  • ASMX Still slow after 'Generate serialization assembly'

    This question is related to: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/784918/asmx-web-service-slow-first-request. I inherited a proxy to a legacy ASMX Service. Basically as the post above states, the first call performance is literally 10 times slower than the subsequent calls. I went ahead and turned on ‘Generate serialization assembly' on the project that contains the proxy. The 'serializers' assembly is actually generated. However, I haven't seen any performance increase at all. Do I need to do anything else other than make sure the 'serializers' assembly is in the client's bin directory? Do I have to 'link' the proxy to the 'serializers' assembly during proxy generation (wsdl.exe)? I guess I'm stuck at this point. J Saunders where u at? :)

  • How to reset the value of NSInterval ?

    I am writing a small game. After the completion of the game we get the previous screen. So, we can play again. But problem is that the time interval (NSTime Interval)started first time while running game is still continuing. For example the time interval of my touch when I first started game is 3.0 seconds. When again I played (not quitting the application) the time interval is 3.0 seconds + interval till the present touch ? Hoe can I make it work ? Please help me with solution for my problem.

    This questions involves 2 different implementations of essentially the same code. First, using delegate to create a Comparison method that can be used as a parameter when sorting a collection of objects: class Foo { public static Comparison<Foo> BarComparison = delegate(Foo foo1, Foo foo2) { return foo1.Bar.CompareTo(foo2.Bar); }; } I use the above when I want to have a way of sorting a collection of Foo objects in a different way than my CompareTo function offers. For example: List<Foo> fooList = new List<Foo>(); fooList.Sort(BarComparison); Second, using IComparer: public class BarComparer : IComparer<Foo> { public int Compare(Foo foo1, Foo foo2) { return foo1.Bar.CompareTo(foo2.Bar); } } I use the above when I want to do a binary search for a Foo object in a collection of Foo objects. For example: BarComparer comparer = new BarComparer(); List<Foo> fooList = new List<Foo>(); Foo foo = new Foo(); int index = fooList.BinarySearch(foo, comparer); My questions are: What are the advantages and disadvantages of each of these implementations? What are some more ways to take advantage of each of these implementations? Is there a way to combine these implementations in such a way that I do not need to duplicate the code? Can I achieve both a binary search and an alternative collection sort using only 1 of these implementations?

  • Lazy Tables app from iphone

    I am new to iphone development. I have parsed a youtube file and displaying its contents with the image in the table view. But the scrolling has become slower because of displaying image.So i want to display the image as the lazy tables program from apple docs.Since they have used navigation based application , their rootviewcontroller loads first and then the delegate class call the parsing ,and when they reload the table view, the contents are displayed. The data array count shows 25. I am using a view controller to display the tables on the present modal view, more over when i run my application, first delegate methods call the parsing. So when i click the youtube icon in my landing page it navigates to table view. So by this time data array count shows 0. I have created table view in interface builder and set the outlets to the file owner properly. Please help me out. I want to increasing the scrolling performance. Thanks.

    I'm having a strange behavior with NameScopes in WPF, I have created a CustomControl called FadingPopup which is a child class of Window with nothing special inside. <Window.Resources> <local:FadingPopup> <Button Name="prec" Content="ahah"></Button> <Button Content="{Binding ElementName=prec, Path=Content}"></Button> </local:FadingPopup> </Window.Resources> In this snippet, the binding doesn't work (always empty). If I move these buttons from the resources to the content of the window like this : <Window ...> <Button Name="prec" Content="ahah"></Button> <Button Content="{Binding ElementName=prec, Path=Content}"></Button> </Window> The binding works as expected. Now, I have tried a mix between these two snippets : <Window...> <Window.Resources> <local:FadingPopup> <Button Name="prec" Content="Haha"></Button> </local:FadingPopup> </Window.Resources> <Button Content="{Binding ElementName=prec, Path=Content}"></Button> </Window> It works as well. Apparently, if the button prec is in the resources it registers itself in the NameScope of the Window. BUT, it seems that the Binding tries to resolve ElementName with the NameScope of the FadingPopup (which is null), thus the binding doesn't work... My first snipped works well if I specify a NameScope in my class FadingPopup : static FadingPopup() { NameScope.NameScopeProperty.OverrideMetadata(typeof(FadingPopup), new PropertyMetadata(new NameScope())); } But I don't like this solution because I don't understand why, in the first snippet, prec is registered in the NameScope of Window, but ElementName is resolved with the NameScope of FadingGroup (which is null by default)... Does someone can explain to me what is going on ? Why my first snippet doesn't work, if I don't specify a default NameScope for FadingGroup ?

It's all set to run on IE-7 standards mode (I'm targeting IE7 and above). I know about the separate z-stacks of IE, so by default the third DIV should be beneath the second DIV. To fix this problem there is some Javascript which sets the z-orders of first and third DIV to 1000, and the z-order of the second DIV to 999. Unfortunately this does not help. If the z-indexes were set in markup, this would work, but why not from JS? Note: This problem does not exist in IE8 standards mode, but I'm targetting IE7, so I can't rely on that. Also, if you save this to your hard drive and then open it up, at first IE complains something about ActiveX and stuff. After you wave it away, everything works as expected. But if you refresh the page, the problem is there again.

