• Why does the Maven goal "package" include the resources in the jar, but the goal "jar:jar" doesnt?

  Hi, when I package my project with the Maven goal "package", the resources are included as well. They are originally located in the directory "src/main/resources". Because I want to create an executable jar and add the classpath to the manifest, I'm using maven-jar-plugin. I've configured it as the following likes: <plugin> <groupId>org.apache.maven.plugins</groupId> <artifactId>maven-jar-plugin</artifactId> <version>2.2</version> <configuration> <archive> <manifest> <addClasspath>true</addClasspath> <mainClass>at.sozvers.stp.zpv.ekvkumsetzer.Main</mainClass> </manifest> </archive> </configuration> </plugin> Why won't the jar file created with "jar:jar" include my resources as well. As far as I'm concerned it should use the same directories as the "package" goal (which are in my case inherited from the Maven Super POM).

• Looking into Enum Support in Entity Framework 5.0 Code First

  In this post I will show you with a hands-on demo the enum support that is available in Visual Studio 2012, .Net Framework 4.5 and Entity Framework 5.0. You can have a look at this post to learn about the support of multilple diagrams per model that exists in Entity Framework 5.0. We will demonstrate this with a step by step example. I will use Visual Studio 2012 Ultimate. You can also use Visual Studio 2012 Express Edition. Before I move on to the actual demo I must say that in EF 5.0 an enumeration can have the following types. Byte Int16 Int32 Int64 Sbyte Obviously I cannot go into much detail on what EF is and what it does. I will give again a short introduction.The .Net framework provides support for Object Relational Mapping through EF. So EF is a an ORM tool and it is now the main data access technology that microsoft works on. I use it quite extensively in my projects. Through EF we have many things out of the box provided for us. We have the automatic generation of SQL code.It maps relational data to strongly types objects.All the changes made to the objects in the memory are persisted in a transactional way back to the data store. You can find in this post an example on how to use the Entity Framework to retrieve data from an SQL Server Database using the "Database/Schema First" approach. In this approach we make all the changes at the database level and then we update the model with those changes. In this post you can see an example on how to use the "Model First" approach when working with ASP.Net and the Entity Framework. This model was firstly introduced in EF version 4.0 and we could start with a blank model and then create a database from that model.When we made changes to the model , we could recreate the database from the new model. You can search in my blog, because I have posted many posts regarding ASP.Net and EF. I assume you have a working knowledge of C# and know a few things about EF. The Code First approach is the more code-centric than the other two. Basically we write POCO classes and then we persist to a database using something called DBContext. Code First relies on DbContext. We create 2,3 classes (e.g Person,Product) with properties and then these classes interact with the DbContext class. We can create a new database based upon our POCOS classes and have tables generated from those classes.We do not have an .edmx file in this approach.By using this approach we can write much easier unit tests. DbContext is a new context class and is smaller,lightweight wrapper for the main context class which is ObjectContext (Schema First and Model First). Let's begin building our sample application. 1) Launch Visual Studio. Create an ASP.Net Empty Web application. Choose an appropriate name for your application. 2) Add a web form, default.aspx page to the application. 3) Now we need to make sure the Entity Framework is included in our project. Go to Solution Explorer, right-click on the project name.Then select Manage NuGet Packages...In the Manage NuGet Packages dialog, select the Online tab and choose the EntityFramework package.Finally click Install. Have a look at the picture below   4) Create a new folder. Name it CodeFirst . 5) Add a new item in your application, a class file. Name it Footballer.cs. This is going to be a simple POCO class.Place it in the CodeFirst folder. The code follows public class Footballer { public int FootballerID { get; set; } public string FirstName { get; set; } public string LastName { get; set; } public double Weight { get; set; } public double Height { get; set; } public DateTime JoinedTheClub { get; set; } public int Age { get; set; } public List<Training> Trainings { get; set; } public FootballPositions Positions { get; set; } }    Now I am going to define my enum values in the same class file, Footballer.cs    public enum FootballPositions    {        Defender,        Midfielder,        Striker    } 6) Now we need to create the Training class. Add a new class to your application and place it in the CodeFirst folder.The code for the class follows.     