• C# Julian Date Parser

- by Jake Pearson
I have a cell in a spreadsheet that is a date object in Excel but becomes a double (something like 39820.0 for 1/7/2009) when it comes out of C1's xls class. I read this is a Julian date format. Can someone tell me how to parse it back into a DateTime in C#? Update: It looks like I might not have a Julian date, but instead the number of days since Dec 30, 1899.

• How do I stop XElement.Save from escaping characters?

- by Daniel I-S
I'm populating an XElement with information and writing it to an xml file using the XElement.Save(path) method. At some point, certain characters in the resulting file are being escaped - for example, > becomes >. This behaviour is unacceptable, since I need to store information in the XML that includes the > character as part of a password. How can I write the 'raw' content of my XElement object to XML without having these escaped?

• .NET Interface with AutoCAD -- SetXData errors.

- by Jerry
I am trying to use the SetXData method on the AutoCAD 2007 COM object, but it is throwing errors. Example Test: public AcadEntity getAcadEntity() { /// ... Basic code to return a single AutoCAD entity... } private void btnTagItem_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { AcadEntity ent = getAcadEntity(); short[] xDataType; string[] xDataStrings; DrawingXData xData = new DrawingXData(); xData.field1 = "Some Text Goes here"; xData.field2 = 1; xData.field3 = 100; xData.field4 = 1509.2; xData.field5 = "More Text"; BuildXData("AutoCad_App_Name", xData, out xDataType, out xDataStrings); ent.SetXData(xDataType, xDataStrings); // This line crashes. } private void BuildXData(string applicationName, DrawingXData xData, out short[] xDataType, out string[] xDataStrings) { List<short> dataTypes = new List<short>(); List<string> dataStrings = new List<string>(); /// Code types... /// 1000 == String up to 255 bytes /// 1001 == Application Name // Set Applicaiton Name dataTypes.Add(1001); dataStrings.Add(applicationName); // Set Application Data dataTypes.Add(1000); dataStrings.Add(xData.field1.ToString()); dataTypes.Add(1000); dataStrings.Add(xData.field2.ToString()); dataTypes.Add(1000); dataStrings.Add(xData.field3.ToString()); dataTypes.Add(1000); dataStrings.Add(xData.field4.ToString()); dataTypes.Add(1000); dataStrings.Add(xData.field5.ToString()); // ... etc. xDataType = dataTypes.ToArray(); xDataStrings = dataStrings.ToArray(); } The error I get is "Invalid argument data in SetXData method". The error code (if this helps anyone) is -2145320939. The main reason I'm posting is because the same code in a very old VB6 application works just fine. I'm stumped.

• How can I define a clojure type that implements the servlet interface?

- by Rob Lachlan
I'm attempting to use deftype (from the bleeding-edge clojure 1.2 branch) to create a java class that implements the java Servlet interface. I would expect the code below to compile (even though it's not very useful). (ns foo [:import [javax.servlet Servlet ServletRequest ServletResponse]]) (deftype servlet [] javax.servlet.Servlet (service [this #^javax.servlet.ServletRequest request #^javax.servlet.ServletResponse response] nil)) But it doesn't compile. The compiler produces the message: Mismatched return type: service, expected: void, had: java.lang.Object [Thrown class java.lang.IllegalArgumentException] Which doesn't make sense to me, because I'm returning nil. So the fact that the return type of the method is void shouldn't be a problem. For instance, for the java.util.Set interface: (deftype bar [#^Number n] java.util.Set (clear [this] nil)) compiles without issue. So what am I doing wrong with the Servlet interface? To be clear: I know that the typical case is to subclass one of the servlet abstract classes rather than implement this interface directly, but it should still be possible to do this. Stack Trace: The stack trace for the (deftype servlet... is: Mismatched return type: service, expected: void, had: java.lang.Object [Thrown class java.lang.IllegalArgumentException] Restarts: 0: [ABORT] Return to SLIME's top level. • Secondary monitor bug: a problem in WPF or in the graphics driver?

