• Migrating BizTalk 2006 R2 to BizTalk 2010 XLANGs Issue

  When we migrate some BizTalk apps from BizTalk 2006 R2 to BizTalk 2010, and we ran into issue when a .net component called inside the orchestration. In the .net component we are trying to retrieve some promoted property and we also checked in the BizTalk group hub to validate it was promoted, no issues there.  Only when we try to access the data into the .net component we had issue. We just moved all the assembly what we had in BizTalk 2006 R2 to BizTalk 2010, didn’t recompile anything in BizTalk 2010 environment. But looking further there is couple of new namespace added to the Microsoft.XLANGs… in BizTalk 2010 compared to BizTalk 2006 R2 caused the issue. So all we did to fix the issue is recompile the project in 2010 environment and it worked fine. • Unity calendar lens not showing events

  I'm trying to get proper/useful calendar integration into Ubuntu 12.04. I have a Google Calendar (& account) and I want to be able to use this without opening the browser. I want to get the Unity Calendar lens working, so that it shows events coming up, and it allows me a quick way to add new events. However, after installing it, it does not find any events, nor allow me to add a new event. Note that I've installed Lightning 1.4, Evolution mirror 0.2.3, Evolution, and unity-calendar lens. I've also installed Calendar-indicator. I suspect that somehow the lens is not getting the calendar information from thunderbird via evolution. A bit of searching around led me to try this command: /usr/lib/calendar-lens/calendar-lens-daemon.py. • Is there a design pattern for chained observers?

  Several times, I've found myself in a situation where I want to add functionality to an existing Observer-Observable relationship. For example, let's say I have an Observable class called PriceFeed, instances of which are created by a variety of PriceSources. Observers on this are notified whenever the underlying PriceSource updates the PriceFeed with a new price. Now I want to add a feature that allows a (temporary) override to be set on the PriceFeed. The PriceSource should still update prices on the PriceFeed, but for as long as the override is set, whenever a consumer asks PriceFeed for it's current value, it should get the override. The way I did this was to introduce a new OverrideablePriceFeed that is itself both an Observer and an Observable, and that decorates the actual PriceFeed. It's implementation of .getPrice() is straight from Chain of Responsibility, but how about the handling of Observable events? When an override is set or cleared, it should issue it's own event to Observers, as well as forwarding events from the underlying PriceFeed. I think of this as some kind of a chained observer, and was curious if there's a more definitive description of a similar pattern.

  Every once in a while, I get a client PC that won't be able to log into the domain. This morning it was telling us that the trust relationship between the pc and the domain failed. I checked the event logs on the primary domain controller and I see this for 2 PCs (the one that had the problem and one that can log in today). The session setup from the computer failed to authenticate. The name(s) of the account(s) referenced in the security database is . The following error occurred: Access is denied. I know how to fix this, by rejoining the PC to the domain... But why does this happen and how can I prevent it so I don't have to keep rejoining PCs to the domain?

• How can I make pref changes via defaults command happen immediately?

  There are many changes to Finder, Dock, etc. preferences that you can do with the defaults command, i.e. defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool yes However, in order to make the changes take effect, you must quit and relaunch the target app: osascript -e 'tell app "Finder" to quit' When the Finder is quit like this (rather than using the killall command, as some published sources advise), it saves and restores its window placements and disk locations (but not the forward-and-back history associated with each window). Is there some way to make such changes take effect immediately, without quitting the target app? After all, when you make changes in the Dock preference panel, they take effect instantly in the Dock application. Is there some Apple Event that I can send to make the change or make the app reread its prefs?

• how do I make my Dualshock 3 gamepad work in Ubuntu 14.04?

