• FTS: Searching across multiple fields 'intelligently'

  Hi, I have a SP using FTS (Full Text Search). I want searches across multiple fields, 'intelligently' ranking results based on the weights I assign. Consider a search on a view fetching data from tables: Book, Author and Genre. Now, I want the searcher to be able to do: "Ludlum Fiction", "Robert Ludlum Bourne", "Bourne Ludlum", etc. Unfortunately, the only way I have been able to do that at present is this: http://pastebin.com/fdce11ff This is pretty bad, because I am manually breaking up the search string. I know I am doing this completely the wrong way, but can't figure out the right way to search across multiple fields in FTS. Can somebody help please?

  Let say that I want to populate a list of CustomerViewModel which are built based on Customer Entity Framework model with some fields (like Balance) calculated separately. Below I have code which works for lists - it is implemented in my service layer, but also I want to execute this code when I just get one item from the database and execute is as well in different services where I'm accessing Customers data as well. • [ASP.NET] Problems with error: "Access to the path <path> is denied."

  Hi, I was looking for the the trick to resolve that error (google, stackoverflow.com etc) and every nothing works. I need to dinamically create an .aspx file via the asp.net application. What I've done to try fix it: 1) In the folder's Properties - Security, I've added IUSR_TONY and also IIS_IUSRS and allow them the Full control to the folder. Just to check if that will help. Nope, it won't. 2) in the IIS Manager, I tried to change the Application's Pool Defaults Identity (based on that) I checked all options, with no success I don't know what to do more to fix it. Any ideas ?

  I am currently doing visual c++ for an Internet Explorer toolbar button. I have a registration script file (*.rgs) that defines or maybe register the features of my button inside the Windows registry. My objective is, I want my button to change its *.ico image, based on certain conditions process from my *.cpp file. My problem is, I don't understand, how can I somehow change the *.ico file for my button in real time, during my application is running? For example, IF f = 1, ico_file = green.ico; ELSE ico_file = red.ico; Any idea, that you guys can point to me, how can I change the *.ico file for my Internet Explorer toolbar button while the IE is running.

• Pageview implementation

  Hi everyone I want to add a pageview feature on my current web application. This page view is based on the count of user viewing the page. It must be unique, i.e. I must not view a person's page 10000 times and record it as 10000 views, just record 1 view instead. My question is, should I base my pageview count on IP address? If not, what is/are the best approach in doing this? I know that if the person has logged in to my system, I can simply use the user id stored in the session and check on the record if the user has/hasn't viewed the page and update accordingly. But for "anonymous" viewers, what is the best approach? Thanks. PS How does Youtube does it?

I'm kinda newbie, when it comes to regex (I know, how to get parts of a string, but this one – tough one). So, I need a regex that would search/replace www.domain.tld -> <a href="http://www.domain.tld">http://www.domain.tld</a> With/without http://, preferably. Any advice is welcome. Thanks.

  Do you know of a .NET library for generating javascript code? I want to generate javascript code based on information in my .NET application. I would like to be able to create an AST-like datastructure (using C#) and have it turned into valid javascript. I need to be able to create functions, statements, expressions etc., so I need something more than a JSON serializer - but I guess you could think of this as a (very) generalized JSON serializer. Do such libraries exist and if so, could you recommend any? Thank you.

  Hi, I'm currently launching a programme using subprocess.Popen(cmd, shell=TRUE) I'm fairly new to Python, but it 'feels' like there ought to be some api that lets me do something similar to: subprocess.Popen(cmd, shell=TRUE, postexec_fn=function_to_call_on_exit) I am doing this so that function_to_call_on_exit can do something based on knowing that the cmd has exited (for example keeping count of the number of external processes currently running) I assume that I could fairly trivially wrap subprocess in a class that combined threading with the Popen.wait() method, but as I've not done threading in Python yet and it seems like this might be common enough for an API to exist, I thought I'd try and find one first.   Dear All, I am creating a simple game, where I would like more than one player to be able to connect and play. With regards to a single player game, I am more than comfortable with the coding. I cannot seem to figure out how to connect up more than one player and update their screens when the each player moves. So far I have the players connecting, but I still need to be able update the SharedObject when a player moves, then push it out to the other players. I have searched high and low for a good tutorial / source code to review. Code So Far A tutorial i found so far listened for a click as it was a mouse based movement, then this told the SHaredObject to tell the client (and the others) to update that clients movement. However all of my movement is listend and acted on in the playership class.

• Is it good to use .settings for storing controls text data?

  In my WinForms applications I often put the controls text data (form title, labels texts, button captions, etc.) into a .settings (feature automatically generated by Visual Studio - based on the ApplicationSettingsBase class). In particular, Add a form or a control. In Solution Explorer add a new string item into the application scope of the settings file. Bind the control text property with the corresponding item of the settings file (through the property binding). Good point of this is that all my text data is collected in one place and easy to check and edit. Also it is convenient when I want to use the same text for several controls. However, I haven't heard that somebody uses the .settings such way. In tutorials for creating multilingual applications, for example, it is recommended to enter texts directly into the control property. So, is it good practice to use .settings for storing controls text data? Brief conclusion from the answers: Storing controls text data in the .settings is not common practice.

