  • Do large number of internal broken links affect SEO?

    We've a WordPress blog and had disqus plugin in stalled for several months. Around late August this year, the plugin created a ton of URLs that linked to non-existent location on our website. For example - Correct URL: domain.com/correct-URL/ Disqus created - domain.com/correct-URL/344322/ - Throws 404 domain.com/correct-URL/433466/ - Throws 404 So essentially, Google found a LARGE number of broken links that pointed to unknown locations on our own domain. As the count of those errors (404) rose, our site suffered massive drop in traffic and crawl rate dropped to 10% of what it was earlier. I wish to know - Can large number of (we've over 99k of them) internal broken links cause rankings to drop? I've fixed the issue in one go by creating 301 redirects for each bad URL to correct URL and removing disqus. Google however drops the count by ~1000 daily, as I mark errors as 'fixed' in Google Webmaster Tools. Is there any way to speed this up? Should I setup custom crawl rate to 'Fast' in GWT to make Google crawl our website faster? I'd appreciate your inputs and experience sharing.

Any ideas on how to remove it using dig options? I sure could cut it out using other tools, but a option with dig itself would be the cleanest and nicest.

One is, how do I make RewriteCond+RewriteRule change domain2/folder1 to domain1/folder1 Actually what I want is any domain that tries to access folder1 that is not domain1 gets switched to domain1. So for example domain2.com/domain1/foo - domain1.com/domain1/foo as well as domain3.com/domain1/foo - domain1.com/domain1/foo This is what I tried RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^domain1\.com$ [NC] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ^/folder1/ RewriteRule ^/folder1/(.*)$ http://domain1.com/folder1/$1 [L,R=permanent] But that doesn't work. Next I tried some a simpler rule to see if I could narrow down the issue. RewriteCond ${HTTP_HOST} domain2\.com [NC] RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://google.com/ [L] I though that would make ANY request to domain2.com go to google.com so I tried http://domain2.com/foo but I get domain2.com/foo not google.com If I go to http://domain2.com I get google.     I have a script that for legacy reasons needs to run inside a 32 bit command shell. This script also includes references to certain core windows binaries - most notably wuauclt but others as well - which are not accessible by default within the 32 bit environment. This script is being run in several locations including many windows 7 and server 2008 r2 boxes. I'm aware of the possibility to copy files from the system32 to syswow64 in order to get around this. Is there any better method - something along the lines of adding an entry to the path variable - which will allow me to fall back to these 64 bit binaries from within a 32 bit script?

Currently the only solution I have found that works is to add an entry to the sudoers file for the user hudson like so: hudson ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD:ALL However, although my build script now runs without error in Hudson, I am not entirely comfortable with this solution. Is there a better way?

What do people consider to be the ethical guidelines regarding such review and ratings solicitations? What's over the line?   • What are my choices for server side sandboxed scripting?

    I'm building a public website where users share data and scripts to run over some data. The scripts are run serverside in some sort of sandbox without other interaction this cycle: my Perl program reads from a database a User made script, adds the data to be processed into the script ( ie: a JSON document) then calls the interpreter, it returns the response( a JSON document or plain text), i save it to the database with my perl script. The script should be able to have some access to built in functions added to the scripting language by myself, but nothing more. So i've stumbled upon node.js as a javascript interpreter, and and hour or so ago with Google's V8(does v8 makes sense for this kind of thing?). CoffeeScript also came to my mind, since it looks nice and it's still Javascript. I think javascript is widespread enough and more "sandboxeable" since it doesn't have OS calls or anything remotely insecure ( i think ). by the way, i'm writing the system on Perl and Php for the front end. To improve the question: I'm choosing Javascript because i think is secure and simple enough to implement with node.js, but what other alternatives are for achieving this kind of task? Lua? Python? I just can't find information on how to run a sandboxed interpreter in a proper way.

My question is, how to call functions that take more than 1 frame to finish?     Sorry about my bad English. Here's the question: Is there a way to resume ./configure script from where it stopped just after fixing a dependency requirement? It seems that the script runs for a long time just until it throws me another unsatisfied dependency... After I fix it, the ./configure script starts running from zero again. This would sure save me a few minutes every time I compile a package which I don't have easy access to its dependencies. Does this resuming depend on the publisher providing caching for its configure script, or is there something I can do about that? Any ideas? Thank you.

    I am using Ubuntu 11.10 and am looking for a solution to password protect a bunch of pdf files in a directory in batch. I came across PDFtk and it looks like it might do what I need, but I've reviewed the command line PDFtk examples and can't figure out if there is a way to do it in batch without having to individually specify the output file name for every file. I'm hoping a command-line guru can take a look at the PDFtk syntax and tell me if there is some trick / command that will allow me to password protect a directory of pdf files (e.g., *.pdf) and overwrite the existing files using the same name, or consistently rename the individual output files without having to specify each output name individually.     I’m having some problems debugging an encoded javacscript. This script I’m referring to given in this link over here. The encoding here is simple and it works by shifting the unicodes values to whatever Codekey was use during encoding. Like for example when the value of i=0 what values would the following attributes / method would hold s1.charCodeAt(i) and s.substr(s.length-1,1) The reason I’m doing this is to understand as to how a CodeKey function really works. I don’t see anything in the code above which tells it to decode on the basis of codekey value. The only thing I can point in the encoding text is the last character which is set to 1 , 2 ,3 or 4 depending upon the codekey selected during encoding process. One can verify using the link I have given above. However, to debug, I’m using firebug addon with the script running as localhost on my wamp server. I’m able to put a breakpoint on the js using firebug but I’m unable to retrieve any of the user defined parameters or functions I mentioned above. I want to know under this context what would be best way to debug this encoded js.

