• Vlad the deployer on Dreamhost - initial script

  Hi, I'm trying to deploy an app with SVN and Vlad the deployer. Vlad and its dependencies are installed and seem OK. I'm trying the following: rake prod vlad:update Being my config/deploy.rb file: task :prod do set :application, "xxx" set :deploy_timestamped, "false" set :user, "username" set :scm_user, "scmusername" set :repository, "http://domain.com/svn/app" set :domain, "domain.com" set :deploy_to, "/home/username/deployments/app" puts "Production deployment to #{deploy_to}" end I have done "rake prod vlad:setup" already, that's fine. But when calling "rake prod vlad:update", I get the following A ...file Exported revision 14. ln: creating symbolic link `/home/username/deployments/drupalgestalt/releases/20100503164225/public/system' to `/home/username/deployments/drupalgestalt/shared/system': No such file or directory rake aborted! execution failed with status 1: ssh domain.com ln -s /home/username/deployments/app/shared/log /home/username/deployments/app/releases/20100503164225/log && ln -s /home/username/deployments/app/shared/system /home/username/deployments/app/releases/20100503164225/public/system && ln -s /home/username/deployments/app/shared/pids /home/username/deployments/app/releases/20100503164225/tmp/pids Apparently it complains when creating the ln, but permissions are all set up fine. Am I doing anything wrong? I'm just starting with Vlad on the assumption it was super-easy to set up. Had played a bit with cap in the past, and I do like Vlad idea.

• Android Apps not working in emulator

  None of my apps work in the emulator. I am running Ubuntu 9.10 and everytime I try to access my UI, the app crashes. All I get is an "Sorry! The application ... has stopped unexpectedly".   I have run into a problem which have searched and tried everything i can to find a solution but to no avail. Make sure that the EdmRelationshipAttribute for the relationship has been defined in the assembly. Parameter name: relationshipName.. • ASP.NET: aggregating validators in a user control

  I am developing a web application where I would like to perform a set of validations on a certain field (an account name in the specific case). I need to check that the value is not empty, matches a certain pattern and is not already used. I tried to create a UserControl that aggregates a RequiredFieldValidator, a RegexValidator and a CustomValidator, then I created a ControlToValidate property like this: public partial class AccountNameValidator : System.Web.UI.UserControl { public string ControlToValidate { get { return ViewState["ControlToValidate"] as string; } set { ViewState["ControlToValidate"] = value; AccountNameRequiredFieldValidator.ControlToValidate = value; AccountNameRegexValidator.ControlToValidate = value; AccountNameUniqueValidator.ControlToValidate = value; } } } However, if I insert the control on a page and set ControlToValidate to some control ID, when the page loads I get an error that says Unable to find control id 'AccountName' referenced by the 'ControlToValidate' property of 'AccountNameRequiredFieldValidator', which makes me think that the controls inside my UserControl cannot resolve correctly the controls in the parent page. So, I have two questions: 1) Is it possible to have validator controls inside a UserControl validate a control in the parent page? 2) Is it correct and good practice to "aggregate" multiple validator controls in a UserControl? If not, what is the standard way to proceed?

• Axis2 Class Generation

  I have an instance of a derived class (called Child) that I would like to send between the client and server of my web service. However, the method that might be returning this instance, is marked as returning an instance of the parent class (called Parent). For example: public class Service{public Parent createInstanceOfParentOrChildObject();} While Child is not a parameter anywhere in the service nor is it ever specifically named as a return type (only Parent is ever named), it is nonetheless generated and returned inside certain methods (and then cast to Parent). I generated the wsdl file using Axis2 1.4.1 java2wsdl and specifying that it include this class (using the -xc parameter). I did not use Axis2 1.5.1 because it was not honoring the -xc parameter though it looks like that bug is supposedly fixed in Axis2 1.6. I even did a quick check of the generated .wsdl file to ensure that it did indeed include a definition for Child (and, of course, Parent). However, when I used wsdl2java to generate the server-side (and client-side) code, Child was not generated. How can I get wsdl2java to generate Child? I realize that I could do this by hand but I don't want to have to do this for both the client and server. I was also hoping that I could make this as easy as possible for people to use my wsdl to generate their own clients.

