• Silverlight running in IE kiosk mode

  Hi, We are having a weird problem where by we are running a silveright application in IE8 kiosk mode, the shortcut is added to windows startup. The silverlight app runs on localhost. It all works fine until you reboot, IE displays "navigation to the webpage was canceled" when it loads. Yet the shortcut works fine, if you close IE and manually go into the startup folder and run the shortcut, or run the same shortcut from the desktop. I assume there is some sort of timing issue but have no idea what. Tried using 127.0.0.1 instead of localhost incase DNS hadn't been properly initialised at that point or something. Maybe an IIS initialisation problem? Anyone have any ideas? Thanks for your time

  My project is in early development. I frequently delete the database and run manage.py syncdb to set up my app from scratch. Unfortunately, this always pops up: You just installed Django's auth system, which means you don't have any superusers defined. Would you like to create one now? (yes/no): Then you have supply a username, valid email adress and password. This is tedious. I'm getting tired of typing test\[email protected]\ntest\ntest\n. How can I automatically skip this step and create a user programatically when running manage.py syncdb ?

• iPhone app running in Instruments fails with unrecognized selector

  I have an app that appears to run without problems in normal use. The Clang Static Analyzer reports no problems either. When I try to run it in Instruments, it fails with an unrecognized selector exception. The offending line is a simple property setter of the form: self.bar = baz; To figure out what's going on, I added an NSLog() call immediately above it: NSLog(@"class = %@ responds = %d", [self class], [self respondsToSelector:@selector(setBar:)]); self.bar = baz; On the emulator (without Instruments) and on a device, this shows exactly what I'd expect: class = Foo responds = 1 When running under Instruments, I get: class = Foo responds = 0 I'm stumped as to what could cause this. Perhaps a different memory location is getting tromped on when it's in the Instruments environment? Can anyone suggest how I might debug this?

• Parse error when trying to install app on Asus eee PC 701 running Android 2.0

  A beta tester of mine has a Asus eee pc 701 running Android 2.0 and he is trying to install an app on it from my web site. He is able to download the app but is getting a "Parse Error: There is a problem parsing the package" error. I don't really know if this problem is with the eee pc or with the apk since he is the first person to try to install it. I built it for 2.0, the manifest has 5 as the minimum API level and I used Eclipse to export and sign it. But this is my first Android app and he is the first to try to install it, so I am not sure what the problem might be? Could just be the Android implementation too.   Hi, I am getting this error in my terminal when i execute the command above, Deans-MacBook:depot dean$ rake db:create RAILS_ENV='development' (in /Users/dean/src/RailsBook/depot) Couldn't create database for {"username"=>"root", "adapter"=>"mysql", "database"=>"depot_development", "host"=>"localhost", "password"=>nil}, charset: utf8, collation: utf8_unicode_ci (if you set the charset manually, make sure you have a matching collation) In database config file i have the following: development: adapter: mysql database: depot_development username: root password: host: localhost I have the mysql gem installed and now i am unsure on what to do next. • Datacontracts property getter running twice

  I have a set of data contracts that act as wrappers to base classes that we wish to expose. A quick example is: [DataMember] public List<decimal> Points { get { return sourceObject.ListPoints(); } private set{} } We have some other properties that we have to massage the data first (we are converting object graphs and need to guard against circular references). The issue that we are seeing is that this getter will fire twice, once within the service operation, then again during serialization. This is causing two problems: We manually add to collections, since this is running twice the collections are filled with dupes. If an exception is thrown during the second run, it happens outside of the try/catch in the operation, and does not throw a fault. The service throws a cryptic timeout message, and the only way to see the error is via WCF trace logs.

  Hi, My C#.NET application is running much slower when the exe is located on the network. And I'm talking about everything, even the graphical dispay is slower. For example: when a form is already loaded, if I unplug my network cable and minimize and maximize the window, it takes a very long time to redraw itself. I'm using framework .NET 3.5 SP1. Any idea on the cause? My hypothesis so far: I'm missing some options when building the app? my corporate antivirus checks more stuff because the exe is on the network the cache of Windows XP SP3 doesn't work the same way when the exe is on the network the server is a Novell server: maybe this does change something ? For running a JAR file I am using a command-line window and executing the following command: java -jar helloworld.jar By using this command I can execute the JAR file. But instead of doing it in a command-line window, I want to execute the JAR file if I double click on the JAR file. I did some Google search for this. But I cannot do this. For this do I need to install any software? Can any one provide me help on this?