public class Training     {         public int TrainingID { get; set; }         public int TrainingDuration { get; set; }         public string TrainingLocation { get; set; }     }   7) Then we need to create a context class that inherits from DbContext.Add a new class to the CodeFirst folder.Name it FootballerDBContext.Now that we have the entity classes created, we must let the model know.I will have to use the DbSet<T> property.The code for this class follows       public class FootballerDBContext:DbContext     {         public DbSet<Footballer> Footballers { get; set; }         public DbSet<Training> Trainings { get; set; }     } Do not forget to add  (using System.Data.Entity;) in the beginning of the class file 8) We must take care of the connection string. It is very easy to create one in the web.config.It does not matter that we do not have a database yet.When we run the DbContext and query against it,it will use a connection string in the web.config and will create the database based on the classes. In my case the connection string inside the web.config, looks like this      <connectionStrings>    <add name="CodeFirstDBContext"  connectionString="server=.\SqlExpress;integrated security=true;"  providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/>                       </connectionStrings>   9) Now it is time to create Linq to Entities queries to retrieve data from the database . Add a new class to your application in the CodeFirst folder.Name the file DALfootballer.cs We will create a simple public method to retrieve the footballers. The code for the class follows public class DALfootballer     {         FootballerDBContext ctx = new FootballerDBContext();         public List<Footballer> GetFootballers()         {             var query = from player in ctx.Footballers where player.FirstName=="Jamie" select player;             return query.ToList();         }     }   10) Place a GridView control on the Default.aspx page and leave the default name.Add an ObjectDataSource control on the Default.aspx page and leave the default name. Set the DatasourceID property of the GridView control to the ID of the ObjectDataSource control.(DataSourceID="ObjectDataSource1" ). Let's configure the ObjectDataSource control. Click on the smart tag item of the ObjectDataSource control and select Configure Data Source. In the Wizzard that pops up select the DALFootballer class and then in the next step choose the GetFootballers() method.Click Finish to complete the steps of the wizzard. Build your application.  11)  Let's create an Insert method in order to insert data into the tables. Normally, in past versions, I can log in, open Firefox, and it will pop up within seconds. 12.10 is like that upon install too, though once I install my old apps, it gets very slow by Ubuntu standards. After login the hard drive will just make noise for a while before the OS will do anything. There are a variety of tools available to help you and Support diagnose SOA Suite issues in 11g but it can be confusing as to which tool is appropriate for a particular situation and what their relationships are. This blog post will introduce the various tools and attempt to clarify what each is for and how they are related. Let's first list the tools we'll be addressing: RDA: Remote Diagnostic Agent DFW: Diagnostic Framework Selective Tracing DMS: Dynamic Monitoring Service ODL: Oracle Diagnostic Logging ADR: Automatic Diagnostics Repository ADRCI: Automatic Diagnostics Repository Command Interpreter WLDF: WebLogic Diagnostic Framework This overview is not mean to be a comprehensive guide on using all of these tools, however, extensive reference materials are included that will provide many more details on their execution. Another point to note is that all of these tools are applicable for Fusion Middleware as a whole but specific products may or may not have implemented features to leverage them. A couple of the tools have a WebLogic Scripting Tool or 'WLST' interface. WLST is a command interface for executing pre-built functions and custom scripts against a domain.   I am using Adobe Flash Builder 4. I've run into this issue with my latest project, but I was able to re-create it with an almost empty project. Here is what I've done. Created a new Flex Project Created a locale/en_US folder within this project. Added a class that extends SparkDownloadProgressBar. All this class does is attempt to create a Label. • Learning Visual C++ 2008 and C++ at the same time? Any resources to recommend?

