• Checking for Repeated Strings in 2d list

  i have a program where i have a list of names and classes. i have the list in alphabetical order. now im trying to check if names repeat, add the classes to one single name. im trying to write some code like go through names if name is already in list, add the class to the one name. so an example would be, instead of having 'Anita ','phys 1443', and 'Anita','IE 3312' i would just have 'Anita','PHYS 1443','IE 3312'. • Entity Framework Update Error in ASP.NET Mvc with related entity

  I have run into a problem which have searched and tried everything i can to find a solution but to no avail. Make sure that the EdmRelationshipAttribute for the relationship has been defined in the assembly. Parameter name: relationshipName.. But both the related entities are set in the booking entity passed thruogh PLEASE HELP Im at wits end with this

  Hey there, this is part of a question i got in class, im at the final stretch but this has become a major problem. In it im given a certain value which is called the "gold value" and it is 40.5, this value changes in input. and i have these constants const int RUBIES_PER_DIAMOND = 5; // relative values. * const int EMERALDS_PER_RUBY = 2; const int GOLDS_PER_EMERALDS = 5; const int SILVERS_PER_GOLD = 4; const int COPPERS_PER_SILVER = 5; const int DIAMOND_VALUE = 50; // gold values. * const int RUBY_VALUE = 10; const int EMERALD_VALUE = 5; const float SILVER_VALUE = 0.25; const float COPPER_VALUE = 0.05; which means that basically for every diamond there are 5 rubies, and for every ruby there are 2 emeralds. So on and so forth. and the "gold value" for every diamond for example is 50 (diamond value = 50) this is how much one diamond is worth in golds. my problem is converting 40.5 into these diamonds and ruby values. I know the answer is 4rubies and 2silvers but how do i write the algorithm for this so that it gives the best estimate for every goldvalue that comes along??

  Hi all, On my activity, im getting some big data from web, and while getting this data i want to show the user a ProgressDialog with spinning wheel. That i can do only with putting this code into a thread, right ? the problem is that after im getting this data i need to insert it into my tableLayout as TableRows and it seems impossible to access the TableLayout from the thread. What can i do to show this progress dialog and to be able access the table layout from the thread ?? Is there any event that happens on the end of the thread ? • Using singleton instead of a global static instance

  I ran into a problem today and a friend recommended I use a global static instance or more elegantly a singleton pattern. I spent a few hours reading about singletons but a few things still escape me. Background: What Im trying to accomplish is creating an instance of an API and use this one instance in all my classes (as opposed to making a new connection, etc). There seems to be about 100 ways of creating a singleton but with some help from yoda I found some thread safe examples. ..so given the following code: public sealed class Singleton { public static Singleton Instance { get; private set; } private Singleton() { APIClass api = new APIClass(); //Can this be done? } static Singleton() { Instance = new Singleton(); } } How/Where would you instantiate the this new class and how should it be called from a separate class? EDIT: I realize the Singleton class can be called with something like Singleton obj1 = Singleton.Instance(); but would I be able to access the methods within the APIs Class (ie. obj1.Start)? (not that I need to, just asking) EDIT #2: I might have been a bit premature in checking the answer but I do have one small thing that is still causing me problems. The API is launching just fine, unfortunately Im able to launch two instances? • please clarify some aspects of AJAX with ASP.NET web forms for a beginner

  Im familiar with asp.net web forms. I would now like to move on to writing web applications that use AJAX. I would like to get to the stage where I can create an app: that has "edit in place" (no page reload) where i can reorder images using drag and drop (also saves the order to DB) that has google like search suggestions while typing on the fly 1)So do I need to learn how to use AJAX.net and Jquery(my JS library of choice)? Can I make do using only AJAX.net or only Jquery? 2)As far a I know, Jquery will allow me to perform client side manipulations/actions and AJAX.net is the part that will allow me to connect some of my actions to the Server. EG. if I wanted to re-order elements using drag and drop, I would use Jquery, but in order to save the result of the re-order to the DB I would have to use AJAX.net correct? 2a)So In order to learn how to do the above Im thinking I should first learn Jquery so I know how to manipulate/ select elements, and then I can lean how to save these changes to the DB. 3)I searched the books titled "ASP.net AJAX in action" and ASP.net 3.5 AJAX, both of these books did not contain any references to "Jquery". Is this because they may be using a different JS library, or perhaps the book focuses on the AJAX user controls? I just found it confusing that 2 popular AJAX books dont make any reference to Jquery. • php remove button keeps retreiving posted information

  Hi every1! im quickly finding im quite the beginner to php, so please bare with me! I have a quick problem, I have a remove button for a shopping cart and the code works for it everytime except for the last product thats in the cart. If a person pushes the addtoCart button the URL is reloaded with ?buyproduct=$productNumber and when the remove button is pushed the product is removed. Right so everything is good, but when you try to remove the last item, it keeps reading the product thats in the URL. so the quantity remains 1 for the current $productNumber. i've tried adding the action in the form method tag so that the page reloads without the ?buyproduct=$productNumber, which does work however there are page numbers and sections that were also in the URL and these get reset also. i know the remove is working because once the ?buyproduct=$productNumber is gone from the URL (which can happen for example if they go to another section in the catalog) then the cart can be completely emptied. Thank you so much ahead of time for any1's help, I've used this site before and you guys are genius's!