- by emddudley
I have discovered a strange bug with my WPF application and I am trying to determine whether it is a problem with WPF or my graphics driver so that I can report it to the appropriate company. I have a Quadro FX 1700 with the latest drivers (197.54) on a Windows XP system, running a .NET 3.5 SP1 application. I have dual monitors, and when I maximize then minimize a child window of the main window on my primary monitor, the child window gets drawn on the secondary monitor as well. It appears in both places. I made a sample application (code is below) which induces this behavior. Start the application and ensure the main window is on your primary monitor. Double-click the main window. A green child window should appear. Click the green child window to maximize. Click the green child window to minimize. Can anyone else reproduce this problem? On my system the green child restores, but then it's drawn on both my primary and secondary monitors, rather than just the primary monitor. App.xaml <Application xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" x:Class="DualMonitorBug.App" StartupUri="Shell.xaml" /> App.xaml.cs using System.Windows; namespace DualMonitorBug { public partial class App : Application { } } Shell.xaml <Window xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" x:Class="DualMonitorBug.Shell" Title="Shell" Height="480" Width="640" MouseDoubleClick="ShowDialog" /> Shell.xaml.cs using System.Windows; using System.Windows.Input; namespace DualMonitorBug { public partial class Shell : Window { public Shell() { InitializeComponent(); } private void ShowDialog(object sender, MouseButtonEventArgs e) { DialogWindow dialog = new DialogWindow(); dialog.Owner = this; dialog.Show(); } } } DialogWindow.xaml <Window xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" x:Class="DualMonitorBug.DialogWindow" Title="Dialog Window" Height="240" Width="320" AllowsTransparency="True" Background="Green" MouseLeftButtonDown="ShowHideDialog" WindowStyle="None" /> DialogWindow.xaml.cs using System.Windows; using System.Windows.Input; namespace DualMonitorBug { public partial class DialogWindow : Window { public DialogWindow() { InitializeComponent(); } private void ShowHideDialog(object sender, MouseButtonEventArgs e) { this.WindowState = (this.WindowState == WindowState.Normal) ? WindowState.Maximized : WindowState.Normal; } } }

• MVC 2 JScript Runtime Error: FormContext is null

- by Kenny
When loading a page in my MVC project, I am getting a JScript runtime error that origininates in the MicrosoftMvcValidation.js file saying that Sys.Mvc.FormContext is null or not an object. The page includes a standard "Add" form and a partial view that shows a list of data items. I have the references to the js files in the master page as follows. What could be causing this and how might I be able to fix it?

• Problem with onRetainNonConfigurationInstance

- by David
I am writing a small app using the Android SDK, 1.6 target, and the Eclipse plug-in. I have layouts for both portrait and landscape mode, and most everything is working well. I say most because I am having issues with the orientation change. One part of the app has a ListView "on top of" another section. That section consists of 4 checkboxes, a button, and some TextViews. That is the portrait version. The landscape version replaces the ListView with a Spinner and rearranges some of the other components (but leaves the ALL resource ids the same). While in either orientation things work like they should. It's when the app switches orientation that things go off. Only 1 of the checkboxes maintains it's state throughout both layout changes. The other three CBs only maintain their state when going from landscape-portrait. I am also having problem getting the ListView/Spinner to correctly set themselves on changing. I am using onRetainNonConfigurationInstance() and creating a custom object that is returned. When I step through the code during a orientation change, the custom object is successfully pulled back out the the ether, and the widgets are being set to the correct values (inspecting them). But for some reason, once the onCreate is done, the checkboxes are not set to true. public class SkillSelectionActivity extends Activity { private Button rollDiceButton; private ListView skillListView; • NSData's writeToFile method failing with server address

- by Ricky
Hi. I am trying to write an NSData object to a directory like so; [myData writeToFile:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@/%@.txt", path, filename] atomically:YES]; I receive no errors or warnings but I am assuming the write fails because the path variable has the format of afp://10.0.0.20/username/Desktop. I am connected to the networked share. Do I need to modify the string or take a different approach here? TIA, Ricky.

• ASP.NET MVC 2.0 JsonRequestBehavior Global Setting

- by beckelmw
ASP.NET MVC 2.0 will now, by default, throw an exception when an action attempts to return JSON in response to a GET request. I know this can be overridden on a method by method basis by using JsonRequestBehavior.AllowGet, but is it possible to set on a controller or higher basis (possibly the web.config)? Update: Per Levi's comment, this is what I ended up using- protected override JsonResult Json(object data, string contentType, System.Text.Encoding contentEncoding) { return Json(data, contentType, JsonRequestBehavior.AllowGet); }

• SSIS package randomly hangs during execution

- by Adam MacLeod
Hi Guys, I am having an ongoing and painful problem with an SSIS package. The package runs every 5 minutes as an SQL Agent Job and every 2-10 days the package will start running and never stop (thus preventing further executions). If I stop the hung job manually it will begin working perfectly again in the next 5 minute interval. The SSIS package is for moving data from an Oracle database to a MSSQL 2005 database. It has 7 steps: Step 1 calls an Oracle Stored Procedure to prepare the temporary tables inside ORACLE Steps 2-6 process the data from the ORACLE tables to the MSSQL tables ORACLE - MSSQL Step 7 calls an Oracle Stored Procedure to clear the ORACLE temporary tables I suspect that the issue is caused by a communications error between the MSSQL server and the ORACLE server. Both the MSSQL database and Agent/package run on one machine with the ORACLE database running over the network. I have enabled logging of the SQL package and after more than 2GB of log file I have captured the instant where the package stops responding: OnPreValidate,ADV-SRV5,NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM,CallistaIntegrationToMonashCRM_delta,{F88F6C45-CFA2-4801-A2F2-DDF03D458A48},{3A1FB1E3-B76D-444D-876B-D1FBBB9BA246},6/06/2010 10:15:01 AM,6/06/2010 10:15:01 AM,0,0x,(null) OnPreValidate,ADV-SRV5,NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM,Address,{c5907799-f918-43da-818a-d4bd7f188367},{3A1FB1E3-B76D-444D-876B-D1FBBB9BA246},6/06/2010 10:15:01 AM,6/06/2010 10:15:01 AM,0,0x,(null) OnInformation,ADV-SRV5,NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM,Address,{c5907799-f918-43da-818a-d4bd7f188367},{3A1FB1E3-B76D-444D-876B-D1FBBB9BA246},6/06/2010 10:15:01 AM,6/06/2010 10:15:01 AM,1074016266,0x,Validation phase is beginning. I can see that the package is hanging during the initialize operation on the Callista connection (ORACLE database). I have not been able to work out a way to either fix this issue or have the package die gracefully (an error to the log would be A-OK with me). Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

