  • MySQL query to order by parent then child places

    - by Swanny
I have a table of pages in my database, each page can have a parent as below: id parent_id title 1 0 Home 2 0 Sitemap 3 0 Products 4 3 Product 1 5 3 Product 2 6 4 Product 1 Review Page What would be the best MySQL query to select all pages ordered by parent then child then child again if there is more than one level, there will be a maximum of three levels. The above example would produce the desired order: Home Sitemap Products Product 1 Product 1 Review Page Product 2

  • Conditionally Summing the same Column multiple times in a single select statement?

    - by btollett
    I have a single table that shows employee deployments, for various types of deployment, in a given location for each month: ID | Location_ID | Date | NumEmployees | DeploymentType_ID As an example, a few records might be: 1 | L1 | 12/2010 | 7 | 1 (=Permanent) 2 | L1 | 12/2010 | 2 | 2 (=Temp) 3 | L1 | 12/2010 | 1 | 3 (=Support) 4 | L1 | 01/2011 | 4 | 1 5 | L1 | 01/2011 | 2 | 2 6 | L1 | 01/2011 | 1 | 3 7 | L2 | 12/2010 | 6 | 1 8 | L2 | 01/2011 | 6 | 1 9 | L2 | 12/2010 | 3 | 2 What I need to do is sum the various types of people by date, such that the results look something like this: Date | Total Perm | Total Temp | Total Supp 12/2010 | 13 | 5 | 1 01/2011 | 10 | 2 | 1 Currently, I've created a separate query for each deployment type that looks like this: SELECT Date, SUM(NumEmployees) AS "Total Permanent" FROM tblDeployment WHERE DeploymentType_ID=1 GROUP BY Date; We'll call that query qSumPermDeployments. Then, I'm using a couple of joins to combine the queries: SELECT qSumPermDeployments.Date, qSumPermDeployments.["Total Permanent"] AS "Permanent" qSumTempDeployments.["Total Temp"] AS "Temp" qSumSupportDeployments.["Total Support"] AS Support FROM (qSumPermDeployments LEFT JOIN qSumTempDeployments ON qSumPermDeployments.Date = qSumTempDeployments.Date) LEFT JOIN qSumSupportDeployments ON qSumPermDeployments.Date = qSumSupportDeployments.Date; Note that I'm currently constructing that final query under the assumption that a location will only have temp or support employees if they also have permanent employees. Thus, I can create the joins using the permanent employee results as the base table. Given all of the data I currently have, that assumption holds up, but ideally I'd like to move away from that assumption. So finally, my question. Is there a way to simplify this down to a single query or is it best to separate it out into multiple queries - if for no other reason that readability.

  • Heterogeneous queries require the ANSI_NULLS

I wrote a trigger. This ensures consistent query semantics. Enable these options and then reissue your query.** Then I ofcourse SET SET ANSI_WARNINGS is ON but it`s not work for me. (trigger fo linked server postgresql) I have restarted a server. not work again.

  • How to select all parent objects into DataContext using single LINQ query ?

