  Hi, I have defined an additional graph (in Munin, munin.conf) that calculates the total size of my MySQL database. The index and data sizes are extracted from an external plugin. • PC reboots automatically in the begining

  I have a AMD Phenom II 3GHz. 2 GB RAM system running on Windows 7. Off late my PC does not start properly I have to start it at least 7-8 times before it starts. It starts and then shuts down. Every time the time for which the system is up increases. After 7-8 attempts it starts an works fine. I have to give it a min between restarts (USB mouse light goes off). If I try restarting before this time the PC does not start. I am suspecting humidity playing some factor as this issue has started creeping up ever since the rains have started.

• WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR BSOD - what is wrong?

  Hello I have a problem with my PC getting the WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR bsod. It is a few months old pc. I am not overclocking or changing anything in bios, but sometimes (this is my third time) I get this bsod out of nowhere. This last time I was just watching some stream on twitch when the pc suddenly crashed. I have everything up to date in windows update and every other driver as well. Everything in Open hardware Monitor seems ok. Right now as of 10 min after the crash, the CPU temp is at 38°C, fans are at 1400RPM I am using Windows 8.1 Pro 64b. • Nginx + PHP-FPM executes script, but returns 404

  I am using Nginx + PHP-FPM to run a Wordpress based site. I have a URL that should return dynamically generated JSON data for use with the DataTables jQuery plugin. The data is returned properly, but with a return code of 404. I think this is a Nginx config issue, but I haven't been able to figure out why. The script 'getTable.php' works properly on the production version of the site which is currently using Apache. Anyone know how I can get this to work on Nginx?   Hi there, I've just had an email from my hosting company telling me I'm in violation of their Acceptable Use Policy. They forwarded me an email from another company complaining about something to do with a "TCP sweep of port 22". • Cannot set MemOpMode or ProcVirtualization with syscfg.exe

  When attempting to set MemOpMode or ProcVirtualization with syscfg.exe, I get the following error: C:\Users\EGr>syscfg --MemOpMode=AdvEccMode System Services or CSIOR disabled In the past, I have been told that this can be resolved by forcefully reinstalling the Dell Lifecycle controller firmware, and then trying again; however, I cannot find my notes on how to do that. Has anyone ever run into this issue, and does anyone know how I can fix it? If it is possible to forcefully reinstall the firmware, how would I do that? I've tried running the installer, but it fails after running for ~2 min. I believe there is a way to fix this as well, by adding/modifying a registry value at HKLM\System\Control\CurrentControlSet\Services\IPMIDRV (that might not be the correct path, but I know it is IPMIDRV). Is this a common issue? What is the actual cause of it?

• Sar data not collected for 10 minutes

  We have a RedHat server whose only job is to run a JBoss server. Monitors said that memory usage spiked (we have the JVM limited to far less than the total memory on the system) and JBoss crashed. We restarted and everything seems ok now. Odd thing is that sar data for 10 min leading up to the crash is simply not there. Load average got up to the 50s. I have seen severely busy systems (350+ Load Average) still collect sar data. Does anyone have any idea what could cause sar to stop collecting data?

  I tried making some Munin Aggregated graphs but somehow I am unable to make the configuration work. I think I have followed the instructions but since its not working, I would love some assistance or guidance as to what I am doing wrong. Then, about a minute later, it connects and I'm on my way. The Mini9 boots up within 30 seconds from SSD, so opening Firefox and then waiting 3+ min for wireless networking is a bit of a pain. Can anything be done?

• What's the quickest way to install Windows 7?

  I am wondering what the quickest/fastest way to install Windows 7 would be? I've read that you can make a bootable USB with unetbootin, or load the ISO contents to a separate partition/hard-drive and boot from there to install. Then I seen a method using imagex to copy the files needed onto a new partition which can be booted from directly, it takes ~7 minutes + ~5 min for the initial boot... I haven't tried it yet but would like to know if anyone knows of anything faster? If you could provide some instructions (step by step) would be great! The imagex method provides a good tutorial for example.

• Why does a website server recieve local files much slower than recieve files on other websites?

  The server at http://any2djvu.djvuzone.org receives same files from local computers much slower than from links on other websites (with the same files have been uploaded to the other websites, such as dropbox.com). The speed of uploading a file from local computers to other websites such as dropbox is also much faster than to any2djvu website. For example, a pdf file of 17MB needs more than 1 min to be uploaded to any2djvu server from a local computer with normal ISP such as Comcast High-speed internet, but takes less than 3 seconds from a dropbox link to any2djvu server, and takes around 10 seconds from the same local computer to dropbox. I wonder why there is such big differences for the speeds of different uploading ways to a web server? Thanks!

