How do I join a channel on Freenode with Empathy?

I have empathy already installed but am not sure how to configure it to join the channel at http://www.ape-project.org. I do not have a password or login name yet to properly configure the channel with Empathy and when I click "Join our IRC Channel" firefox comes back with an error stating: Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (irc) isn't associated with any program. What can I do to join this (freenode) channel? UPDATE 1 Using Empathy Version 2.23.1 When viewing accounts click "Add..." Protocol: "IRC" Network: "freenode" create new nickname, password, and real name. Then went back to ape-project.org link and click "Join our IRC Channel" again. It brings my Empathy contact list to the foreground but nothing happens...

Should data structures be integrated into the language (as in Python) or be provided in the standard library (as in Java)?

In Python, and most likely many other programming languages, common data structures can be found as an integrated part of the core language with their own dedicated syntax. If we put LISP's integrated list syntax aside, I can't think of any other languages that I know which provides some kind of data structure above the array as an integrated part of their syntax, though all of them (but C, I guess) seem to provide them in the standard library. From a language design perspective, what are your opinions on having a specific syntax for data structures in the core language? Is it a good idea, and does the purpose of the language (etc.) change how good this could be of a choice? Edit: I'm sorry for (apparently) causing some confusion about which data structures I mean. I talk about the basic and commonly used ones, but still not the most basic ones. This excludes trees (too complex, uncommon), stacks (too seldom used), arrays (too simple) but includes e.g. sets, lists and hashmaps.

Examples of Liskov Substitution

I'm facilitating a session next week on the Liskov Substitution Principle and I was wondering if anyone had any examples of violations 'from the trenches'? I'm looking for something other than uncle Bob's rectangle - square problem and the persistent set problem he talks about in A-PPP (although that is a great example). So far I'm using the example of a (very simple) List and an IndexedList as the 'correct' use of inheritance. And the addition of a Set to this hierarchy as a violation (as a Set is distinct; strengthening the pre condition of the Add method). I've also taken this great example and it's solution from this question Both those examples are great but I'm looking for something more subtle and harder to spot. So far I've come up with nothing so if you've got a great, subtle example post it up. Also, any metaphors you've come across that helped you understand LSP would be really useful too.

OpenGL Learning Material (that's up to date)

So im sure there are topics on this, but alot of them list older material. And the last book: http://www.amazon.com/OpenGL-SuperBible-Comprehensive-Tutorial-Reference/dp/0321712617/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1346116133&sr=8-1&keywords=opengl REALLY REALLY disappointed me. I DO NOT want to use someone else's library to learn this stuff, that bothers me SOOO much. So I was hoping there was a newer book that goes into detail, and doesn't use some sort of library "Hiding" everything from you. Or should I just look at older material? If so....anything thats not "too" out of date. Terrain tutorials are a plus (that's kinda my "goal"). Thanks

Few GUI problems with minimal install

I installed a minimal Ubuntu with a complete functional GUI, but facing a few problems. nm-applet's icon won't show in the notification area, but I can connect to wired internet fine. I am not able to configure my wireless or VPN this way. gksu's authentication screen is different from the usual graphical authentication - the screen turns gray as usual, but there are more options like save password for this session or keyring. And most importantly, it won't accept my password no matter what. And lastly, Gwibber seems to install no matter what, but there's not a single package in my knowledge that I installed has anything related to Gwibber. I would welcome any help regarding these three issues. I did not mention what packages I installed, because the list is long, but I will do so if anyone requests. Thank you in advance!

Trying to create a bash script that opens gnome-terminal, and then runs ls to display the contents of a directory, but it just opens gnome-terminal. I will be creating some other scripts that also use multiple commands. My script: #!/bin/bash gnome-terminal ls -a /examplefolder EDIT: To clarify what I'm trying to achieve. I'm trying to create a script that will open gnome-terminal, list the contents of /examplefolder, and then be ready for regular terminal usage. Is this possible, or am I barking up the wrong tree?

