• How to transfer binary data through multiple http server?

  Well, the question is not intended to be that big. Let me explain the scenario: I have two http servers. server A is accessible to end user by web browser, while server B is internal server which can only be accessed by server A. If server B generate some big jpeg image in local disk, obviously we can't just delivery those path to image to server A and eventually to end user. Then, how to let end user see those image without firstly storing those image data in server A temporarily? I run PHP on server A and perl on server B, but this should not matter. I need a general pattern for implementing this.

• How to connect to the database in Magento?

  I'm trying to build a simple Magento Module that needs to connect to the database at the start of each page request. All tables need to be accessible to it. I've been pulling my hair out trying to understand how to do it. The best I could figure out was that I need to set this in the config.xml file of my module, but exactly what that command is/how it may be used, i haven't been able to figure out. Can someone please guide me or show me how to accomplish this? If not, would it be too bad a practice to include a custom config.php file which connects to the database manually?

  I am developing a social web application in php/mysql, I would like to hear your advice about what would be a better way to implement security. I am planning something like this:- At the presentation level, I restricting the user to see only those items/content he is eligible to see with the rights he is eligible & at the database level, whenever my data is read/ written or updated I verify that the person has rights to such interactions with that part of data. So for each action there is 2 layers of security one at the view level & another at the database level. Would double checking be much overhead ? ofcourse this handles only with the internal security issues ..

• Postgres pg_dump dumps database in a different order every time

  Hello, I am writing a PHP script (which also uses linux bash commands) which will run through test cases by doing the following: I am using a PostgreSQL database (8.4.2)... 1.) Create a DB 2.) Modify the DB 3.) Store a database dump of the DB (pg_dump) 4.) Do regression testing by doing steps 1.) and 2.), and then take another database dump and compare it (diff) with the original database dump from step number 3.) However, I am finding that pg_dump will not always dump the database in the same way. It will dump things in a different order every time. Therefore, when I do a diff on the two database dumps, the comparison will result in the two files being different, when they are actually the same, just in a different order. Is there a different way I can go about doing the pg_dump? Thanks!

I have this PHP Code $T_MEMBER = "INSERT INTO T_MEMBER (MEMBER_IDENTIFIER,LAST_NAME,FIRST_NAME,BIRTH_DATE) VALUES ('$memberID','$last','$first','$birthdate')"; mysql_query($T_MEMBER) or die(mysql_error()); Here are a few examples of what the query looks like if i echo it: INSERT INTO T_MEMBER (MEMBER_IDENTIFIER,LAST_NAME,FIRST_NAME,BIRTH_DATE) VALUES ('2007','Hayes','Karin','1958-30-10') INSERT INTO T_MEMBER (MEMBER_IDENTIFIER,LAST_NAME,FIRST_NAME,BIRTH_DATE) VALUES ('2020','Long','Peggy','1968-29-5') INSERT INTO T_MEMBER (MEMBER_IDENTIFIER,LAST_NAME,FIRST_NAME,BIRTH_DATE) VALUES ('2021','Torres','Diane','1968-30-8') BIRTH_DATE is a date type column.   hi, i have a mysql table for votes. there's am id, a project_id and a vote field (which is 1 if a specific project is voted). now i want to generate a ranking from those entries. is there a way to get the number of votes for each project_id and automatically sort the entries by the number of TRUE votes of a project with a single mysql query?   Mhh, kinda hard to explain with my poor english ;) So, lets say I have an image, doesnt matter what kind of (gif, jpg, png) with 200x200 pixel size (total area 40000 pixels) This image have a background, that can be trasparent, or every color (but i know the background-color in advance). Lets say that in the middle of this image, there is a picture (for keep the example simple lets suppose is a square drawn), of 100x100 pixels (total area 10000 pixels). I need to know the area percentage that the small square fill inside the image. So, in i know the full image size and the background-color, there is a way in php/python to scan the image and retrieve that (in short, counting the pixel that are different from the given background)? In the above example, the result should be 25%

• Dynamically created image doesn't show when <img>'s src is refreshed to point to it

  Hello, I have a javascript function generateGraph() { ... jQuery.get('chart.php?month='+month+'&year='+year); document.getElementById('graph').src = 'charts/'+month+'_'+year+'.png'; ... } which is called onChange. It basically creates, if not exists, or refreshes if already exists, a PNG image (using the first line above) and supposedly displays the generated image (using the second line above). The first line works, but the second one doesn't. Meaning, the image is generated, but the second line can't display the image, unless the page is reloaded, or if the image being referred to already existed before the page was loaded (meaning the 1st line just "refreshed" the image) Any ideas as to why this is and how to fix it? • How to deal with routing when developing a custom CMS in Codeigniter

  Hi All - I’m a recent user of Codeigniter and am developing a simple backend CMS to manage pages. Based on a URL (in this example I have hidden “index.php”) : mysite.com/pagename I would like the system to detect if there is a value of “pagename” in my database, if there is, I need the system to re-route to a custom controller (eg: Pagemaker) and if there is no record called pagename, just do it’s normal thing (i.e. find a controller called pagename) Currently I have: $route['(:any)'] = "pagemaker/create/$1"; whereby all requests are forwarded to my custom function. However I want to change this structure so that if the page does NOT exist in the db, the traditional codeigniter request process is followed. Can anyone offer any advice about how to complete this? Or any advice about routing custom CMS’s in codeigniter in general?