  • Load on page inside another onClick

    Hello, I need to include the content, scripts, forms and dynamic abilities of one page in another onClick. Take a look at http://www.divethegap.com/scuba-diving-programmes-dive-the-gap/dahab-master-scuba-diver.html Then follow one of the links that says 'Beginner' 'Open Water Diver' etc.... You will find a PHP page with a series of options. It is an adaption of the wordpress blog system to produce only specific options for specific programmes by considering each type of each diving programme a category and then displaying only results from that category. You will see that each option is also a collapsible panel and there are also several javascripts that calculate durations, quantities and prices. There is also a validating webform at the end. Now go back to the first page. What I would like to do is include all the content from the second page after the main header inside tabbed panels on the first page so that the customers can immidietly see everything that is included. Essentially the options on the first page would become a series of tabs. The only way I can see to do this is with an iFrame as each option would need a unique URL ending (that is .php?cat=26 or .php?cat=27). THe problem is that the collapsible panels will not work with an iFrame as the iFrame will not resize when the panels open. There were also some calculation problems, but I think that was more down to me staring at the screen for the last 3 hours not remembering to include everything. I have tried it with resizing iframe SSI scripts and have got nowhere. I tried actually embedding it in the page better with a ajax script, but that left behind all the scripts that make it work. I checked with full URL's on everything and it would not take work with any scripts. I know that you could just make the whole page reload but then the user would be at the top of the page again, and even if another script was applied to slowly bring them down again it would not be anything near as easy to use as if it was like tabbed panels.   • Jquery UI Autocomplete widget conflict qith jqeury.menu widget - how can I solve it?

    My app already has a completed menu using jquery.menu.js found at http://wiki.jqueryui.com/Menu. I'm now also trying to add the jquery autocomplete widget from jquery ui 1.8.1 - but both of these have a .menu() function that conflicts with each other. If I put jquery-ui-1.8.1.custom.js first in the head, then autocomplete works but the menu does not. If I put jquery-menu.js first in the head, then the menu works but autocomplete doesnt. Is there a way to solve this without editing either plugin? (If I edit, I will probably lose those changes the next time either plugin is upgraded)

  • Can I use the CSS :visited pseudo class on 'wildcard' links?

    Let's say I have a site with multiple links as follows: www.example.com/product/1 www.example.com/product/2 www.example.com/product/3 I also append tracking info to links from time to time so that I can see how my site is being used, e.g, if somebody visits the products page from the product browser I would set a ref parameter: www.example.com/product/1&ref=pb www.example.com/product/2&ref=pb www.example.com/product/3&ref=pb The problem with this is that if the user visits a link of the first type and then views a link of the second type then the :visited pseudo class doesn't seem to apply because the browser only seems to match on exact URLs. Is there any way to have "wildcards" apply to links in this sense, so that when the user sees either the first type or the second type of link that it is highlighted? Note: I cannot change this "ref" architecture; it is inherited.

    Hey, Basically I've got some structs of type Ship which are going to go on a board which can have a variable width and height. The information about the ships is read in from a file, and I just need to know the best way to make sure that none of the ships overlap. Here is the structure of Ship: int x // x position of first part of ship int y // y position of first part of ship char dir // direction of the ship, either 'N','S','E' or 'W' int length // length of the ship Also, what would be a good way to handle the directions. Something cleaner than using a switch statement and using a different condition for each direction. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Q: The first is how do I set up perspective views in Open GL ES 2.0 - do I need to include Open GL ES 1.0 and use glOrtho, or is there a new way? Q: I want to use the 4th quadrant of a Cartesian co-ordinate system for my game and not use -0.5 to +0.5 for values on screen, how once the first question is answered can I achieve this?     Hi, Hoping someone can assist but I need assistance with overlaying one individual div over another individual div, i.e. my code looks like this: <div class="navi"></div> <div id="infoi"><img src="info_icon2.png" height="20" width="32"/></div> Unfortunately I cannot nest the infoi div or img inside the first div (class navi) - it has to be two separate divs as shown but I need to know how I could place the img div over the first div (navi) and to the right most side and centered on top of the navi div.   • DB2 load partitioned data in parallel

    I have a 10-node DB2 9.5 database, with raw data on each machine (ie node1:/scratch/data/dataset.1 node2:/scratch/data/dataset.2 ... node10:/scratch/data/dataset.10 There is no shared NFS mount - none of my machines could handle all of the datasets combined. each line of a dataset file is a long string of text, column delimited. The first column is the key. I don't know the hash function that DB2 will use, so dataset is not pre-partitioned. Short of renaming all of my files, is there any way to get DB2 to load them all in parallel? I'm trying to do something like load from '/scratch/data/dataset' of del modified by coldel| fastparse messages /dev/null replace into TESTDB.data_table part_file_location '/scratch/data'; but I have no idea how to suggest to db2 that it should look for dataset.1 on the first node, etc.