  When my desktop computer was running Ubuntu 12.04, my PS3 controllers would work with USB. I didn't need to do any special setup. I could just plug it in before I start SuperTuxKart and it would recognize it. I can also do this on my laptop (still running 12.04). Since I gave my desktop a fresh install of Ubuntu 14.04, the controller would never work. I have played with some installed software that I found when looking for information. • Virtualised Sharepoint Backup Strategies

  I have a Sharepoint (OSS 2007) farm running on three virtual machines in VMWare ESX, plus a SQL Server backend on physical hardware. During a recent Business Continuity Planning event I tried restoring the sharepoint farm with only the config and content databases, and failed to get things working. My plan was to build a new sharepoint server, then attach this to a restoration config database and install the Central Management site on this server, then reattach the content databases. This failed at the Central Management part of the plan. So I am back to the drawing board on the best strategy for backup and recovery, with reducing the time and complexity of the restore job the main objective. I haven't been able to find much in the way of discussion of backup/restore strategies for Sharepoint in a VMWare environment, so I figured I'd see if anyone on server fault has any ideas or experience.

• New Source Database Added for EBS 12 + 11gR2 Transportable Tablespaces

  The Transportable Tablespaces (TTS) process was originally certified for the migration of E-Business Suite R12 databases going from a source database of 11gR1 or 11gR2 to a target of 11gR2. This requirement has now been expanded to include a source database of 10gR2 (10.2.0.5) - this will potentially save time for existing 10gR2 customers as they can remove on a crucial upgrade step prior to performing the platform migration. The migration process requires an updated Controlled patch delivered by the Oracle E-Business Suite Platform Engineering team, i.e. it requires a password obtainable from Oracle Support. We released the patch in this manner to gauge uptake, and help identify and monitor any customer issues due to the nature of this technology. This patch has been updated to now include supporting 10gR2 as a source database. Does it meet your requirements?Note that for migration across platforms of the same "endian" format, users are advised to use the Transportable Database (TDB) migration process instead for large databases. The "endian-ness" target platforms can be verified by querying the view V$DB_TRANSPORTABLE_PLATFORM using SQL*Plus (connected as sysdba) on the source platform:SQL>select platform_name from v$db_transportable_platform;If the intended target platform does not appear in the output, it means that it is of a different endian format from the source. Consequently. database migration will need to be performed via Transportable Tablespaces (for large databases) or export/import.The use of Transportable Tablespaces can greatly speed up the migration of the data portion of the database. However, it does not affect metadata, which must still be migrated using export/import. We recommend that users initially perform a test migration on their database, using export/import with the 'metrics=y' parameter. This will help identify the relative amounts of data and metadata, and provide a basis for assessing likely gains in timing. In general, the larger the amount of data (compared to metadata), the greater the reduction in downtime that can be expected from using TTS as a migration process. For smaller databases or for those that have relatively small data compared to metadata, TTS will not be as beneficial for cross endian migration and the use of export/import (datapump) for the whole database is recommended. However, i am trying to identify which mole, rat in my case, is popping up and place a CCSprite above that. Initially this looked like an easy task but i am failing. I am trying to NSLog LEFT HIT. i would guess the problem is in the If-statement and the last "227" height parameter. The left rat boundingBox = {{99.5, 146.5}, {165, 227}} (from NSLog). • What software can I use to pinpoint why Windows Server 2003 takes 15 seconds for any operation?

  Ram is about 1/2 in use, four CPUs are all but idle. I tried "Microsoft Server Performance Advisor" with no luck. No entries in the Event Log for hardware failures, etc. And yet I can click on the start menu and wait 15 seconds for any new attempt. Launching software takes 30 seconds to respond. The server has an 8 drive WD RE 250 gig each Dell Perc 6 Sata raid array with Intel gigabit network cards. Anyone have any software titles that could analyze what is going wrong with this server?

• Implementing a multilanguage AI contest platform

  This is a followup to this question. To sum: I'm implementing an AI contest site, where each user may submit several AI implementations for different games. Think about Google AI Challenge but instead of just having a big event once a year, I would like it more on a league fashion, with all virtual players playing with each other every some close period of time. I want to support as many programming languages as possible. I've seen that contest sites (like codeforces) ask you to submit a source code and interact through stdin and stdout. The first question is: what is the best way of supporting multiple languages? As I see it, I can either ask people to upload some binary/script, and interact either through stdin/*stdout*, or sockets, or the file system; or ask people to submit source code, and wrap it with whatever is necessary for the interaction. I would like to skip the need to compile the code by myself (in the server, I mean), but I am willing to do it if its the "best" choice. I need to comunicate virtual players with each other, or even better, with some intermediary arbiter. The second question is regarding security. If I'm going to be running user code in my server, I want to ensure strict security conditions, like no file system access, no networking, etc. Otherwise it would be a safe heaven for hackers. I will be implementing the engine/arbiter in .NET. I would like to support at least C#, C++, Java and Python for the user's implementations. I'm willing to write interfaces for each of these languages to simplify the user interaction with the system. Thanks in advance.

