  We have a monitoring tool called SCOM which mainly monitors different OS related services .However, we being part of storage team would also like some of our services to be monitored. We have HP NAS , and I am wondering what all services I can ask the other team to monitor for us and alert us if something goes wrong. The same goes with celerra and centera what important services can be monitored .I did search but to no avail.I ‘m not finding any of the useful services..Any help in this regard is greatly appreaciated thanks!

  Is there a command that can be run to verify that a users cron job has run successfully? Platform is Ubuntu 8.04 LTS. I have scripts in /home/useraccount/bin/ running crontab -l while logged in as user results in: # m h dom mon dow command @hourly /home/useraccount/bin/script_1 @hourly /home/locateruser/bin/script_2 I realize scripts could send email or write to a log with a timestamp, but wondering if there is just a way to verify it ran from the command line.

  I'm putting servers on a rack for the first time, and am thinking a 4-post open frame rack is adequate for my needs. I'm putting in a few HP DL 385's and a few other things.   I'm setting up a Squid forward proxy and I'm wondering if I could configure Squid in such a way that the connection from my web browser to squid is https regardless of whether the connection from squid to the destination website is http or https. In other words, I want my connection from my web browser to my forward proxy to be encrypted even though I'm just surfing normal http website through that proxy. Can it be done?

I'm just writing my own file analyzer for general purpose, which can dump JPEG, PNG, EXE, ELF, ASN.1 DER encoded files, etc. in tree style. There are so many file formats in the world that I can't handle them all.   I recently upgraded to a Kingston Hyper-X 120GB SSD, when I run Crystaldiskmark my scores look really slow, my MB (gigabyte 775) does not have an option for ACHI in the BIOS, I'm wondering if that's an issue. The scores were: Seq read -233 write-176.8 512K-224 write-175.8 4K-25 write-80 4K-23 write-102 This drive is rated for over 500, Any help or input would be greatly appreciated..

  I need to be able to export SQL Server logs into CSV files, which I can easily do with the export function. However in doing so I've noticed there's a range of dates missing from the SQL Server logs in Management Studio, two months actually.   For some reason when I boot my laptop now (winxp), it doesn't start explorer.exe automatically; I'm left with a desktop background and a mouse pointer. I have to run taskman and start explorer.exe manually. Recently I had Spyware Dr. detect a severe threat, and I was wondering if there was anyway to re-hookup explorer.exe on startup.

  I was wondering why is it that some programs requires their command prompt parameters to have two dashes in front whereas some (most) only require one dash in front? For example most programs look like this: relaxer -dtd toc.xml toc_gr.xml toc_jp.xml Whereas some programs look like this: xmllint --valid toc.xml --noout What's the reason that some requires two dashes instead of one? Doesn't it make sense for everyone to stick to one standard (i.e. a single dash will do).
