  • How to return a value based on the type of the generic T

    - by Blankman
I have a method like: public T Get<T>(string key) { } Now say I want to return "hello" if the type is a string, and 110011 if it is type int. how can I do that? typeof(T) doesn't seem to work. I ideally want to do a switch statement, and return something based on the Type of the generic (string/int/long/etc). Is this possible?

  • Mapping to a different view based on child type

    - by Ryan Burnham
So i have a situation where i have common base type but i need to map to a different view based on the child type. It looks like i can use a generic mapping class to handle the inheritance http://geekswithblogs.net/nharrison/archive/2010/07/09/inheriting-a-class-map-in-fluent-nhibernate.aspx But how can i conditionally map to a different view based on the child type? I see an EntityType property but it says its obsolete and will be made private in the next version. As an example i have a base class of ContactInfo is standard between contact types but the values come from different places depending on the contact type, this I'll handle through the sql view.

  • singledispatch in class, how to dispatch self type

    - by yanxinyou
Using python3.4. Here I want use singledispatch to dispatch different type in __mul__ method . The code like this : class Vector(object): ## some code not paste @functools.singledispatch def __mul__(self, other): raise NotImplementedError("can't mul these type") @__mul__.register(int) @__mul__.register(object) # Becasue can't use Vector , I have to use object def _(self, other): result = Vector(len(self)) # start with vector of zeros for j in range(len(self)): result[j] = self[j]*other return result @__mul__.register(Vector) # how can I use the self't type @__mul__.register(object) # def _(self, other): pass # need impl As you can see the code , I want support Vector*Vertor , This has Name error Traceback (most recent call last): File "p_algorithms\vector.py", line 6, in <module> class Vector(object): File "p_algorithms\vector.py", line 84, in Vector @__mul__.register(Vector) # how can I use the self't type NameError: name 'Vector' is not defined The question may be How Can I use class Name a Type in the class's method ? I know c++ have font class statement . How python solve my problem ? And it is strange to see result = Vector(len(self)) where the Vector can be used in method body .

  • CSS single property classes

    - by user1490379
As more presentational html properties get deprecated the natural response for me was to make single property CSS classes such as .text-align-left{text-align:left}. My question is, is this preferred versus inline styles? Stackoverflow actually uses quite a bit of inline styles. PS: I know this isn't really a coding question and it is likely to incite debate but stackoverflow is the largest stack exchange for code and this question does have some use for future individuals.

  • One-to-One relation classes

    - by SeyZ
I want to have a class named ProjectDirectory and a class named MetaDirectory. Each project has a MetaDirectory which contains some meta data. Is it the good way to write the classes like this: class ProjectDirectory(object): def __init__(self, directory=None): self.directory = directory self.meta_directory = MetaDirectory(self) def __repr__(self): return self.directory class MetaDirectory(object): def __init__(self, project_directory=None): self.project_directory = project_directory self.directory = "%s/.meta/" % project_directory ProjectDirectory has a reference to MetaDirectory and MetaDirectory has a reference to ProjectDirectory. Is there an other solution or this solution is good ?

  • can I get .class from generic type argument?

    - by Mike S
    I have the following class: public abstract class MyClass<T extends Object> { protected T createNewFromData(Reader reader){ GSON.fromJSON(reader,T.class); // T.class isn't allowed :( } } How do I pass a Class<T instance into there? Is there some wierd and wacky work around? Is there a way to get a Class<T reference other than from a pre-instantiated Object of type T? It won't let me do this either: T t = new T(); Class<T> klass = t.class; ANSWER BELOW Thanks to the accepted answer, here is the solution: Type type = new TypeToken<T>(){}.getType(); return gson.fromJson(reader, type);

  • why Haskell can deduce [] type in this function

    - by Sili
rho x = map (((flip mod) x).(\a -> a^2-1)) (rho x) This function will generate an infinite list. And I tested in GHCi, the function type is *Main> :t rho rho :: Integral b => b -> [b] If I define a function like this fun x = ((flip mod) x).(\a -> a^2-1) The type is *Main> :t fun fun :: Integral c => c -> c -> c My question is, how can Haskell deduce the function type to b - [b]? We don't have any [] type data in this function. Thanks!

  • Finding the type of an object in C++

    - by lemnisca
I have a class A and another class that inherits from it, B. I am overriding a function that accepts an object of type A as a parameter, so I have to accept an A. However, I later call functions that only B has, so I want to return false and not proceed if the object passed is not of type B. What is the best way to find out which type the object passed to my function is?

  • how do i lock down my preferences for Services .mmc snapin column layout and view type

    - by gerryLowry
when "Services" opens, it's in Extended View. i prefer Standard view. i also prefer this column layout: Status | Startup Type | Log On As | Name | Description because when I expand all columns via Ctrl+(numeric keypad "+") what i need to see most i can view without being forced to scroll to the right. Problem: my preferred layout does not persist. QUESTION: how can i force Windows (2008 R2, 7, XP, et cetera) to remmember my settings? thnx / g.

