  • How to exit a process run with C++ if it takes more than 5 seconds?

    I'm implementing a checking system in C++. It runs executables with different tests. If the solution is not correct, it can take forever for it to finish with certain hard tests. That's why I want to limit the execution time to 5 seconds. I'm using system() function to run executables: system("./solution"); .NET has a great WaitForExit() method, what about native C++?. I'm also using Qt, so Qt-based solutions are welcome. So is there a way to limit external process' execution time to 5 seconds? Thanks

  • Installing chrome in Centos 6.2 (Final)

    I need to install chrome in a dedicated centos server where I only access via ssh, it doesn't have X or any windows graphical stuff. I need it to be able to pack extensions using google-chrome --pack-extension. I tried adding this to /etc/yum.repos.d/google.repo [google-chrome] name=google-chrome - 32-bit baseurl=http://dl.google.com/linux/chrome/rpm/stable/i386 enabled=1 gpgcheck=1 gpgkey=https://dl-ssl.google.com/linux/linux_signing_key.pub And then yum install google-chrome-stable, but there's a huge list of dependencies problems: How can I install chrome without breaking anything else?   • How do I fix Google Earth 6.2.2 theme and fonts in 12.04?

    Here is the problem. I would like to know how to get Google Earth using better fonts with anti-aliasing for English and Japanese. Don't know what these fonts are but they are hideous and completely different from my system fonts or Libre Office fonts or even QT apps like VLC and MiniTube. I'm using 12.04 LTS 32bit and almost had complete success with the 11.10 fix posted here Google Earth and Skype theme the theme and fonts will show up correctly for about 5 seconds before the program crashes.

  • MythTV lost recordings - "No recordings available" and no recording rules either

    I have a c.6 year old mythtv database. I recently upgraded from Ubuntu 10.04 to 12.04. This brought a MythTV upgrade from 0.24 to 0.25, which went well. Today, all my recordings have disappeared. They still exist in the /var/lib/mythtv/recordings folder, and the 'M' key in the Watch Recordings page says that there are 201 recordings available somewhere, but they will not display. See screenshot: (implicit thanks to whomever upvoted this, giving me sufficient reputation to upload images) Changing the filter does not remedy the fact that there is nothing shown in the lists.   • Suggestion for a hybrid Gnome-Kde Distro.

    After years of working on various Desktop Environments, i have come to the conclusion , that there are some KDE (qt) applications, which have no GTK equivalent. Can anyone please suggest a hybrid Gnome-KDE Distro having lots of apps installed by default. I have a slow- unreliable internet connection, so downloading large amounts of data would be aproblem. Linux Mint would have been my first choice, unfortunately the amount af apps bundled by default is quite limited.

    I understand this is a may be a very premature question given that the current build is for testing Ubuntu Core, but I have just bought a Nexus7 to join in with this Ubuntu on mobile adventure and can't help wanting to start writing some apps!   • Would like to change audio codec, but keep video settings with ffmpeg

    I have a video for which I'd like to convert the audio codec to AAC 320 kbps / 44.100 kHz. What would I use for ffmpeg switches such that all the video settings and codec remain the same, but only the audio codec and settings change?     After a recent kernel panic & restart, Spotlight no longer seems to know anything about the files under my /Applications folder. I used to launch Safari.app, Opera.app, Textedit.app, etc via Spotlight as a matter of routine. Now, I get "No results found" for all of them (except Textedit.app, which launches a demo text editor from a Qt installation). The programs are still there & still launch directly from Finder. I've already run disk utility & verified the disk, no issues. I repaired disk permissions, which made several changes, but to no effect. Is there anything else I can do, short of re-installing MacOS? Update: I already verified that "Applications" was still checked in my Spotlight preferences. It was still returning applications located elsewhere (the Qt textedit sample app), so that shouldn't have been the issue. A few hours later it resolved itself; I guess there's a background process running on some interval.

  • Context Menu Shell Extension not working under Windows 7 64-bit

    I created very simple Context Menu using Shell Extension in C#. It works fine under Windows XP 32 bit but under Windows 7 64 bits menu items not appearing. I tried to build Setup output to x64 but no effect. Simple Source contains ContextMenu and Setup project is under http://bit.ly/9nGd41 Looks like Wow6432 should be handled by Setup project, same for registration and adding to Global Assembly Cache I would be appreciate for help / suggestions with this issue.

  • How can I prevent ListBox from selecting an item when I right-click it?

    The tricky part is that each item has a ContextMenu that I still want to open when it is right-clicked (I just don't want it selecting it). In fact, if it makes things any easier, I don't want any automatic selection at all, so if there's some way I can disable it entirely that would be just fine. I'm thinking of just switching to an ItemsControl actually, so long as I can get virtualization and scrolling to work with it.
