• Best practice, or generally best way to set up web-hosting server, permissions, etc. [closed]

  Hi, I'm about to set up a server upon which a friend and I will be hosting web sites, and I'll be using Debian. I've set up a LAMP solution many times just to using for local testing purposes, but never for actual production use. I was wondering what are the best practices are in terms of setting the server up, in reference specifically to accessing the web root directory. A couple of the options I have seen: Set up a single user account on the server for us both to use and use a virtual host to point to the somewhere in the home directory, e.g. /home/webdev/www. Set each of us up a user account, and grant permissions in some way to /var/www (What would be the best way? Set up a new group?) I want to get this right when I first set this up as there won't be any going back for a while once our first site is up and running. Appreciate any guidance in advance.

  I am writing a job to migrate documents to SharePoint 2010 and need to set Author and Editor to the original user for the Source System. That is working fine and it is setting Author and Editor on the ListItem level correctly SPFile.Item("Author") SPFile.Item("Editor") BUT (!!!) SharePoint also stores the Editor on the Attachment level which some tools use as display value instead. This value is set to the system user who is running that script SPFile.Versions.Item(1).CreatedBy This field is readonly. Is there a way to modifiy it so I can set InternalOperatorUser to be the Creator for the Attachment as well. SharePoint 2010 Web only uses the values on the ListItem Attribites which are fine but there are thrid party tools that use the ones on the Attahcment level. Using SharePoint Explorer I could confirm that CreatedBy is set to be the system user. Does anyone here know how to change this value as well? Thanks, Wolfgang

• Boto - How to delete a record set from route53 -Tried to delete resource record set but it was not found

  I am using the following to delete route53 records. I get no error messages. conn = Route53Connection(aws_access_key_id, aws_secret_access_key) changes = ResourceRecordSets(conn, zone_id) change = changes.add_change("DELETE",sub_domain, "A", 60,weight=weight,identifier=identifier) change.add_value(ip_old) changes.commit() all required fields are present and they match..weight, identifier, ttl=60 etc.\ e.g. test.com. A 111.111.111.111 60 1 id1 test.com. A 111.111.111.222 60 1 id2 I want to delete 111.111.111.222 and the record set. So, what is the proper way to delete a record set? For a record set, I will have multiple values that are distinguished by a unique identifier. When an ip address becomes in active I want to remove from route53. I am using a a poor mans load balancing. • When does MSBuild set the $(ProjectName) property?

  I'm fairly new to MSBuild, and I've done some customization on a Wpf project file that I'm building both in VS2010 and TFS2010. I've customized the output path as follows: <OutputPath Condition=" '$(TeamBuildOutDir)' == '' ">$(SolutionDir)build\binaries\$(ProjectName)\$(Configuration)\$(Platform)</OutputPath> <OutputPath Condition=" '$(TeamBuildOutDir)' != '' ">$(TeamBuildOutDir)binaries\$(ProjectName)\$(Configuration)\$(Platform)</OutputPath> This allows me to build to a centralized binaries directory when building on the desktop, and allows TFS to find the binaries when CI builds are running. However, it seems that in both cases, the $(ProjectDir) property is evaluating to '' at buildtime, which creates strange results. Doing some debugging, it appears as if $(ProjectName) is set by the time BeforeBuild executes, but that my OutputPath property is evaluating it prior to that point. <ProjectNameUsedTooEarly Condition=" '$(ProjectName)' == '' ">true</ProjectNameUsedTooEarly> The preceeding property is in the same property group as my OutputPath property. In the BeforeBuild target, $(ProjectNameUsedTooEarly) evaluates to true, but $(ProjectName) evaluates to the project name as normal by that point. What can I do to ensure that $(ProjectName) has got a value when I use it? edit: I just used Attrice's MSBuild Sidekick to debug through my build file, and in the very first target available for breakpoint (_CheckForInvalidConfigurationAndPlatform) all the properties seem to be set already. ProjectName is already set correctly, but my OutputPath property has already been set using the blank value of ProjectName.

• Word 2007 COM - Can't directly access a page when word is set to invisible

  I'm using Word 2007 via COM from PHP 5.2 Apache 2.0 on a windows machine. The goal is to programmatically render jpeg thumbnails from each page in a Word document. The code will display the correct number of pages but the for each loop only loops over 1 page. I can only directly access page 1 and 2 in the Pages-Item() collection. If I try to access another page I get the exception: "The requested member of the collection does not exist." If I set the $word-Visible property to 1 I do get all the pages in the foreach loop and I can access any page directly. Everything is working as expected if Word is set to be visible. Even stranger is the fact that if I set Word to be invisible and I don't have the foreach loop I can only access page 1 instead of page 1 and 2 if I do the for each loop. Any pointers on how I can access all the pages in the document and keeping word invisible?