  Hi, I am creating an xml using php and parsing that xml in iphone application code. In description field there is some html tags and text. I am using following line to convert this html tags in to xml tag using CDATA. $response .= '<desc><![CDATA['.trim($feed['fulltext']).']]></desc>'; Now, here my $feed['fulltext'] value is like this <span class="ABC">...text...</span> In xml I am getting following response, <desc><![CDATA[><span class"ABC">...text...</span>]]></desc> You can see here, I am getting an extra greater-than symbol just before the value of $feed['fulltext'] starts.   Magento 1.4 Default Product Details image size is 265x265. All of our product images will be probably 2x taller than wide, and even if we pad them to make them square 265 will be too small to see detail in the image, so we'd like to make the image taller. I found the media.phtml file How would we go about modifying this file/Magento so that the product details page image is 265W x 530H. • Automatically pulling on remote server with Git push?

  Here's what I'm trying to do: I have a GitHub repository, a portion of which I'd like to make web viewable. Right now I've cloned the repository on my own server and it works well, but in order to keep it up to date, I have to manually login and pull the latest changes. I'm not sure if this is the best idea (or the best approach), but I'd like the remote server to automatically pull whenever someone pushes to repository. GitHub makes it easy enough to run a script when someone pushes, but I'm not sure how to pull once someone does that. I was using PHP for simplicity, but just doing something like git pull naturally doesn't work because of permissions. Is this a bad idea or is there another way of achieving what I want to do? This seems like a common set up, but I wasn't sure. Thanks.

• Is is better to store serialized data or raw html in mysql?

  I de-normalized my database, since the application was crawling otherwise, and Im storing a list of categories for each item in the DB as a raw html version, and simply echoing it out in my design. Each category is actually a link, which is include a tag. Naturally, this is abit of a pain, especially if I want to change the look of how the category links are displayed, since I gotta update all the old cached entries. What if I were to store this data as a serialized array instead, and simply unserialize it, and then apply formatting to it in php. Would there be a significant performance decrease over simply echoing out the raw html?

'</a></li>'; } echo "</ul>"; works fine, but its a long list and i would like to split it into ul chunks so that i can make columns. maybe like 5 results per ul. instead of one ul... i tried wrapping in a for statement but then just wound up outputting the results 5 times...oops...

• getting 502 proxy error while parsing

  Iam parsing a page and im getting response from that but after some time i.e. after some of the parsing gets done i get this error from the server - Proxy Error The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server. The proxy server could not handle the request GET /file.php. Reason: Error reading from remote server and after this my parsing fails. I even tried sleep() function but it didnt helped and the error still came. Are they temporarily blocking my ip or what?? What could be the reason for this and how can i parse those pages without getting this error and all ???

• PayPal testing without using Sandbox

  I am developing a website in PHP that accepts PayPal payments. It uses the IPN from PayPal and has a custom payment template etc etc. It all works great through the Sandbox server but when it comes to showing my client, I don't want to have to tell them to login to/create a Sandbox account, create a buyer account and make a payment - he hasn't got time for that and probably won't be able to do it. Therefore, my question is - is there any simple way that I can show my client the PayPal integration in "test mode" without him using the sandbox? I realise that I can set the transaction value to 0.01 and just test on the live PayPal server but that isn't an ideal solution. Cheers! Edit: Just to better explain what I mean, this is what my client sees when he first goes to checkout; As you can see, he has to login to his Sandbox account before then purchasing the item using the buyer email that he sets up. It's just confusing and totally non user-friendly.

• Frameworks And 'traditional' coding

  Hello Sorry if this too open ended for this forum, but here goes. I mostly use languages such as PHP and Javascript without frameworks (e.g Jquery, Drupal, CakePHP). The only real exception to this for me, is Wordpress when 'traditional' coding is slower for building information sites. I've dabbled with several frameworks over the past year and despite everyone else's (seemingly) good experiences with them, I seem to of hit a roadblock. My basic problem is that for the amount of time invested in effectively relearning a language, I don't get a lot in return. Jqeury as an example. There is really very little in that, that I couldn't accomplish easily with a few getElement.. commands. So my question is, what advantages do frameworks offer over previous coding styles? Buy my product !? !? Buy my product !!..!! Buy my product <-- This solution did not work that well: preg_replace('/(\W{2,})(?=\1+)/', '', $title) Any idea how to do it in PHP with regex? Other better solution is also welcomed (I cannot strip all the non-alphanum characters as they can make sense).
