  • Debugging apache seg fault with gdb

    Apache on a production server of mine is seg faulting intermittently. I have enabled core dump option in apache configuration and have several dumped core files. Unfortunately, since it is a production server, apache or the loaded modules are not compiled with debug symbols. From what I understand, gdb cannot do much without debug symbols. Can I at least find out which module is causing the seg fault, without debug symbols? If so, how?   • Healthcare and Distributed Data Don't Mix

    How many times have you heard the story?  Hard disk goes missing, USB thumb drive goes missing, laptop goes missing...Not a week goes by that we don't hear about our data going missing...  Healthcare data is a big one, but we hear about credit card data, pricing info, corporate intellectual property...  When I have spoken at Security and IT conferences part of my message is "Why do you give your users data to lose in the first place?"  I don't suggest they can't have access to it...in fact I work for the company that provides the premiere data security and desktop solutions that DO provide access.  Access isn't the issue.  'Keeping the data' is the issue.We are all human - we all make mistakes... I fault no one for having their car stolen or that they dropped a USB thumb drive. (well, except the thieves - I can certainly find some fault there)  Where I find fault is in policy (or lack thereof sometimes) that allows users to carry around private, and important, data with them.  Mr. Director of IT - It is your fault, not theirs.  Ms. CSO - Look in the mirror.It isn't like one can't find a network to access the data from.  You are on a network right now.  How many Wireless ones (wifi, mifi, cellular...) are there around you, right now?  Allowing employees to remove data from the confines of (wait for it... ) THE DATA CENTER is just plain indefensible when it isn't required.  The argument that the laptop had a password and the hard disk was encrypted is ridiculous.  An encrypted drive tells thieves that before they sell the stolen unit for $75, they should crack the encryption and ascertain what the REAL value of the laptop is... credit card info, Identity info, pricing lists, banking transactions... a veritable treasure trove of info people give away on an 'encrypted disk'.What started this latest rant on lack of data control was an article in Government Health IT that was forwarded to me by Denny Olson, an Oracle Principal Sales Consultant in Minnesota.  The full article is here, but the point was that a couple laptops went missing in a couple different cases, and.. well... no one knows where the data is, and yes - they were loaded with patient info.  What were you thinking?Obviously you can't steal data form a Sun Ray appliance... since it has no data, nor any storage to keep the data on, and Secure Global Desktop allows access from Macs, Linux and Windows client devices...  but in all cases, there is no keeping the data unless you explicitly allow for it in your policy.   Since you can get at the data securely from any network, why would you want to take personal responsibility for it?  Both Sun Rays and Secure Global Desktop are widely used in Healthcare... but clearly not widely enough.We need to do a better job of getting the message out -  Healthcare (or insert your business type here) and distributed data don't mix. Then add Hot Desking and 'follow me printing' and you have something that Clinicians (and CSOs) love.Thanks for putting up my blood pressure, Denny.

I tried to do it with photoshop but I just can't manage to achieve the same quality ! I heard there is a possibility to use the "Apple symbols font" available on Mac (which contains these icons), could you show me how to get these symbols ?   • Outlook Addin in C# - How to add button/group in New Mail (next to signatures)

    I'm having some trouble understanding Outlook terms (CommandBarPopup, CommandBarButton etc) like what is what in Outlook so please be patient. I would like to create couple of things: I would like to create new group (or just button but i read it's not possible to add a button to an existing group in ribbon) on new mail next to Signature/Add attachment in Message Ribbon. It would have to work the same way Signature works so when you press it it display couple of options. How can i create it? I would like to override a button "NEW" (where you can choose that you want to send new mail, make appointment or do other things) so that when you are in Main Window when you press the down arrow next to new button you could choose one of options i will add? Is this possible? How do I do it?   • Symbolizing plugins in Instruments' stack traces

    Instruments is able to properly symbolize my app's main bundle (as well as frameworks and libraries) in the stack trace of the extended detail view. However, symbols aren't resolved for plugins loaded during execution. Setting the build directory where the dSym files for the main and plugin bundles are located (as well as the app itself) in the "File Re-Symbolicate Document" menu item made no discernible difference in the stack trace. What must I do for Instruments to load symbols for the plugins?

  • Unable to load dump files in Windows Server 2008

    I've got a managed process (x86) running on a Win Server 2008 (x64). When i'm talking a dump of the process via the task manager ("Create dump file"), i use correctly SOS on win dbg (it complains about symbols and such even though i have all of the debugging symbols installed). If i'll create the dump using procdump.exe [SysInternals], or via WinDBG [.dump -ma], i can open the dump file and use SOS without any problems ...what's the deal with task manager's "create dump file" option?

  • Adding an ADO.NET Entity Data Model throws build errors

    I am using Visual Studio 2013 express. I create a new project and then I add a database to that project. But, when I add an ADO.NET Entity Framework model to that project and then run the program, I get the following four build errors listed below. To try to remedy this myself, I added the namespaces 'System.Data.Entity' and 'System.Data.Entity.Design', but that didn't help. Also, I uninstalled and re-installed the Nuget package. I also uninstalled and re-installed Visual Studio 2013 Express for Windows Desktop. But these measures didn't help the situation either. Please note that I used to use the Entity Data model just fine. But it was around the time that I did a system restore on my computer, and when I updated VS 2013 with an update offered on the start page, and finally, when I signed up for MS Azure, that I started running into the problem described above. Now I would think that uninstalling and reinstalling Visual Studio 2013, and then installing the 'Nuget' Package would solve all problems. What am I missing here? However this requires knowing the symbol "SDL_Init" exists. Is it possibly to query a library for all its symbols? Eg, in this case it would return SDL_Init, the function pointer, and any other symbols exported by libSDL.so.

    Hi, I include several images of eps format in latex. After latex command, there are some of the images missing in the dvi file. Not sure if it is related to the image size, most of the images missing have size around 83kB while those shown up have a size less than 40kB. After conversion from dvi to ps, the images are all back. Just wonder what is the reason causing the images missing in dvi file? Thanks and regards!

    I'd like to export plotting symbols form R as a png graphic. But I haven't found a perfect way yet. Using png("symbol.png",width=20, height=20, bg="transparent") par(mar=c(0,0,0,0)) plot.new() symbols(1, 1, circles=0.3, bg=2, inches=FALSE, lwd=2, bty="n") dev.off() creates a little border around the symbol (I'd like it to be transparent) and the symbol isn't filling the whole space. Is there a more specific way of doing this ?

However Interface Builder rescales the button to account for whitespace underneath the symbol so I can't get the image to fill the button completely.