• Running mongod as a windows service

  Hello, i have installed mongodb on win32 and i am trying to run it as a service. I have followed the instructions posted here: http://www.deltasdevelopers.com/post/Running-MongoDB-as-a-Windows-Service.aspx but when when windows tries to 'load'/'run' the service there is a problem. I see the service under the services control banner constantly in the 'starting' state. The result: the service is not started and windows is constantly trying to start it without success. The instructions i have followed are: At the command line C:\mongodb\mongod -install then C:\mongodb\mongod -service Then i modified the Win Registry Entry for the MongoDB Service by setting the ImagePath key to the value of C:\mongodb\mongodb.exe -service Any advice? What am i doing wrong?

• Unit Testing in QTestLib - running single test / tests in class / all tests

  I'm just starting to use QTestLib. I have gone through the manual and tutorial. Although I understand how to create tests, I'm just not getting how to make those tests convenient to run. My unit test background is NUnit and MSTest. In those environments, it was trivial (using a GUI, at least) to alternate between running a single test, or all tests in a single test class, or all tests in the entire project, just by clicking the right button. All I'm seeing in QTestLib is either you use the QTEST_MAIN macro to run the tests in a single class, then compile and test each file separately; or use QTest::qExec() in main() to define which objects to test, and then manually change that and recompile when you want to add/remove test classes. I'm sure I'm missing something. I'd like to be able to easily: Run a single test method Run the tests in an entire class Run all tests Any of those would call the appropriate setup / teardown functions.

• iPhone: NSOperationQueue running operations serially

  I have a singleton NSOperationQueue that handles all of my network requests. I'm noticing, however, that when I have one particularly long operation running (this particular operation takes at least 25 seconds), my other operations don't run until it completes. maxConcurrentOperationCount is set to NSOperationQueueDefaultMaxConcurrentOperationCount, so I don't believe that's the issue. Any reason why this would be happening? Besides spawning multiple NSOperationQueues (a solution that I'm not sure would work, nor am I sure it's a good idea), what's the best way to fix this problem? • Running directx samples on a Windows Mobile 6.1 device

  I tried to run the directx samples from ..\Windows Mobile 6 SDK\Samples\PocketPC\CPP\win32\directx\d3dm\tutorials on a Samsung Omnia and on the emulator and it doesn't work because of a deployment error. I am using Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 and have installed Windows Mobile SDK Standard and Professional refresh. The device is correctly plugged in and set up for active sync (I know this because other samples work, also a creating Win32 smart device and running it works). When I try to run the application it compiles without errors but the message: " There were deployment errors, Continue? Yes/No" appears If I manually copy the application from the debug folder to the device and run it from there, it works. The same deployment error message appears if I try it on an emulator. Other applications are deploying successfully. Is there any way to make the deployment work? Maybe there is an obscure option I need to set...

• Trouble with Powershell and running a complex commandline

  Hi, I've been trying to run the following command line from a Powershell build script we have; but keep running into issues & 'C:\Dev\Yadda\trunk\BuildScripts\U tilities\csmanage.exe' /create-deployme nt /name:yadddayaddyaddadev /label:yadddayaddyaddadev /package:https://yadddayaddyadda.blob.core.windows.net/mydeployments/20100426_202848_FamilyMoments.cspk g /config:C:\Dev\WalmartOne\trunk\yadddayaddyadda.CloudService\bin\Debug\ServiceCon figuration.cscfg /slot:Staging /hosted-service:yadddayaddyadda-dev" Note: the space in "Utilities" is intentional; trying to snif out a bug involving spaces in the executable path. I assure you, the path does exist with the space in it on my machine. What's the best way to call this command line from Powershell? I've tried Invoke-Expression, Diagnostic.Process::Start, &; each method coming up with some different type of error; usually that it could find the executable. Any constructive input is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

• Sequel Migration not running up?

  Having some trouble with the Migrations in Sequel and could use another set of eyes. I am running a migration that looks ok but no table is created. It is definitely connecting because I can see the schema_info table has been created. -M 0/1 changes the version as you would expect but still no table. • Visual Studio Web Application edit source while running like in Tomcat\Eclipse\Java

  In an ASP.NET Web Site project, I've always been able to make changes to the underlying C# code and simply refresh the page in the browser and my changes would be there instantly. I can do the same thing when working with Java and Eclipse - edit my Java source and refresh the page and my changes are there. I cannot do this in ASP.NET MVC though and it is a real downer - I have to stop the running process and make my changes, and then restart debugging. This is a huge waste of time. Am I doing it wrong? What is the best approach to ASP.NET MVC development?