• MySQL Linked Server and SQL Server 2008 Express Performance

  Hi All, I am currently trying to setup a MySQL Linked Server via SQL Server 2008 Express. I have tried two methods, creating a DSN using the mySQL 5.1 ODBC driver, and using Cherry Software OLE DB Driver as well. The method that I prefer would be using the ODBC driver, but both run horrendously slow (doing one simple join takes about 5 min). Is there any way I can get better performance? We are trying to cross query between multiple mySQL databases on different servers, and this seems to be method we think would work well.   We use a spreadsheet as our timecards. The template is stores on the server with links to it on the individual Desktops. I am trying to figgure out the VB so that wnen the cell for username (B5) is blank, the VB will place next sundays date in (B7). After the user enters thier name in B5, I need it to not change B7 again. If I use a formula in B7 "=IF(B5="",TODAY()+8-WEEKDAY(TODAY()),B7)" i need to enable the curcular calcualtions, which don't follow from the template to the spreadsheet, thus causing errors for every individual. Corporate says that they need to be in Excel, because of the import software. Otherwise I'd use Word and the "CreateDate" function. I've been trying to learn the VB to do it, but I was hoping that soem expert could whip out the code in 5 min. flat and just let me disect it.

  I had a working subversion server which used the passwd file which stores passwords in clear text. My requirements changed so that passwords now need to be encrypted. I did everything according to the book to use SASL, or so I believe, but now only the linux command line can authenticate. My OSX users, which also use command line, and my WinXp users, which use TortoiseSVN get errors. Linux versions are 1.6.11. OSX versions are 1.6.17. • Improve performance of bind9 service restart

  Hi, I'm setting up a name server hosting DNS for a large number of domains, 50,000 - 100,000 domains. I will be using Bind9 and the service will need to be restarted several times a day. I have made some tests and it seems that restart of the Bind9 service scales very poorly with the number of domains. #domains | restart time ----------------------- 10,000 | 3.1 sec 25,000 | 8.9 sec 50,000 | 50 sec 100,000 | 7:50 min Is there some way to speedup the restart of the service? I have noticed that restart only utilizes one core, is there some way for it to use more cores? The Bind9 version is 9.7.1-P2 with default configuration. The server running Bind9 is a Intel Core 2 Due 2.93 GHz with 4 GB memory and Ubuntu Server 10.10. Any help will be appreciated. Jakob

• How to edit screen grabbed video on Windows XP?

  Problem I've used CamStudio to record a presentation (fullscreen, 1280x1024, 45 min, no audio) to a small number of AVI files (10 files with about 800 MB total). Now I want to remove the initial and trailer sequences where you see start and stop of CamStudio. I'd like to remove some pauses during the video, too. Question Could you recommend some programs for Windows XP that I can use for this task? The result should be a (small - at least not bigger than the original) video format that I can play back. I've no need to create a DVD etc. Already tried I already tried MAGIX Video Deluxe 16 (Trial Version), but it takes about 2 hours to just export 10 minutes of the video and produces about 2 GB of data for this.

• Excel 2007: Using a time to set XY chart axis scaling like in 2003

  In Excel 2003, when you created a XY chart using time as an axis, you could set the scaling of these axes by typing in the date. In Excel 2007, you have to use the decimal version of the time (eg. How many days since some arbitrary earlier date). I was wondering if there was a way to avoid having to make such a calculation? A developer posted on a blog that this issue would be fixed in a future release, but all versions of Excel 2007 I have tried have not resolved this issue. The relevant quote: Those of you familiar with this technique of converting time to a decimal may recall that Excel 2003 allowed you to enter a date and time like “1/1/07 11:00 AM” directly in the axis option min/max fields and Excel would calculate the appropriate decimal representation.   I notice that EBS-backed AMIs are much like a VMWare instances -- I can stop them and also persist them to disk, and all this is done relatively quickly. However, I believe that S3 backed machines are different. They cannot be 'stopped', but rather can only be shut-down, written to S3 disk and started up again; with at least a 15 min delay in doing so. Why the difference? How do AMI providers decide whether to use EBS or S3? If I need to stop/persist/restart machines relatively frequently, then I am implicitly limited to just the EBS-backed machines?

  I have installed 6 DVD writers in Tower case. I am using Alcohol Software to burn multiple CDS. I have seen that about 4 dvd/cd writer finish recording early but some take long time finish and their speed is around 7x. Its not that those are the only writers doing that, some times other writer write slowly. But there are always 1 or 2 writer which takes about 25 min to write the 700Mb cd and some finish in 5 mins Why is that. All writers can write upto 40px speed. Which thing determines the speed

• Why did my laptop turn off?

  Normally I can slip my running laptop into a backpack, go somewhere, and if it's no more than about half an hour later, it'll still be running. At the destination I plug in the AC power unit and all is well. I run it off of the AC unit before and after the trip, have the screen at less than full backlight brightness, and don't have any peripherals that burn power. Sometimes the wireless switch accidentally slides in the backpack, and that causes extra power to be used and the laptop dies before I reach the destination. Sad, but so be it. But sometimes the wireless switch is off, I've reached the destination in less than 30 minutes (typically 10-20 min), and I know the battery was fully charged, yet the machine is off. Is there a way to determine, after the fact, why the machine shut itself off? I'm running Linux on a fairly powerful Gateway with 4GB RAM, fancy nvidia graphics, dual core cpu, chosen more for number crunching power than battery life, but should last easily for half an hour if not an hour.
