• Auto login on website

  I'm working on an application which consists of a Web Application and a Standalone Application. Both of the applications use the same database and require authentication and authorization. Within the Standalone Application a web browser needs to be opened, going to a page within the Web Application. This page is for authorized users only. Could anyone tell me if there is an easy way to automatically login within the Web Application via the Standalone Application? Besides using cookies or providing a token in the url. Thank you.

• Naive question about implementing RSS

  I have a naive question about RSS feeds. I have a series of timed events which appear on my site and that I make available as an RSS feed for other applications to import. Who is typically responsible for truncating this feed? Over the next year, I can see my feed having thousands of items. Should the URL mysite.com/rss always return all items? And leave it to the readers to just show the most recent? Or is it more customary that I only return, say, the top 50? Expecting the readers to cache older items? (And, if so, is there a convention for readers to ask the server for the "next page")? What is the typical behaviour of something like FriendFeed when it pulls in an RSS stream?

• Clean install of IIS 6 on Windows Server 2003 ignoring 'web.config'?

  Hi, Any help with this would be really appreciated! As the title suggests, I'm running a brand new install of Windows Server 2003 and IIS 6 and I'm basically attempting to mirror a live web server onto a new internal development server, which runs the same setup. It's an ASP.NET site that relies heavily on URL rewriting (using Intelligencia). ASP.NET is set to run on v2.0.50727 on both servers. I've tried intentionally introduce syntax errors into the web.config and it just appears to be ignoring them completely, so given IIS 6 doesn't read the web.config, the rest of the site doesn't work at all (I get a 404 error, as a 'Default.aspx' doesn't exist since the web.config handles the default page rewriting). Having looked at the Application Mapping, '.config' files are set to use the default 'c:\windows\microsoft.net\framework\v2.0.50727\aspnet_isapi.dll' which exists. Is there anything else I may be missing? Thanks in advance.

  I am using Jquery to make an image scroll across my page horizontally. The only problem is that it uses a serious amount of cpu usage. Up to 100% on a single core laptop in firefox. What could cause this??? • CSS layout changes in Internet explorer

  My problem: I just coded a website that is styled just fine in chrome and firefox. However in internet explorer(9) it breaks. the gray header background is supposed to be pushed up to the right of the logo block, and the buttons are supposed to be in the dark grey area. • I have a BHO in c++ and i need to block some keyboard controls (Ctrl-o) in a i-frame.

  I need to know of a way to prevent the user to 'open a new url' (with Ctrl-o) as soon as he has the focus on my sidebar (right-sided iframe). In fact, my sidebar offers some controls and the user should not be able to 'navigate' to other website through the sidebar. I'm using a bho in C++ using ATL(active template library), but maybe if anyone knows of a simplier way like in JS(javascript) or PHP(Hypertext Preprocessor) ? Any ideas is appreciated. • Favicon to PNG in PHP

  I need a PHP script to convert favicons to PNGs while keeping their original dimensions. I know Google has it's secret icon converter - http://www.google.com/s2/favicons?domain=http://facebook.com/ but this converts favicons to 16x16 even if they they were originally larger. So basically I need this, minus the shrinking effect. I've also seen this - http://www.controlstyle.com/articles/programming/text/php-favicon/ but I couldn't get it to work after hours of messing around with it. Basically I am trying to automatically grab the icon for a link that will be as large as possible - automatically 48x48 png based on a URL would be the perfect scenario, but I don't know of any humanly possible way to do this given that no websites happen to keep a 48x48 icon in a publicly accessible spot. Does anybody know of a script/service or have a suggestion? Thanks!

• How to embed cover art in an MP3 file so that the iPhone player displays it when downloaded

  I want to be able to provide a URL to a music track, and when that track is played on an iPhone, to show the cover art. I've tried embedding the cover art as an ID3 v2.3 tag, and while desktop players like VLC and Windows Media Player can see it, it seems the iPhone doesn't. Is this possible? Does anyone know of a way to achieve this - preferably a method which can be automated? Edit: this may not be possible - even if I add cover art with iTunes, the resulting file will still not have the coverart displayed when played as a download :(

• How do I track images embedded in HTML?

