• Vertical alignment problem in textbox in Microsoft Word 2007

  I pardon as its not a programming question at all. But if anybody can answer this it will be usefull for me. In MS word 2007 I drew a textbox and entered some text. Then I right clicked on textbox and went to format shape Then went to TextBox tab and reduced the top internal margin to 0.1 cm. But still it seems there is too much space at the top inside the textbox. I am not able to position the text exactly at the vertical middle of textbox. If I choose the auto-rezide option in format Shape, the textBox size is increases automatically but the text remains exactly at vertical and horizontal middle of textbox. but anyhow I need the textbox to be small. This is very minor but annoying problem. Can anybody help?

• Windows XP-64 loses audio sounds, drive letters... why?

  Until sometime in early December, I had a wonderfully functioning XP-64 system. It was configured to auto download/install MS patches. I occassionally update the software on it, e.g. Open Office, Adobe Reader, Skype, but I don't fetch hundreds of tools or anything much beyond what I just mentioned. In December, suddenly my audio stopped, and drive letters assigned to various mount points on other machines quit being available. Apparantly, the services that support these (and some others) are now not starting up when I boot/login. There isn't anything obvious in the event log. If I manually restart the associated services, these facilities come back on line and work for awhile (a day) but pretty soon the problem reappears. I don't reboot very often, nor do I log out out much. Hints?

• help with grouping and sorting for TreeView in xaml

  I am having problems getting my head around grouping and sorting in xaml and hope someone can get me straightened out! I have creaed an xml file from a tree of files and folders (just like windows explorer) that can be serveral levels deep. I have bound a TreeView control to an xml datasource and it works great! It sorts everything alphabetically but ... • Using Essential Use Cases to design a UI-centric Application

  Hello all, I'm begging a new project (oh, how I love the fresh taste of a new project!) and we are just starting to design it. In short: The application is a UI that will enable users to model an execution flow (a Visio like drag & drop interface). So our greatest concern is usability and features that will help the users model fast and clearly the execution flow. Our established methodology makes extensive use of Use Cases in order to create a harmonious view of the application between the programmers and users. This is a business concern, really: I'd prefer to use an Agile Method with User Stories rather than User Cases, but we need to define a clear scope to sell the product to our clients. However, Use Cases have a number of flaws, most of which are related to the fact that they include technical details, like UI, etc, as can be seem here. But, since we can't use User Stories and a fully interactive design, I've decided that we compromise: I will be using Essential Use Cases in order to hide those details. Now I have another problem: it's essential (no pun intended) to have a clear description of UI interaction, so, how should I document it? In other words, how do I specify a application through the use of Essential Use Cases where the UI interaction is vital to it? I can see some alternatives: Abandon the use of Use Cases since they don't correctly represent the problem Do not include interface descriptions in the use case, but create another documentation (Story Boards) and link then to the Essential Use Cases Include UI interaction description to the Essential Use Cases, since they are part of the business rules in the perspective of the users and the application itself

• 'Hot code replace' not working -- Eclipse doesn't change any code on JBoss

  Hello, fellow visitors! I'm currently experiencing a problem with 'hot code replace' not working on Eclipse Galileo and JBoss 4.2.3. Among other applications I'm running an exploded Java WAR on my local JBoss. The project from which it is build is managed by Maven. I build the project using the Maven goal war:exploded and then I copy that directory to JBoss with an ANT script. When I'm now running the application and set a breakpoint anywhere in the code, Eclipse properly halts at that line in the debug mode. But when I'm making a change to the source file and save it, Eclipse doesn't apply this change to the JBoss. For example, when I make a normal code line into a comment, the debugger still steps over this comment as if it was regular Java code. Or when I remove a line, the debugger seems to get out of sync with the file and starts stepping over parenthesis. But I'm not getting any 'hot code replace error'-messages either. It seems to me that Eclipse applies the changes to the source files, but doesn't apply it to the JBoss. Are there any special preferences that have to be turned on in order to make hot code replace work? Or are there any mistakes in how I build and deploy the application to the JBoss? • Best way to fix security problems caused by windows updates?

  I have a laptop running Windows 7 32-bit. Last nights security updates caused my logitech mouse to stop working (specifically, it caused several USB ports to stop altogether). After reviewing the system event log I found that the IPBusEnum component was failing due to an activation security error. A little more research and I found that this was caused by the TrustedInstaller replacing the security permissions on those keys and generally mucking them up. To fix this I had to open regedit, take ownership of ALL the keys related to IPBusEnum and force it to use the inherited permissions from the tree. Is there a better way to fix this when MS screws up the updates? I would hate to have to walk around to a number of machines and manually fix the registry key security settings.

