• Cisco 350 Bridge vxWorks connecting to IOS

  I have 2 bridges one is a Cisco 350 Bridge with vxWorks as a non-root bridge w/o clients and another Cisco 350 Bridge running IOS set as Root Bridge. It seems no matter what configuration I can't seem to associate the vxworks to the IOS bridge. I have even tried swapping the roles and they still do not communicate. Any ideas how I can make the two connect, I would have upgraded the 350 to IOS as well but it will not upgrade. From my research it appears there is no way for these two devices to communicate but I wanted to be sure of that.

• How can I run my program on a large number of computers? [closed]

  I'm looking for a (preferably free) service for running an executable I wrote? It's not malicious, it's not a virus, it's not scam, and if this is really important I can upload the python source code instead. I wrote a small crawler to gather information regarding the style of web pages for my MA project, and I need a lot more data. EDIT Here is more information on my problem and how I approach on solving it, and where I'm stuck. As part of my research I'm trying to classify text based on it's style (font-family for now), my data is based web pages, so I wrote a client/server application - the client is a crawler that gathers this data and send it to the server. The problem is that like 99% of the internet is Arial, Verdana and Helvetica - other fonts are far more rare, so I need to spend very long time to gather enough data regarding these fonts. • App pool gets stuck on reset and takes .net pages out

  Several times after our app pool has been told to reset, it gets stuck, the .net pages go down and the following error appears in the application event log: Failed to execute request because the App-Domain could not be created. Error: 0x80070057 The parameter is incorrect. Our app pool is scheduled to automatically reset at 4am, so the errors stay up until we manually restart the app pool. Has anyone else encountered the error or know of any solutions? Research has suggested it's a permissions issue, but the permissions don't change and the error happens infrequently. The site has no other permission based problems and the app pool identity has permission where needed.

• Can't connect to Internet through WiFi, but can with cable

  I'm using Windows 7 32-bit, Toshiba Portege laptop. I want to connect to the WiFi, usually I can do that easily. But, I don't know.. maybe when I tried to install a Microsoft Research: Mesh Virtual WiFi that could connect more than 2 wireless networks. I wanna try in connecting both Wireless router and my personal Ad-Hoc. Now, my laptop don't recognize my WiFi, well, I can connect to the WiFi but it says: "Limited access" and doesn't really connect to the internet. But when I plug the LAN cable, it works. I know the problem is in the laptop's wireless connection or in the properties. Any help for this? UPDATE: The IP and DNS settings, I set to automatic, and when I ran diagnostic, Windows tells me that the wireless network adapter is the problem, but they told me to insert the LAN cable, so how to fix the wireless? They didn't tell me how to fix that.

• Organize code in Chef: libraries, classes and resources

  I am new to both Chef and Ruby and I am implementing some scripts to learn them. Now I am facing the problem of how to organize my code: I have created a class in the library directory and I have used a custom namespace to maintain order. EP::MyTools.copy_file "/etc", "passwd" print_something works fine, but with copy_file I get this error: undefined method `cookbook_file' for Chef::Recipe::EP::FileTools:Class It's clear to me that I don't know how to create libraries in Chef or I don't know some basic assumptions. Can anyone help me, please? I am looking for a solution of this problem (organize my code, libraries, use resources in classes) or, better, a good Chef documentation as I find the documentation very deficient in clarity and disorganized so that research through it is a pain.

• How do I transfer videos from DV camera to divx?

  I have a videocamera that uses mini-dv tapes. In the past, I've transferred the files and made DVDs, but that was time- and disk-space- consuming. I wanted to find new tools and to figure out how to convert the videos to something smaller like divx but I didn't know enough about all the different formats to answer a previous question. Well, now I've done a bunch of research and I understand some of the details of video encoding, and in the process I wrote up some notes on the different formats involved in going from a DV videocam to divx or H.264 They're a bit rambling, but in case it's of any use, I'm going to post them as an answer. I'd be very interested in anyone else's answer as well.

