  Im using a Custom NestedRepeater Control for ASP.NET which can be found on code project The source is in c# which i have converted to vb and plugged into my solution, so far so good. The problem, im having is databinding to the repeater, my code behind looks like this... '' get all pages Dim navPages As DataSet = Navigation.getMenuStructure() navPages.Relations.Add(navPages.Tables(0).Columns("ID"), navPages.Tables(0).Columns("ParentID")) NestedRepeaterNavigation.RelationName = RelationName NestedRepeaterNavigation.DataSource = navPages NestedRepeaterNavigation.RowFilterTop = "ParentID is null" NestedRepeaterNavigation.DataBind() Then in the item template of my custom repeater im trying the following... <ItemTemplate> <img src="/pix.gif" height="10" width="<%#(Container.Depth * 10)%>"> <%# (Container.DataItem as DataRow)["DESCRIPTION"]%> <%# (Container.NbChildren != 0 ? "<small><i>(" + Container.NbChildren.ToString() +")</i></small>" "") %><small><i></i></small> </ItemTemplate> The databinding falls over; firstly that 'as DataRow' says it was expecting an ')'. And secondly that '!=' identifier expected. Is this due to the translation from c#, should the databinding be different?

• jQuery ui datepicker positioning problem when scrolling down webpage

  I have a webpage that uses multiple instances of the jQuery ui datepicker. My webpage will display ~80 records which extends beyond a single screenshot. <% foreach (var record in Model) { %> <div class="recordname"><%=record.name%></div> <%=Html.TextBox("DateTimePicker", null, new { @class = "date-pick" } )%> // <-- additional html here --> <% } %> I have set the defaults of my datepicker as follows: $(".date-pick").each(function() { $(this).datepicker({ dateFormat: 'dd M yy', showOn: 'button', buttonImage: '/Images/datepickericon.png', buttonImageOnly: true }); }); When the page first loads, if I click any datepicker icon that is visible on screen (i.e. without scrolling) then the datepicker appears as expected. However, if I scroll down the page and then click a datepicker icon, the datepicker does not appear in the screen window but is instead rendered right back near the top of the screen. Any ideas how to solve this? I am using: IE7 asp.net mvc jquery.ui.datepicker.js (UI/API/1.8/Datepicker)

• Parsing large delimited files with dynamic number of columns

  Hi, What would be the best approach to parse a delimited file when the columns are unknown before parsing the file? The file format is Rightmove v3 (.blm), the structure looks like this: #HEADER# Version : 3 EOF : '^' EOR : '~' #DEFINITION# AGENT_REF^ADDRESS_1^POSTCODE1^MEDIA_IMAGE_00~ // can be any number of columns #DATA# agent1^the address^the postcode^an image~ agent2^the address^the postcode^^~ // the records have to have the same number of columns as specified in the definition, however they can be empty etc #END# The files can potentially be very large, the example file I have is 40Mb but they could be several hundred megabytes. Below is the code I had started on before I realised the columns were dynamic, I'm opening a filestream as I read that was the best way to handle large files. I'm not sure my idea of putting every record in a list then processing is any good though, don't know if that will work with such large files. • Oracle Data Provider and casting

  I use Oracle's specific data provider, not the Microsoft provider that is being discontinued. The thing I've found about ODP.NET is how picky it is with data types. Where JDBC and other ADO providers just convert and make things work, ODP.NET will throw an invalid cast exception unless you get it exactly right. Consider this code: String strSQL = "SELECT DOCUMENT_SEQ.NEXTVAL FROM DUAL"; OracleCommand cmd = new OracleCommand(strSQL, conn); reader = cmd.ExecuteReader(); if (reader != null && reader.Read()) { Int64 id = reader.GetInt64(0); return id; } Due to ODP.NET's pickiness on conversion, this doesn't work. My usual options are: 1) Retrieve into a Decimal and return it with a cast to an Int64 (I don't like this because Decimal is just overkill, and at least once I remember reading it was deprecated...) Decimal id = reader.GetDecimal(0); return (Int64)id; 2) Or cast in the SQL statement to make sure it fits into Int64, like NUMBER(18) String strSQL = "SELECT CAST(DOCUMENT_SEQ.NEXTVAL AS NUMBER(18)) FROM DUAL"; I do (2), because I feel its just not clean pulling a number into a .NET Decimal when my domain types are Int32 or Int64. Other providers I've used are nice (smart) enough to do the conversion on the fly. Any suggestions from the ODP.NET gurus?