• Odd tcp deadlock under windows

  We are moving large amounts of data on a LAN and it has to happen very rapidly and reliably. Currently we use windows TCP as implemented in C++. Using large (synchronous) sends moves the data much faster than a bunch of smaller (synchronous) sends but will frequently deadlock for large gaps of time (.15 seconds) causing the overall transfer rate to plummet. This deadlock happens in very particular circumstances which makes me believe it should be preventable altogether. More importantly if we don't really know the cause we don't really know it won't happen some time with smaller sends anyway. Can anyone explain this deadlock? Deadlock description (OK, zombie-locked, it isn't dead, but for .15 or so seconds it stops, then starts again) The receiving side sends an ACK. The sending side sends a packet containing the end of a message (push flag is set) The call to socket.recv takes about .15 seconds(!) to return About the time the call returns an ACK is sent by the receiving side The the next packet from the sender is finally sent (why is it waiting? the tcp window is plenty big) The odd thing about (3) is that typically that call doesn't take much time at all and receives exactly the same amount of data. On a 2Ghz machine that's 300 million instructions worth of time. I am assuming the call doesn't (heaven forbid) wait for the received data to be acked before it returns, so the ack must be waiting for the call to return, or both must be delayed by something else. The problem NEVER happens when there is a second packet of data (part of the same message) arriving between 1 and 2. That part very clearly makes it sound like it has to do with the fact that windows TCP will not send back a no-data ACK until either a second packet arrives or a 200ms timer expires. However the delay is less than 200 ms (its more like 150 ms). The third unseemly character (and to my mind the real culprit) is (5). Send is definitely being called well before that .15 seconds is up, but the data NEVER hits the wire before that ack returns. That is the most bizarre part of this deadlock to me. Its not a tcp blockage because the TCP window is plenty big since we set SO_RCVBUF to something like 500*1460 (which is still under a meg). The data is coming in very fast (basically there is a loop spinning out data via send) so the buffer should fill almost immediately. According to msdn the buffer being full and at least one pending send should cause the data to be sent (though in another place it mentions that there various "heuristics" used in deciding when a send hits the wire). Anway, why the sender doesn't actually send more data during that .15 second pause is the most bizarre part to me. The information above was captured on the receiving side via wireshark (except of course the socket.recv return times which were logged in a text file). We tried changing the send buffer to zero and turning off Nagle on the sender (yes, I know Nagle is about not sending small packets - but we tried turning Nagle off in case that was part of the unstated "heuristics" affecting whether the message would be posted to the wire. Technically microsoft's Nagle is that a small packet isn't sent if the buffer is full and there is an outstanding ACK, so it seemed like a possibility).

  I am having a hard time getting cxf to validate an xml request that my service creates for a 3rd party. My project uses maven. Here is my project structure Main Module : + Sub-Module1 = Application + sub-Module2 = Interfaces In Interfaces, inside src/main/resources I have my wsdl and xsd. so, src/main/resources + mywsdl.wsdl. + myschema.xsd The interface submodule is listed as a dependency in the Application-sub-module. inside Application sub-module, there is a cxsf file in src/maim/resources. <jaxws:client name="{myTargerNameSpaceName}port" createdFromAPI="true"> <jaxws:properties> <entry key="schema-validation-enabled" value="true" /> </jaxws:properties> </jaxws:client> AND:. <jaxws:endpoint name="{myTargetNameSpaceName}port" wsdlLocation="/mywsdl.wsdl" createdFromAPI="true"> <jaxws:properties> <entry key="schema-validation-enabled" value="true" /> </jaxws:properties> </jaxws:endpoint> I tried changing the "name="{myTargetNameSpaceName}port" to "name="{myEndPointName}port" But to no anvil. My application works. But it just do not validate the xml I am producing that has to be consumed by a 3rd party application. I would like to get the validation working, so that any request that I send would be a valid one. Any suggestions?

• Folder Redirection - Explorer requires manual refresh

  Hello, I am having an issue where - when a users my documents folder is redirected to a DFS share, windows explorer requires a manual refresh after creating a new folder, file, etc. (Interestingly, not when making a new briefcase) I have tried a number of MS knowledge base articles, a hot-fix and a registry change, all with no success. (( http:// support.microsoft.com/?kbid=823291 ; http:// support.microsoft.com/kb/873392 )) The problem only occurs when going through the my documents icon. If I map a home drive for the user to the exact same location (IE - H:\DFS\user\documents) , open that drive and make new folders, then there is no problem. Mapping my documents to H:\ also resolves the issue, however, as we need folder sync and people logging on off site with cached profiles this is not a workable solution (as H: will not map and there will be no access to their docs.) Has anyone managed to figure a fix for this? Thanks, Pete.

