• Logoff button IIS6 ASP.NET Basic Authentication

  I have a requirement for an explicit logout button for users in a ASP.NET web app. I am using IIS6 with Basic Authentication (SSL). I can redirect to another web page but the browser keeps the session alive. I have googled around and found a way to do it by enabling an active x control to communicate with IIS and kill the session. I am in a restricted environment that does not allow forms authentication and active x controls are not forbidden as well. Has anyone else had this requirement and how have you handled it? Okay that is what I was afraid of. I have seen similar answers on the net and I was hoping someone would have a way of doing it. Thanks for your time though. I guess I can use javascript to prevent the back button like the history.back()

• Algorithm to calculate a page importance based on its views / comments

  I need an algorithm that allows me to determine an appropriate <priority> field for my website's sitemap based on the page's views and comments count. For those of you unfamiliar with sitemaps, the priority field is used to signal the importance of a page relative to the others on the same website. It must be a decimal number between 0 and 1. The algorithm will accept two parameters, viewCount and commentCount, and will return the priority value. For example: GetPriority(100000, 100000); // Damn, a lot of views/comments! The returned value will be very close to 1, for example 0.995 GetPriority(3, 2); // Ok not many users are interested in this page, so for example it will return 0.082

• Terminal services and memory limits

  Is there a way in Terminal Services to set limits on memory related parameters for a process. For example working set size and, possibly, if it makes sense, total virtual memory allocation for the session? To turn the question around, we have an application which cannot allocate as much virtual memory running on a terminal server as it can when running on a desktop PC (both I would expect to have a limit of 2GB for user mode address space) and I was wondering if there is another limit for processes or users on a terminal server. Perhaps even 2GB per user rather than per process.

• security issue of Linux sudo command?

  Hello everyone, 1. I am using Red Hat Enterprise 5 Linux box. I find if a user is in /etc/sudoers file, then if the user run command with sudo, the user will run this command with root privilege (without knowing root password, the user runs sudo only need to input the user's own password in order to run a command with sudo). Is that correct understanding? 2. If yes, then is it a security hole? Since users other than root could run with root privilege? thanks in advance, George

  I am creating a WPF app that needs to allow users to work in a temporary disconnected state and I plan to use a Local Database Cache. My question's are about my data access layer. Do you typically create the whole DAL to point at the Cache or both and create a switching mechanism? Is Entity's a good way to go for my DAL against the Cache? I am used to L2S but my understanding is that I can't use that against SQLCE, correct? Thanks! PS: Any good resources out there for using Sync, Linq, and WPF ALL TOGETHER? Tutorials, videos, etc?

• TextMate can't find my RSpec gem in opt (from macports)

  I know I've had this problem before so I'm really frustrated. I've got the Ruby RSpec bundle installed for TextMate, but when I Run Behaviour Description or Run Focused Example I get this wonderful error: /System/Library/Frameworks/Ruby.framework/Versions/1.8/usr/lib/ruby/1.8/rubygems.rb:827: in `report_activate_error': Could not find RubyGem rspec (>= 1.1.0) (Gem::LoadError) from /System/Library/Frameworks/Ruby.framework/Versions/1.8/usr/lib/ruby/1.8/rubygems.rb:261: in `activate' from /System/Library/Frameworks/Ruby.framework/Versions/1.8/usr/lib/ruby /1.8/rubygems.rb:68:in `gem' from /Users/simon/Library/Application Support/TextMate/Bundles/Ruby RSpec.tmbundle/Support/lib/spec_mate.rb:13 from /tmp/temp_textmate.oWRPUR:3:in `require' from /tmp/temp_textmate.oWRPUR:3 (I added linebreaks to make it readable) I'm using macports so my rspec gem is installed in /opt/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/.   Hello, Am wondering if there would be any security flaw in this approach. I am writing a piece of code which allows users to upload files and another set to download those files. These files can be anything. User uploads the file (any file including .php files), it is renamed to an md5 hash (extension removed) and stored on server. A corresponding mySQL entry is made. The user trying to download the file, uses say download.php to download the file where the md5 file is sent (with the original name). Is there someway in which anyone can exploit the above scenario?