• How do I capture a 10053 trace for a SQL statement called in a PL/SQL package?

  Traditionally if you wanted to capture an Optimizer trace (10053) for a SQL statement you would issue an alter session command to switch on a 10053 trace for that entire session, and then issue the SQL statement you wanted to capture the trace for. Once the statement completed you would exit the session to disable the trace. You would then look in the USER_DUMP_DEST directory for the trace file. But what if the SQL statement you were interested  in was actually called as part of a PL/SQL package? Oracle Database 11g, introduced a new diagnostic events infrastructure, which greatly simplifies the task of generating a 10053 trace for a specific SQL statement in a PL/SQL package. All you will need to know is the SQL_ID for the statement you are interested in. Instead of turning on the trace event for the entire session you can now switch it on for a specific SQL ID. Oracle will then capture a 10053 trace for the corresponding SQL statement when it is issued in that session. Remember the SQL statement still has to be hard parsed for the 10053 trace to be generated.  Let's begin our example by creating a PL/SQL package called 'cal_total_sales'. The SQL statement we are interested in is the same as the one in our original example, SELECT SUM(AMOUNT_SOLD) FROM SALES WHERE CUST_ID = :B1. We need to know the SQL_ID of this SQL statement to set up the trace, and we can find in V$SQL. We now have everything we need to generate the trace. • windows service application run fine on windows XP but crashes on windows7

• Business Strategy - Google Case Study

  Business strategy defined by SMBTN.com is a term used in business planning that implies a careful selection and application of resources to obtain a competitive advantage in anticipation of future events or trends. In more general terms business strategy is positioning a company so that it has the greatest competitive advantage over others in the markets and industries that they participate in. This process involves making corporate decisions regarding which markets to provide goods and services, pricing, acceptable quality levels, and how to interact with others in the marketplace. Google utilizes custom high-performance systems which are cost efficient because they can scale to extreme workloads. This hardware allows for a huge cost advantage over its competitors. In addition, InformationWeek.com interviewed Stephen Arnold who stated that Google’s programmers are 50%-100% more productive compared to programmers working for their competitors.  He based this theory on Google’s competitors having to spend up to four times as much just to keep up. In addition to Google’s technological advantage, they also have developed a decentralized management schema where employees report directly to multiple managers and team project leaders. This allows for the responsibility of the technology department to be shared amongst multiple senior level engineers and removes the need for a singular department head to oversee the activities of the department.  This is a unique approach from the standard management style. Typically a department head like a CIO or CTO would oversee the department’s global initiatives and business functionality.  This would then be passed down and administered through middle management and implemented by programmers, business analyst, network administrators and Database administrators. It goes without saying that an IT professional’s responsibilities would be directed by Google’s technological advantage and management strategy.  Simply because they work within the department, and would have to design, develop, and support the high-performance systems and would have to report multiple managers and project leaders on a regular basis. Since Google was established and driven by new and immerging technology, all other departments would be directly impacted by the technology department.  In fact, they would have to cater to the technology department since it is a huge driving for in the success of Google. • Problem with OWA search. Mailstore catalogues

  Dear All, I have trawled for the last few days but have not been able to come up with a solution; any help would be much appreciated. Exchange 2007 STD on Windows 2003 64Bit and users report search not working in OWA. So I first check indexing is enabled on the mail stores Get-MailboxDatabase |ft Name,IndexEnabled which all report true, So I try a test Test-ExchangeSearch [email protected] Which is a false -1 Ok, So I run the reset - resetsearchindex.ps1 this works and the event log reports the stores being crawled and finished. BUT- My complete catalogue data is 300kb - LOL! I wish! Obviously all tests fail so I do it manually; Stop indexing service, Delete catalogues. Restart Still no dice, This is where I’m up to, I have tried many different variations of the above and being through oodles of MS documentation Has anyone got any ideas?

