  • Resources for a new Windows Small Business Server administrator?

    - by 80bower
I've recently taken over management of a Windows 2003 Small Business Server and network for a small, less than ten person company. I have some (antiquated) sysadmin experience, but I've little experience with Exchange. The documentation of the existing infrastructure leaves much to be desired, and I was wondering if there's any sort of "So you've just become sysadmin" guides that anyone could recommend.

  • High resolution on small screen

    - by Andrew Cetinick
I just purchased a new ultrabook (Asus UX32VD). Awesome laptop, but I am having trouble using it with its native resolution being 1920 x 1080. Text is so small and hard to read. I have increased the text size in the display options but it don't really improve it for all scenarios, especially in webpages. I am wondering if there is a possible solution to this? Simply lowering the resolution makes everything look pixelated.

  • pipe from tar to ftp

    - by facha
I have ftp access to a server I do not control. I'd like to start sending archives of my server's FS to that ftp. The problem is I don't have enough free space on my system to create a backup archive first (and store it on my fs) and then send it to ftp. So I'm wondering if it is possible to do something like this: tar -jcpvf - / | ftp-put ftp://user:pass@host/file.tbz Normally there is no problem doing it over ssh, but in this case I only have ftp available.

I was just wondering if a wildcard SSL certificate necessarily needs to have a common name that contains the domain name of the sites that need the SSL certificate applied to. E.g for the following: domain name: testdomain.com subsites: www.testdomain.com mobile.testdomain.com mytestenvironment.testdomain.com Do i necessarily need my wildcard certificate to have a common name of *.testdomain.com?

  • Install boot loader with no operating system on hard drive

    - by Jeet Robert
I am trying to reset — or rather, install — a boot loader on my hard drive. I initially had a Linux distro installed, which I completely wiped out. Now, when I try to install Windows 7 from my USB, my machine says Missing operating System And when I don't boot with USB, it says "bootmgr is missing" So now I am wondering, how I can install a boot loader, so I can install Windows 7?

    - by Ash
I was reading this article from Ars on badBIOS and came across this line which states the malware, has the ability to use high-frequency transmissions passed between computer speakers and microphones to bridge airgaps. and wondered if this attack vector was possible ? Not only me , but all other readers were wondering if this had any logical explanation. Can a computer transmit packets via high-frequency sounds broadcast over speakers ?

Hello all, I'm using Windows Vista, and I was wondering if I can put shortcuts for applications.Like for example, if I press a certain combination of keys I get notepad, or something like that. If those shortcuts were already there, how can I know them? Another thing, if I have an application that runs on media files for example, can I add it on the " Right Click" menu when I right click on media files. I hope you got that :) Thanks alot :)

  • Can anyone recommend a good BSS/OSS platform for a voip provider?

    - by john unkas
We are a voip startup and want to launch a voip service, while we have the call control platform (broadworks) we are wondering what BSS/OSS platform to use. Our options are to buy a turnkey solution (if it exists) or else to glue together opensource and commerical offerings to create a complete solution. BSS components we're looking for are identity management, billing, rating, product catalogue, subscription management, reporting, etc..

  • SFTP logging: is there a way?

    - by Darryl Hein
I'm wondering if there is a way to log commands received by the server. It can be all SSH commands, as long as it includes information on commands related to file transfer. I'm having issues with an SFTP client and the creator is asking for logs, but I am unable to find any existing logs. I'm looking to log on both or either CentOS or OS X (although I suspect if it's possible, it'd be similar on both).

  • Direct access to website's database with single click?

    - by Mick
I have noticed that when selecting options (drop down menus, radio buttons etc) on some websites you see an ever more complex URL being created and then you can use that URL to access that website at a later date and go straight to the page with your desired options. Unfortunately on other websites the URL remains fixed and you appear to have no choice but to select the options all over again. I was wondering if there was some utility that would help automate this process.