  Does anyone know about a webcam photo application (ie an alternative to photo booth) with would allow to change the settings on the camera, such as : Select camera (I.e I want to use an external webcam) Change camera resolution (with photobooth change camera settings (I.e autofocus, aperture, color balance, etc..) I did a lot of research on the internet with no success. I am looking for a very simple app (such as wmcap.exe on Windows) What I tried so far: photo booth: it works with an external camera, however there is no way to change the resolution, or the color/focus settings manycam : a virtual webcam driver. you can add special effects to your camera and transfer those effects to any app, but not change your camera settings... iGlasses : enables you to change the camera settings inside photo booth and other apps. However you cannot control the focus, nor the video resolution macam (did not work on my Mac book Pro) Does anyone know better than me? Note : my only solution now is to launch a virtual machine (with parallels desktop) and take the pictures from there!

Everytime my ssh private key is used I need to enter my password. This is neither secure nor comfortable. I have done comprehensive research on the net but only found out dated documentation. Several things I tried didn't work out. Current status: SSH setup working with direct passphrase input ssh-agent running in X session $SSH_AUTH_SOCK set to ssh-agent's socket in X session How to enable ssh-agent for keeping the passphrase in memory for ~15mins and as a bonus always use a graphical dialog for its input? I use asymmetric SSH key pairs for pushing/pulling in Git VCS logging remotely into different server systems

• How to open a TrueCrypt volume quickly on a Mac?

  Whenever I need to access data stored in the TrueCrypt-protected volume on my MacBook, I need to start TrueCrypt from the Dock, select the volume file, click mount, enter the password and then open a Finder window and browse to the volume. I want a quicker way, e.g. double-click something on the desktop (and/or press a hotkey combination), enter the password and have a Finder window pop up. I have done an extensive research on the TrueCrypt website, Apple Automator and some other approaches, but nothing really seems come up. Has anyone realized the approach described ?

• OOF (Out of Office) is not working for remote users (Outlook Anywhere)

  I'm not sure how long this issue has been happening, but recently a few of the remote sales users were going to a sales meeting and wanted to set their Out of Office... however in Outlook 2010, they get this error message: "Your automatic reply settings cannot be displayed because the server is currently unavailable" When I run the Exchange Remote Connectivity Analyzer, Autodiscover completes fine, but the next step fails: Exception details: Message: The request failed. The remote server returned an error: (403) Forbidden.   Need to block access to certain website types without listing each URL to block. Students at secondary school are going to porn sites. Need to be able to block all such access without having to list each possible site URL. Having the Content -- Ratings tab set to None for all categories on the ratings files listed on my computers does not prevent access. Unchecking users may access sites with no rating, even with the security settings set to High, still allows the porn sites to come up. If that is checked, then ONLY listed sites can open and students would not be able to do any research via google, for example. I would rather not have to continue checking each computer and blocking sites as they find them.

• Dust prevention for home servers [closed]

  I found some posts on here about dealing with dust relating to servers but nothing that specifically addressed my question. I have several servers at home for research and as you can probably guess they are not cheap. It is impossible for me to remove 100% of the dust from my home as much as I may try. Does anyone know of any practical solutions to filtering the air that will go into the servers? For instance maybe place some sort of material over the bezel to catch dust particles before they enter? I realize the ideal home solution would be to have a small room with environmental controls but I'm not there yet. Thanks!

• Why does Oracle SQL Developer take so long to open?

  I think anyone who's used Oracle SQL Developer will agree that it's painfully slow on the load. My research has lead me to a solution that seems to have helped a little, and that's telling OSQLD not to check for updates on startup. However, it still takes several minutes to open. What could OSQLD possibly be doing during load time? Is there any way get it to open right away? • Cannot Delete an Empty Folder in Windows 7

  I've used this question's answer by user "Moab" to give myself permission to delete an empty folder, so that I no longer get "accessed denied". However, now when I try removing this folder, I get a message that says "The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process." This is merely my "eclipse" (IDE) folder that I totally emptied out and am trying to delete, but for some reason cannot. I've tried quite a few things: Via Windows Explorer: Right Click - Delete Via Command Prompt RD /S /Q eclipse del /F eclipse rmdir /S eclipse I'm out of ideas, and I'd really like to delete this folder without having to install any software. I've done a bit of research and this is all I found that I could try. Does anyone have any other ideas?

• What is the best time to schedule regular updates on inhouse production server?