• How to publish an ASP.NET MVC website

  Hello -- I've a site that I'd like to publish to a co-located live server. I'm finding this simple task quite hard. My problems begin with the Web Deploy tool (1.1) giving me a 401 Unauthorized as the adminstrator because port :8172 comes up in the errors and this port is blocked - but the documentation says "The default ListenURL is http://+:80/MsDeployAgentService"! I'm loathe to open another port and I've little patience these days so I thought bu66er it, I'll create a Web Deploy package and import it into IIS on the server over RDP. I notice first that Visual Studio doesn't use a dialog box to gather settings, or use my Publish profiles but seems to use a tab in the project properties, although I think these are ignored when importing the package anyway? I'm now sitting in the import wizard with Application Path and Connection String. I've cleared the conn string as I think this is for some ASP stuff I don't use but when I enter nothing in the Application Path, the wizard barks at me saying that basically I'm a weirdo because most people publish to folders beneath the root site. Now, I want my site to be site.com/Home/About and not site.com/subfolder/Home/About and I think being an MVC routed site that a subfolder will introduce other headaches. Should I go ahead and use the root? Finally, I also want to publish a web service to www.site.com/services/soap which I think IIS can handle. While typing this question, Amazon have delivered my IIS 7 Resource Kit, and I've been scouring the internet but actually I'm getting more confused. • SVN Workflow - Chicken Before the Egg - Before merging V1 with V2, I need code from V1 to work on V2

  Hi, Our distributed team (3 internal devs and 3+ external devs) use SVN to manage our codebase for a web site. We have a branch for each minor version (4.1.0, 4.1.1, 4.1.2, etc...). We have a trunk which we merge each version into when we do a release and publish to our site. An example of the problem we are having is thus: A new feature is added, lets call it "Ability to Create A Project" to 4.1.1. Another feature which depends on the one in 4.1.1 is scheduled to go in 4.1.2, called "Ability to Add Tasks to Projects". So, on Monday, we say 4.1.1 is 'closed' and needs to be tested. Our remote developers usually will start working on features/tickets for 4.1.2 at this point. Throughout the week we will test 4.1.1 and fix any bugs and commit them back to 4.1.1. Then, on Friday or so, we will tag 4.1.1, merge it with trunk, and finally, merge it with 4.1.2. But, for the 4-5 days we are testing, 4.1.2 doesn't have the code from 4.1.1 that some of the new features for 4.1.2 depend on. So a dev who is adding the "Ability to Add Tasks To Projects" feature, doesn't have the "Ability to Create a Project" feature to build upon, and has to do some file copy shenanigans to be able to keep working on it. What could/should we do to smooth out this process? P.S. Apologies if this question has been asked before - I did search but couldn't find what I'm looking for.

• Copy-paste stops working on Windows 7

  Copy-paste functionality stops working after about an hour after each reboot on a Windows 7 64-bit system. Running Google Chrome (with gmail and few other tabs open like Calendar, Reader), MS Outlook (which I don't think has anything to do with the problem — I saw it when outlook was off as well), iTunes (9.1.1.12 if it matters). Would appreciate hints where and what for to look in a registry, and ideas for possible fix. That is not an Internet Explorer problem (I don't even run it) — it happens in all applications. Neither Ctrl-C/Ctrl-V nor context menu right-click Copy-Paste (actually, nothing happens on Copy, so there is nothing in a clipboard to Paste) are working. Drag-and-Drop (where supported) continues working though.

• CCNet: "Failing Tasks : FilteredSourceControl: CheckForModifications" error

  I've installed CCNet and now I'm trying to set up a link to our repository. When I visit the CCNet dashboard website the project shows up ok, but when I click the Force button I receive this error in the messages column: Failing Tasks : FilteredSourceControl: CheckForModifications If I log into the server as the account which I've specified CCNet should use to connect to the repository, and do an Update on the project by hand (i.e. using SVN.exe or TortoiseSVN) the update works fine. My sourcecontrol section of the CCNet.config file is below. <sourcecontrol type="filtered"> <sourceControlProvider type="svn" autoGetSource="true"> <executable>E:\SVNServer\bin\svn.exe</executable> <trunkUrl> https://bserver.int:4443/trunk </trunkUrl> <workingDirectory>E:\buildserver</workingDirectory> <username>USER</username> <password>PASSWORD</password> </sourceControlProvider> <inclusionFilters> <pathFilter> <pattern>**/*.*</pattern> </pathFilter> </inclusionFilters> </sourcecontrol> Both the cruisecontrol.net website and google seem utterly devoid of any information on this error, other than that it probably relates to the inclusionfilter section in the block above. • SQL Server "Long running transaction" performance counter: why no workee?