• Ajax data two-way data binding strategies?

  I'd like to 1) Draw create form fields and populate them with data from javascript objects 2) Update those backing objects whenever the value of the form field changes Number 1 is easy. I have a few js template systems I've been using that work quite nicely. Number 2 may require a bit of thought. A quick google search on "ajax data binding" turned up a few systems which seem basically one-way. They're designed to update a UI based on backing js objects, but don't seem to address the question of how to update those backing objects when changes are made to the UI. Can anyone recommend any libraries which will do this for me? It's something I can write myself without too much trouble, but if this question has already been thought through, I'd rather not duplicate the work.

  I am wondering if there is a framework out there for .NET to help me with sending messages to users. I would love to be able to write all my messages to a single repository. I would then like to be able to send these messages out to a user based on preferences that they set. e.g. I would like to be able to send a Notification A out to user A via email and text message and send Notification B to user B via SMS and IM. Any thoughts on if something like this exists or would I need to write it?

It displays an image based some xml document and an optional parameter "Document" - XML document "RenderingOption" - optional image-rendering ( sharpen, soften ) So: <XMLRenderingWidget Document="xxxxxx"/> The above will render the document once <XMLRenderingWidget Document="xxxxxx" RenderingOption="Sharpen"/> The above will, sometimes render the document once, more oftentimes: Perform the rendering of the document as if no Rendering was set then, re-render the document with the Sharpen option I do the rendering on the PropertyChangedCallback assigned to the property. How do I tell the control to "hey, before doing the rendering, apply the changes on the other properties being set, too" Is this not possible? Should I bundle them up as one property instead?

  Hello, Under Django 1.1.1, I am using several authentication backends such as social-registration for facebook connect and django-emailauth for email based authentication instead of user names. I am curious if the Csrf middleware is an essential security measure as it seems like it sometimes generates problems, especially with facebook connect. My project is rather simple. Each user have a profile which they can fill and a purchase page where they fill the payment for to do purchases. Either of these pages are protected via @login_required.

• Image gallery control for ASP.Net with filtering capabilities

  I'm writing an ASP.Net application which needs to display a large number of thumbnails, preferably in a paginated format. These thumbnails will be stored on the server's hard disk, but will have their filenames listed in a SQL Server database. What I want to do is to be able to filter the images being displayed based on criteria within the database. I've looked at the NotesForGallery control, which I really like, but it doesn't seem to have a way to do that. --if I'm wrong, please correct me. Are there any other image gallery type controls, preferably free, that can do what I need? I'm hoping someone can recommend a control or solution that will point me in the right direction. • Does Android support near real time push notification

  I recently learned about the ability of iPhone apps to receive nearly instantaneous notifications to apps. This is provided in the form of push notifications, a bespoke protocol which keeps an always on data connection to the iPhone and messages binary packets to the app, which pops up alerts incredibly quickly, between 0.5 - 5 seconds from server app send to phone app response time. This is sent as data - rather than SMS - in very very small packets charged as part of the data plan not as incoming messages. I would like to know if using Android there is either a similar facility, or whether it's possible to implement something close to this using Android APIs. To clarify I define similar as: Not an SMS message, but some data driven solution As real time as is possible Is scalable - ie: as the server part of a mobile app, I could notify thousands of app instances in seconds I appreciate the app could be pull based, HTTP request/response style, but ideally I don't want to to be polling that heavily just to check for notification .. besides which it's like drip draining the data plan.

• Any experience on Sitecore CMS using Windows Sharepoint Services?

  Hi guys, I plan to develop a solution based on Sitecore CMS which would allow the client company to manage their documents in a Sharepoint-fashion (versioning, diffs??). Of course, we're after limiting the number of licences required for the project, and the client doesn't yet have licences for MOSS, so we couldn't simply use the Sitecore Sharepoint Connector which from everything I read requires the MOSS installation, and won't work with bare WSS. From what I know Sitecore CMS doesn't version documents as such, but is there a possibility for a workaround? Ideally we'd work with Documents and Files in the same fashion as with normal pages, which enables DIFFs and stuff. Any ideas? Thanks, Marcin B

I want to run apache on sever A to do name based vhost that connects to many tomcat servers. I can run mod_proxy_ajp, only if apache and tomcat are on the same server.   Hello everyone, As a part of an enterprise architecture exercise, i need to find a java-based framework filling these constraints : heavy (i think) load : 5000 concurrent connections widely known : can't be too exotic, the contractors would be too high priced. relatively easy to use : developpement time must be reasonnable must be as compliant as possible with the css/html layout produced by a designer Must look like "web 2.0" from the marketing point of view. What i learned from my limited experience is : jsf : 1, don't know. 2, 3 ok. 4 not ok (at least not without huge effort) wicket : 1, not really. 2, 3 and 4 ok. gwt : 1, don't know. 2, 3 ok. 4 not ok (but more ok than jsf) others : not really "web 2.0" or not really known I'm really junior, so my ideas about those frameworks are probably wrong, that's why i come to you, stackoverflowees.
