• Make a bootable USB drive that can install both Windows XP and Ubuntu

  I have ISO images for both Ubuntu and Windows XP. I want to host both of them on a USB drive so that I can install either without needing installation CDs (I don't have a CD drive). How can I do that? SO, I want to have both Windows XP and Ubuntu on my USB Drive so that i could install any one of tem just from a USB. I do not have CD Drive thats why i wanna do that. • Convert partition to Virtual Disk image

  I have a 250 GB HD with a XP partition. I partitioned the XP Box to 112 GB, since the max Virtual PC can load is 127 GB. I have a new motherboard and can't load into the partition, so I am using Windows 7. I have tried using WinImage to create the image but it creates an image of the whole disc (250 GB) and will not load on Virtual PC cause of the size limit. What would be best to convert to VHD correctly?

• Win 7 Explorer backup and long paths

  I use Explorer to do backups because Win 7's backup program asks me to take backups previously done and to put them back in the drive. I am opposed to that idea since I believe backups should remain in storage. With Explorer backups (burn and burn to disc) I have encountered the "destination path too long" error message and it shows the name of a folder "Debug" three times. I have hundreds of folders named "Debug" thanks to Visual Studio. At this moment I'm too angry at Microsoft to write a program to determine my 3 longest paths. (Aside: This is all after coincidentally reading two articles about path junctions earlier this evening which already made me kind of unhappy.) Please, is there an easy way to continue to make backups with Explorer? Edit: I should add that renaming paths wrecks Visual Studio projects so I really need to isolate the small number of problem paths or find a cleaner solution.

If I install Office 2007 and enter a product key, then use sysprep and create an image, will I be able to enter a new product key in clones I create from the image? Or will they all have duplicate product keys?

  Hi Dudes, Installed Win 2008 server and IIS7. Enabled ASP Classic and ASP.NET on it. Can't get any ASP scripts to run e.g. desperate.asp containing following line: <% Response.Write "Hello Love, Fancy a Date?" % It just comes up with a "FILE DOWNLOAD - SECURITY WARNING" panel asking em to download. When I select anything it keeps looping. Found lots fo stuff on internet but nothing working. Also same for other ASP scripts HTML works no problem e.g. a file called reply.html containing: Get lost little boy. We only serve French Fries in Macdonalds Any ideas?

  My computer was working fine for months but now when it starts up the Windows XP screen comes up to show the computer is starting up but then a blue screen appears with the error below: BAD_POOL_CALLER STOP: 0x000000C2 (0x00000043, 0xDB3C6000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) I have tried booting off the Windows XP CD and trying to do a re-installation but when the setup try's to query the disk the setup crashes and exists. I've run diags and that says everything is fine. Any ideas?

  Hi I will keep the question simple with few details, if more is needed tell me. Thanks. I am playing around with networking and virtualbox. So I have 2 virtual machines. One is windows xp and another has linux in it. Windows XP has 2 network cards. One for the internet and the other to connect to the linux computer. Linux has one 1 card and it can only access the internet passing through Windows XP. Internet works fine until I activate OpenVPN on Windows. When I turn on VPN, Linux has no access to it. How can I make linux use VPN too? I believe it has something to do with using the "route" command on XP to send VPN traffic to Linux but I was not able to figure it out how yet.

  i accidentally deleted the recovery folder on the recovery partition (win vista home) i think it was some sort of scheduled maintenance of some program that i did not configure properly? oops... lol i called toshiba and they said i needed to buy a recovery program, which i didnt bother doing. I bought a legal copy of vista and would like to install the correct files and in a way that when my computer starts looking for files it will eventually find them or i can point to the partition. i'm pretty sure it's not a matter of copy and paste (is it?) thanks Paul

  For some reason, after users do the initial authentication, the system logs in (or unlocks) and locks the screen again within a few seconds (without dropping the RDP session). I've seen this on XP SP3 and Server 2k3. Clients are both major versions of the MS client, and rdesktop. Update: We've seen the issue on a range of machines from 2k3 server (no logon/post logon scripts on servers) to XP SP3. Multiple machines have the same issue - even coming from a fresh and fully patched install.

I'd really like the solution to work independently of whether I'm using a window manager or not, and to involve modifying as few files as possible; I work on a lots of different machines and am always building new ones, so would like to minimise reconfig effort. We have two data partitions D: and E: I want to expand them both so they use all space, and are equally sized. There is data on all partitions, although E is not in live use (so files can be moved and copied from it. Current: What I want- temporary Partition (F:) at end of drive: I am going to create a temporary partition F: so I can move the files from E: onto it, then delete E:, expand D: to the desired size, then rename F: to E: To do this I need to create F: from the end of the drive, ie. have unused space between E: and F: tl;dr How do I create a partition with a large offset in Windows server?

• Problem with running a program from flashdrive

  I have a USB drive with two partitions in it, one hidden and one normal. I have an application which swaps the memory and runs the flash application in hidden zone. The problem is that the application works fine on Windows 7 and when run on Win XP, it swaps the partitions but doesn't run the flash applications but just keeps running in the background. I can see it in task manager. But, when I copy the application to desktop and run, it runs with no glitch. I was facing the same problem on Win 7 too, but it was running as required when I ran it using "Run in XP mode" and then I applied a SHIM and is running since then as required. The application is built using VC++ 2008. What might be the problem?

  Let me preface my question by saying I'm a novice in regards to server configuration. It's been 12+ years since I've attempted this. What we (our small office) are trying to achieve is to setup a Win 2008 server (located in a home) in a home network configuration (basic wireless router w/DHCP) that we (the office) can VPN to from our office. I have installed the software, installed DHCP, removed DHCP from the router, set the scope for 100 IPs and am now looking for information as to where I go from here? I believe I need to configure DNS and possibly set up static routes on the router for the home devices that need internet? The wireless clients are not receiving IPs is the current issue that I'd like to tackle. Also, would it be feasible to use the router's DHCP to assign IPs rather than having the server do it? If so, what would be the most direct way to accomplish this? I appreciate any help in this matter. Thanks

When I select my VHD file, it says "VhdExpand only supports fixed and dynamic VHD files". My XP Mode VHDs are dynamic files. Does anyone have any idea why it is failing?   What procedure should I follow to set a dual boot (both Win-7 x64) on a machine where (ideally): Both operating systems will be installed on the same physical disk in different partitions When booting into either operating system the contents of the other OS partition disk will not be seen (this just seems safer) Other hard drives in the system will be visible by both OS's 1 copy of Win7 is already installed. Is it as simple as shrinking the existing volume and creating the partition, then sticking the CD in and booting off it and formatting the new partition and then installing another copy of windows onto the new partition? Or will that not work? Or are there gotchas?
