• Maintaining the query string in ASP.Net MVC

  Hi all Just beginning my journey in ASP.Net MVC and I have a query about something before I dig myself in too deep. I have a table, which is paged, and I have 2 controls above the table: Dropdown that defines order of the results and apply button next to it Textbox that defines a filter and apply button next to it What I need to achieve is that if the user changes the order or adds a filter I fire of an AJAX call to my action like such: /Membership/Users?sort=value&filter=value&page=pagenumber. So my controller action is: // GET Membership/Users?sort=&filter=&page= public ActionResult Users(string sort, string filter, string page) So I have 3 questions: Is this the correct approach? What would be the best way to ensure that the query string is maintained, bearing in mind that the action will nearly always be called by Jquery/Ajax functions? If I wanted to link directly to this action passing the arguments would I need to hard-code the querystring? Thanks

  Using MySql 5, I have a task where I need to update one table based on the contents of another table. For example, I need to add 'A1' to table 'A' if table 'B' contains 'B1'. I need to add 'A2a' and 'A2b' to table 'A' if table 'B' contains 'B2', etc.. In our case, the value in table 'B' we're interested is an enum. Right now I have a stored procedure containing a series of statements like: INSERT INTO A SELECT 'A1' FROM B WHERE B.Value = 'B1'; --Repeat for 'B2' -> 'A2a', 'A2b'; 'B3' -> 'A3', etc... Is there a nicer more DRY way of accomplishing this?

• Hiding Options of a Select with JQuery

  Okay, let's start with an example. Keep in mind, this is only an example. <select id = "selection1">     <option value = "1" id = "1">Number 1</option>     <option value = "2" id = "2">Number 2</option>     <option value = "3" id = "3">Number 3</option> </select> Now from here, we have a dropdown with 3 options. What I want to do now is to hide an option. Adding style = "display:none" will not help. The option would not appear in the dropdownlist, but using the arrow keys, you can still select it. Essentially, it does exactly what the code says. It isn't displayed, and it stops there. A JQuery function of $("#1").hide() will not work. Plus, I don't only want to hide the option, I want to completely remove it. Any possibility on doing so? Do I have to use parent/sibling/child elements? If so, I'm still not sure how. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.           Another question - It's related Ok, so I found out that there is a .remove() available in JQuery. Works well. But what if I want to bring it back? if(condition)     {     $(this).remove();     } I can loops this. Shouldn't be complicated.   I am just starting out in Rails, and trying to develop a simple application. I need to validate three values submitted to the application - each must meet the same validation criteria. The validation is pretty simple: Value is valid if unqiue, null or equal to "p" or "d". The following gets me halfway there: validates_uniqueness_of :value1, :value2, :value3, :allow_nil => true I think I can use :unless to check whether the value is either "p" or "d", however I can't figure out how. I guess I am trying to combine validates_uniqueness_of with validates_inclusion_of. Any suggestions?

• WCF REST Does Not Contain All of the Relative File Path

  I have a RESTful WCF 3.5 endpoint as such: System.Security.User.svc This is supposed to represent the namespace of the User class and is desired behavior by our client. I have another endpoint I created for testing called: Echo.svc I am writing an overridden IHttpModule and in my module, I follow what almost everyone does by doing: string path = HttpContext.Current.Request.AppRelativeCurrentExecutionFilePath; If I make a call to: http://localhost/services/Echo/test My path variable has a value of '~/echo/test' However, when I make a call to: http://localhost/services/System.Security.User/test My path variable has a value of '~/system.security.user' In my 2nd situation, it is stripping off the '/test' on the end of any endpoint that contains multiple periods. This is undesired behavior and the only solution I have found to fixing this is some ugly string manipulation using the property which does contain the complete URL path: string rawPath = HttpContext.Current.Request.RawUrl; This returns '/services/system.security.user/test'. Does anyone know why my first situation does not return the rest of the URL path for endpoints that contain multiple periods in the name?

Obviously this is not working so I think it may be related to scope. I've tried var, property, and declaring the property outside of target1. Since var seems to be mutable, it looks like I need to use it instead, but each time my output is empty.   I have a drop down which has a method which binds data to it: dropDown.Items.Clear() dropDown.AppendDataBoundItems = True Select Case selType Case SelectionTypes.Empty dropDown.Items.Insert(0, New ListItem("", "")) Case SelectionTypes.Any dropDown.Items.Insert(0, New ListItem("ANY", "")) Case SelectionTypes.Select dropDown.Items.Insert(0, New ListItem("Select One", "")) End Select BindDropDown(val) The BindDropDown method simply sets the datasource, datakeyname, datavaluename, and then databinds the data. For a reason which I cannot avoid, I MUST call this method twice sometimes. When it is called twice, All of the databound items show up two times, but the top item (the one I manually insert) is there only once. Is ASP doing something wierd when i databind twice even though i clear the list between? Or does it have to do something with the viewstate/controlstate? EDIT__ The entire page, and this control has EnableViewState="false" EDIT___ The dropdown is inside a form view. After the selected value is set I have to rebind the dropdown just in case the selected value is not there [because it is an inactive user]. After this, the formview duplicates the databound items.