  Please explain to me the following observation: I have the following piece of T-SQL code that I run from SSMS: BEGIN TRAN SELECT COUNT (*) FROM m WHERE m.[x] = 123456 or m.[y] IN (SELECT f.x FROM f) SELECT COUNT (*) FROM m WHERE m.[x] = 123456 or m.[y] IN (SELECT f.x FROM f) COMMIT TRAN The query takes about twenty seconds to run. I have no other user queries running on the server. Under these circumstances, I would expect the performance counter "MSSQL$SQLInstanceName:Transactions\Longest Transaction Running Time" to rise constantly up to a value of 20 and then drop rapidly. Instead, it rises to around 12 within two seconds and then oscillates between 12 and 14 for the duration of the query after which it drops again. According to the MS docs, the counter measures "The length of time (in seconds) since the start of the transaction that has been active longer than any other current transaction." But apparently, it doesn't. What gives?

  Using ADK for Windows 8.1, and the DISM cmdlets that come with them. I have WMF 4.0 installed. Update Forgetting I had this problem, I went to mount a wim using the Powershell ISE and actuallygot a visual error message about "C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\8.1\Assessment and Deployment Kit\Deployment Tools\x86\DISM\api-ms-win-downlevel-advapi32-l4-1-0.dll" not being installed. After checking that the dll did in fact exist in the folder I called regsvr32 and received another error message Will try reinstalling as recommended.

• XAML Deserialization problem

  Hi, I have a block of XAML of which i'm trying to deserialize. For arguments sake lets say it looks like below. <NS:SomeObject> <NS:SomeObject.SomeProperty> <NS:SomeDifferentObject SomeOtherProp="a value"/> </NS:SomeObject.SomeProperty> </NS:SomeObject> Of which i deserialise using the following code. XamlReader.Load( File.OpenRead( @"c:\SomeFile.xaml")) I have 2 solutions, one i use Unit Testing, and another i have for my web application. When i'm using the unit testing solution, it deserializes fine and works as expected. However, when i try to deserialize using my other project i keep getting an exception like the following. 'NameSpace.SomeObject' value cannot be assigned to property 'SomeProperty' of object 'NameSpace.SomeObject'. Object of Type 'NameSpace.SomeObject' cannot be converted to type 'NameSpace.SomeObject'. It's as if it is getting confused or instantiating 2 different types of objects? Note, i do not have similarly named classes or any sort of namespace conflict. The same codes executes fine in one solution and not the other. The same project files are referenced in both. Please help!

• Can't download updates for reinstalled Office 2000 on WinXP OS "expected version not found" error message

  I replaced HD and reinstalled WinXP Pro and successfully downloaded all of the service packs and security updates. I've reinstalled my licensed version of Office 2000 (upgrade version from Office 97). The software installs and is functional; but when trying to install updates SR-1 or SR-1a or any individual security update I get error message "expected version of product not found". Microsoft no longer provides support for this legacy version of office. I can't find any support documents in Microsoft's database that addresses this issue. This is my sister's computer and I've already come out-of-pocket $100 for hardware (not counting the $$hours of labor). She only uses MS Word for minimal correspondence. No desire to spend $100+ for new version of Office. I would greatly appreciate any suggested fixes for this problem.

Verify the parameter exists on the task, and it is a settable public instance property. • Referencing .NET Assembly in VB6 won't work

  I wrote a .net assembly using c# to perform functions that will be used by both managed and unmanaged code. I have a VB6 project that now needs to use the assembly via COM. I created my .net assembly, made sure that ComVisible is set to true and that it is registered for COM interop via project properties. public class MyClass [ComVisible(true)] public string GetResponse() { return "Testing Response" } } I build the assembly and copied the file into a folder. TestInterop.dll I then run a batch file to register the assembly tool to register the object for COM. cd C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\ regasm "c:\Program Files\TestApp\TestInterop.dll" /tlb:TestInterop.tlb I open a new VB6 application and reference TestInterop.dll In VB6 I write the following code and it compiles. Dim obj as TestInterop.MyClass Set obj = new TestInterop.MyClass Dim strTest as string strTest = obj.GetRespose() When I run the program it errors on the obj.GetResponse() line. Run-time error' -2147024894 (80070002'): Automation error The system cannot find the file specified Also, the intellesense does not work on obj. I had to type the GetResponse method. Is this normal? Does anyone have any clue what could be wrong or what steps I missed. Thanks!

