  • Simple way to use Foreign Key values for sorting?

    Disclaimer: I jumped to C# 2008 recently and SubSonic 3 (3.0.0.4) at the same time. I haven't used Linq for much of anything in the past. Is there an easy way to use the foreign key display value for sorting, rather than the FK Id (which is numeric)? I've added a new Find method in my ActiveRecord.tt to help with sorting based on a string field name but after doing some testing I realized that even though its working as it should be, I am not handling foreign key fields at all (they are just sorting by their value). Even if I need to change how I am accessing the data it is early enough in the project to do that. Just looking for suggestions.

  • why doesn't winmain set the errorlevel?

    int APIENTRY _tWinMain(HINSTANCE hInstance, HINSTANCE hPrevInstance, LPTSTR lpCmdLine, int nCmdShow) { MessageBox(NULL, _T("This should return 90 no?"), _T("OK"), MB_OK); return 90; } Why does the above program correctly display the message box, but does not set the error level? I compile this program to the name a.exe. Then from command prompt I type: c:\> a.exe (message box is displayed, I press ok) c:\> echo %ERRORLEVEL% 0 I get the same results if I do exit(90); right before the return. It still says 0. I also tried to start the program via CreateProcess and obtain the result with GetExitCodeProcess but it also returns 0 to me. I did error checking to ensure it was all started correctly. I originally seen this problem in a more complex program. But made this simple program to verify the problem. Results are the same, both programs that have WinMain return 0 always. I tried both x64, x86 and unicode and MBCS compiling options. All give 0 as an error level/status code.

  • Does Eclipse Ganymede have a mouse-click bug in the Navigator view?

    I've had to downgrade from Galileo to Ganymede in order to use the version of the FlexBuilder plugin that we are licensed for. Since the downgrade, I have several times accidentally dragged files or entire folders from one part of my project into another (or even into another project). I blamed this on fatfingers the first couple times, but I just now watched it do it to me on what I definitely know to have been a single left click on the folder that the file ended up moving to. Does anybody know if this is a known issue with Ganymede?

    Having trouble converting an Ilayer to an IPolygon. I am developing a toolbar for ArcMap and I grab a layer via code from the side table of contents. The Layer is a Polygon, but the code won't convert it to a IPolygon. Can anyone help me out? This is the code I am using to try and convert it to a IPolygon... IPolygon poly = m_document.Maps.get_Item(0).get_Layer(0) as IPolygon; I can do this: ILayer layer = m_document.Maps.get_Item(0).get_Layer(0) as ILayer; And that works, just not converting it to a IPloygon..

  • Xml files stop being served by IIS6 after allowing .net to process the .xml extension

    I added a route into my site to allow for a sitemap and everything worked fine in IIS7 but once I deployed the route stopped working. Since the live server is running IIS6 I needed to put a new mapping in for .xml to be processed by .net and then it started to work. My issue though is on every other xml file on the site now. I keep getting a 404 error when trying to view xml files, but the sitemap.xml route works. Is this a routing issue or an IIS setup issue?   • Self updating application install with WIX?

    I am writing an application that needs to be installed on a large number of desktops and also needs to update itself. We are looking at WIX for creating the installation. I have used ClickOnce and it is not a good solution for this install. WIX seems to fit, but there is no good process for auto update that I have found. I have looked at ClickThrough, but it doesn't seem ready for prime time yet. Does anyone have another good solution to use with WIX (or maybe another install program) to auto update an application install?

The following script will do most of that. sed -e '/^\/*/ d' -e '/*\/$/ d' filename This script will remove all lines that start with * and end with */. I want it to remove the line only if is meets both criteria not one.

  • What are good educational resources for setting up .Net Webservice on a DMZ connecting to SQL Server

    We are going to begin implementing a web service that will be hosted on a DMZ server. This web server will post data to a SQL server and we're trying to determine the best methodology to handle this. Things that concern us are web service authentication, SOAP, and whether or not to store the database on the DMZ or the local network. This same scenario will apply to ASP.Net apps. Trust me, I've already searched the web, but as usual, the online resources I've found either talk about just authentication, or just about SOAP, or etc, but does not show or suggest how the entire system can work together.   • Collection wrapping a array is read-only. Possible to make it writeable without casting?

    I have a Collection<T> property that wraps a array like T[] array; public Collection<T> Items { get { return new Collection<T>(array); } } When I attempt to assign to the collection via: T variable; Items[i] = variable; I get a NotSupportedException because the colleciton's IsReadOnly property is true. Turns out that this is a design choice by Microsoft. Does anyone know a workaround that does NOT involve enumeration? It could be done if the underlying data is not an array but I enjoy the performance gains because the data is fixed length.

