  • I have a new seagate 3tb hard drive and when i installed it it says 349gb free

    my new seagate sata drive keeps showing as a 249gb drive but in the setup part when i press del at the boot up it states there a 3000gb drive and i have searched for a solution but havent found one yet. I havent tried in a different pc yet and I have an asus gaming board with 2 video cards sli'ed and i have windows 7 ultimate 64 bit with 8gb ram and a hp 23" widescreen monitor and the sniper gaming case and a salitek lighted up gaming keyboard and a razor death adder gaming mouse and a corsair 850 watt power supply. Any help would be great and appriciated

  • Sony Vegas: minimal audio glitches

    When doing video-editing with Sony Vegas, I noticed that it kind of produces minimal audio glitches very often. With glitch, I mean a copied fragment of approximately 1/2 second, as if I copied it and directly pasted it again. I'm assuming it must be something with puffers. Does anyone know of this problem? I have a pretty fast Windows 7 system with fast SATA drives.

    Hi Guys, I'm having an issue where after the server has been up for a period of time (~week/few days) the server will start reading corrupt data. For instance when I run a sha1sum of a file after a fresh boot it remains the same. However after a while I will start to get segfaults and from then on whenever I read this file I get a different sha1sum.   • OS Missing? Messed up the MBR on Win7 64-bit

    I have a Windows 7 machine with two hard drives: a 1TB C: drive and 500GB J:. I had Windows XP installed on C: and Windows 7 installed on J:. I installed Windows 7 after Windows XP from an installer .exe I (legally) bought and downloaded. It, and all of my other files, are sitting on my J: drive intact. While under my Windows 7 install, a few days ago I decided to use Priform's CCleaner and use its DriveWipe utility to wipe the C: drive. 1% into the process, I cancelled and attempted to use it again. It gives me an error saying it can't format the drive, so I poke around the Internet a bit, give up, and restart my computer. I first get an "OS is missing" error after the computer boots past the BIOS. I downloaded and put UBCD on a bootable USB to use another drivewiping tool to completely erase the C: drive, hoping it'll take the problem with it. No luck. I try to use TestDisk to make my J: my primary active drive, but no luck. I still get the "OS is missing" error. Or sometimes it'll hang at Verifying DMI Pool. Or sometimes I'll get the "NTLDR is missing" error. I get hold of Hiren's and put it on another bootable USB. I first I tried the Boot Windows 7 from Hard Drive option, and I get "Error 15: File Not Found". I tried the "Fix 'NTLDR is Missing'" option (I'm not quite sure why this is even showing up, since I'm trying to get into a HDD with Windows 7 installed. Probably messed up somewhere when I used TestDisk) and I get this list: I'll run through the error messages I get: 1st Try - Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \system32\hal.dll 2nd Try - Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \system32\ntoskrnl.exe 3rd Try - Windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem. Could not read from the selected boot disk. Check boot path and disk hardware. 4th - 8th Try - Same as #3 9th Try - I/O Error accessing boot sector file multi(0)disk(0)fdisk(0)\BOOTSEC.DOS. And computer freezes. 10th Try - computer restarts Needless to say, not a single one of those works. I then tried to open up the Windows 7 exe I have sitting on my J: from the Mini-XP OS on Hiren's, but it won't run because I'm trying to run a 64-bit file from a 32-bit exe. At least, that's the problem according to these guys: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/...-b2f54e9c7d18/ I then borrowed a 64-bit Windows Home Premium CD from a friend to get to the recovery options. But I get the error message: This version of System Recovery Options is not compatible with the version of Windows you are trying to repair. Try using a recovery disc that is compatible with this version of Windows. I pressed Shift + F10 to get to the Command Prompt directly. These are the exact steps I took from there (paraphrased a little): X:\Sources>bootrec /Fixmbr The operation completed successfully. X:\Sources>bootrec /Fixboot The operation completed successfully. I restarted my computer, but it still didn't work. I unplugged the C: drive, then tried bootrec and Diskpart: X:\Sources> bootrec.exe X:\Sources> bootrec /RebuildBcd Total identified Windows installations: 1 [1] \\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolume1\Windows Add installation to bootlist? Yes(Y)/No(N)/All(A):y The requested system device cannot be found.   • After adding a SSD to my MacBook, the HD never spins down.

    I added a SSD to my MacBook Pro 17 as the primary drive attached to the SATA controller. I moved the HD to the optical bay using the OptiBay from MCE Technologies which I use for my home directory. The problem I have encountered is the HD seems to never stop spinning. I have modified the sleep settings, hoping one of the various options would solve my problem without success. Any suggestions for me?

  • PSU died, is hard drive fried? Are other components damaged?

    After discovering and replacing my dead PSU, I was able to boot back into Windows. Everything seems to be working fine, however, one hard drive is not. Windows 7 says that this SATA hard drive needs to be formatted before it can work. Can the data be recovered? Also, is there a way to check the integrity of the other components of my computer or assume they will work fine?

  • System beeps continuously if both RAM sticks inserted

    I have two sticks of OCZ 2GB PC2 9600 RAM. When I attempt to boot with both sticks inserted, I am met with a continuous string of system beeps (and no bootup). The system boots fine when only one stick is inserted, but obviously that leaves me with less RAM than I'd like to have. What could the problem be?   • Suggestions for splitting server roles amongst Hyper-V virtual servers / RAID6 or RAID10? / AppAssure

    We have 2 Hyper-V hosts at present running 1 virtual server that was converted from a physical box running all roles. My plan is to split the roles over various virtual machines, upgrading to the latest software versions as I go, and use the backup server as a standby in case the main server fails. AppAssure backup software has a feature called Virtual Standby, so the VHD's can be ready to be fired up on the backup server if necessary. Off-site backups will be done via external USB drive for now. I'm just seeking some input/suggestions into how I'm planning to split the roles out amongst various virtual servers. Also, I'm curious how to setup the storage on the servers. We do not have any NAS's, SAN'S or any budget for this. What would the best RAID level be to use? I'm thinking either RAID6 (which is currently used) however I'm concerned about the write speeds, or RAID10 but again I'm worried that I can only lose 1 drive (from the same mirror) as opposed to any 2 with RAID6. I realise I have a hot swap for this, but what if a further drive fails during a rebuild? Is the write penalty of RAID6 worth the extra reliability over RAID10? Or will it be too slow with all the roles I am planning, therefore RAID10 is my only real option? The reason for the needed redundancy is I am the only technician and I'm not always on-site. Options I've considered: 1) 5 drives in RAID6 set, 200gb for host OS, rest for VM storage. 1 drive for hot swap - this is how it is currently setup 2) 4 drives in RAID10 set, 200gb for host OS, rest for VM storage. 2 drives for hot swap 3) 4 drives in RAID10 set for VM storage, 2 drives in RAID1 set for host OS. No drives for hot swap - While this is probably the best option with the amount of drives I have, I don't like the idea of having no hot swap 4) 3 drives in RAID6 set for VM storage, 2 drives in RAID1 set for host OS. 1 drive for hot swap All options give us enough storage capacity for our files, etc. We don't have any budget for extra drives or extra hot swap HD chassis for the servers. We have about 70 clients and about 150 users. If you search for a bit, you can find several forums with people having problems, but of course forums don't get updated when resolutions to those problems are found. Then it comes to the partition/harddrive selection screen, I only see my usb flash stick. I'm at my wits end with this problem. I need to install xp.

Is it possible to create such a device with Linux, a few disks and an FC controller, using the controller in the reverse direction than usual? This would come handy to test some ideas and concepts in an emerging SAN environment.
