  • Xubuntu LightDM shows blank screen half the time

    System info: (will be amended if any more info is asked for) My laptop runs Xubuntu 12.10. As it has a Solid State Drive, /tmp, /var/tmp, /var/log and /var/log/apt are set to tmpfs in the /etc/fstab file - in case this makes any difference. Problem My problem is quite simple. Approximately 50% of boot attempts end in the mouse cursor on a black screen (presumably LightDM failing to load), forcing me to restart and try again. I can access the CTRL+ALT+F1 terminal to reboot the machine, but it's very annoying having to boot and reboot two or three times before one works. Oh, and this problem is the same whether I use the Xubuntu or Unity greeter. Thanks for any help you can give.

  • Broadcom bcm4313 Ubuntu 13.10 connection time out

    After upgrading to Ubuntu 13.10 I keep getting connection timed out every few seconds at which point i have to disconnect and reconnect to the WiFi network.   • Printing an East Coast Timestamp in Arizona time

    Hello, The code returns "datesubmitted" in a nice format. The field "datesubmitted" is a timestamp of East Coast time. How could I print it out as Arizona time? Right now, that would be 3 hours behind East Coast time. For now, I would be happy just to do that. However, during other parts of the year (when Daylight Savings time is not being used), Arizona time is only 2 hours behind East Coast time. Is there a way that I could print the date below so that Arizona time is always correctly displayed? Or would I have to change the code when Daylight Savings time stops and starts?   • Sending time with timezone from PHP to flash

    I am trying to send the time to flash but set to the currently timezone. When you view the below even though the echo date, looks like its working the $time is the same. When i test in flash I get the extra hour added.   • IIS6 Log time recording problems

    On three separate occasions on two separate servers at nearly the same times, 6.9 hours seemingly went by without any data being written to the IIS logs, but, on closer inspection, it appears that it was all recorded all at once. Here's the facts as I know them: Windows Server 2003 R2 w/ IIS6 Logging using GMT, server local time GMT-7. Application was still operating and I have SQL data to prove that Time gaps appear in log file, not across two # headers appear at gap Load balancer pings every 30 seconds No caching Here's info on a particular case: an entry appears for 2009-09-21 18:09:27 then #headers the next entry is for 2009-09-22 01:21:54, and so are the next 1600 entries in this log file and 370 in the next log file. about half of the ~2000 entries on 2009-09-22 01:21:54 are load balancer pings (est. at 2/min for 6.9hrs = 828 pings) then entries are recorded as normal. I believe that these events may coincide with me deploying an ASP.NET application update into those machines. Also note that /ping.aspx returned 404 then switched to 200 just as the problem started. I rename the "I'm alive page" so the load balancer stops sending requests to the server while I'm working on it. What you see here is me renaming it back so the load balancer will use the server. So, this problem definitely coincides with me re-enabling the server. Any ideas?

  • Detect Subscribers To Event In Real Time

    I'm using C++ in the QT framework to write an application that detects an application running in memory. I can use the FindWindow method, but that requires that I know the windows title before hand. What would be the best method for identifying behavior of the application in memory to match it to a title? For example, if I know (before scanning) that a given application subscribes to the OnKeyPress event, is it possible to hook to it that method, detect all of the subscribers and enumerate them to find the application i'm looking for? If so, how would I go about doing that without integrating into the kernel? Thanks in advance for all the responses.

  • I cannot boot Ubuntu from WUBI install with windows 7, get an error message every time

    i have tried several times to install ubuntu using wubi, i can't use a disc as i have a notebook computer and there is no optical drive. the download and installation all seem to work well but whenever i try to boot ubuntu at the windows 7/ubuntu menu it comes up with this error screen. I have used both the C: drive and the D: drive to install Ubuntu several times each, it's always unsuccessful. "Windows has failed to start. a recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem: Insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer Choose your language settings and then click 'next' Click repair your computer. If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance. File: \ubuntu\winboot\wubildr.mbr Status: 0xc000000F Info: The selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt." I use an ASUS x501a with windows 7. What do i do to fix this? I want to be able to dual boot Windows 7 and ubuntu. Thanks a lot :)

  • System checks for disk drive error every time it boots

    When my disk space for the ubuntu installation partition was getting low, from a live cd, I used gparted to increase its volume capacity, but deleting another partition and merging it to the ubuntu partition. Since then onwards, I am receiving disk checking for errors at boot screen for my partitions, always. What seem to be causing this and how to fix it?     I have this weird situation: When I do on rails console Time.now or Time.zone.now I get the same values (suppose they run at the sime time: 2014-06-05 23:38:06 -0300) But when I use Time.now in a query like: Match.where("datetime = ?", Time.now) it returns the time 3 hours ahead! .to_sql output: SELECT `matches`.* FROM `matches` WHERE (datetime = '2014-06-06 02:38:06') any thoughts on that?   • Advice on whether to use scripting, run time compile or something else

    I work in the prodution area at my works and I design and create the software to run our automated test equipment. Everytime I get involved with a new machine I end up with a different and (hopefully) better design. Anyway I have come to the point where I feel I need to start standardization all the machines with the same program. I see a problem when it comes to applying updates as at the moment the test procedures are hard coded into the program at each station. I neeed to be able to update the core program without affecting the testing section. The way I see it that this will mean splitting the program into 2 sections. Main UI - This is the core that talks to everything on the machine such as cameras, sensors, printer etc and is a standalone application. Test Procedure - This is the steps that is executeted everytime the machine runs through a test. The main UI will load the test procedure and execute when ever a test is required. My question is what is the best approach to this in terms of having an application load a file and execute the code with in? Take into account that the code in the test procedure will need access to public methods on the UI/core system to communicate to sensors etc. I have heard about MS Roslyn and had a quick look, would this solve my issue?

  • Why does my FPS drop gradually over time?

    I'm working on this game: yt alpha preview I came into a huge game-breaking problem - after 10-15 min of gameplay the FPS drops from 60 to 30 and is very unstable. I'm using tons of physics and particles, I'm deleting and nulling everything I can after it's supposed to be removed, I remove objects from vectors etc. The memory usage is stable at around 150mb so a leak is unlikely (or invisible?)- after a round ends and I delete everything, play a new round and performance is still terrible. I spent two days trying to figure this out and I just can't fix it. Maybe I'm missing something? I know it's hard to help with no code but I would just have to post my whole source.

    With normal form submission I use the pattern Post / Redirect / Get, when processing the forms. I have a database application built with Django. I want to allow the users to select a number of items from the database, then launch a computationally intensive task based on those items. I expect the task to take between 10 minutes and 2 hours to complete. Is there a standard approach to dealing with requests like this (i.e. that don't return immediately)? Ideally there would be some way to display the progress.