• Session cookie not being created in Rails, very rarely and frustratingly.

  Hi everyone, This is an issue sporadically for very few users, however we haven't been able to replicate it. However I have now got a Chrome instance (Mac) which is reproducing the error (for some unknown reason), and I hope to not restart it until I have this nailed! Rails application, using memcached for session store. While the bug manifests in the _app_session_id cookie not being created, our javascript-generated cookie test and app-generated language cookies are being created successfully. This means that 422 / InvalidAuthToken errors are thrown for every form that is submitted by those afflicted - people can't log into the app. The error occurs across all browsers - had reports for IE7 and Firefox (which most users use). Switching to another browser often fixes the issue (though not always), and standard cache-cookie-clear tactics do not. So now that I have got Chrome open which is having the same issue - in development, staging and live environments (meaning http and https). All other browsers are fine. I've restarted the servers and restarted memcached. I don't really want to restart Chrome - in the risk that the issue does go away with that (having said that, it hasn't worked for users). I've been tcpdumping the requests - and although I'll keep digging, I'd love it if anyone had any suggestions, places to start looking, anything. This is really painful ;) Thanks!

• How to set Delphi WebBrowser Base directory different that HTML location

  I have a Delphi program that creates HTML files. Later when a button is pressed a TWebBrowser is created and a WebBrowser.Navigate causes the html page to display. Is there anyway to set the WebBrowser "default directory" so it will always be the location of the Delphi executable not the HTML file? I do not want to set the Base value in the HTML to a hardcoded value because then when the HTML is ran from another Delphi exe they are not found. for example: if the exe is run from D:\data\delphi\pgm.exe then the base location D:\data\delphi\ and the jpgs are at D:\data\delphi\jpgs\ but if the exe is run from: C:\stuff\pgm.exe i want the base location to be C:\stuff\ and the jpgs to be at C:\stuff\jpgs\ So I cannot write a line in the HTML with the base location since when it is ran from another exe it would point to wrong location for that exe. So I either need to set the base location when I create the webbrowser and before I read the HTML or I need a way to pass into the webbrowser the location where I can then set the base location. Sorry for being so long-winded but I could not figure out how to saw what I needed.

  I need to select a top row for each category from a known set (somewhat similar to this question). The problem is, how to make this query efficient on the large number of rows. For example, let's create a table that stores temperature recording in several places. This way is efficient, but doesn't scale well (and looks dirty). SELECT placeId, ts, temp FROM ( SELECT placeId, ts, temp, ROW_NUMBER() OVER (PARTITION BY placeId ORDER BY ts DESC) rownum FROM #t WHERE placeId IN (1, 2, 3) ) t WHERE rownum = 1 The problem is, during the latter query execution plan a clustered index scan is performed on #t and 300 rows are retrieved, sorted, numbered, and then filtered, leaving only 3 rows. For the former query three times one row is fetched. Is there a way to perform the query efficiently without lots of unions?

  I'm working on a program that's supposed to represent a graph. My issue is in my printAdjacencyList function. Basically, I have a Graph ADT that has a member variable "nodes", which is a map of the nodes of that graph. Each Node has a set of Edge* to the edges it is connected to. • Display a jQuery Dialog/Popup, then set a hidden field using the result of the dialog

  The Problem I have a page with a form on. It has a hidden field called: generic_portrait I want the user to click a link "select portrait" This will open a Dialog/Popup using jQuery, based on a dropdown completed earlier in the form. If the value of the dropdown called "gender" is "male" then show male options, if "gender" is set to "female" show female options. Each portrait has a radio button, each with a name assigned "male1", "male2" etc Depending on the radio button selected in the popup, I want the hidden field to be set to match this. The Questions What is the best way to show a dialog/popup using jQuery, different depending on a dropdown box on the page. Use Javascript to see what is selected, then show a corresponding Div? I can do the check to see what the dropdown is set to using jQuery, but how can I then shown a specific popup based on that? Once i've popped it up, how do I take the value assigned to the selected radio box, and set the hidden field called "generic_portrait" to this value. Why i'm asking Normally I would figure this out myself, as i'm sure it's not that difficult, but I don't use Javascript and/or PHP very often, and this is due for a client urgently.   Hello, I'm trying to set the caret position in a contenteditable div layer, and after a bit of searching the web and experimenting I got it to work in firefox using this: function set(element,position){ element.focus(); var range= window.getSelection().getRangeAt(0); range.setStart(element.firstChild,position); range.setEnd(element.firstChild,position); } [...] set(document.getElementById("test"),3); But in Chrome/webkit it selects all of the content in the div. Is this a bug with webkit or am I doing something wrong? Thank you in advance.