• Hybrid Shutdown in Windows 8

  Referring to this article published September 8, 2011, it gives instructions on how to to do a full (non-hybrid) shutdown in Windows 8 from the command line. We have an option in the UI to revert back to the Windows 7 shutdown/cold boot behavior, or since that’s likely a fairly infrequent thing, you can use the new /full switch on shutdown.exe. From a cmd prompt, run: shutdown /s /full / t 0 to invoke an immediate full shutdown. shutdown /s /full /t 0 I tried this in W8 Enterprise RTM trial, but did not work, so I did a shutdown /? and noticed they have changed the command for a Full shutdown It appears the /s switch now does the full shutdown as explained in the MS article, and the /hybrid switch does the hybrid shutdown for fast startup. • [iPhone] dyld: Library not loaded - When app run from the command line

  Hi, I face some difficulties when adding a framework to my project when i run an iPhone app from the command line. My final goal is to run applications tests from an automated build process. When i run my app from xCode : I add a "Copy File" build phase to my target and everything goes fine. The copy is set to $(BUILT_PRODUCTS_DIR) as "Absolute path" When i run my app from the terminal (using iphonesim project) i get this error : dyld: Library not loaded: @rpath/OCMock.framework/Versions/A/OCMock UIKitApplication:indemnisation[0xb894][26380] Referenced from: /Users/Admin/Library/Application Support/iPhone Simulator/User/Applications/CD5729B5-A674-49B2-91F6-AD398094B6F8/indemINT.app/indemINT What i dont understand is that the copy build phase just copies the framework files in the same directory that the app. When i run the app from the command line the framework files are already in the same directory. Does anyone knows why it doesn't work ? I've also tried to add the OCMock.framework in the following directories (without success) : /Developer/Platforms/iPhoneSimulator.platform/Developer/SDKs/iPhoneSimulator3.0.sdk/System/Library /Library/Frameworks /Users/Admin/Library/Application Support/iPhone Simulator/User/Applications/CD5729B5-A674-49B2-91F6-AD398094B6F8 Thanks in advance, Vincent.

• Microsoft Word RTF formatting breaks after pasting in HTML and saving

  I have developed an HTML e-campaign which uses tables and all the ugly stuff required for HTML emails. I'm pasting this via Open File ( I paste the URL ) and it retrieves the resources ( images ) and pastes the layout in MS Word. When I go and save this as an RTF, close Word and reopen the RTF, the images are broken. Anyone have a clue as to how to work around this issue? I can confirm 100% that the image resource is VALID, it's through http and NOT https. I've tried various advanced options relating to tables/formatting and all to no avail.

  I moved the styles and templates xaml files form my application (.exe) project to a library project (.dll) because I want to use them in multiple applications. In App.xaml I have: <Application.Resources> <ResourceDictionary> <ResourceDictionary.MergedDictionaries> <ResourceDictionary Source="pack://application:,,,/MyApplication.Common;component/Resources/All.xaml" /> </ResourceDictionary.MergedDictionaries> </ResourceDictionary> </Application.Resources> In All.xaml (in the Common assembly) : <ResourceDictionary.MergedDictionaries> <ResourceDictionary Source="Styles.xaml" /> <ResourceDictionary Source="Templates.xaml" /> <ResourceDictionary Source="Converters.xaml" /> </ResourceDictionary.MergedDictionaries> With this code keyless styles in Styles.xaml aren't applied. • AssemblyLoadException in postsharp, problem with arguments from referenced DLLs?

  I'm just starting out with postsharp/AOP. I want to make some instrumentation for C# to track the usage of some addins that I write for a peice of software. I am trying to use the OnMethodBoundaryAspect class to take note of the values of some of the parameters when the method is called. Those parameters are types which are referenced in an external DLL. When I add my attribute to the method, the project won't build, I get the following error Error 2 Unhandled exception (2.0.5.1204, 64 bit, CLR 2.0, Release): PostSharp.CodeModel.AssemblyLoadException: Error while loading the assembly "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Revit Structure 2011\Program\RevitAPI.dll": Could not load file or assembly 'revitapi, Version=0.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies. Operation is not supported. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131515) The REvitAPI.dll is the file with the type in it. I've also tested just adding the attribute to the project but not applying it to any methods, this also causes the error. So it appears its not related to the method parameter types itself, but merely the existence of this DLL. Has anyone come across this issue before, or can anyone point me in the right direction of where to get some more info on this?