• Apache is running but there is no page displayed

  I am on a Mac OSX and I am using the built in PHP and Apache2. I have been setting up MySQL and finally when I got MySQL working my local site won't display. Do note that I did have the web server running and delivering PHP enabled pages, just no database connection. But my question is not about MySQL. I have changed various settings in the 'http.conf' file, and I have the line: '127.0.0.1 localhost' in my hosts file. I also have other alias' pointing to 127.0.0.1. I have checked everything I could about Apache and I have made sure that any message in the error_log is ok. I currently have my errorLevel set to debug, so I get all the messages. At this point (HOURS of self fixing) I think I need help. What can I provide for someone to figure this out with me. Thanks.

• Need an ASP.NET MVC long running process with user feedback

  I've been trying to create a controller in my project for delivering what could turn out to be quite complex reports. As a result they can take a relatively long time and a progress bar would certainly help users to know that things are progressing. The report will be kicked off via an AJAX request, with the idea being that periodic JSON requests will get the status and update the progress bar. I've been experimenting with the AsyncController as that seems to be a nice way of running long processes without tying up resources, but it doesn't appear to give me any way of checking on the progress (and seems to block further JSON requests and I haven't discovered why yet). After that I've tried resorting to storing progress in a static variable on the controller and reading the status from that - but to be honest that all seems a bit hacky! All suggestions gratefully accepted!

• Controlling maximum Java standalone running in Linux

  Hi, We've developed a Java standalone program. We've configured in our Linux (RedHat ES 4) cron schedule to execute this Java standalone every 10 minutes. Each standalone may sometime take more than 1 hour to complete, or sometime it may complete even within 5 minutes. My problem/solution I'm looking for is, the number of Java standalones executing at any time should not exceed, for example, 5 threads. So, for example, before even a Java standalone/thread starts, if there are already 5 threads running, then this thread should not be started; otherwise this would indirectly start creating OutOfMemoryError problems. How do I control this? I would also like to make this 5 thread as configurable. Other Information: I've also configured -Xms and -Xmx heap size settings. Is there any tool/mechanism by which we can control this? I also heard about Java Service Wrapper. What is this all about?

• Cleaning up temp folder after long-running subprocess exits

  I have a Python script (running inside another application) which generates a bunch of temporary images. I then use subprocess to launch an application to view these. When the image-viewing process exists, I want to remove the temporary images. I can't do this from Python, as the Python process may have exited before the subprocess completes. I.e I cannot do the following: p = subprocess.Popen(["imgviewer", "/example/image1.jpg", "/example/image1.jpg"]) p.communicate() os.unlink("/example/image1.jpg") os.unlink("/example/image2.jpg") ..as this blocks the main thread, nor could I check for the pid exiting in a thread etc The only solution I can think of means I have to use shell=True, which I would rather avoid: cmd = ['imgviewer'] cmd.append("/example/image2.jpg") for x in cleanup: cmd.extend(["&&", "rm", x]) cmdstr = " ".join(cmd) subprocess.Popen(cmdstr, shell = True) This works, but is hardly elegant, and will fail with filenames containing spaces etc.. Basically, I have a background subprocess, and want to remove the temp files when it exits, even if the Python process no longer exists.

  I am getting an error whenever i try to run following unzip command from a python script which is running as a daemon Command : unzip abcd.zip /dev/null Error End-of-central-directory signature not found$ a zip file, or it constitutes one disk of a multi-part archive. In the latter case the central directory and zipfile comment will be found on the last disk(s) of this archive unzip: cannot find zipfile directory in one of abcd.zip$ abcd.zip.zip, and cannot find abcd.zip.ZIP, period. • JQUERY-UI Draggables - Seralize is running before the Draggable is complete

  Hello, I'm using the JQUERY-UI draggable plugin. As a setting, when the Draggable is done, using the STOP setting I run a function to seralize a list of LIs to get their order in terms of their IDs. For example, if I have an UL, with a list of LIs with the following IDs: 1,2,3,4,5 If I then move 5, between 2&3, the seralize is returning: 1,2,5,3,4,5 Which makes me think that the JQUERY UI-Draggable STOP is running before the page is finished rendering, or the DOM isn't update? Any ideas on how I can fix this from happening. Is there something I can do in my Seralize funtion to say, wait till JQUERY animations are all done, or stop all that are going on to ensure the DOM is accurate? Thanks

• Running log operation in Http Modules?

  Hi, I have a simple requirement in which I want to execute a long running application program on server (e.g. DTSX) I want to make an HTTP module for this, But I have a question whether the DTSX will run even if the user closes the page and browser. In my case user hits the handler with a query string but what if the user closes the browser immediately? How is the behavior different from simple linear page processing? I want my DTSX package to finish once its started no matter how much time it takes and also dont want to halt the user that is why I am using http modules in place of linear asp page processing.
