  • Unusual Caching Issue with IE 7/8 and IIS 7

    We recently moved a site into production running Server 2008 x64 and IIS 7. The ASP.NET pages apparently load just fine, but when it comes to IE 7 and 8, a weird caching issue has cropped up with the CSS and JavaScript files on the page. On a very sporadic schedule, IE does not get all the files necessary to compose the page (i.e. CSS and JS files). When I manually go to the missing files from the address bar, they come back from local cache as empty. I F5 these source files and magically they come down properly. I refresh the site after loading a few files and the cache seems to hold. This problem has only been reproduced (again, sporadically) on IE 7 and 8 running XP. Chrome and Firefox appear to be immune. We have set IIS to use server-side kernel caching for CSS, JS and images. We also have set to expire content for the App_Themes and Scripts directories to expire immediately. One initial thought it was a SWF loading an FLV on page load. These fixes have not remedied the problem. We had no problems on our staging server which is using Server 2003 and IIS 6. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. P.S.   • Change UIButton Background Image more than once per second

    I am currently working with the iPhone SDK. I have a NSTimer that changes the background image of a UIButton. Once this is complete, it will trigger the same action again (reset the NSTimer) for a predetermined number of times. My problem is that if my NSTimer is set to execute more than once per second. (0.75, say) The background image wont change. I am using NSLog to check that the event fires. But the button image will just remain in its original state. Is there any way to change the background image more often than once per second? This is my timer : [NSTimer scheduledTimerWithTimeInterval: tmpLvlSpeed target: self selector: @selector(simPressRed:) userInfo: nil repeats: NO]; And the code to change the image: [btnRed setImage:[UIImage imageNamed:@"btn_red.png"] forState:UIControlStateNormal]; if tmpLvlSpeed is less than 1.0, the button image will never change. Even though the simPressRed function will still fire. Any clues? Is there an update cycle I can modify?

    I have a RetrieveBlob.aspx that gets some query string variables and returns an asset. Eeach url corresponds to a unique asset. In the RetrieveBlob.aspx a Cache Profile is set. In Web.Config the profile looks like (under system.web tag: <caching> <outputCache enableOutputCache="true" /> <outputCacheSettings> <outputCacheProfiles> <add duration="14800" enabled="true" varyByParam="*" name="AssetCacheProfile" /> </outputCacheProfiles> </outputCacheSettings> </caching> Ok, this works fine. When I put a breakpoint in the code behind of RetrieveBlob.aspx, it gets triggered the first time, and all the other times not.   • Curios: What makes CPUs better than others? [closed]

    I have been wondering about this for a long while now and was hoping someone here could answer it pretty easily. If I was looking for the most powerful CPU what should I really be looking at? There are so many different parameters of a CPU and I am wanting to know what each thing does and what really matters. Basically this: What is the deal with cores? If I take using optimized applications out of the mix would it theoretically better to get quad core 1.0GHz CPU or a 1 core 4 GHz CPU? Also, what is the difference between maybe an Sandy Bridge CPU versus an Ivy Bridge CPU? If they both were had the same clock speed and number of cores would the Ivy Bridge perform better? Does an older Xeon with an equal clock speed and number of cores to a new i7 really perform worse/slower? Does size matter? Why would I go with a 22nm CPU over a 32nm when the size difference is so trivial? What about the cache? When does the cache come into play with performance?

We're using this fact and this tip to redirect stderr to a logger at a specific log level. slf4j doesn't have a generic log() method that I can find. Does that mean there's no way to implement the above?

  • when updating location.hash in Chrome the jQuery animation "freezes" for a second

    I'm trying to create a sort of "virtual gallery". I'm using Coda Slider 2.0 & jQuery v1.4.2 It behaves perfectly in IE, FF & Safari, but Chrome seems to reload/hang for a second when setting location.hash.   • Offline copies in Windows file sharing

    I frequently access media files (music or video) on a remote Windows file share. My Internet connection is not very fast, and I find it a waste of bandwidth when I repeatedly access the same files. For example, I may listen to the same song 30 times in a month. So, I would like to cache files I've used. I know Windows has an "Always available offline" feature but I think it doesn't suit my needs. I don't want to make the whole share "available offline" as the remote Windows file share is huge (in terabytes). Making individual files "available offline" is tedious as the files are scattered in many different directories. It would be much more convenient if I can simply cache those I've used. Also The files on the share seldom change. Many of the files are rarely used. Some of the files are frequently used. I don't have a list of the most frequently used files. So I think the best way is to have a caching proxy for the Windows share. What do you think? I have a Linux box sitting around. Perhaps I should try to setup samba4?