    - by too
I am looking for an answer to a specific problem of fetching whole LINQ object hierarchy using single SELECT. At first I was trying to fill as much LINQ objects as possible using LoadOptions, but AFAIK this method allows only single table to be linked in one query using LoadWith. So I have invented a solution to forcibly set all parent objects of entity which of list is to be fetched, although there is a problem of multiple SELECTS going to database - a single query results in two SELECTS with the same parameters in the same LINQ context. For this question I have simplified this query to popular invoice example: public static class Extensions { public static IEnumerable<T> ForEach<T>(this IEnumerable<T> collection, Action<T> func) { foreach(var c in collection) { func(c); } return collection; } } public IEnumerable<Entry> GetResults(AppDataContext context, int CustomerId) { return ( from entry in context.Entries join invoice in context.Invoices on entry.EntryInvoiceId equals invoice.InvoiceId join period in context.Periods on invoice.InvoicePeriodId equals period.PeriodId // LEFT OUTER JOIN, store is not mandatory join store in context.Stores on entry.EntryStoreId equals store.StoreId into condStore from store in condStore.DefaultIfEmpty() where (invoice.InvoiceCustomerId = CustomerId) orderby entry.EntryPrice descending select new { Entry = entry, Invoice = invoice, Period = period, Store = store } ).ForEach(x => { x.Entry.Invoice = Invoice; x.Invoice.Period = Period; x.Entry.Store = Store; } ).Select(x => x.Entry); } When calling this function and traversing through result set, for example: var entries = GetResults(this.Context); int withoutStore = 0; foreach(var k in entries) { if(k.EntryStoreId == null) withoutStore++; } the resulting query to database looks like (single result is fetched): SELECT [t0].[EntryId], [t0].[EntryInvoiceId], [t0].[EntryStoreId], [t0].[EntryProductId], [t0].[EntryQuantity], [t0].[EntryPrice], [t1].[InvoiceId], [t1].[InvoiceCustomerId], [t1].[InvoiceDate], [t1].[InvoicePeriodId], [t2].[PeriodId], [t2].[PeriodName], [t2].[PeriodDateFrom], [t4].[StoreId], [t4].[StoreName] FROM [Entry] AS [t0] INNER JOIN [Invoice] AS [t1] ON [t0].[EntryInvoiceId] = [t1].[InvoiceId] INNER JOIN [Period] AS [t2] ON [t2].[PeriodId] = [t1].[InvoicePeriodId] LEFT OUTER JOIN ( SELECT 1 AS [test], [t3].[StoreId], [t3].[StoreName] FROM [Store] AS [t3] ) AS [t4] ON [t4].[StoreId] = ([t0].[EntryStoreId]) WHERE (([t1].[InvoiceCustomerId]) = @p0) ORDER BY [t0].[InvoicePrice] DESC -- @p0: Input Int (Size = 0; Prec = 0; Scale = 0) [186] -- Context: SqlProvider(Sql2008) Model: AttributedMetaModel Build: 3.5.30729.1 SELECT [t0].[EntryId], [t0].[EntryInvoiceId], [t0].[EntryStoreId], [t0].[EntryProductId], [t0].[EntryQuantity], [t0].[EntryPrice], [t1].[InvoiceId], [t1].[InvoiceCustomerId], [t1].[InvoiceDate], [t1].[InvoicePeriodId], [t2].[PeriodId], [t2].[PeriodName], [t2].[PeriodDateFrom], [t4].[StoreId], [t4].[StoreName] FROM [Entry] AS [t0] INNER JOIN [Invoice] AS [t1] ON [t0].[EntryInvoiceId] = [t1].[InvoiceId] INNER JOIN [Period] AS [t2] ON [t2].[PeriodId] = [t1].[InvoicePeriodId] LEFT OUTER JOIN ( SELECT 1 AS [test], [t3].[StoreId], [t3].[StoreName] FROM [Store] AS [t3] ) AS [t4] ON [t4].[StoreId] = ([t0].[EntryStoreId]) WHERE (([t1].[InvoiceCustomerId]) = @p0) ORDER BY [t0].[InvoicePrice] DESC -- @p0: Input Int (Size = 0; Prec = 0; Scale = 0) [186] -- Context: SqlProvider(Sql2008) Model: AttributedMetaModel Build: 3.5.30729.1 The question is why there are two queries and how can I fetch LINQ objects without such hacks?

  • Bulk inserting and updating with Entity Framework (Probably a better alternative?)