  I can't seem to get this to connect to the database so that I can run my prepared statement. • C# double-quoted path name being escaped when read from file

  I am trying to read in a text input file that contains a list of filenames (one per line). However, I am running into an issue if the user double-quotes the path (because it has a space in it). For example, a normal input file might have: C:\test\test.tiff C:\test\anothertest.tiff C:\test\lasttest.tiff These get read in fine by my code ("C:\\test\\test.tiff" etc) However, if I have the following input file: "C:\test with spaces\test.tiff" "C:\test with spaces\anothertest.tiff" "C:\test with spaces\lasttest.tiff" These get read in double-quotes and all ("\"C:\\test with spaces\\test.tiff\"" etc). This becomes a problem when I try to open the files (I understandably get invalid character exceptions). My question is, how do I fix this? I want to allow users to input quoted strings and handle them correctly. My first impression was to just write a little method that strips off beginning or ending quotes, but I thought there might be a better way.

• Get the UIWindow which is under the UIActionSheet

  I am trying to present a new UIViewController on top of the current current UIViewController. Here is the line of code that creates the desired effect: LoginViewController *loginViewController = [[LoginViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"LoginViewController" bundle:nil]; UIViewController *rootController = [[[UIApplication sharedApplication] keyWindow] rootViewController]; [rootController presentViewController:loginViewController animated:YES completion:nil]; The problem is that I added an UIActionSheet which asks the user to confirm the desired action (which is to log out). When the user confirms the action I run the above mentioned peace of code, but the UIActionSheet is still the keyWindow. Therefore the LoginViewController is not presented on top (the rootController is null when I try to debug). My question is: Can I somehow find the UIWindow which is under the UIActionSheet and from there get the root controller,or maybe I can dismiss programmatically the UIActionSheet when the users selects the log out action and only then execute the above code?   Using the jQuery Star Rating plugin everything works well until I select a star rating from the rating's callback handler. Simple example: $('.rating').rating({ ... callback: function(value){ $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: ... data: {rating: value}, success: function(data){ $('.rating').rating('select', 1); } }); } }); I'm guessing this infinite loop occurs because the callback is fired after a manual 'select' as well. Once a user submits their rating I'd like to 'select' the average rating across all users (this value is in data returned to the success handler). How can I do this without triggering an infinite loop?

• How to avoid this very heavy query that slows down the application?

  Hi, We have a web application running in a production enviroment and at some point the client complained about how slow the application got. When we checked what was going on with the application and the database we discover this "precious" query that was being executed by several users at the same time (thus inflicting an extremely high load on the database server): SELECT NULL AS table_cat, o.owner AS table_schem, o.object_name AS table_name, o.object_type AS table_type, NULL AS remarks FROM all_objects o WHERE o.owner LIKE :1 ESCAPE :"SYS_B_0" AND o.object_name LIKE :2 ESCAPE :"SYS_B_1" AND o.object_type IN(:"SYS_B_2", :"SYS_B_3") ORDER BY table_type, table_schem, table_name Our application does not execute this query, I believe it is an Hibernate internal query. I've found little information on why Hibernate does this extremely heavy query, so any help in how to avoid it very much appreciated! The production enviroment information: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.3 (Tikanga), JDK 1.5, web container OC4J (whitin Oracle Application Server), Oracle Database 10.1.0.4, JDBC Driver for JDK 1.2 and 1.3, Hibernate version 3.2.6.ga, connection pool library C3P0 version 0.9.1. • Jquery droppable live disabling/enabling

  I have a some draggables in a list of droppables (1 draggable per droppable li). When I move a draggable from one droppable to another free droppable, I want to diable the receiving droppable, and enable the droppable it is leaving from. In firebug the droppable class gets removed – but the functionality of the droppable remains. • Winforms application hungs when switching to another app

  Hi, I believe I have a potential threading issue. This started when I put the threading code. Could I have some rogue threads out there? what is the best way to zero in a threading problem? • checkins/recent not returning comments or even counts of comments

  My application has been using the checkins/recent endpoint to show where all the current users friends are currently at and I had included a button the user could press to comment on a checkin. The button used to have the comment count on it until recently. It seems the checkins/recent endpoint no longer returns comments or even a comment count for those checkins. I would have to query each checkin in order to get the comment count which adds to the data usage not to mention API usage counts. Is there another way to do this that I'm not seeing? Could you please at least put the comment count back? You have the photo information, why not comments? Thanks

• How to migrate from SourceGear Fortress 1.1.x to TFS 2010?

  I found this question but it was only similar and, more importantly, dated by over a year. I'm hoping there is something I can't find out there and that is better than what that answer points to. Requirements: Preserve source code history (even if only loosely via text only since all of our prior users may not be created in the TFS repository) Preserve our item tracking history (again, even if just loosely since Fortress wasn't all that great about this). Ultimately, I want some searchable history of what we have done in the past and why. I don't necessarily need all of the hooks in place tying work items to source code or anything like that, but I do need discussions and decisions associated with the work items kept around.