    Hey Everyone, This maybe a very mundane question, but this is the first jQuery plugin that I write and I'm a bit fuzzy on understanding the scope rules in Javascript. I'm trying to write an simple jQuery plugin that wraps around the Stack Overflow API. I'm starting off by trying to work with the Flair API. I wanted to make the plugin as configurable as possible so that you can easily pass it the domain and user id, and generate multiple Flairs. var superUser = $.jStackOverflow.flair({domain:"superuser.com", id: 30162, parentId:'#su-flair'}); var stackOverflow = $.jStackOverflow.flair({domain:"stackoverflow.com", id: 55954, parentId:'#so-flair'}); The problem is, when it makes the second call, its somehow using the correct domain and id parameters, but the parentId field that it's using in the callback function to create the html, is using the first parameter.   • Need help writing jQuery to loop through table and inject markers into google map?

    I am new to jQuery. I've done some simple things with it but what I am attempting now is a over my head and I need some help. I am building a locator for all the firearms dealers in the US for a client. I am working within Drupal. I have a proximity search by zip code that works great. If you search by zip a list of paginated results shows up in an html table that can by paged through via ajax. I would like a map to be above this list with markers corresponding to the names and addresses being listed. I already have all the lat and long values in the table results. I want the script to update the markers and automatically zoom to fit the markers in the view when a user changes the sort order of the table or pages through the results. Also, I'd like to have a hover highlight effect over the rows of the table that simultaneously highlight the corresponding marker, and have a click on the table row equal a click on a marker that pops up a marker info window to be populated using jQuery to read the name and address fields of the table. Hope this all makes sense. I know I'm putting a lot out there, I'm not asking for someone to write the whole script, just wanted to give as many details as possible. Thanks for any help.     I'm having a look at Entity Framework and everything I'm reading takes a data centric approach to explaining EF. By that I mean that the fundamental relationships of the system are first defined in the database and objects are generated that reflect those relationships. Examples Quickstart (Entity Framework) Using Entity Framework entities as business objects? The EF documentation implies that it's not necessary to start from the database layer, e.g. Developers can work with a consistent application object model that can be mapped to various storage schemas When designing a new system (simplified version), I tend to first create a class model, then generate business objects from the model, code business layer stuff that can't be generated, and then worry about persistence (or rather work with a DBA and let him worry about the most efficient persistence strategy). That object centric approach is well supported by ORM technologies such as (n)Hibernate. Is there a reasonable path to an object centric approach with EF? Will I be swimming upstream going that route? Any good starting points?

  • Using GLOrtho to view Side, Front, Top perspectives of a 3D scene

    Dear all, I'm building a game level editing app as part of a university project. In my application I have multiple viewports, a Perspective viewport and three orthographic views all setup to view the same scene. I've successfuly setup the orthographic views and can translate and scale them to mimic scrolling and zooming. Unfortunately, I'm having one problem - my scene still contains 3 dimensions, so objects viewed in orthographic mode of certain depths are clipped when they fall outside of my clipping volume. Most 3D authoring tools or level editors allow you to view all objects in orthographic mode regardless of depth. I guess what I need to do is scale my scene in the appropriate dimension so that all values lie between 1 and -1, is there a straightforward way of going about this? What headers do I put in a second packet to continue on with the data stream?

  • How do I set a VB.Net ComboBox default value

    I can not locate the correct method to make the first item in a combo box visible. The app starts with an empty combo box. The user makes a radio box selection then clicks Go! (how original). The combo box is loaded via an LDAP query. All this is working just fine. The problem is the combo box still appears to the user to be empty. They must click the arrow to see the options. How do I make the first option 'visible' after the users clicks Go!? I thought it would be simple... Thanks, Ed

  • CSS border and the :hover dynamic pseudo-class

    Hi All, I have built a persistent dropline menu with two levels using only CSS. It is pretty standard. It is a nested set of UL's and the UL's :hover state is what shows and hides the sub menu levels. Something like this: | *Pets* | Colors | Cars | | Cats | Dogs | Birds| Goats | Sheep | | Pets | *Colors* | Cars | | Red | Orange | Green | Blue| Yellow | I then added a 1px border at the bottom of the first level UL element. Like this: | *Pets* | Colors | Cars | -------------------------------------- | Cats | Dogs | Birds| Goats | Sheep | When I hover over a first level item (Pets), and then move the mouse down to the second level (Cats), the entire second level disappears. I finally figured out that the UL's 1px border is not included in the hover area for the UL. Can I add a border to the bottom of a dropline menu level without messing up the menu hovering? Thanks!

  • Emacs enum indentation

    I'm having a problem with Emacs's indentation of Java enums. While it indents the first member OK, it wants to give all of the rest of the static enum members an additional level of indentation. It looks like this: class MyClass { public enum MyEnum { ONE(1), //good TWO(2), // not good! THREE(3), FOUR(4); private final int value; } } When I run C-c C-s on the line that opens the enum, it gives me ((inclass 1) (topmost-intro 1)), which doesn't seem quite right -- it seems like it should be giving brace-list-open. When I run it on the first enum member, it gives me ((defun-block-intro 21)), which is definitely not right. Every subsequent member gives (statement-cont 50). I'm in java-mode and I'm using the java style of indentation. Does anyone know what the problem might be?