  I got this idea from XKCD's Hofstadter comic; what's the best way to create a conditional loop in (any) Lisp dialect that executes a function until it returns NIL at which time it collects the returned values into a list. • Counter that will remember it's value

  I have a task to operate on complex number. Each number consists of double r = real part, double i = imaginary part and String name. Name must be set within constructor, so I've created int counter, then I'm sending it's value to setNextName function and get name letter back. Unfortunately incrementing this 'counter' value works only within costructor and then it is once again set to 0. How to deal with that?Some constant value? And second problem is that I also need to provide setNextNames(char c) function that will change the counter current value. • svn import, dont modify revision OR modify the list of files in a transaction

  Hi Ive gained so much knowledge/insight from this site in the past few years, now im actually hoping to get some enlightenment. The scenario is as follows: You have the general structure of the repo (trunk,branches,tags) but added to the layout you have another directory called 'db_revs'. Now in the pre-commit, you take a dump of a specific database (the specifics are irrelevant) into a temporary file, say /tmp/REV.sql (REV being the HEAD revision number of the repo, or the transaction). K all is well and you can just import that temp file into the repo at /db_revs/REV.sql Now obviously that import, even tho its happening during a commit, increments the revision of the repo. So when u do a commit at some point to say 'test.php' in the trunk and it completes at say revision 159, then the pre-commit runs as it should and the DB dump gets imported but then u r sitting with a tree in the repo-browser where 'trunk' is at revision 159, and 'db_revs', which has the imported dump, is at 158 (Ive made it so that the filename matches the revision ie: 159.sql but that file is then at revision 158). NB If you're doing an import in a pre-commit, you need to add some logic to not perform the import, say by checking first for the existence of the temp file, otherwise it will cause, um, a stack overflow and your PC will quickly crawl to a stand still So I wanted to know if it was possible to make an import to not commit its changes. I realise I might be barking up the wrong tree to begin with so I have another idea of doing this so that brings me to the 2nd part of my question, would it be possible to modify the list of files that the transaction is about to commit to the repo. I know this can be done to a WC but that wont help as a WC is a checked out copy of say the trunk so im not sure how u would add a file to the 'db_revs' folder which is above trunk?   Im building a c# program and am currently stuck at fetching data from MYSQL database and bind them to a grid view. I had been researching for a few days now but to no avail. I have 4 table in the database. table 1 - alpha table 2 - bravo table 3 - charlie table 4 - delta attributes of alpha (id, type, user, role ) attributes of bravo (id, type, date, user) attributes of charlie (id,type, cat, doneby, comment) atttibutes of delta (id,type, cat, doneby) * the pk of alpha and bravo is (id) * the pk of charlie and delta is (id, type) i did a query1 before by inner joinning alpha, bravo and charlie which leads to the sucessful result of (id, type, date, user, role, cat, doneby, comment) and i also did a query2 before by inner joinning alpha, bravo and delta which leads to the sucessful result of (id, type, date, user, role, cat, doneby) Right now, im trying to built a query3 which will merge the result from query1 and query2 together. the result of my attempts leads to (id, type, date, user, role, cat, doneby, comment,id, type, date, user, role, cat, doneby) As i do not want the repeated columns, I would like to seek advice on how to get the result to become like the one below by placing the records as a new tuple in the result table. (id, type, date, user, role, cat, doneby, comment) Thanks! P.S: the PK would not pose a problem due to (id, type)

I was looking at some examples online and couldnt figure our if i shud use Action or Func delegates for this. Both look similar but im unable to get a clear idea how to implement this. Any help is gr8ly appreciated. I'm using .NET 4.0, so im allowed to use anonymous methods n lambda expressions also for this Thanks

The issue is while im listening for a connection if i want to quit listening then the server thread continues running and causes problems. i know i should not use .stop() on a thread so i was wondering what the solution would look like with this in mind? • Dynamically created operators