    - by Dave
    I have a data set of devices, addresses, and companies that I need to import into our database, with the catch that our database may already include a specific device/address/company that is included in the new data set. If that is the case, I need to update that entry with the new information in the data set, excluding addresses. We check if an exact copy of that address exists, otherwise we make a new entry. My issue is that it is very slow to attempt to grab a device/company in EF and if it exist updated it, otherwise insert it. To fix this I tried to get all the companies, devices, and addresses and insert them into respective hashmaps, and check if the identifier of the new data exists in the hashmap. This hasn't led to any performance increases. I've included my code below. Typically I would do a batch insert, I'm not sure what I would do for a batch update though. Can someone advise a different route? var context = ObjectContextHelper.CurrentObjectContext; var oldDevices = context.Devices; var companies = context.Companies; var addresses = context.Addresses; Dictionary<string, Company> companyMap = new Dictionary<string, Company>(StringComparer.OrdinalIgnoreCase); Dictionary<string, Device> deviceMap = new Dictionary<string, Device>(StringComparer.OrdinalIgnoreCase); Dictionary<string, Address> addressMap = new Dictionary<string, Address>(StringComparer.OrdinalIgnoreCase); foreach (Company c in companies) { if (c.CompanyAccountID != null && !companyMap.ContainsKey(c.CompanyAccountID)) companyMap.Add(c.CompanyAccountID, c); } foreach (Device d in oldDevices) { if (d.SerialNumber != null && !deviceMap.ContainsKey(d.SerialNumber)) deviceMap.Add(d.SerialNumber, d); } foreach (Address a in addresses) { string identifier = GetAddressIdentifier(a); if (!addressMap.ContainsKey(identifier)) addressMap.Add(identifier, a); } foreach (DeviceData.TabsDevice device in devices) { // update a device Company tempCompany; Address tempAddress; Device currentDevice; if (deviceMap.ContainsKey(device.SerialNumber)) //update a device deviceMap.TryGetValue(device.SerialNumber, out currentDevice); else // insert a new device currentDevice = new Device(); currentDevice.SerialNumber = device.SerialNumber; currentDevice.SerialNumberTABS = device.SerialNumberTabs; currentDevice.Model = device.Model; if (device.CustomerAccountID != null && device.CustomerAccountID != "") { companyMap.TryGetValue(device.CustomerAccountID, out tempCompany); currentDevice.CustomerID = tempCompany.CompanyID; currentDevice.CustomerName = tempCompany.CompanyName; } if (companyMap.TryGetValue(device.ServicingDealerAccountID, out tempCompany)) currentDevice.CompanyID = tempCompany.CompanyID; currentDevice.StatusID = 1; currentDevice.Retries = 0; currentDevice.ControllerFamilyID = 1; if (currentDevice.EWBFrontPanelMsgOption == null) // set the Panel option to the default if it isn't set already currentDevice.EWBFrontPanelMsgOption = context.EWBFrontPanelMsgOptions.Where( i => i.OptionDescription.Contains("default")).Single(); // link the device to the existing address as long as it is actually an address if (addressMap.TryGetValue(GetAddressIdentifier(device.address), out tempAddress)) { if (GetAddressIdentifier(device.address) != "") currentDevice.Address = tempAddress; else currentDevice.Address = null; } else // insert a new Address and link the device to it (if not null) { if (GetAddressIdentifier(device.address) == "") currentDevice.Address = null; else { tempAddress = new Address(); tempAddress.Address1 = device.address.Address1; tempAddress.Address2 = device.address.Address2; tempAddress.Address3 = device.address.Address3; tempAddress.Address4 = device.address.Address4; tempAddress.City = device.address.City; tempAddress.Country = device.address.Country; tempAddress.PostalCode = device.address.PostalCode; tempAddress.State = device.address.State; addresses.AddObject(tempAddress); addressMap.Add(GetAddressIdentifier(tempAddress), tempAddress); currentDevice.Address = tempAddress; } } if (!deviceMap.ContainsKey(device.SerialNumber)) // if inserting, add to context { oldDevices.AddObject(currentDevice); deviceMap.Add(device.SerialNumber, currentDevice); } } context.SaveChanges();

  • Good strategy for copying a "sliding window" of data from a table?

    - by chiborg
I have a MySQL table from a third-party application that has millions of rows and only one index - the timestamp of each entry. Now I want to do some heavy self-joins and queries on the data using fields other than the timestamp. Doing the query on the original table would bring the database to a crawl, adding indexes to the table is not an option. Additionally, I only need entries that are newer than one week. My current strategy for doing the queries efficiently is to use a separate table (aux_table) that has the necessary indexes. My questions are: Is there another way to do the queries? and if not, How do I update the data in the indexed table efficiently? So far I have found two approaches for updating aux_table: Truncate aux_table and insert the desired data from the original table. Not very efficient because all the indexes must be re-crated. Check for the biggest timestamp in aux_table and insert all entries with a greater or equal timestamp from the original table. Occasionally drop older entries. Only copying entries with greater timestamp leads to dropped entries (because of entries with same timestamp that were inserted into the original table after the last update).

  • count(*) is it really expensive ?

    - by Anil Namde
I have a page where i have 4 tabs displaying 4 different reports based of different tables. Now i get row count of each tabled using select count() from table query and display number of rows available in each table on the tabs. Now with each page post back 5 count() queries are executed (4 to get counts and 1 for pagination) and 1 query for getting report. Now my question is should is count(*) query really expensive that i should keep the row counts (at least which are displayed on tab) in view state of page instead of queering each time? How much expensive it is ?

  • MSDN about stored procedure default return value

    - by Ilya
Hello, Could anyone point exactly where MSDN says thet every user stored procedure returns 0 by default if no error happens? In other words, could I be sure that example code given below when being a stored procedure IF someStatement BEGIN RETURN 1 END should always return zero if someStatement is false and no error occurs? I know that it actually works this way, but I failed to find any explicit statement about this from Microsoft.

  • How to skip all the column names in MySQL when the table has auto increment primary key?

