• Autodetect Presence of CSV Headers in a File

  Short question: How do I automatically detect whether a CSV file has headers in the first row? Details: I've written a small CSV parsing engine that places the data into an object that I can access as (approximately) an in-memory database. The original code was written to parse third-party CSV with a predictable format, but I'd like to be able to use this code more generally. I'm trying to figure out a reliable way to automatically detect the presence of CSV headers, so the script can decide whether to use the first row of the CSV file as keys / column names or start parsing data immediately. Since all I need is a boolean test, I could easily specify an argument after inspecting the CSV file myself, but I'd rather not have to (go go automation). I imagine I'd have to parse the first 3 to ? rows of the CSV file and look for a pattern of some sort to compare against the headers. I'm having nightmares of three particularly bad cases in which: The headers include numeric data for some reason The first few rows (or large portions of the CSV) are null There headers and data look too similar to tell them apart If I can get a "best guess" and have the parser fail with an error or spit out a warning if it can't decide, that's OK. If this is something that's going to be tremendously expensive in terms of time or computation (and take more time than it's supposed to save me) I'll happily scrap the idea and go back to working on "important things". I'm working with PHP, but this strikes me as more of an algorithmic / computational question than something that's implementation-specific. If there's a simple algorithm I can use, great. If you can point me to some relevant theory / discussion, that'd be great, too. If there's a giant library that does natural language processing or 300 different kinds of parsing, I'm not interested.

  Hi Folks, imagine you have to do DOM manipulation like a lot (in my case, it's kind of a dynamic list). "$root" is an UL element What happens after this code is, both UL's are animated (scrolling) and finally, within the callback of animate this code is executed: $root.detach(); $root = $buffer; $root.css('top', '0px'); $buffer = null; This works very well, the only thing I'm pi**ed off is the performance. I do cache all DOM elements I'm laying a hand on. Without looking too deep into jQuery's source code, is there a chance that my performance issues are located there? Does jQuery use DocumentFragments to append things? If you create a new DOM element with var new = $('<div/>') it is only stored in memory at this point isnt it?

• Slow MySQL Query Breaking my back!

  so, I have tried everything I can think of, and can't get this query to happen in less than 3 seconds on my local server. • Issue intercepting property in Silverlight application

  I am using Ninject as DI container in a Silverlight application. Now I am extending the application to support interception and started integrating DynamicProxy2 extension for Ninject. I am trying to intercept call to properties on a ViewModel and ending up getting following exception: “Attempt to access the method failed: System.Reflection.Emit.DynamicMethod..ctor(System.String, System.Type, System.Type[], System.Reflection.Module, Boolean)” This exception is thrown when invocation.Proceed() method is called. • Hadoop streaming with Python and python subprocess

  I have established a basic hadoop master slave cluster setup and able to run mapreduce programs (including python) on the cluster. Now I am trying to run a python code which accesses a C binary and so I am using the subprocess module. I am able to use the hadoop streaming for a normal python code but when I include the subprocess module to access a binary, the job is getting failed. • How to delete duplicate records in MySQL by retaining those fields with data in the duplicate item b

  I have few thousands of records with few 100 fields in a MySQL Table. Some records are duplicates and are marked as such. Now while I can simply delete the dupes, I want to retain any other possible valuable non-null data which is not present in the original version of the record. Hope I made sense. For instance : a b c d e f key dupe -------------------- 1 d c f k l 1 x 2 g h j 1 3 i h u u 2 4 u r t 2 x From the above sample table, the desired output is : a b c d e f key dupe -------------------- 2 g c h k j 1 3 i r h u u 2 If you look at it closely, the duplicate is determined by using the key (it is the same for 2 records, so the one that has an 'x' for dupe field is the one to be deleted by retaining some of the fields from the dupe (like c, e values for key 1).   The problem here consists of translating a statement written in LINQ to SQL syntax into the equivalent for NHibernate.   I am trying to perform a LINQ query on a DataTable and show the result in another DataTable. My source DataTable looks something like this: DataTable myDataTable = new DataTable(); myDataTable.Columns.Add("OrderID", typeof(int)); myDataTable.Columns.Add("Date", typeof(DateTime)); myDataTable.Columns.Add("UnitsPurchased", typeof(int)); The resulting DataTable looks like this when filled: Order ID Date Units Purchased 16548 10/15/09 250 17984 11/03/09 512 20349 01/11/10 213 34872 01/15/10 175 My current LINQ query looks like this: IEnumerable<DataRow> query = (from row in myDataTable.AsEnumerable() where row.UnitsPurchased > 200 select new { row.OrderID, row.Date, row.UnitsPurchased }) as IEnumerable<DataRow>; resultDataTable.DataSource = query.CopyToDataTable<DataRow>(); Every time I run this code query is null. I can see that that the as IEnumerable<DataRow> is the culprit, but it makes no since to me since DataTable.AsEnumerable() returns an IEnumerable<DataRow>. Any help would be appreciated.

