  • Tell browsers to cache until last modified date changes?

    My web site consists of static HTML files which are usually republished once per day, and sometimes more. I'm using Apache. In the vhost settings for my site, I'd like to tell browsers to cache HTML files indefinitely, until Apache sees that they are modified. So as soon as an HTML file is changed, Apache should immediately begin telling browsers it's changed and send the updated file. As soon as a new file is published, browsers should immediately begin receiving that...they should never receive old versions of files. Maybe ExpiresByType text/html modification and no "plus x days." Is something like this possible?

  • How to open first n bytes of file in hexadecimal and edit it?

    I want to edit some .avi videos (cut them, to be precise) in VirtualDub but it failed to open the files. They are encoded in xvid, which I have installed, and play in KMPlayer without problem. Also, all other xvid videos can be opened and cut just fine by VirtualDub. I suspect there's something wrong in the first few bytes of these particular videos (the magic number?). This means I have to open the offending files in a hex editor and make some necessary adjustments to the header. Problem is, they are very large ( 3 GB each) and take very long time to open in UltraEdit. Can UltraEdit open just the first few bytes of a file? If not, do you know of an application that can do that? Edit: I'm using Windows XP.

  • how do I setup Apache's Content-Encoding Header?

    When attempting to validate my site with the W3C validator, it returns the error, "Don't know how to decode Content-Encoding 'none'". Firebug confirms that my server is sending the header, "Content-Encoding: none". But I can't find any directive in apache2.conf or in my vhost that sets the Content-Encoding header. Where does the directive go, and what should it be set to? UPDATE: On further examination it seems something is wrong with mod_deflate (gzip). It's zipping my css files just fine, but is not zipping the html generated by my php scripts. I have: AddOutputFilterByType DEFLATE text/html text/plain text/xml text/css And the pages are showing a mime type of: "text/html". But content encoding is "none" and they aren't zipping. Perhaps these issues are related?

  • nginx rule to capture header and append value as query string

    I have an interesting problem I need to solve in nginx: one of the sites I'm building receives inbound traffic on port 80 (and only port 80) which may have a certain header set in the request. If this header is present I need to capture the value of it and append that as a querystring parameter before doing a temporary redirect (rewrite) to a different (secure) server, while passing the paramater and any other querystring params along.     I have one file that should only be accessible via the POST method. /var/www/folder/index.php The document root is /var/www/ and index.php is nested inside a folder. My configurations are as follows: <Directory "/var/www/folder"> <Files "index.php"> order deny,allow Allow from all <LimitExcept POST> Deny from all </LimitExcept> </Files> </Directory> I visit my server at 127.0.0.1/folder but I can GET and POST the file just like normal. I've also tried reversing the order, order allow,deny, require, limitexcept and limit. How can I only allow POST requests to be processed by one file in a folder?

    I have set up a header filter in postfix to discard messages from Russia and Romania because of the volume of spam coming from those and we do not currently do business in those countries. My regex looks like this /^From:.*\@.*\.ro/ DISCARD Problem is it is discarding messages containing .rodomainsomething like @email.roadrunnerrecords.com How would I make it filter exact to TLD .ro?     I'm looking through google webmaster that my page is generating soft 404 errors (https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/181708?hl=en) google says: We recommend that you always return a 404 (Not found) or a 410 (Gone) response code in response to a request for a non-existing page But I've got redirects set up that handle old pages to redirect to the proper new pages using a 301. The website links changed because of a use of a framework, which allows it to be more consistent, but the old pages till have links out there to these. Should I be worried about this? IS google penalizing the site for this? (Using IIS 8, Tomcat, CF10, Win)

  • Exchange2010 has Private Machine Name and IP in outbound SMTP - How to remove?

    We have a domain (domain.local) that has IP Addresses in the 10.10.10.* range. In the outbound SMTP server traffic, I see the internal machine name (exchange.domain.local), and the internal ip address (10.10.10.55). The question is, how do you remove this header from exchange, or change it to have the external machine name/ip addresses. I am not talking about the HELO / EHLO handshake as part of the protocol. Please help.

    I'm running into infrequent 503 errors which appear hard to pinpoint. Varnishlog is driving me mad, since I can't seem to get the information I want out of it. I'd like to see both the client- and backend-communications as seen by Varnish. I thought the XID number, which is logged on Varnish's default error page, would allow me to filter the exact request out of the logging buffer. However, no combination of varnishlog parameters gives me the output I need. The following only shows the client-side communication: varnishlog -d -c -m ReqStart:1427305652 while this only shows the resulting backend communication: varnishlog -d -b -m TxHeader:1427305652 Is there a one-liner to show the entire request?

  • Amazon S3 not sending Content-Type header

    I have an application that downloads content from various sources. It relies on the "Content-Type" header being set on images. The majority of web-servers do this correctly but it appears Amazon S3 server is not setting the Content-Type. I assume Amazon servers are configured correctly so what could be the problem? Are these images not uploaded correctly? Or should I not be relying on content type being set? Example Thanks

  • How do I configure Jetty (via jettyrunner) so that it names a character set in the Content-Type response header?

    I use Jetty (via the oh-so-handy Jetty Runner) for day-to-day web application testing. One thing I've recently stumbled on is the fact that I don't get a character set called out in the "Content-Type" response header all the time. I do get it in response to my application's XMLHttpRequest transactions, but not for plain old pages loaded by <a> links or whatever. I've read a little bit about how to set up a Jetty config file, but I've never been able to completely understand that; all servlet containers are complicated, and while Jetty is pretty simple it's just weird enough that I don't grok the overall idea. Thus, all I do to launch my app is to run the Jetty Runner .jar file with a couple of simple arguments to set up the port number and logfile path, and then I just give it the .war file to run. It works great — except for the missing character set :-) Anybody have a quick sample config file that might fix this? edit — oh if it matters, I'm running Jetty 7.0.0 RC3; I've also tried with a slightly newer version (still 7.something) with exactly the same issue. All my testing is on Ubuntu.