    - by Jian Lin
A table is: mysql> desc gifts; +---------------+-------------+------+-----+---------+----------------+ | Field | Type | Null | Key | Default | Extra | +---------------+-------------+------+-----+---------+----------------+ | giftID | int(11) | NO | PRI | NULL | auto_increment | | name | varchar(80) | YES | | NULL | | | filename | varchar(80) | YES | | NULL | | | effectiveTime | datetime | YES | | NULL | | +---------------+-------------+------+-----+---------+----------------+ the following is ok: mysql> insert into gifts -> values (10, "heart", "heart_shape.jpg", now()); Query OK, 1 row affected (0.05 sec) but is there a way to not specify the "10"... and just let each one be 11, 12, 13... ? I can do it using mysql> insert into gifts (name, filename, effectiveTime) -> values ("coffee", "coffee123.jpg", now()); Query OK, 1 row affected (0.00 sec) but the column names need to be all specified. Is there a way that they don't have to be specified and the auto increment of primary key still works? thanks.

  • How to SELECT DISTINCT Info with TOP 1 Info and an Order By FROM the Top 1 Info

    - by Erin Taylor
I have 2 tables, that look like: CustomerInfo(CustomterID, CustomerName) CustomerReviews(ReviewID, CustomerID, Review, Score) I want to search reviews for a string and return CustomerInfo.CustomerID and CustomerInfo.CustomerName. However, I only want to show distinct CustomerID and CustomerName along with just one of their CustomerReviews.Reviews and CustomerReviews.Score. I also want to order by the CustomerReviews.Score. I can't figure out how to do this, since a customer can leave multiple reviews, but I only want a list of customers with their highest scored review. Any ideas?

  • How to use a getter with a nullable?

    - by Desmond Lost
    I am reading a bunch of queries from a database. I had an issue with the queries not closing, so I added a CommandTimeout. Now, the individual queries read from the config file each time they are run. How would I make the code cache the int from the config file only once using a static nullable and getter. I was thinking of doing something along the lines of: static int? var; get{ var = null; if (var.HasValue) ...(i dont know how to complete the rest) My actual code: private object ExecuteQuery(string dbConnStr, bool fixIt) { object result = false; using (SqlConnection connection = new SqlConnection(dbConnStr)) { connection.Open(); using (SqlCommand sqlCmd = new SqlCommand()) { AddSQLParms(sqlCmd); sqlCmd.CommandTimeout = 30; sqlCmd.CommandText = _cmdText; sqlCmd.Connection = connection; sqlCmd.CommandType = System.Data.CommandType.Text; sqlCmd.ExecuteNonQuery(); } connection.Close(); } return result; }}

  • I want to run two or more procedures in parallel

    - by binod gyawali
I have list of procedures. All procedures are not dependent upon each other. So, I need to do is, to run the independent procedures in parallel. I have 4 procedures that are to be run parallel. When the procedures are run successfully, now I need to go to the next task. These procedures create about 10 tables. Next task is to execute the set of procedures. I have made one table, where I describe the dependency of these procedures to the tables created above. After any one of the above procedures is completed, I should come to this set of procedures, and find out those procedures whose dependency tables are already created. If any procedure whose dependent tables creation is completed, I need to execute this procedure. Running 4 procedures parallel is done by dts. But, difficulty for me is to transfer the task from the above 4 procedures to the below set of procedures. Please help me to complete my task. Thanks in advance

  • Array not showing in Jlist but filled in console

    - by OVERTONE
Hey there. been a busy debugger today. ill give ths short version. ive made an array list that takes names from a database. then i put the contents of the arraylist into an array of strings. now i want too display the arrays contents in a JList. the weird thing is it was working earlier. and ive two methods. ones just a little practice too make sure i was adding to the Jlist correctly. so heres the key codes. this is the layout of my code. variables constructor methods in my variables i have these 3 defined String[] contactListNames = new String[5]; ArrayList<String> rowNames = new ArrayList<String>(); JList contactList = new JList(contactListNames); simple enough. in my constructor i have them again. contactListNames = new String[5]; contactList = new JList(contactListNames); //i dont have the array list defined though. printSqlDetails(); // the prinSqldetails was too make sure that the connectionw as alright. and its working fine. fillContactList(); // this is the one thats causing me grief. its where all the work happens. // fillContactListTest(); // this was the tester that makes sure its adding to the list alright. heres the code for fillContactListTest() public void fillContactListTest() { for(int i = 0;i<3;i++) { try { String contact; System.out.println(" please fill the list at index "+ i); Scanner in = new Scanner(System.in); contact = in.next(); contactListNames[i] = contact; in.nextLine(); } catch(Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); } } } heres the main one thats supposed too work. public void fillContactList() { int i =0; createConnection(); ArrayList<String> rowNames = new ArrayList<String>(); try { Statement stmt = conn.createStatement(); ResultSet namesList = stmt.executeQuery("SELECT name FROM Users"); try { while (namesList.next()) { rowNames.add(namesList.getString(1)); contactListNames =(String[])rowNames.toArray(new String[rowNames.size()]); // this used to print out contents of array list // System.out.println("" + rowNames); while(i<contactListNames.length) { System.out.println(" " + contactListNames[i]); i++; } } } catch(SQLException q) { q.printStackTrace(); } conn.commit(); stmt.close(); conn.close(); } catch(SQLException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } } i really need help here. im at my wits end. i just cant see why the first method would add to the JList no problem. but the second one wont. both the contactListNames array and array list can print fine and have the names in them. but i must be transfering them too the jlist wrong. please help p.s im aware this is long. but trust me its the short version.