  I created a program using dev-cpp and wxwidgets which solves a puzzle. The user must fill the operations blocks and the results blocks, and the program will solve it. Im solving it using bruteforce, i generate all non repeated 9 length number combinations using a recursive algorithm. It does it pretty fast. Up to here all is great! But the problem is when my program operates depending the character on the blocks. Its extremely slow (it never gets the answer), because of the chars comparation against +, -, *, etc. Im doing a CASE. Is there some way or some programming language wich allows dinamic creation of operators? So i can define the operator ROW1COL2 to be a +, and the same way to all other operations.   Im uploading a file, and then attempting to use fgetcsv to do things to it. This is my script below. Everything was working fine before i added the file upload portions. Now its not showing any errors, its just not displaying the uploaded data.   Im trying to build an Item Template for my list-view and im bound to a list of Entities. The entity I have has a System.Drawing.Image that I'd like to display, but so far I cannot for the life of me figure out how to bind it to the <Image> block. • How would you protect a database of links from being scraped?

  I have a large database of links, which are all sorted in specific ways and are attached to other information, which is valuable (to some people). Currently my setup (which seems to work) simply calls a php file like link.php?id=123, it logs the request with a timestamp into the DB. Before it spits out the link, it checks how many requests were made from that IP in the last 5 minutes. If its greater than x, it redirects you to a captcha page. That all works fine and dandy, but the site has been getting really popular (as well as been getting DDOsed for about 6 weeks), so php has been getting floored, so Im trying to minimize the times I have to hit up php to do something. I wanted to show links in plain text instead of thru link.php?id= and have an onclick function to simply add 1 to the view count. Im still hitting up php, but at least if it lags, it does so in the background, and the user can see the link they requested right away. Problem is, that makes the site REALLY scrapable. Is there anything I can do to prevent this, but still not rely on php to do the check before spitting out the link?

• Flex 3 - Saving an image of a component

  Im currently trying to work the imageSnapshot function in flex. Ive been looking hard but I cant seem to find a solution to my problem. I wish to take a screenshot of one of my components, to capture the final output of my program, since a plain "printscreen" cuts off some of the output due to it scrolling. My current code looks like - <mx:ApplicationControlBar dock="true"> <mx:Button label="Take snapshot of Profile" click="takeSnapshot();" /> </mx:ApplicationControlBar> Which when called does - private function takeSnapshot(even:Event=null):void { var imageSnap:ImageSnapshot = ImageSnapshot.captureImage(viewstack1); Now i think this is taking the image of the viewstack which I want... But Im stumped on what to do from here! Is it not possible to now just copy the image to the clipboard, or produce a new window in my browser with the entire image inside? If anyone has any other way to do this, suggestions would be wonderful. Thank you for your time.

Im trying to pass a parameter to an action, it does load, but when my script goes from the controller to the view, and goes back to the controller again, its gone. • regex php: find everything in div

  I'm trying to find eveything inside a div using regexp. I'm aware that there probably is a smarter way to do this - but I've chosen regexp. so currently my regexp pattern looks like this: $gallery_pattern = '/([\s\S]*)<\/div/'; And it does the trick - somewhat. the problem is if i have two divs after each other - like this. <div class="gallery">text to extract here</div> <div class="gallery">text to extract from here as well</div> I want to extract the information from both divs, but my problem, when testing, is that im not getting the text in between as a result but instead: "text to extract here text to extract from here as well" So . to sum up. It skips the first end of the div. and continues on to the next. The text inside the div can contain "<", "/" and linebreaks. just so you know! Does anyone have a simple solution to this problem? Im still a regexp novice.

• Freemarker - lack of special character in email subject template cause email content crash

  im fighting with strange error. Im using seperate freemarker templates for mail subject and body. It is sent using org.springframework.mail.javamail.JavaMailSender. Only templates that contains some special swedish character works in my application ( yes you read right... not the other way). If I delete it my email content crashes. It contains then: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/html;charset=UTF-8 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit .. html code here .. My freemarker.properties file locale=sv_SE classic_compatible=false number_format= date_format=yyyy-MM-dd time_format=HH:mm datetime_format=yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm output_encoding=UTF-8 url_escaping_charset=UTF-8 auto_import=spring.ftl as spring auto_include= default_encoding=UTF-8 localized_lookup=true strict_syntax=true whitespace_stripping=true template_update_delay=10 Ive tried to convert subject file with dos2unix tool. Using 'find -bi subject.ftl' show that encoding is us-ascii. With added special character - utf-8. This thing is suprisingly strange for me... //SOLUTION: use :set bomb and save file in vim.

• Getting PCM values of WAV files

  I have a .wav mono file (16bit,44.1kHz) and im using this code below. If im not wrong, this would give me an output of values between -1 and 1 which i can apply FFT on ( to be converted to a spectrogram later on). However, my output is no where near -1 and 1.