• Java repaint is slow under certain conditions.

  I'm doing a simple grid which each square is highlighted by the cursor: They are a couple of JPanels, mapgrid and overlay inside a JLayeredPane, with mapgrid on the bottom. Mapgrid just draws on initialization the grid, its paint metodh is: public void paintComponent(Graphics g) { super.paintComponent(g); Graphics2D g2d = (Graphics2D) g; g2d.setRenderingHint(RenderingHints.KEY_ANTIALIASING, RenderingHints.VALUE_ANTIALIAS_ON); for (int i = 0; i < h; i++) { for (int j = 0; j < w; j++) { g2d.setColor(new Color(128, 128, 128, 255)); g2d.drawRect(tileSize * j, i * tileSize, tileSize, tileSize); } } In the overlay JPanel is where the highlighting occurs, this is what is repainted when the mouse is moved: public void paintComponent(Graphics g) { super.paintComponent(g); Graphics2D g2d = (Graphics2D) g; g2d.setRenderingHint(RenderingHints.KEY_ANTIALIASING, RenderingHints.VALUE_ANTIALIAS_ON); g2d.setColor(new Color(255, 255, 128, 255)); g2d.drawRect((pointerX/tileSize)*tileSize,(pointerY/ tileSize)*tileSize, tileSize, tileSize); } I noticed that even though the base layer (mapgrid) is NOT repainted when the mouse moves, just the transparent overlay layer, the performance is lacking. If i give the overlay JPanel a background, its way faster. If i remove the mapgrid Antialiasing, its a bit faster too. I don't know why giving a background to the overlay layer (and thus, hiding the mapgrid) or disabling antialiasing in the mapgrid leads to much better performance. Is there a better way to do this? Why does this happen?

  I'm doing some maintenance on an older web application written in Monorail v1.0.3. I want to unit test an action that uses RenderText(). How do I extract the content in my test? Reading from controller.Response.OutputStream doesn't work, since the response stream is either not setup properly in PrepareController(), or is closed in RenderText(). • refactor LINQ TO SQL custom properties that instantiate datacontext

  I am working on an existing ASP.NET MVC app that started small and has grown with time to require a good re-architecture and refactoring. One thing that I am struggling with is that we've got partial classes of the L2S entities so we could add some extra properties, but these props create a new data context and query the DB for a subset of data. This would be the equivalent to doing the following in SQL, which is not a very good way to write this query as oppsed to joins: SELECT tbl1.stuff, (SELECT nestedValue FROM tbl2 WHERE tbl2.Foo = tbl1.Bar), tbl1.moreStuff FROM tbl1 so in short here's what we've got in some of our partial entity classes: public partial class Ticket { public StatusUpdate LastStatusUpdate { get { //this static method call returns a new DataContext but needs to be refactored var ctx = OurDataContext.GetContext(); var su = Compiled_Query_GetLastUpdate(ctx, this.TicketId); return su; } } } We've got some functions that create a compiled query, but the issue is that we also have some DataLoadOptions defined in the DataContext, and because we instantiate a new datacontext for getting these nested property, we get an exception "Compiled Queries across DataContexts with different LoadOptions not supported" . The first DataContext is coming from a DataContextFactory that we implemented with the refactorings, but this second one is just hanging off the entity property getter. We're implementing the Repository pattern in the refactoring process, so we must stop doing stuff like the above. Does anyone know of a good way to address this issue?

  I've read that unmanaged resource are considered file handles, streams, anything low level. Does MSDN or any other source explain how to recognize an unmanaged resource? I can't seem to find any examples on the net that show unmanaged code, all the examples just have comments that say unmanaged code here. Can someone perhaps provide a realworld example where I would handle an unmanaged resources in an IDispose interface? I provided the IDisposable interface for your convience. • Spinner in Android crashing when visibilty changes while handling OnClick in a button

  I have a spinner in UI, which I want to hide when I handle onClick method for a button. But the application is crashing all the time. Is it that I can't use the setVisibility(View.Gone) on spinners (it is not written anywhere). If I comment it out, then application run fine. I am getting NullPointerException and I am using RelativeLayout. • RMI no such object in table, Server communication error

  My goal is to create a Distributed computing program that launches a server and client at the same time. I need it to be able to install on a couple of machines and have all the machines communicating with each other, i.e. Master node and 5 slave nodes all from one application. When adding one more byte 0x18 to the array, the exception raised: InvalidKeyException: Key length not 128/192/256 bits. But the original 18 bytes (from 0 to 17) are not multiple of nither 128, 192 or 256. I would like to understand the math here.. can anyone explain me? Thanks!