  • How to get the installed Memory Type

    - by balexandre
Windows 7 could be better at this, it tells everything about the computer CPU but only the Memory amount Microsoft should add information about DDR type, speed and maybe CL as well. While this never happens, What's the best and easy way to check the installed memory so we can buy and upgrade it? I was thinking a simple software so I don't need to install the full SiSoft Sandra for example, just looking for something small, only for the memory part.

  • How to install Dvorak Type 2 (ii) German on Ubuntu using Gnome

    - by Peter Lustig
Currently I am using standard Dvorak on Ubuntu 13.10 and Gnome 3.10. Unfortunately, writing Umlauts (ä,ö,ü) in German requires me to switch to QWERTY/QWERTZ frequently or forces me to not write those umlauts (which looks strange to German native speakers). Is there a way to use Dvorak Type 2, including the umlauts, but otherwise using the standard English layout on Ubuntu with Gnome? I'm a fast typer on standard English Dvorak and would like to avoid fully switching to German Dvorak as this would (at least temporarily) reduce my typing speed.

  • Windows 7 FTP Connection Ignores File Type Associations

    - by Travis
I have an FTP connection active through the Map Network Drive option in Windows 7 64-bit. When navigating the remote directory, I see no way to edit files. Windows is completely ignoring file-type associations and "opens" everything with my default browser. Is there any way that I can simply edit these files? I'm open to suggestions of other software as well, but from what I can see, NetDrive doesn't work with 64-bit.

  • Determining temporary Internet file type (Chrome)

    - by DJoyce
My broadband speed is sometimes lacking, and therefore it can be difficult to view Flash streams of programmes. So my idea is to start a Flash stream, let it run to completion no matter how long it takes, and then view the temporary .swf file. I've discovered the location of my Google Chrome temporary files. However, there is no file type associated with these files. Therefore, I'm wondering if the idea above will work, and how can I retrieve only .swf files?

  • SPException: Catastrophic failure (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8000FFF (E_UNEXPECTED) in Sharepoint

    - by BeraCim
Hi all: I've been trying to programmatically copy custom content type and its custom columns from one web to another for some time now, and every time I get some sort of error or exception. After yet more tries, I received another strange and cryptic exception from Sharepoint after clicking onto a newly copied custom column in a custom content type. I checked the logs, and this is what I got: Failed to find the content type schema for ct-1033-0x1000blahblahblahcontenttypeId while caching feature data. Unknown SPRequest error occurred. More informationL 0x8000ffff Unable to locate the xml-definition for CType with SPContentTypeId '0x0100MorecontenttypeId', exception: Microsoft.SharePoint.SPException: Catastrophic failure(Exception from HRESULT: 0x8000FFFF (E_UNEXPECTED)) ---> System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x8000FFFF): Catastrophic failure... ... at Microsoft.SharePoint.Library.SPRequestInternalClass.GetGlobalContentTypeXml(String bstrUrl, Int32 type, UInt 32 lcid, Object varIdBytes... It failed to find quite a few content type schema. I'm confused with what Sharepoint is trying to do here, and why a simple process of copying a custom content type from one web to another just wouldn't work in contrast to the information found on the web e.g. this. Appreciate any help to get over this problem. Thanks.

  • Explicit casting doesn't work in default model binding

    - by Felix
I am using ASP.NET MVC2 and Entity Framework. I am going to simplify the situation a little; hopefully it will make it clearer, not more confusing! I have a controller action to create address, and the country is a lookup table (in other words, there is a one-to-many relationship between Country and Address classes). Let's say for clarity that the field in the Address class is called Address.Land. And, for the purposes of the dropdown list, I am getting Country.CountryID and Country.Name. I am aware of Model vs. Input validation. So, if I call the dropdown field formLand - I can make it work. But if I call the field Land (that is, matching the variable in Address class) - I am getting the following error: "The parameter conversion from type 'System.String' to type 'App.Country' failed because no type converter can convert between these types." OK, this makes sense. A string (CountryID) comes from the form and the binder doesn't know how to convert it to Country type. So, I wrote the converter: namespace App { public partial class Country { public static explicit operator Country(string countryID) { AppEntities context = new AppEntities(); Country country = (Country) context.GetObjectByKey( new EntityKey("AppEntities.Countries", "CountryID", countryID)); return country; } } } FWIW, I tried both explicit and implicit. I tested it from the controller - Country c = (Country)"fr" - and it works fine. However, it never got invoked when the View is posted. I am getting the same "no type converter" error in the model. Any ideas how to hint to the model binder that there is a type converter? Thanks