  Hey guys, I am trying to learn Visual C++ 2008 and C++ at the same time to get involved with sourcemod, a server side modding tool for valve games. However I have never touched Visual C++ or C++ in general, and doing some preliminary research I am quite confused on these different versions of C++ (mfc, cli, win32), and why a lot of people seem to hate Visual C++ and use something like Borland instead. I really learn visually, and have used videos from places like Lynda.com with great success. I was wondering if anyone had any exceptional resources they had come across to teach Visual C++ 2k8, with its intricacies and setting up the IDE along with C++ at the same time. Books would be nice, but videos would be preferred, and I don't mind paying for resources. Thanks in advance!

Most resources are out of date (so out of date they refer to it as code-only), and the other references I can find seem to assume you understand the basics of context building and code-first (for example, they reference code to build contexts but don't describe where that code should actually go, and how it's actually run). Are there any decent resources for code-first development, that describe how to map your POCO entities into a database schema?

• IntelliJ: Adding resources to the class path, but still gives me "java.util.MissingResourceException: Can't find bundle.... locale en_US"

  I am quite new to intellij and i have loaded in a project that i wish to compile, everything seems to be going well, but when i compile it. I get the bundle cannot be found. java.util.MissingResourceException: Can't find bundle for base name openfire_i18n, locale en_US at java.util.ResourceBundle.throwMissingResourceException(ResourceBundle.java:1499) After doing some investigation, it appears i have to include the resources in the class path, is this correct? I have done Project Settings, Modules, Dependencies, and i added a "Jars or directories" There is a checkbox that says Export, i have tried clicking it and unclicking it :-) My resources i can see are in i8n\ResourceBundle I tried adding the i8n and it asked me for a category for selected files, i put classes RUN - but still same error.. so i tried adding the i8n/ResourceBundle directory RUN - still same error. I notice under my ResourceBundle directory there are C:\Dev\Java\openfire_src_3_7_1\openfire_src\src\i18n\openfire_i18n_en.properties but there is no specific en_US but i thought it supposed to fallback to EN ?? SO i think everything is ok. Can anyone help I am really stuck Thanks

• Webkit based browsers on Mac refuse to load certain websites or resources, other browsers work fine from the same machine

  OK, this one has really been puzzling me. Certain websites (such as instapaper.com ) or certain resources (such as the CSS and images for icanhazcheezeburger.com sites) refuse to load at all in Safari or Chrome on any of my Mac machines. Rebooting the machine doesn't fix it. If I use another browser, such as Firefox or a browser on my iPhone or in my Windows virtual machine, the pages load just fine. When the whole page errors out, Safari displays an error: "WebKit encountered an internal error" WebKitErrorDomain:300 This is all from within my home network. Any ideas what could possibly be causing such bizarre behavior?

  Mplayer has some options that allow me to play it on a machine with limited resources. I can use mplayer -vo x11 -zoom -framedrop to play videos when otherwise I'd run out of memory. At least I think I'm running out of memory. I am running our of some resource for sure. -vo sets the video output driver -zoom actually I don't know what this does, but it works for me ;-) -framedrop allows mplayer to not render frames if it falls behind. Are there similar command line controls (or a defaults file) for totem, vlc or xine?

  I have a PowerShell script that deploys about 12 web parts. They have all been created through Visual Studio 2010 and are being deployed to SharePoint 2010. • Can I combine atom feeds from separate resources into one?

  I have two resources for which I would like to generate feeds; they are called podcasts and posts. The problem is that when I include the auto_discovery_link in my templates, I have to add one for each of the two atom feeds that I've generated. The reason why this is a problem is that there are now two feeds for users to choose from, and most people probably won't realise that they need both so will only pick one. Is there a way to combine atom feeds from different resources into one atom feed? Like application.atom or something? I'm using builder to generate the feed.

  I've got a classification problem in my hand, which I'd like to address with a machine learning algorithm ( Bayes, or Markovian probably, the question is independent on the classifier to be used). Given a number of training instances, I'm looking for a way to measure the performance of an implemented classificator, with taking data overfitting problem into account. That is: given N[1..100] training samples, if I run the training algorithm on every one of the samples, and use this very same samples to measure fitness, it might stuck into a data overfitting problem -the classifier will know the exact answers for the training instances, without having much predictive power, rendering the fitness results useless. An obvious solution would be seperating the hand-tagged samples into training, and test samples; and I'd like to learn about methods selecting the statistically significant samples for training.   I'm currently on my placement year at uni with 4 months left. Before working at my current place, I have not used a nix environment for web development and have used WAMP. Over the past year I have found some very interesting new tech that requires a bit more than my shared hosting even to play with (eg node.js, RoR 3). At work we use a Virtual Machine for development, but that's all been set up and configured to match the live servers, and is managed with a Puppet server. Are there any really good resources for setting up and configuring an Ubuntu VM as a web server? Work currently uses Ubuntu so I would assume this is a good OS to use. I do of course know how to use google, but the noise ratio is just too big, so thought I'd ask here, as I know many of you will have a ton of bookmarks. Cheers.

  One of my clients has an application that was written for them using VB6. They no longer have the original resources that were given to the developer. The developer has disappeared off the face of the earth. My challenge is to extract the resources from the executable and rebuild the application, adding new material to it. I've tried using Resource Hacker, but that only finds the icon. The exe is over 26MB, I can't see that the only resource embedded is the icon. Is there a way to extract this resource?

I was trying to add just the images to the index, so I ran this command: git add *.png But, this doesn't add the files. There were a few new image files that were added, but none of the ones that were modified/pre-existing were added. What gives?