• Remove namespace declarations from web service response

- by Fernando
I have a web service that returns a simple object: [System.CodeDom.Compiler.GeneratedCodeAttribute("System.Xml", "2.0.50727.4927")] [System.SerializableAttribute()] [System.Diagnostics.DebuggerStepThroughAttribute()] [System.ComponentModel.DesignerCategoryAttribute("code")] [System.Xml.Serialization.SoapTypeAttribute(Namespace="urn:CHAMADO")] public partial class STRUCCHAMADOOUT : object, System.ComponentModel.INotifyPropertyChanged { private string cODField; private string mSGField; /// <remarks/> public string COD { get { return this.cODField; } set { this.cODField = value; this.RaisePropertyChanged("COD"); } } /// <remarks/> public string MSG { get { return this.mSGField; } set { this.mSGField = value; this.RaisePropertyChanged("MSG"); } } public event System.ComponentModel.PropertyChangedEventHandler PropertyChanged; protected void RaisePropertyChanged(string propertyName) { System.ComponentModel.PropertyChangedEventHandler propertyChanged = this.PropertyChanged; if ((propertyChanged != null)) { propertyChanged(this, new System.ComponentModel.PropertyChangedEventArgs(propertyName)); } } } this class was generated by wsdl.exe, based on a wsdl file provided by the client. This is the web method: [WebMethod(MessageName="CHAMADORequest")] [SoapRpcMethod( Action = "urn:CHAMADO#CHAMADO", RequestNamespace = "urn:CHAMADO", RequestElementName = "CHAMADO", ResponseNamespace = "", ResponseElementName = "return", Use = SoapBindingUse.Literal )] [return: XmlElement("return")] public STRUCCHAMADOOUT CHAMADO(STRUCCHAMADOIN ENTRADA) { STRUCCHAMADOOUT result = new STRUCCHAMADOOUT(); try { string str = Util.GetRequestXML(); persist(getResult<Entidades.Chamado>(str, "ENTRADA", string.Empty)); result.COD = "1"; result.MSG = "Operação realizada com sucesso"; } catch (Exception ex) { result.COD = "0"; result.MSG = ex.Message + Environment.NewLine + ex.StackTrace; } return result; } The client is saying that his system is raising an error because the service response has namespaces declaration, just like this: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes" ?> <CHAMADOResponse xmlns="urn:CHAMADO" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:soap="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/"> <return xmlns=""> <COD xmlns="urn:CHAMADO">1</COD> <MSG xmlns="urn:CHAMADO">Operação realizada com sucesso</MSG> </return> </CHAMADOResponse> Now, I managed to remove the namespaces from COD and MSG by applying the attriute WebServiceBinding(ConformsTo = WsiProfiles.None) to the service's class and setting ResponseNamespace to an empty string. But CHAMADOResponse still have the namespaces declaration. I'm pretty sure that it should not be done like that. In fact, I don't believe that the namespaces are the problem at all. This project has been hard since the begining, as we had to create services that matched legacy wsdl. My question is: is there a way that I could remove all that namespaces declaration from the web service response?

• Does Java need closures?

- by Bill the Lizard
I've been reading a lot lately about the next release of Java possibly supporting closures. I feel like I have a pretty firm grasp on what closures are, but I can't think of a solid example of how they would make an Object-Oriented language "better". Can anyone give me a specific use-case where a closure would be needed (or even preferred)?

• ie8 breaks with asp.net ajax

Hello, When using asp.net ajax (scriptmanager, timer, updatepanel) with ie8, after certain time (~3h) IE breaks with null object, constructor, or paramArray (depending on the asp.net code). Even with the simplest timer (no ajax, no updatepanel) ie8 still breaks. On every other browser it works fine, and if I code the ajax myself it works. Since google and msdn forums turned up nothing I'm wondering if anybody here has had similar problems with ie8 browser.

Is there an event in WinForms that get's fired when a window is dragged? Or is there a better way of doing what I want: to drop the window opacity to 80% when the window is being dragged around? - by Justin
lets say I have an embedded Excel Spreadsheet on a Microsoft Access form. I call the object frame ExcelFrame and I add a text box on the form called txtA1 and I add a button on the form called cmdInsert I want to type "Hello World" into the text box, click the button and have it appear in the A1 cell on that spreadsheet. What VBA do I use to accomplish this? Thanks