  • How can I remedy the always-on-top window problem?

    Sorry for the vague title but this one is hard to explain so bear with me please. I'm using Windows Vista at work for web development and sometimes when I Click or Alt-Tab to background window, the window will get focus but it will not be brought to the front. In order to bring the window to the front, I have to click on the applications border (when the resize cursor appears) and the window will then jump to the front. I've had this problem for about a year now and it happens at least a dozen times a day, but it doesn't do this all the time - seems random. I hope I have explained the issue fully (and you've understood it) and would appreciate any constructive answers or comments to solve this problem. Example: If I Alt-Tab from Google Chrome to Notepad and this problem randomly occurs, Google Chrome will remain in front of Notepad, however, I will be able to type text into Notepad while the window is behind Google Chrome. Clicking on Notepad's content area will not bring it to the front but clicking it's window border will. I'm starting to believe that this could be a bug in Google Chrome so I'll continue to watch if this between other applications.

I would like to get emails from specified address delivered to one of my users being feed to shell command, as addition to normal delivery. So, basically, I have some shell script, and I'd like qmail to invoke my script with the email, and the continued with delivery as usual. If necessary, I can do recipient/sender filterind on script side, though it could be more efficient and cleaner, if qmail would feed only correct emails to my script. Anyway, how to accomplish that?

  • "killed" message from cron.daily, but not when run from command line

    On Fedora 17, I put a file into /etc/cron.daily with the following contents: cd / su dstahlke /home/dstahlke/bin/anacron-daily.sh exit 0 For some reason, I get a mail every day that just says /etc/cron.daily/dstahlke-daily: ...killed. I tried with and without the exit 0 line above (I noticed that some system scripts have that and others don't, I'm not sure of the purpose). Running /etc/cron.daily/dstahlke-daily from the command line as root produces no ...killed message. Other than the message, everything seems to work fine. Putting set -x in the above script, as well as in the /home/dstahlke/bin/anacron-daily.sh script shows that the ...killed message happens just after the latter script terminates (or perhaps just after the su command finishes). What causes the ...killed message? Or, is there a more acceptable way to have anacron run a user script daily? I figured that putting this in /etc/cron.daily would help the system coordinate all of the daily tasks rather than potentially running my task concurrently with the system tasks.

  • Hourly CRON task running more frequently than one hour

    I have a cron task that calls a special PHP script via wget. Here is the crontab entry: 0 * * * * wget http://www.... It will work perfect for several days, running on the hour. However, after a few days the cron job will start to be called several times an hour. I have never seen CRON drift like this, so I imagine it can't really be a CRON issue. However, the logs of the script that is called clearly show it running several times an hour. Server details: Ubuntu Luci Apache MySQL PHP5 Time is showing correct @ command line Server is setup to sync with a NTP server In order for the script to run it must be passed a unique 50-character hash key in the URL, so this script isn't being called from any other source accidentally. What might cause CRON to drift like this?

  • How do I launch a process as a specific user at startup on OS X?

    I would like to run a script as a particular user on startup (not on login). I thought a launchd LaunchDaemon would do it, but 'man launchd' says: "If you wish your service to run as a certain user, in that user's environment, making it a launchd agent is the ONLY supported means of accomplishing this on Mac OS X. In other words, it is not sufficient to perform a setuid(2) to become a user in the truest sense on Mac OS X." They aren't kidding--when I try to run my script as a LaunchDaemon it doesn't work. In particular I'm trying to automate some keychain operations using the 'security' command, and it won't let me change the default keychain when I run the script through LaunchDaemon, though the script works fine when run using sudo from a shell. A LaunchAgent won't work, because the goal is for the proces to run without a user logging in and LaunchAgents only run when someone logs in. I looked at cron and the @reboot directive and that looks promising, but I read that cron is deprecated on OSX.

  • Is there an OpenID demo server out there?

    Hi everyone. I'm doing some experiements with adding OpenID to something I'm working on, and I'd like to test out a few providers. Is there a server out there that will go through the OpenID login process (same way that the StackOverflow group does) and tell me all the information the provider shows. I imagine it would work like... I go to example.com and type in https://www.google.com/accounts/o8/id example.com bounces me to google. I log in. Google asks me to confirm if I allow example.com access to everything. Google bounces me back to example.com example.com tells me my OpenID, email address, anything else it's got. Does such a thing please already exist?