  Given a table that has three columns ID (Primary Key, not-autoincrementing) GroupID SomeValue I am trying to write a single SQL INSERT INTO statement that will make a copy of every row that has one GroupID into a new GroupID. Example beginning table: ID | GroupID | SomeValue ------------------------ 1 | 1 | a 2 | 1 | b Goal after I run a simple INSERT INTO statement: ID | GroupID | SomeValue ------------------------ 1 | 1 | a 2 | 1 | b 3 | 2 | a 4 | 2 | b I thought I could do something like: INSERT INTO MyTable ( [ID] ,[GroupID] ,[SomeValue] ) ( SELECT (SELECT MAX(ID) + 1 FROM MyTable) ,@NewGroupID ,[SomeValue] FROM MyTable WHERE ID = @OriginalGroupID ) This causes a PrimaryKey violation since it will end up reusing the same Max(ID)+1 value multiple times as it seems. Is my only recourse to a bunch of INSERT statements in a T-SQL WHILE statement that has an incrementing Counter value? I also don't have the option of turning the ID into an auto-incrementing Identity column since that would breaking code I don't have source for.

  I did find an answer to this title and I did do a little research but I'm still not getting the flow. Here is what I want to happen: 1) click a button on the presenter view to open a modal view. 2) retrieve some value and click a button to close the modal view....sending the value to the presentor view and execute a method. I get that this works like a callback but I still can't figure out where to put the callback stuff. So, how exactly do I do this? A) In the presentViewController completion block, should I include the presenter view method to execute when modal view is completed? Or: B) In the modal view's dismissViewControllerAnimated completion block, should I include the presenter view method to execute when modal view is completed? Can somebody help me with some sample code? Or at least help me get the flow of which block to put the code in? Thank you, P

• DBCC CHECKDB WITH DATA_PURITY gives out of range error

  Hi there, I have restore a SQL Server 2000 database onto SQL Server 2005 and then run DBCC CHECKDB WITH DATA_PURITY and I get this error: Msg 2570, Level 16, State 3, Line 2 Page (1:19558), slot 13 in object ID 181575685, index ID 1, partition ID 293374720802816, alloc unit ID 11899744092160 (type "In-row data"). Column "NumberOfShares" value is out of range for data type "numeric". Update column to a legal value. The column NumberOfShares is a numeric (19,6) data type. If I run the following select max (NumberOfShares) from AUDIT_Table select min (NumberOfShares) from AUDIT_Table I get: 22678647.839110 -1845953000.000000 These values are inside the bounds of a numeric (19,6) so I'm not sure why the DBCC check fails. Any ideas to find out why it fails? Do I need to use DBCC PAGE? How would you troubleshoot this? Thanks, Mark.

Note: the data might eventually support uploading any locale. e.g. assuming one of the fields denoting a user is gender mapped to an enumeration and stored in the database as 0 for male and 1 for female. 0 and 1 being short values. If I have to import the values I cannot expect the user to punch in numbers (since they are not intuitive and is cumbersome when the enumerations are bigger), what would be the correct way to map to enumerations. Or, asked another way, since F# has (implicitly) the concept of tuple parameters, curried parameters, and BCL parameters, and I know how to distinguish between curried and tuple-style, how can I force the third style (a la BCL methods)? Right now, I have followed some tutorials online which have let me create the form to query the user and pass the data into an IWizard class, but I don't know what to do from there.   I have a cron script on a shared web host that occasionally gets killed. I'd like to make a loop in bash that tries again if it gets killed, because most of the time it will make it. I'm having trouble with the syntax for storing a boolean value :P #!/bin/bash VAR=0; while [ $VAR ]; do if nice -19 mysqldump -uuser -ppassword -h database.hostname.com --skip-opt --all --complete-insert --add-drop-table database_name > ~/file/system/path/filename.sql; then VAR=1; fi done So the script recovers from a killed process okay, but once it's run properly, the new VAR value doesn't kill the while loop. What am I doing wrong?

• How to make a form using ajax, onchange event, reload to SAME page

  I've been studying this for a while and I'm not sure if I'm going about this the right way because every form I setup according to examples, it doesn't do what I need. I need to setup a form that will: set session when you select from dropdown menu not reload/refresh page (i've read that using AJAX solves this) submit and stay on SAME page (confused because most AJAX examples send it to different process.php page which is supposedly "invisible" but it doesn't "stay" on the same page, it redirects. Basically, client selects quantity of 1 to 10. If they select "2"... it does NOT reload the page.. but it DOES set a session[quantity]=2. Should be simple... but do I POST to same page as form? or POST to different page and it somehow redirects? Also, one test I did it kept pasting my "echo session[quantity]" down the page like 7, 2, 3, 5, etc. etc. each time instead of replacing it. I would paste code but it's all over the place and I'm hoping for direction on which methods to use. Feel I need to start all over again. • erlang io:format, and a hanging web application

  While I'm learning a new language, I'll typically put lots of silly println's to see what values are where at specific times. It usually suffices because the languages typically have available a tostring equivalent. In trying that same approach with erlang, my webapp just "hangs" when there's a value attempted to be printed that's not a list. This happens when variable being printed is a tuple instead of a list. There's no error, exception, nothing... just doesn't respond. Now, I'm muddling through by being careful about what I'm writing out and as I learn more, things are getting better. But I wonder, is there a way to more reliably to [blindly] print a value to stdout? Thanks, --tim

If I put a breakpoint on the get method of Platforms, it doesn't get called. I don't understand as Platforms is what the XAML should be connecting to!