  Consider an ASP.NET MVC application that requires a session variable be set. It's used throughout the app. It'll be set by either reading a hashed value on the browser cookie, or after having the user login. In the WebForms + Master Page model, I'd check the Page_Load() of the master page. Perhaps not the ultimate event, but it was an easy one to find. How would you check and enforce the existance of a session variable in ASP.NET MVC? Consider that this question might not involve user login details, but some other piece of data (first visit time, perhaps).

• iphone - Programmatically set (System-wide) proxy settings?

  I am new to iPhone development, so I'm sorry if this is a stupid question. I am developing an application whose purpose will be to route all iPhone activity through my company's proxy. Is there a way to programmatically set system-wide proxy settings in the iPhone (which will also take effect on the 3G connection)? I know there is a way to manually set proxy settings for each wifi connection. Detecting new networks and setting the proxy on them would be acceptable. However, I need to also be able to set the proxy on the 3G connection. Also, bonus: Is there a way to programmatically change the "Restrictions" settings? If anyone has any tips or can point me in the right direction, I would appreciate it. Thanks. EDIT: Please understand that this is for a legitimate purpose. Apple has to approve app store additions, so it's not like I'm trying to spread a virus. Please, constructive answers only.

  My problem is that when I open web application from Outlook in a separate IE window, the ASP.NET session is lost. This is (as described in several places) because in-memory cookie is lost. So it goes like this: User works with ASP.NET web application in Outlook, and this stores some info in ASP.NET session User clicks Print to open new IE window with print-ready data The new window has different ASP.NET session ID and can't access old data. I think, maybe, if I pass ASP.NET session ID to new IE window, I can somehow "attach" to that session? Tell ASP.NET that this is the one that I need to be current?

  Hello, my question is How can I set overflow hidden in cases where the html go's outside the screen Right now I have set html {overflow: hidden;} in the head tag off the page. So, it's hidden all the time In my particular case the errors that I show in the registration process cannot be seen on my 13inch laptop, but I don't want to show the scrollbars all the time. • OpenFileDialog RestoreDirectory as no effect if Multiselect is set to true

  We use OpenFileDialog across our application to select files. So far, we never used Multiselect. We set RestoreDirectory to true so that any time we open the dialog we get the user to the last directory used. If I set Multiselect to true, the directory from which the files are selected is not remembered. The dialog shows the last directory used when Multiselect was set to false. By the way, we create a new instance of OpenFileDialog. The environment: Windows XP VS 2008 targeting framework 3.5 C#

• HQL to get elements that possess all items in a set

  Currently, I have an HQL query that returns all Members who possess ANY Award from a set of specified Awards: from Member m left join m.awards as a where a.name in ("Trophy","Ribbon"); What I now need is HQL that will return all Members who possess ALL Awards specified in the set of Awards. So, assuming this data: Joe has Trophy, Medal Sue has Trophy, Ribbon Tom has Trophy, Ribbon, Medal The query above would return Joe, Sue, and Tom because all three possess at least one of Trophy or Ribbon. But I need to return only Sue and Tom, because they are the only ones who possess all of the specified awards (Trophy and Ribbon).   hello i have a QTableView , and i need to show a popup menu that shows the item properties . i need to set the context menu to apear only when you right click over a particular items in that tableview. but coudln't find a way to do it . i can set the context menu to appear when your over the table . i cant have it for each item . so how do i set the context menu over items in the tableview ? please tell me if the idea was not clear enough thanks in advance

• java: List wrapper where get()/set() is allowed but add/remove is not

  I need to wrap a List<T> with some class that allows calls to set/get but does not allow add/remove calls, so that the list remains "stuck" at a fixed length. I think I have a thin wrapper class (below) that will work, but I'm not 100% positive.