    After I discontinued programming in C++ while entering into web authoring I was spoilt by PHP's high level constructs like hash tables or its dynamic, weak typing. I remembered the angst of C/C++ pointers and the maze of low-level Win32 API handles and message loops and that prevented me from utilizing environments like Code::Blocks for desktop applications. I am also not very fond of bulky, statically-typed C#/.NET environment. Any other ideas?

    Our company uses these settings( don't ask me why) - for every request they want a new request from server. this is an intranet system which uses only IE. They defined it in : We also have windows authentication NTLM in the iis7. I have 2 questions please. Question #1) when the browser make a request ( css ) : (leave the 401 response for now - this is how ntlm works) He is requesting it with if-modified-since header. why is he adding this header ? How can I configure it ? why doesn't he use the settings from IE and try to download it each time - as I showed in the first picture ? Question #2) The response ( after ntlm negotiation) for that was : Response with Not-modified which is 304 header. and I assume its because we sent the request with the if-modified-since header. But there is a problem. He is actually tells me to download from my cache. But I told him explicitly in the IE settings - not to load from cache. Wham am I missing here ? Thanks a lot.

    Hi, I'm working on a pure css menu that consists of four levels Level 1 and 2 are a dropline menu in style Levels 3+ are dropdown menus When you hover over a level 1 menu item, the level 2 menu displays directly below menu item you are currently hovering over. However if there are lots of menu items on level 2 then the level 2 menu goes off the screen and you see a horizontal scroll bar. What I want to happen is that if the menu is going to go off the screen I want it to get pushed to the left. For example, if the menu was 300px long, but there was only 250px between the level 1 menu item and the edge of the page, then the level 2 menu should not be placed directly under the level 1 parent, instead it should be 50px to the left. I use a nested unordered list for the menu.

I have a dataframe that contains a field representing an ID label. This label has two parts, an alpha prefix and a numeric suffix. I want to split it apart and create two new fields with these values in. structure(list(lab = c("N00", "N01", "N02", "B00", "B01", "B02", "Z21", "BA01", "NA03")), .Names = "lab", row.names = c(NA, -9L ), class = "data.frame") df$pre<-strsplit(df$lab, "[0-9]+") df$suf<-strsplit(df$lab, "[A-Z]+") Which gives lab pre suf 1 N00 N , 00 2 N01 N , 01 3 N02 N , 02 4 B00 B , 00 5 B01 B , 01 6 B02 B , 02 7 Z21 Z , 21 8 BA01 BA , 01 9 NA03 NA , 03 So, the first strsplit works fine, but the second gives a list, each having two elements, an empty string and the result I want, and stuffs them both into the dataframe column. How can I select the second sub-element from each element of the list ? (or, is there a better way to do this) Thanks Paul.

Is that forward to backend correctly configured? Disabling health checking hit ratio increases to 0.45. Now mostly "/crossdomain.xml" is missed (from many domains, as it is wildcard). How can I avoid that? Should I carry on other headers like User-Agent or Accept-Encoding? I thing that default hashing mechanism is using url + host/IP. Compression is used at the backend. What else can improve performance?

I have an app which I've put out to a small group of beta testers and I already fell foul of Environment.getExternalFilesDir(), which I hadn't noticed was introduced in API Level 8, when a couple of the guys tried it on Android v2.1 devices. The majority of my code should be pretty generic but it would be useful if I could find a condensed/summarised list/table or similar that I can quickly glance over.

    Hi, i want to get the domain extention (at least i hope it is called this way) from the site name the user is currently on. so from www.bbc.co.uk it's co.uk and www.google.com = .com http://stackoverflow.com/questions/ask = .com etc. especially the ones with the double name (like co.uk) gives me headaches.... EDIT as i understand from the comments, co.uk is not a top level domain? that makes life easier! EDIT new name (top level domain) in the title

  • Write to the second line of a PHP file

    I have a php file that I want to add an include path to on the second line. I need to open the file and inset a line of code on line 2. I have tried a few techniques none of which are working but I think it has something to do with the text I am trying to write and possibly not escaping character correctly as I am not too familiar with file writing. So here is the file I want to write to: $file = $_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT'].'/'.$domaindir.'/test.php'; Here is the piece of text I want to insert into the file: $dbfile = "include('".$_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT']."/".$domaindir."/web_".$dbname.".inc.php');"; Then what I was doing was a string replace but all it did was bump the "session_start();" bit to a newline! Can anyone point me in the direction of a tutorial that might tell me how to insert this into the second line of my php file or indeed if anyone has any ideas? I can say for sure that the path to the PHP file is fully tested so i know its not that the file is not being open or written to. Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