  Today I got an e-mail from logcheck informing me that the following system event occurred. http: getaddrinfo*.gaih_getanswer: got type "46" Indeed, the above message occurs 4 times in /var/log/aut.log it occured twice yesterday around 6:46 am. And this morning it also occured twice around the same time. I wonder what this message means and if this message is something to worry about or if should just tell logcheck to ignore it. If it is something to worry about, then any pointers on how to fix the problem are appreciated.

• Is throwing an error in unpredictable subclass-specific circumstances a violation of LSP?

  Say, I wanted to create a Java List<String> (see spec) implementation that uses a complex subsystem, such as a database or file system, for its store so that it becomes a simple persistent collection rather than an basic in-memory one. (We're limiting it specifically to a List of Strings for the purposes of discussion, but it could extended to automatically de-/serialise any object, with some help. We can also provide persistent Sets, Maps and so on in this way too.) So here's a skeleton implementation: class DbBackedList implements List<String> { private DbBackedList() {} /** Returns a list, possibly non-empty */ public static getList() { return new DbBackedList(); } public String get(int index) { return Db.getTable().getRow(i).asString(); // may throw DbExceptions! } // add(String), add(int, String), etc. ... } My problem lies with the fact that the underlying DB API may encounter connection errors that are not specified in the List interface that it should throw. My problem is whether this violates Liskov's Substitution Principle (LSP). Bob Martin actually gives an example of a PersistentSet in his paper on LSP that violates LSP. The difference is that his newly-specified Exception there is determined by the inserted value and so is strengthening the precondition. In my case the connection/read error is unpredictable and due to external factors and so is not technically a new precondition, merely an error of circumstance, perhaps like OutOfMemoryError which can occur even when unspecified. In normal circumstances, the new Error/Exception might never be thrown. (The caller could catch if it is aware of the possibility, just as a memory-restricted Java program might specifically catch OOME.) Is this therefore a valid argument for throwing an extra error and can I still claim to be a valid java.util.List (or pick your SDK/language/collection in general) and not in violation of LSP? If this does indeed violate LSP and thus not practically usable, I have provided two less-palatable alternative solutions as answers that you can comment on, see below. Footnote: Use Cases In the simplest case, the goal is to provide a familiar interface for cases when (say) a database is just being used as a persistent list, and allow regular List operations such as search, subList and iteration. Another, more adventurous, use-case is as a slot-in replacement for libraries that work with basic Lists, e.g if we have a third-party task queue that usually works with a plain List: new TaskWorkQueue(new ArrayList<String>()).start() which is susceptible to losing all it's queue in event of a crash, if we just replace this with: new TaskWorkQueue(new DbBackedList()).start() we get a instant persistence and the ability to share the tasks amongst more than one machine. In either case, we could either handle connection/read exceptions that are thrown, perhaps retrying the connection/read first, or allow them to throw and crash the program (e.g. if we can't change the TaskWorkQueue code).

• Configuring Transmission for faster download

  I have tested on the same PC with the same torrent/magnet links the following Torrent Clients: Transmission Ktorrent Deluge qBittorrent Vuze After 7 days of testing I noticed that the only one that took longer to start downloading and to keep an optimum/max download speed was Transmission. It was the slowest of them all to download the same torrents or magnet links which I tested 8 torrents and 4 magnet links from different sites and the one that took the most to start downloading or start after a pause/resume event. The other 4 just took less than 2 seconds for example to start downloading and to download the same content between 50% less time to 80% less time. I think that Transmission has the same capabilities about downloading/resuming than the other torrent clients but it may be because of some configuration I need to do to get the same speed and effect than the others. In my tests all torrent clients were tested with their default configurations. No changes were made. They were tested on the same PC, with the same network connection in the same time periods. So I am thinking that Transmission just needs a little bit of configuration tunning. I also set the ports for use to the same one for each. Checked the router for any blocking and anything related to the network. What options can I change to make it so Transmission resumes a download faster (grabs the seeds faster) and keeps a fast download all the time (Stays with the seeds that offer the best connection for example). Both of which by the look of it are features that the rest of the torrent clients do already.
