  I have a small batch file which xcopies some files from one folder to another which I've scheduled (via windows scheduled tasks) to run every 1 hour: @echo off xcopy c:\foo c:\bar /E /C /F /Y Since this is my workstation, I'm most probably doing work when the task executes, and then the black dos console window is displayed (lasts 2-3 seconds) and steals window focus. I don't wish to see the files copied and of course the batch file does not ask for any user input. Is there a way to avoid displaying the console completely?

• Setting the first letter of a selection to be bigger and colored different than the rest

  Is there an option or style where I can make a selection and on its first letter, have that be set at a larger font size, and possibly another color? Say I have a selection of text all set to 11 point in black, but I would like the first letter to be at 14 point in red. How would I do this?

  I recently change my compiz settings for my cube and upon restarting my pc it first black screened, where it got stuck, on this screen the last command stated that it was checking the battery status, it was like this for hours i finally got thru to the Login screen but it will not accept the password (with i know is correct). The computer knows that the time has passed because it will make my monitors display solid black screens. I already tried installing the latest mouse drivers from Microsoft and the problem persists. I also can't find any rhyme or reason to when the problem will happen. The problem happens even when Windows Media Player isn't running.

• Cost of running colour laser printers.

  Has anyone got a good list of the costs of running colour laser printers, both for colour and black that take into account different usage volumes. E.g if the dram needs replacing after 20,000 pages, but I am only do 10,000 in the next 3 years, I don’t care about the cost of a new dram. So a simple “cost per page” figure is each printer is not good enough to be useful in real life. (A spread sheet / website that I could type my own usage values into would be great.)

  I'd like to make colour adjustments to an existing PDF file, the equivalent of Photoshop's adjustments, and save a new version with the altered colours. I'm after more than a colourspace conversion. I'd like to take a file that's black and white, and convert it into green, blue, yellow, pink etc versions. • Windows 7 boots with a blank screen with mouse cursor only.

  My Windows 7 machine was powered down without logging out first. Now when booting the PC, Windows 7 does not completely start--instead it boots to an all-black screen with a mouse cursor that can be moved around. There are no icons, toolbars, etc. Ctrl+Alt+Del does not bring up the Task Manager. Booting to Safe Mode renders the same result.

  Don't remember this from earlier, but my mouse is lagging when I refresh specific websites in Chrome and Firefox. I can't observe such lags with Internet Explorer. • HP does not power off after shutdown (Vista)

  My HP d330 does not properly shutdown, after Vista "shutting down" message the lcd screen goes black, but both HD + Power Leds remain on.. Any ideas? No entries in EventViewer about this. Keyboard leds no more work after this partial shutdown so I assume hardware is partially shutdown..? Same problem occurs when I choose Sleep from shutdown menu