• How can I store HTML in a Doctrine YML fixture

  I am working with a CMS-type site in Symfony 1.4 (Doctrine 1.2) and one of the things that is frustrating me is not being able to store HTML pages in YML fixtures. Instead I have to create SQL backups of the data if I want to drop and rebuild which is a bit of a pest when Symfony/Doctrine has a fantastic mechanism for doing exactly this. I could write a mechanism that reads in a set of HTML files for each page and fills the data in that way (or even write it as a task). But before I go down that road I am wondering if there is any way for HTML to be stored in a YML fixture so that Doctrine can simply import it into the database. Update: I have tried using symfony doctrine:data-dump and symfony doctrine:data-load however despite the dump correctly creating the fixture with the HTML, the load task appears to 'skip' the value of the column with the HTML and enters everything else into the row. In the database the field doesn't show up as 'NULL' but rather empty so I believe Doctrine is adding the value of the column as ''. Below is a sample of the YML fixture that symfony doctrine:data-dump created. I have tried running symfony doctrine:data-load against various forms of this including removing all the escaped characters (new lines and quotes leaving only angle brackets) but it still doesn't work. • Exclude string from wildcard in bash

  Hi, I'm trying to adapt a bash script from "Sams' Teach Yourself Linux in 24 Hours" which is a safe delete command called rmv. The files are removed by calling rmv -d file1 file2 etc. In the original script a max of 4 files can by removed using the variables $1 $2 $3 $4. I want to extend this to an unlimited number of files by using a wildcard. So I do: for i in $* do mv $i $HOME/.trash done The files are deleted okay but the option -d of the command rmv -d is also treated as an argument and bash objects that it cannot be found. Is there a better way to do this? • How to sort a list so that managers are always ahead of their subordinates

  I am working on a project using Groovy, and I would like to take an array of employees, so that no manager follows their subordinates in the array. The reason being that I need to add people to a database and I would prefer not to do it in two passes. So, I basically have: <employees> <employee> <employeeid>12</employeeid> <manager>3</manager> </employee> <employee> <employeeid>1</employeeid> <manager></manager> </employee> <employee> <employeeid>3</employeeid> <manager>1</manager> </employee> </employees> So, it should be sorted as such: employeeid = 1 employeeid = 3 employeeid = 12 The first person should have a null for managers. I am thinking about a binary tree representation, but I expect it will be very unbalanced, and I am not certain the best way to do this using Groovy properly. Is there a way to do this that isn't going to involve using nested loops?

  I am getting a Cannot access object: DataContext after it's been disposed in the below DAL method. I thought that I would be okay calling dispose there. result is an IEnumurable and I thought it was IQueryable that caused these kinds of problems. What am I doing wrong? • Assigning a property across threads

  I have set a property across threads before and I found this post http://stackoverflow.com/questions/142003/cross-thread-operation-not-valid-control-accessed-from-a-thread-other-than-the-t about getting a property. I think my issue with the code below is setting the variable to the collection is an object therefore on the heap and therefore is just creating a pointer to the same object So my question is besides creating a deep copy, or copying the collection into a different List object is there a better way to do the following to aviod the error during the for loop. • ibatis problem using <isNull> whilst iterating over a List