How do I mount shared folders (win7 host) in Ubuntu (guest) using VMware(tools v6)

Hello, Experts. I've successfully installed VMware tools for Ubuntu. Everything seems to work fine, but shared folders were not mounted automatically. How do I get them to work? If I run vmware-hgfsclient in terminal, I get the list of shared folders, but ls -l /mnt/hgfs is empty. Actually there's no hgfs dir in /mnt. I know I should probably use the vmware-hgfsclient tool, but I realy don't know how. P.S. I wouldn't ask if I could understand the vmware-hgfsclient help I've read. Any suggestions?

How to manage product backlog/user stories

We're about to start a new project using Agile (using TFS), and I have a couple of "good practice" questions regarding the product backlog:- When we first start adding users stories, is it a good idea to put them in (say) a "Backlog" iteration, or just leave their iteration blank? Obviously when the time comes to start work on a US it would be moved into the appropriate iteration backlog. When breaking an epic down into smaller USs, would I simply close the original epic, as it's no longer required? Or should I create the new USs as children of the epic? (it's then someone's responsibility to close the epic once all child USs have been completed). Lastly, should the product backlog list all USs regardless of status, or only those that have not been started (i.e in my proposed "Backlog" iteration)? I realise these questions aren't life-or-death, but it would be nice to know how other people manage their product backlogs so we can organise things properly from the start.

Kernel module compilation fails when installing vmware tools

When I install WMWare tools, I get this error for vmhgfs: /tmp/vmware-root/modules/vmhgfs-only/filesystem.c:47:28: fatal error: linux/smp_lock.h: No such file or directory compilation terminated. compilation terminated. make[2]: *** [/tmp/vmware-root/modules/vmhgfs-only/filesystem.o] Error 1 make[1]: *** [_module_/tmp/vmware-root/modules/vmhgfs-only] Error 2 make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-headers-3.0.0-12-generic' make: *** [vmhgfs.ko] Error 2 make: Leaving directory `/tmp/vmware-root/modules/vmhgfs-only' If you wish to have the shared folders feature, you can install the driver by running vmware-config-tools.pl again after making sure that gcc, binutils, make and the kernel sources for your running kernel are installed on your machine. These packages are available on your distribution's installation CD. And /mnt/hgfs is empty when sharing. If I run vmware-hgfsclient in a terminal, I get the list of shared folders but /mnt/hgfs is empty.

Powershell Active Directory Account Attribute to a variable

Sorry for the newbie question. I am using Powershell 3 to get a list of all user accounts. I am trying to generate an output for accounts, either "Enabled" or "Disabled". I am able to get the account status code from active directory using: $rc = $Rech.PropertiesToLoad.Add("userAccountControl"); That will display the correct account status code. When I try to use an if statement on the value, I dont get any result. How do I put this value into a variable to use some logic with it? In the end, my requirements are to have the output to an CSV file that I can send to HR and have them examin it and instead of a code I would like to have it say "Enabled" or "Disabled". Thank you.

Screensaver + lock double login problem after Maverick upgrade

Just found something strange after updating from 10.04 to 10.10. I've set up my screensaver to lock the account when activated. When I log back in, I see my desktop for a second and then the screensaver starts again and I have to re-login. I checked my process list in gnome system monitor, and I have two gnome-screensaver processes(!?), one started as /usr/bin/gnome-screensaver and other simply as gnome-screensaver. And no, I did not start one manually. Where do I look for a way to switch off one of those (supposing that's the problem)? I did not find anything in my startup applications.

How to completely integrate Nemo with Ubuntu?