  Hi all, I want to allocate rankings to users, based on a points field. Easy enough you'd think with an order_by query. But how do I deal with the situation where two users have the same number of points and need to share the same ranking? Should I use annotate to find users with the same number of points? My current code, and a pseudocode description of what I'd like to do, are below. top_users = User.objects.filter(problem_user=False).order_by('-points_total') # Wrong - in pseudocode, this should be # Get the highest points_total, find all the users with that points_total, # if there is more than one user, set status to 'Joint first prize', # otherwise set status to 'First prize' top_users[0].status = "First prize" if (top_users[1]): top_users[1].status = "Second prize" if (top_users[2]): top_users[2].status = "Third prize" if (top_users[3]): top_users[3:].status = "Highly commended" The code above doesn't deal with the situation where two users have the same number of points and need to share second prize. I guess I need to create a query that looks for unique values of points_total, and does some kind of nested ranking? It also doesn't cope with the fact that sometimes there are fewer than 4 users - does anyone know how I can do (in pseudocode) 'if top_users[1] is not null...' in Python?

• ASP.NET dynamically reassign controls in the control tree

  Let's say I have a custom control that looks like this <cc:MyControl runat="server" ID="myc" LinkControlID="NewParent" /> and, on the same page: <asp:TextBox runat="server" ID="NewParent" /> What I would like to do is, from MyControl, change NewParent's parent so that it would be part of MyControl's Controls collection. When I try to do this, from OnInit, I get: The control collection cannot be modified during DataBind, Init, Load, PreRender or Unload phases. Which makes sense, but is there a way around this? I'm OK if NewParent remains the child of the Page as long as from MyControl I can somehow redirect the rendering to MyControl's control. Can this be done? Thanks. • Converting a PHP associative array to a JSON associative array

  I am converting a look-up table in PHP which looks like this to JavaScript using json_encode: AbilitiesLookup Object ( [abilities:private] => Array ( [1] => Ability_MeleeAttack Object ( [abilityid:protected] => [range:protected] => 1 [name:protected] => MeleeAttack [ability_identifier:protected] => MeleeAttack [aoe_row:protected] => 1 [aoe_col:protected] => 1 [aoe_shape:protected] => [cooldown:protected] => 0 [focusCost:protected] => 0 [possibleFactions:protected] => 2 [abilityDesc:protected] => Basic Attack ) .....snipped... And in JSON, it is: {"1":{"name":"MeleeAttack","fof":"2","range":"1","aoe":[null,"1","1"],"fp":"0","image":"dummy.jpg"},.... The problem is I get a JS object, not an array, and the identifier is a number. I see 2 ways around this problem - either find a way to access the JSON using a number (which I do not know how) or make it such that json_encode (or some other custom encoding functions) can give a JavaScript associative array. (Yes, I am rather lacking in my JavaScript department). Note: The JSON output doesn't match the array - this is because I do a manual json encoding for each element in the subscript, before pushing it onto an array (with the index as the key), then using json_encode on it. To be clear, the number are not sequential because it's an associative array (which is why the JSON output is not an array).