  Hi, I'm new to iBatis and I'm struggling with the and elements. I want to iterate over a List of Book instances (say) that are passed in as a HashMap: MyParameters. The list will be called listOfBooks. The clause of the overall SQL statement will therefore look like this: <iterate prepend="AND" property="MyParameters.listOfBooks" conjunction="AND" open="(" close=")"> ... </iterate> I also need to produce different SQL within the iterate elements depending on whether a property of each Book instance in the 'listOfBooks' List is null, or not. So, I need a statement something like this: <iterate prepend="AND" property="MyParameters.listOfBooks" conjunction="AND" open="(" close=")"> <isNull property="MyParameter.listOfBooks.title"> <!-- SQL clause #1 here --> </isNull> <isNotNull property="MyParameter.listOfBooks.title"> <!-- SQL clause #2 here --> </isNotNull> When I do this I get an error message stating that there is no "READABLE" property named 'title' in my Book class. However, each Book instance does contain a title property, so I'm confused! I can only assuem that I have managled the syntax in trying to pinpoint the title of particular Book instance in listOfBooks. I'm struggling to find the correct technique for trying to achieve this. If anyone can advise a way forward I'd be grateful. Thanks

• How to connect a new query script with SSMS add-in?

  I'm trying to create a SSMS add-in. One of the things I want to do is to create a new query window and programatically connect it to a server instance (in the context of a SQL Login). I can create the new query script window just fine but I can't find how to connect it without first manually connecting to something else (like the Object Explorer). So in other words, if I connect Obect Explorer to a SQL instance manually and then execute the method of my add-in that creates the query window I can connect it using this code: ServiceCache.ScriptFactory.CreateNewBlankScript( Editors.ScriptType.Sql, ServiceCache.ScriptFactory.CurrentlyActiveWndConnectionInfo.UIConnectionInfo, null); But I don't want to rely on CurrentlyActiveWndConnectionInfo.UIConnectionInfo for the connection. I want to set a SQL Login username and password programatically. Does anyone have any ideas? EDIT: I've managed to get the query window connected by setting the last parameter to an instance of System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection. However, the connection uses the context of the last login that was connected instead of what I'm trying to set programatically. That is, the user it connects as is the one selected in the Connection Dialog that you get when you click the New Query button and don't have an Object Explorer connected. EDIT2: I'm writing (or hoping to write) an add-in to automatically send a SQL statement and the execution results to our case-tracking system when run against our production servers. One thought I had was to remove write permissions and assign logins through this add-in which will also force the user to enter a case # canceling the statement if it's not there. Another thought I've just had is to inspect the server name in ServiceCache.ScriptFactory.CurrentlyActiveWndConnectionInfo.UIConnectionInfo and compare it to our list of production servers. If it matches and there's no case # then cancel the query.

• Flash AS2.0 and JavaScript/jQuery (ExternalInterface) Communication

  Hi there, Im trying to use JS to send data to my Flash AS2.0 music player with ExternalInterface, except there are no good tutorials or guides on ExternalInterface that I can find. I want to be able to change the current song in the player by clicking a JavaScript link, and on page / window load without clicking, play a default song. I dont need a super complicated answer on loading sounds in flash, etc., I am just having a lot of difficulties getting JS to send anything to Flash, and when I get that to work - would I need to put some if / else into the flash to determine if the link has been clicked or not? • jQuery1.4.2 $.ajax crashes IE6/7

  Hello there! I'm having a really hard time debugging one of our latest reported bugs. The problem occurs "randomly", not on every page load, sometimes I can "click" around for a minute or two before IE6/7 crashes. By crash I mean that the IE-window shuts down and I get the option to send the crash info to Microsoft. In FF, Chrome, Safari, IE8 everything is working perfectly. What the page does is issuing 2 AJAX Jsonp calls and building some menus with the data returned. The data brought back can be from ~500b to approx. 35kb. The JSON is valid (else it wouldn't have loaded at all in FF etc), and as i told previous, it works for when navigating around the site soemtimes in IE6/7. I've tested to comment out the callbacks, still crashes. If I remove the $.ajax calls the page will work again. Whats strange is that if I downgrade to jQuery 1.3.2 everything works in all browsers including IE6/7. I've taken the crash-logs and looked at them in WinDbg and what happens seems to be a NULL POINTER reference. The last entries of the stack trace is as follows mshtml!CTreePos::SourceIndex+0x9 mshtml!CMarkup::InsertElementInternal+0x3a8 mshtml!CDoc::InsertElement+0x98 mshtml!CDocument::get_implementation+0x144 Anyone having a clue what could cause this?

• Binding a DropDownList inside a DetailsView

  Hello, I'm having problems trying to populate a dropdownlist from the database. When I'm trying to set the datasource I can't find the dropdown control, it's in a DetailsView so I think it might have something to do with it only being created when it's in edit mode. It still says it's in current mode when I'm editing though, so not sure what's going on there.