I have installed Nemo (a fork of Nautilus created by the Linux Mint Team) in my Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS with Gnome Shell 3.4.2. I followed the instructions here (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DefaultFileManager), changing the "inode" and "x-directory" in the file "defaults.list", to make Nemo my default file manager. Now everything works perfectly, except for one thing: opening folders from desktop. I have set the option "Have file manager handle the desktop" on. Cool. The problem is that the desktop seems to be handled by Nautilus only, even if I have set another file manager as default. Every time I double click a folder on the desktop, it is opened by Nautilus, not Nemo. Please, does anybody know how to fix this? Thanks for your time. :)

Directory paths for resources and assets

If I have a file stucture for my final, released game something like: Main folder Media Images Other assets Sounds Executable List item And a different one for my 'in development' project, with the same Media folder but: Main Source and .obj, etc. Media with everything Bin folder with executable I obviously cannot hardcode file pathnames into this, like: "../Media/Image/evilguy.png" or "Media/Image/foo.jpg" because they wouldn't work with one of the builds and would require a lot of switching names. Instead, does it make sense for my resource manager, that loads everything, to have some kind of prefix path? Then, I can just do Get("foo.jpg") or Get("Sounds/boom.ogg") And simply switch out, for the final release, the ctr argument from the relative path for the development build to the release layout? If not, how have other people sorted these sorts of things out?

Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1000 Again ! Ubuntu 13.04 x64

First I have to say that I tried everything written about this concept. The problem is that it stops working randomly in 3 main forms : 1 - sometimes it disconnect from wireless network and reconnect automatically 2 - sometimes it disconnect and wont connect no matter what (needs reboot) 3 - some times it's still connected but cannot ping or surf or whatever. I already tried disabling N mod using these commands : sudo modprobe -r iwlwifi modprobe iwlwifi 11n_disable=1 (or 0, whatever) it didn't help . these are the results of lspci, sudo lshw -C network, On my next post I’ll show different approaches to integrate WebCenter Portal, UCM and SES based on some common scenarios. Let’s get started. WebCenter Content Configuration WebCenter Content has a component that adds functionality to the content server to allow it to be searched via the Oracle SES. To enable the component installation, go to Administration -> Admin Server and select SESCrawlerExport. Click the update button and restart UCM_server1 managed server. Once the managed server is back, we’ll configure the component. In the menu, under Administration you should see SESCrawlerExport. Click on the link. You’ll see the window below. Click on Configure SESCrawlerExport. Configure the values below: Hostname: SES hostname. Feed Location: Directory where data feeds will be saved. Metadata List: List of metadata that will be searchable by SES. After updating the values click on the Update button. Come back to the SESCrawlerExport Administration UI and click on Take Snapshot button. It will create the data feeds in the specified Feed Location. To check if the correct configuration was done, please access the following URL http://<ucm_server>:<port>/cs/idcplg?IdcService=SES_CRAWLER_DOWLOAD_CONFIG&source=default. I had the following issues with my Sony Vaio E14115's touchpad on Ubuntu 12.04: Right click not working Vertical scrolling not working Then I followed these steps to fix it: Downloaded a patch for Psmouse sudo apt-get install dkms build-essential cd ~/Desktop tar jxvf psmouse-3.2.0-24-generic-pae.tar.bz2 sudo mv psmouse-3.2.0-24-generic-pae /usr/src cd /usr/src sudo chmod -R a+rx psmouse-3.2.0-24-generic-pae sudo dkms add -m psmouse -v 3.2.0-24-generic-pae sudo dkms build -m psmouse -v 3.2.0-24-generic-pae sudo dkms install -m psmouse -v 3.2.0-24-generic-pae sudo modprobe -r psmouse sudo modprobe psmouse This fixed me the problems of Rightclick and vertical scrolling. But I still have an issue of not able to click and drag ie Clicking the leftmouse button and dragging with another finger. It doesn't move! Maybe it doesn't detect the 2nd finger. When I check the capabilities of my Synaptics touchpad by using xinput list-props "SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad"|grep Capabilities I get the following output: Synaptics Capabilities (304): 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1 Please help me out.

Text comparison algorithm using java-diff-utils

One of the features in our project is to implement a comparison algorithm between two versions of text and provide a % change between the two versions. While I was researching, I came across google java-diff-utils project. Has anyone used this for comparing text using java-diff-utils ? Using this utility, I can get a list of "delta" which I assume I can use it for the % of difference between two versions of the text? Is this a correct way of doing this? If you have done any text comparison algorithm using Java, could you give me some pointers?