(a special number indicating error?) 2) What additional test cases did I miss? 3) Is assertEquals() method enough for testing the multiplier method or do I need other methods like assertTrue(), assertFalse(), assertSame() etc 4) Is this the RIGHT way to go about developing test cases? How am I "exactly" benefiting from this exercise? 5)What should be the ideal way to test the multiplier method? I am pretty clueless here. • WTK emulator bluetooth connection problem

  Hi! I'm developing a J2ME program with eclipse / WTK 2.5.2 and having problem with connecting two emulators using bluetooth. There is one server and one .client running on two different emulators. The problem is client program cannot discover any bluetooth device.   I'm using the android.location.Geocoder for the first time. The Idea is: I have a Listener on a button which takes input from an EditText and resolve the location. Up to now it's debugging phase, so I have no handler taking messages from the thread, only geocoding and write to logcat.   Hello, I'm new to C# and am stuck on the following. I have a Silverlight web service that uses LINQ to query a ADO.NET entity object. e.g.: [OperationContract] public List<Customer> GetData() { using (TestEntities ctx = new TestEntities()) { var data = from rec in ctx.Customer select rec; return data.ToList(); } } This works fine, but what I want to do is to make this more abstract. The first step would be to return a List<EntityObject> but this gives a compiler error, e.g.: [OperationContract] public List<EntityObject> GetData() { using (TestEntities ctx = new TestEntities()) { var data = from rec in ctx.Customer select rec; return data.ToList(); } } The error is: Error 1 Cannot implicitly convert type 'System.Collections.Generic.List<SilverlightTest.Web.Customer>' to 'System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerable<System.Data.Objects.DataClasses.EntityObject>'. • Two classes and inline functions

  I have two classes and both of them uses some of the other class, on example: // class1.h class Class1; #include "class2.h" class Class1 { public: static Class2 *C2; ... }; // class2.h class Class2; #include "class1.h" class Class2 { public: static Class1 *C1; ... }; And when I define it like in example above, it works (I also have some #ifndef to avoid infinite header recurency). But I also want to add some inline functions to my classes. And I read here that I should put definition of inline function in header file, because it won't work if I'll put them in cpp file and want to call them from other cpp file (when I do it I get undefined reference during linking). But the problem here is with something like this: // class1.h ... inline void Class1::Foo() { C2->Bar(); } I get error: invalid use of incomplete type ‘struct Class2’. So how can I do it?

  I am trying to create a web service, my tools of trade are: ** Axis2, Eclipse, Tomcat, Ant ** I need to create a web service from Code, i.e. Write a basic java class which will have the methods to be declared in the WSDL. Then use java2WSDL.sh to create my WSDL. So, is this approach correct: Write my Java class with actual business logic package packageNamel; public class Hello{ public void World(String name) { SOP("Hello" + name); } } Now, when I pass this Hello.java to java2WSDL.sh, this will give me the WSDL. Finally, I will write the services.xml file, and create the Hello.aar with following dir structure: Hello.aar packageName Hello.class META-INF services.xml MANIFEST.MF Hello.WSDL Now, I assume, my service will be deployed when I put the aar in tomcat1/webapps/axis2/WEB-INF/services But, here comes my problem, HOW DO I ACCESS THE METHOD World(String name)???!!, i.e. I am clueless about the client code! In it, they use Castle Windsor for their DI container. One "learning" task I am trying to do is convert this subsystem in this project to use StructureMap. Basically, at Application_Start(), the code news up a Windsor container.   I have a MediaElement that is reporting its position incorrectly and weirdly, but consistently. It seems like when it gets to the last second of the audio (and it's always the last second, regardless if the sound is two seconds or 10), it doesn't update it's position until it finishes.