  Hi, I'd like to track the views/impressions of images on web pages, but still allow the images to be embedded in HTML, like in the "img src="http://mysite.com/upload/myimage.jpg"/" element. I know in Windows I can write a handler for ".jpg" so the URL will actually trigger a handling function instead of loading the images from disk. Is it possible to do that in python/django on Ubuntu server? Can web browser still cache the jpg files if it is not a straight file path? It looks to me that this is how google picasaweb handles the image file name. I'd like to get some ideas on how to implement that. Thanks! -Yi

  I've implemented a jquery counter script (count up from say 50 to 100 with different increments) that I found from this question: jQuery counter to count up to a target number The scripts works great except for in Internet Explorer 8 (and possibly other IE versions?). Here's an error message from IE with the URL to the creator of the script's demo. Message: 'undefined' is null or not an object Line: 32 Char: 17 Code: 0 URI: http://www.ulmanen.fi/stuff/counter.php I'm just wondering if anyone know how this can be fixed. I'm guessing it has to do with el.html() not finding any data but I can't really figure this out. This would be a library that would basic consist of the concept of nodes & relationships, for example to model web pages/files linked under a URL, or modeling IT infrastructure. It would have key methods such as: Node.GetDirectParents() Node.GetRootParents() Node.GetDirectChildren() Node.GetAllChildren() So it's smarts would include the ability to "walk the tree" of nodes based on the relationships when someone does ask for "give me all the children under this node" for example.   I have a webcam that I want to do some image processing on using Python. It's coming through as a Motion-JPEG. I want to try to process the stuff "live," but really what I want to do is this: Open the URL, start data streaming to some buffer... Read x bytes (where x is image size) to an image Process that image Display in result panel Return to number 2 The problem is that, while I do have the resolution, I have no idea how many bytes to read. I've tried googling the M-JPEG specification but can't find anything on if the images are separated by some header or what. Anybody have any ideas?

  i have a web application which stores users file in directory which is under webroot directory.. Suppose web application is under 'fileupload' and all files are getting stored in 'xyz' folder under 'fileupload' so now if user points to url say like www.xyzpqr.com/fileupload/xyz/abc.doc, he gets that file. How do i restirct this from happening.. i have thought of putting xyz folder in WeB-inf folder but as my application is very big i have to made changes at too many places.. so is there any way so that without moving the folder to web-inf (restricted folders) i can achieve wat i want..

For example I have an Action baa and a controller boo so the javascript to obtain this will be window.location.pathname, and it returns /boo/baa. The thing is that I use a partial view, so when I try to retrieve the pathname via the URL helper, what I obtain is the PartialView one, and what I need is the pathname for the action that invokes it. I want to do this because I want to show certain things of the partial view depending on the pathname of the parent view that invokes it. Is there a way to do this with ASP.NET MVC?   I have 4 serailized arrays that I want to pass to php for processing. What is the best way to combine them into a single array example: serial_1 = $('#col1').sortable('serialize'); serial_2 = $('#col2').sortable('serialize'); serial_3 = $('#col3').sortable('serialize'); serial_4 = $('#col4').sortable('serialize');` each serialized array relates to a column/section of the page (col1,col2 etc.) What I need to do/would like to do is create a single array that puts the serialized array inside another array for a single post. example: var new_array = serilaize(col_1(serial_1),col2(serial_2),col3,(serial_3),col4(serial_4)) I KNOW THAT IS NOT RIGHT as I have no idea in JQuery how to right the correct syntax.   I am absolutely in the dark when it comes to this request payload that I'm seeing in my Chrome browser. A Query string will have a variable attached like session:2g0SoEE but this payload has just one long string I'm guessing is in base64. I do understand that the request payload can have whatever, but how do I use it? Can I do a post with jquery and send this request payload? For example: $.post(url, {variable: "variable"}, function(data){}); When this posts it will send &variable=variable this will be found as query string parameter in the headers sent in chrome. In this game I'm playing I see another piece of info being sending in the header called a payload request. I'm a confused as to how this is read, used, made, how I can reduplicate this? • IE6 background appears-disappears on scrolling

  Hi, Given IE6, an UL-LI list and a background image for the UL container. <style> ul {background-image: url(images/bgr.png);} </style> ... <ul> <li>...</li> ... </ul> When I load the page, the background is randomly loaded, some parts are visible, some are not. Moreover, it changes on runtime when I'm scrolling on the page. When I scroll out the UL list and scroll back, different parts of the background will be visible, depends on the speed of scrolling. Do you have any idea? Thanks in advance.