• OpenGL/Carbon/Cocoa Memory Management Autorelease issue

  Hoooboy, I've got another doozy of a memory problem. I'm creating a Carbon (AGL) Window, in C++ and it's telling me that I'm autorelease-ing it without a pool in place. uh... what? I thought Carbon existed outside of the NSAutoreleasePool... When I call glEnable(GL_TEXTURE_2D) to do some stuff, it gives me a EXC_BAD_ACCESS warning - but if the AGL Window is never getting release'd, then shouldn't it exist? Setting set objc-non-blocking-mode at (gdb) doesn't make the problem go away. So I guess my question is WHAT IS UP WITH CARBON/COCOA/NSAutoreleasePool? And... are there any resources for Objective-C++? Because crap like this keeps happening to me. Is there some simple way to do it, without million of .replaceAll() calls? So for example: Ðonardan = Djonardan, Blaß = Blass and so on. • ASP.NET putting dynamic controls on page in reverse messes up events

  I have this weird problem when putting textboxes on the page in reverse. The whole event system is messed up. Changing one textbox fires TextChange on all textboxes. I can fix this by putting the controls in a list first and then call add while iterating trough the list in reverse. But i just want to know why this fails.   I have a bidding table, as follows: SellID INT FOREIGN KEY REFERENCES SellItem(SellID), CusID INT FOREIGN KEY REFERENCES Customer(CusID), Amount FLOAT NOT NULL, BidTime DATETIME DEFAULT getdate() Now in my website I need to show the user the current bids; only the highest bid but without repeating the same user. SELECT CusID, Max(Amount) FROM Bid WHERE SellID = 10 GROUP BY CusID ORDER BY Max(Amount) DESC This is the best I have achieved so far. This gives the CusID of each user with the maximum bid and it is ordered ascending. But I need to get the BidTime for each result as well. When I try to put the BidTime in to the query: SELECT CusID, Max(Amount), BidTime FROM Bid WHERE SellID = 10 GROUP BY CusID ORDER BY Max(Amount) DESC I am told that "Column 'Bid.BidTime' is invalid in the select list because it is not contained in either an aggregate function or the GROUP BY clause." Thus I tried: SELECT CusID, Max(Amount), BidTime FROM Bid WHERE SellID = 10 GROUP BY CusID, BidTime ORDER BY Max(Amount) DESC But this returns all the rows. No distinction. Any suggestions on solving this issue?

It all works well if the file name does not contain characters in that range. Type is set to xml so there should not be a confusion of types. Headers of the xml files are also set adequately. I can see from the console that jQuery throws an error, but I'm not sure as to where the problem really is. Probably a problem with file name formatting, but I did not find any resources on the web as to AJAX file name specifications. Any ideas? Thanks for you help!

• Blob in Java/Hibernate/sql-server 2005

  Hi, I'm trying to insert an HTML blob into our sql-server2005 database. i've been using the data-type [text] for the field the blob will eventually live in. i've also put a '@Lob' annotation on the field in the domain model. The problem comes in when the HTML blob I'm attempting to store is larger than 65536 characters. Its seems that is the caracter-limit for a text data type when using the @Lob annotation. Ideally I'd like to keep the whole blob in tact rather than chunk it up into multiple rows in the database. I appreciate any help or insight that might be provided. It is true that the log file does not exist (the folder structure does), but if I set the file directly to that path (<param name="File" value="C:/Apps/Apache/Tomcat7/logs/GEM.log" />) it works fine. Why can't I use the replacement string?

• Semaphore race condition?

  I have created a "Manager" class that contains a limited set of resources. The resources are stored in the "Manager" as a Queue. I initialize the Queue and a Semaphore to the same size, using the semaphore to block a thread if there are no resources available. I have multiple threads calling into this class to request a resource. Here is the psuedo code: public IResource RequestResource() { IResource resource = null; _semaphore.WaitOne(); lock (_syncLock) { resource = _resources.Dequeue(); } return resource; } public void ReleaseResource(IResource resource) { lock (_syncLock) { _resources.Enqueue(resource); } _semaphore.Release(); } While running this application, it seems to run fine for a while. Then, it seems like my Queue is giving out the same object. Does this seem like its possible? I'm pulling my hair out over here, and any help would be greatly appreciated. • Flex: FileReference and Image unhandled IOErrorEvent

  The following code shows a button that allows you to select a file (should be an image) and display it into an image component. When I select an invalid image (e.g. a word document), I get the following error: "Error #2044: Unhandled IOErrorEvent:. text=Error #2124: Loaded file is an unknown type." I know I can pass a FileFilter to the FileReference:browse call, but that's beyond the point. My question is...