  Given an inhouse server running in production mode I would like to keep the impact on the users as low as possible when deploying regular updates (to the server itself, not the user machines .. but that would be a pretty similar problem). The obvious answer to my question is "at night, when the users are at home". But "night" is a long period of time. Should one start early in the evening to perhaps catch problems with the update early on and be ready to rollback? Or is it better to start early in the morning and use the first users as "guinea pigs" to faster trigger the problems? Or in the middle of the night when the concentration of the one overseeing the update is pretty low but it is guaranteed to have no open file handles of some late working users? Are there any research papers on the topic?

• How can I print legible text in a font size <1.5?

  For biological research, I need to print characters so tiny that 2 of them fit in less than 0.5 mm, which I will read under a microscope. I am currently printing from Excel at font size of 1.5, using a HP LaserJet 400M. The result is slightly larger than what I need it to be, but printing at size 1 produces unreadable results. How can I print a smaller font size but still get readable results? Are there specialized printers for that? Where could I find one?

  I'd like to retrieve the following stats from rsnapshot files synced added files modded files deleted files Is there a feature to retrieve these in rsnapshot, or is there another product that's able to do it? EDIT: As requested, I'll try to show that I'm not just asking what I want to do without any research. I wasn't able to locate any rsnapshot feature doing this. Maybe I'm searching in a wrong direction. So, I've built a not very pretty script, called each time before rsnapshot is ran. This Perl script stores each file MD5, in order to compare backup files structures between rsnapshot updates. I'm pretty sure it's worthless to show this code here. I think that keeping an eye on what change on a server, for example, is a useful feature. So, I'm asking. @pauska Most of the time, I'm trying to search for an answer myself, which is not the case here. Thanks

• How can I view and sort after the page count for multiple PDF files in a Windows file explorer?

  I unsuccessfully used the "pages" feature in Windows Explorer, as well as in Directory Opus 10 and Free Commander XT (which I installed just for that reason, to try it out) to display the page count of multiple PDFs in a folder. All my PDF's are free to edit, i.e. not write-protected. I don't understand why any PDF reader can display the (correct) page number, but none of the file explorers can? (In the "details" view of course.) The only documents whose page count is displayed are MS Word documents. Do I have to use Adobe Bridge? (I didn't try it.) On a side-note: Did that change in Windows 8? Initial research: Google search was unsuccessful, the only slightly related SE topic I found was "How to count pages in multiple PDF files?".

• Backup windows image to thumb drive?

  I recently bought a new netbook from Malasia. It doesn't have a brand name, or officially supporting drivers. It came with a version of windows, and working drivers for all the hardware - but I want to install Ubuntu on here. Being a netbook, it has no CD/DVD drive. I want some free easy to use software to image the entire drive onto a thumb drive, which I could later use to boot up a recovery program to reinstall windows, should I fail to get all the hardware supported on Linux. I have already done some research and found driver backup/restore software in this thread, and will probably use that failing a more all-encompasing solution.

• Getting Steam.exe to run through a http proxy

  I'm sitting behind an http proxy which Steam refuses to go through. Trying Proxifier to fix the solution rendered an error about having to use an https proxy, though research shows that it shouldn't need one. Is it possible to make a target parameter in a shortcut? ie. "C:\Program Files\Steam\Steam.exe" --http-proxy=myusername:mypassword@SERVERNAME:8080 I have the server name and port number, though I'm yet to understand the relevance of 'myusername:mypassword', or infact which username and password these instructions were referring to. Of course, if a target parameter wouldn't work, would there be another way to get Steam to work?

• Windows 8 Program Sharing?

  How do I, as the administrator, share the Skype program with a user on the same PC? I tried to download Skype to the user from the windows store that said it was blocked and I must contact the administrator. The Skype icon appears on the user desktop but with an X in the corner with no way to allow it to work as the administrator. In the administrator desktop the Skype icon appears without the x and it does work. I have tried to research this issue and so far all I have been able to find and do is the enable $admin share at this link http://www.intelliadmin.com/index.php/2012/10/windows-8-enable-the-admin-share/ Now that I have done this how do I use it to share the Skype program? Nick Kavadias gave a good answer but it did not provide an explanation on how to configure the Nagios config file in such a way that it would monitor a specific service on the server. So, how do I set up a service in Nagios in such a way that it will detect when a windows event occurs on a server?