  • Recognize Dates In A String

    I want a class something like this: public interface IDateRecognizer { DateTime[] Recognize(string s); } The dates might exist anywhere in the string and might be any format. For now, I could limit to U.S. culture formats. The dates would not be delimited in any way. They might have arbitrary amounts of whitespace between parts of the date. The ideas I have are: ANTLR Regex Hand rolled I have never used ANTLR, so I would be learning from scratch. I wonder if there are libraries or code samples out there that do something similar that could jump start me. Is ANTLR too heavy for such a narrow use? I have used Regex a lot before, but I hate it for all the reasons that most people hate it. I could certainly hand roll it but I'd rather not re-solve a solved problem. Suggestions? UPDATE: Here is an example. Given this input: This is a date 11/3/63. Here is another one: November 03, 1963; and another one Nov 03, 63 and some more (11/03/1963). The dates could be in any U.S. format. They might have dashes like 11-2-1963 or weird extra whitespace inside like this: Nov   3,   1963, and even maybe the comma is missing like [Nov 3 63] but that's an edge case. The output should be an array of seven DateTimes. Each date would be the same: 11/03/1963 00:00:00.

  • Should you remove all warnings in your Verilog or VHDL design? Why or why not?

    In (regular) software I have worked at companies where the gcc option -Wall is used to show all warnings. Then they need to be dealt with. With non-trivial FPGA/ASIC design in Verilog or VHDL there are often many many warnings. Should I worry about all of them? Do you have any specific techniques to suggest? My flow is mainly for FPGAs (Altera and Xilinx in particular), but I assume the same rules would apply to ASIC design, possibly more so due to the inability to change the design after it is built.

  • Wordpress auto excerpts from post content?

    I'm trying to create an auto generated post excerpt from the current page's post content using a function in my theme's header file. The post excerpt will be used as the page's meta description. Can someone give me an idea of how you might go about this once you've got the post content into a string variable? The somewhat tricky part is that, in order to predict a viable stopping point for the post excerpt, I'd like to specify that the cutoff point be the end of the first paragraph of text. And for that reason, it does not make sense to load the entire post content into the string I'm using. Can I grab the first paragraph without having to load the entire post content string? And I'm not certain how to test for that in php. Would regex be the only way?

  • How can I change 'self.view' within a button method created outside of 'loadView'

    Hey guys. So I am creating buttons dynamically within loadView. Each of these buttons is given an action using the @Selector method, such as : [button addTarget:self action:@selector(showCCView) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside]; Now that showCCView method is defined outside of loadView, where this above statement is located. The point of the method is to change the view currently on the screen (so set self.view = ccView). It gives me an error every time I try and access self.view outside of loadView, and even sometimes when I try and access it at random places within loadView, it just has been acting really weird. I tried to change it around so I wouldn't have to deal with this either. I had made a function + (void) showView: (UIView*) oldView: (UIView*) newView; but this didn't work out either because the @Selector was being real prissy about using it with a function that needed two parameters.   • Trying to compile a linux-based app on Mac OS X

    I'm just trying to compile the linux-based FCEUX (NES emulator) on my mac, OS X 10.5 Leopard.     Trying to find an efficient way to extract all instances of items in an array out of another. For example array1 = ["abc", "def", "ghi", "jkl"] array2 = ["abc", "ghi", "456", "789"] Array 1 is an array of items that need to be extracted out of array 2. Thus, array 2 should be modified to ["456", "789"] I know how to do this, but no in an efficient manner.

  • Post/Redirect/Get Pattern and Sticky Forms

    I'm using the Post/Redirect/Get pattern on a form of mine. I've never used this approach before and I'm trying to figure something out: Normally, I always just displayed the posted form again when there were validation errors and displayed POST values in the form (sticky form). However with the PRG pattern, the form is displayed after a redirect, so there aren't any POST values. So my question is, how can I implement the PRG pattern and still have sticky forms?

  • What would make offsetParent null?

    I am trying to do positioning in JavaScript. I am using a cumulative position function based on the classic quirksmode function that sums offsetTop and offsetLeft for each offsetParent until the top node. However, I am running into an issue where the element I'm interested in has no offsetParent in Firefox. In IE offsetParent exists, but offsetTop and offsetLeft all sum up to 0, so it has the same problem in effect as in Firefox. What would cause an element that is clearly visible and usable on the screen to not have an offsetParent? Or, more practically, how can I find the position of this element in order to place a drop-down beneath it?
