• Entity Framework: Setting EntityReference EntityKey causes exception on save

  I have a table with a ModifiedUserID field that is a foreign key to a User table. In entity framework, I'm loading the first table, but not the users table. I have the user ID of the current user, and would like to set the ModifiedUserID to that value for all entities that have been modified prior to saving. Before calling SaveChanges(), I use the ObjectStateManager to get all modified entities. Since I do not have the user object, but I do have the user ID, I set the EntityReference.EntityKey property as follows: entity.UserReference.EntityKey = New EntityKey("MyContainer.User", "UserID", DatabaseUserID) This works fine, but when I execute SaveChanges(), I receive the following error: A relationship is being added or deleted from an AssociationSet 'FK_Table1_User'. With cardinality constraints, a corresponding 'Table1' must also be added or deleted. Now, I see that setting the EntityReference.EntityKey creates a new AssociationSet entry, but how to I prevent this error?

When I try to do a JPA query like this: "SELECT p FROM Participant p WHERE p.party.id = :partyKey AND p.name=:participantName" I get the following error Caused by: org.datanucleus.store.appengine.FatalNucleusUserException: SELECT FROM Participant p WHERE p.party.id = :partyKey AND p.name=:participantName: Can only reference properties of a sub-object if the sub-object is embedded. I gave the key of the Party object as a parameter to the "partyKey" named parameter. The model is like this: Party has multiple Participants. I want to query a participant based on the party and the name of the participant. I just can't figure out how to filter using the party. What options do I have?

• Cocoa Screensaver Framework error message

  Hi, I'm trying to make a screen saver using the cocoa screensaver framework. The project builds fine and generates the .saver file, but when I try to run it in the preferences test window, it displays the error message: "You cannot use the screen saver with this version of Mac OSX. Please contact the vendor to get a newer version of the screen saver" I have the xcode settings to Release | x86_64, and I am running OSX 10.6.6 on a 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5 Macbook Pro. I've searched around online, and most of the solutions to this error message seem addressed to making sure the build is 64-bit, which the x86_64 setting should indeed take care of. I am trying to play a QT movie in the screensaver, if that makes any difference. I am at a loss, any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

  I'm trying to populate a Drop down list with pharmaceutical companies, like Bayer, Medley etc. And, I'm getting theses names from DB and theses names are repeated in DB, but with different id's. I'm trying to use Linq Distinct(), but I don't want to use the equality comparer. Is there another way? My drop down list must be filled with the id and the name of the company. I'm trying something like: var x = _partnerService .SelectPartners() .Select(c => new {codPartner = c.codPartner, name = c.name}) .Distinct(); This is showing repeated companies in ddl. thanks!

  In my edit.haml file, I have =render :partial => 'old_question_tags', :locals => {:current_question => @question.id}. I'd like to pass the value in :current_question to a link_to_remote call in _old_question_tags.haml: #{link_to_remote image_tag('red-x.png', {:alt => "Remove #{t.name} tag"}), :url => {:action => 'remove_old_tag_from_question', :tag_remove => t.id, :current_question => current_question}} But I get this error on the link_to_remote line: ActionView::TemplateError (undefined local variable or method `current_question' for #<ActionView::Base:0xdb2fec8>) In _old_question_tags.haml, if I just print current_question (using =current_question), it prints the number without any problems. How do I properly pass that value to the partial so that I can pass it to the link_to_remote call?

• asp:Button is not calling server-side function

  Hi guys, I know that there has been much discussion here about this topic, but none of the threads I got across helped me solve this problem. I'm hoping that mine is somewhat unique, and may actually merit a different solution. I'm instantiating an asp:Button inside a data-bound asp:GridView through template fields. Some of the buttons are supposed to call a server-side function, but for some weird reason, it doesn't. All the buttons do when you click them is fire a postback to the current page, doing nothing, effectively just reloading the page.   Please see screenshot Goal: id like to have comments nested 1 level deep The comments would be arranged so that rating of the parent is in descending order the rating of the children comments is irrelevant The left hand side of the screenshot shows the output that Id like. The RHS shows the table data. All of the comments are held in 1 table. Im a beginner with SQL queries, the best I can do is: SELECT * FROM [Comments] WHERE ([ArticleId] = @ArticleId) ORDER BY [ThreadId] DESC, [DateMade] This somewhat does the job, but it obviously neglects the rating. So the above statement would show output where Bobs Comment and all of the children comments are before Amy's and her childrens comments. How can I run this query correctly?

• Count of memory copies in *nix systems between packet at NIC and user application?

  Hi there, This is just a general question relating to some high-performance computing I've been wondering about. A certain low-latency messaging vendor speaks in its supporting documentation about using raw sockets to transfer the data directly from the network device to the user application and in so doing it speaks about reducing the messaging latency even further than it does anyway (in other admittedly carefully thought-out design decisions). My question is therefore to those that grok the networking stacks on Unix or Unix-like systems. How much difference are they likely to be able to realise using this method? Feel free to answer in terms of memory copies, numbers of whales rescued or areas the size of Wales ;) Their messaging is UDP-based, as I understand it, so there's no problem with establishing TCP connections etc. Any other points of interest on this topic would be gratefully thought about!   Went searching and didn't find the answer to this specific noob question. My apologies if I missed it. In a MySQL database I have a table with the following primary key PRIMARY KEY id (invoice, item) In my application I will also frequently be selecting on "item" by itself and less frequently on only "invoice". I'm assuming I would benefit from indexes on these columns. MySQL does not complain when I define the following: INDEX (invoice), INDEX (item), PRIMARY KEY id (invoice, item) But I don't see any evidence (using DESCRIBE -- the only way I know how to look) that separate indexes have been established for these two columns. So the question is, are the columns that make up a primary key automatically indexed individually? Also, is there a better way than DESCRIBE to explore the structure of my table?

• Bookmarkabale ajax calls with MVC routing

  I have a page with a menu that uses JQuery AJAX calls to populate the page with. To reflect any changes I update the URL with a #... instead of ?... or /... So an URL that originally reads : htpp://localhost/pages/index/id=1 would look like : http://localhost/#pages/index/id=1. If a user bookmarks this, and later comes back to the page, I wonder if it's possible to use the second URL in my route decoding, or if I have to load it blank, then use the same JS/Ajax to populate the page? In my mind it is problematic to use Ajax in these cases if a user copies the link and mails it to a friend with JavaScript disabled. edit#1: Fixed some spelling.

  I just want to understand how capturing and bubbling work. Unfortunately this code just work in IE, and not working in firefox. When i click on div3, it just stop there.it not bubling up toward body element.   Hi Im trying to position an element so its slightly positioned outside its parent item. In IE8 it works but in IE7 the positioned element gets clipped.   (Not my real MySQL schema, but illustrates what needs done.) Users can belong to many groups, and groups have many users. users: id INT validated TINYINT(1) groups: id INT name VARCHAR(20) groups_users: group_id INT user_id INT I need to find groups that contain both validated and unvalidated users (validated being 1 or 0, respectively), in order to perform a specific manual maintenance task. There are thousands of users, all belong to at least one group, but a group usually only has 2-5 users. This is a live production server, so I could probably craft a query myself, but the last one I tried took a matter of minutes before I killed it. (I'm not one of those brilliant SQL wizards.) I suppose I could take the server down for maintenance, but, if possible, a query that gets this job done in a matter of seconds would be fantastic. Thanks!

The onclick or JQuery change events are triggered when a select list item is selected by being clicked on (mouse), but not when the user uses key presses (keyboard). Any idea what event to watch in order to determine when the selected list item has changed?
