='$t_id'"); $aCard = mysql_fetch_assoc($rCard); print_r($aCard); // echo $aCard; Of course, I don't want the information print_r'd, I want it echoed. The print_r was used to demonstrate that the correct data was sent out by the PHP script, and it is echoed successfully in the alert() box in the success function. So the correct data is being returned, and (if correctly formatted) it is viewable. The data returned in this way looks like this in the alert() popup: Array ( [staff_id] => 51 [date] => 2012-10-18 [project_id] => 0 [project_num => 49 [task_desk] => This is a task [hours] => 3.30 ) But when I use echo to output the $aCard array and then try to break it down inside the success function of the ajax call, I can't figure out how to get at the values. My attempts have consistently returned values of "undefined". In the success function, in place of alert(data);, I've tried this: var tce_staff_id = data['staff_id']; alert(tce_staff_id); and this: var tce_staff_id = data.staff_id; alert(tce_staff_id); What am I missing? UPDATE: Thanks to Martin S. for information re json_encode() PHP instruction. I've modified the ajax script as follows: echo json_encode($aCard); I now get THIS result from alert(data); in the success function: {"staff_id":"51","date":"2012-10-18","project_id":"0","project_num":"49","task_desc":"This is a task","hours":"3.30"} However, the following returns "undefined": alert(data.staff_id); alert(data[0].staff_id); var test = data.staff_id; alert(test); Can anyone see what I'm missing? All above code comes immediately after alert(data) inside the success callback of the ajax function. alert(data) DOES work and displays the desired data, as above.

• Git push won't do anything (Everything up-to-date)

  I'm trying to update a git repository on github. I made a bunch of changes, added them, committed then attempted to do a git push. The response tells me that everything is up to date, but clearly it's not. git remote show origin responds with the repository I'd expect. Why is git telling me the repository is up to date when there are local commits that aren't visible on the repository? • Design Question on when to save

  Hi, I was just after peoples opinion on when the best time to save an object (or collection of objects) is. I appreciate that it can be completely dependent on the situation that you are in but here is my situation. I have a collection of objects "MyCollection" in a grid. You can open each object "MyObject" in an editor dialogue by double clicking on the grid. Selecting "Cancel" on the dialogue will back out any changes you have made, but should selecting "ok" commit those changes back to the database, or should they commit the changes on that object back to the collection and have a save method that iterates through the collection and saves all changed objects? If i have an object "MyParentObject", that contains a collection of childen "MyChildObjectCollection", none of the changes made to each "MyChildObject" would be commited to the database until the "MyParentObject" was saved - this makes sense. However in my current situation, none of the objects in the collection are linked, therefore should the "Ok" on the dialogue commit the changes to the database? Appreciate any opinions on this. • iphone calls both if and else at the same time?

  Hi, I need to determine what file type a file is and then perform a certain action for it. this seems to work fine for some types, however all media types such as videos and sound files get mixed up. I determine the file type by doing this: BOOL matchedMP3 = ([[rowValue pathExtension] isEqualToString:@"mp3"]); if (matchedMP3 == YES) { NSLog(@"Matched MP3"); } I do this for various file types and just define an "else" for all the others. Here's the problem though. The iPhone calls them both. • git: How to diff changed files versus previous versions after a pull?

  I'm new to git, using it via Terminal on Snow Leopard. When I run "git pull" I often want to know what changed between the last version of a file and the new one. Say I want to know what someone else committed to a particular file. How is that done? I'm assuming it's "git diff" with some parameters for commit x versus commit y but I can't seem to get the syntax. I also find "git log" confusing a bit and am not sure where to get the commit ID of my latest version of the file versus the new one.