  • Detecting abuse for post rating system

    - by Steven smethurst
I am using a wordpress plugin called "GD Star Rating" to allow my users to vote on stories that I post to one of my websites. http://everydayfiction.com/ Recently we have been having a lot of abuse of the system. Stories that have obviously been voted up artificially. "GD Star Rating" creates some detailed logs when a user votes on a story. Including; IP, Time of vote, and user_adgent, ect.. For example this story has 181 votes with an average of 5.7 http://www.everydayfiction.com/snowman-by-shaun-simon/ Most other stories only get around ~40 votes each day. At first I thought that the story got on to a social bookmarking site Digg, Stumbleupon ect... but after checking the logs I found that this story is getting the same amount of traffic that a normal story gets ~2k-3k. I checked if all the votes for this perpendicular story where coming from a the same IP address. I could see this happening if a user was at a school's computer lab using all their lab computers to vote up this story. Not one duplicate IP address in the log for this story. SELECT ip, COUNT(*) as count FROM wp_gdsr_votes_log WHERE id=3932 GROUP BY (ip ) ORDER BY count DESC Next I thought that a use might be using a proxy to vote up a story. I checked this by grouping all the browser user_agent together to see if there a single browser voting in a perpendicular way. At most 7 users where using a similar browser but voted sporadically (1-5), no evidence of wrong doing. SELECT user_agent, COUNT(*) as count FROM wp_gdsr_votes_log WHERE id=3932 GROUP BY ( user_agent) ORDER BY count DESC I check was to see if all the votes came in at a once. Maybe someone has a really interesting bot that can change the user_adgent and uses proxies, ect... At most 5 votes came with in 2 mins of each other. It doesn't seem to be any regularity on how people vote (IE a 5 vote does not come in once a min) SELECT * FROM wp_gdsr_votes_log WHERE id =3932 AND vote=5 ORDER BY wp_gdsr_votes_log.voted DESC The obvious solution to this problem is to force people to login before they are allowed to vote. But I would prefer to not have to go down that route unless it is absolutely necessary. I'm looking for suggestions on things to test for to detect the abuse.

  • How Can i Create This Complicated Query ?

    - by mTuran
    Hi, I have 3 tables: projects, skills and project_skills. In projects table i hold project's general data. Second table skills i hold skill id and skill name also i have projects_skills table which is hold project's skill relationships. Here is scheme of tables: CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `project_skills` ( `project_id` int(11) NOT NULL, `skill_id` int(11) NOT NULL, KEY `project_id` (`project_id`), KEY `skill_id` (`skill_id`) ) ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=utf8 COLLATE=utf8_turkish_ci; CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `projects` ( `id` int(11) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, `employer_id` int(11) NOT NULL, `project_title` varchar(100) COLLATE utf8_turkish_ci NOT NULL, `project_description` text COLLATE utf8_turkish_ci NOT NULL, `project_budget` int(11) NOT NULL, `project_allowedtime` int(11) NOT NULL, `project_deadline` datetime NOT NULL, `total_bids` int(11) NOT NULL, `average_bid` int(11) NOT NULL, `created` datetime NOT NULL, `active` tinyint(1) NOT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`id`), KEY `created` (`created`), KEY `employer_id` (`employer_id`), KEY `active` (`active`), FULLTEXT KEY `project_title` (`project_title`,`project_description`) ) ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=utf8 COLLATE=utf8_turkish_ci AUTO_INCREMENT=3 ; CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `skills` ( `id` int(11) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, `category` int(11) NOT NULL, `name` varchar(100) COLLATE utf8_turkish_ci NOT NULL, `seo_name` varchar(100) COLLATE utf8_turkish_ci NOT NULL, `total_projects` int(11) NOT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`id`), KEY `seo_name` (`seo_name`) ) ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=utf8 COLLATE=utf8_turkish_ci AUTO_INCREMENT=224 ; I want to select projects with related skill names.
